Oh geez, this doesn't look like it's going well, but perhaps there's no other way. I hope you're ready man, because it's probably going to be messy -A
‘No other—no, there has to be another way, some other thing that I can do. I am not going to risk doing something that might just make things worse, I-I won’t do that.’
There is desperation in J͠ack̷’s voice. He takes one step closer to C̴ha̧̕͞se̴̛. Then, when that doesn’t elicit a response, walks right up to him. And
‘You can’t be here.’
Ja̡ck̨ freezes as Ch̢̀͠a̧͏s̴͡é͏̀ breaks out of the ‘no’ loop, stopping with his hand halfway reaching for the knot.
‘You can’t. You can’t. You have to be asleep.’
Silence. ‘Why do I have to be asleep?’ Ja҉c̡k asks.
“Because—because—because what was it for? If there was someone...still out there? I could have waited. If someone was still out there. I didn’t have to...but I did. Why can’t I ever make the right choice?’
J͝a̛͟͞c͟͏k͟ doesn’t answer that for a while. ‘Chase,’ he says gently. ‘You need to let go of that.’
‘No, I can’t.’
He holds the k͟͞n̢ot̸̴̛ tighter.

You did what you had to, Chase. At the end of everything, you needed to hold on to anything. It's okay, Eldritch Eyeball. It's okay. Despite everything, it's still you! -Anon on the hunt
‘Yes, exactly.’ J͏ack̸ reaches out, slowly, gauging C̴͢has̨̀͢è̀’s reaction. There’s no adverse response, so he wraps his fingers around Cha̛sȩ͝’s wrist, causing a few of the nearby ş͡tr͟i͠ng̡ş̛ to glitch out. ‘I mean, you didn’t know I was...like this, so of course you couldn’t have made a decision with that in mind. I don’t blame you for what happened. Nobody does. So you don’t have to blame yourself.’
He can feel C̢ha͢s҉e trembling slightly. ‘I—I just wanted—everyone was—they all left. And I was just—all—just alone.’
‘And it was awful, of course it was.’
‘It’s not really them, but I thought—thought, still—still, it was as close as I could get.’
‘And that’s not a bad thing. That you wanted to be close to them.’ J͏a̧çk͝ smiles softly. ‘I actually think that’s one of your best qualities, y’know, that it means so much to you. It means you have a big heart. And so...it’s not a bad thing, that you gave up in a hopeless situation. I think a lot of people would have. It’s not your fault.’
He shifts position a bit, holding both of C͠ha̡se’s hands in his own. He still hasn’t let go of the k̛͠͡no͠t́, but he’s not holding it close to him anymore. ‘Is there...something that can be done? About them?’
‘Of course there is! Though...I do have to be honest, the plan isn’t that solid. It’s going to be tough. But I think if we keep trying, we’ll fix everything.’
‘I stopped trying before...’
‘I know. That doesn’t mean you can’t start again.’

Hey why the sudden animosity? They're just trying to help, although... I guess that in your state you don't see it that way -A
“There is no helping this,” he says quietly. “I’m sorry you think there is. Well, whatever, I’m not gonna stop you from trying.”
Jack takes another step back. He’s not sure how to approach this for a moment. But then he steels himself. As you watch, his form slowly dissolves into something more like a puddle of white noise. There’s a slight electric whine coming from it. Sleepless stiffens, but doesn’t look in its direction.

Is he awake? -A
‘Uh...I dunno.’ Jack creeps closer, eventually crouching down next to the figure.
“I’m always awake,” Sleepless suddenly mumbles. The eyes on his face are firmly shut, but the ones on his arms are as open as ever. “I can hear all of you.” It sounds like a warning.
Beyond the gate, Stacy startles, but doesn’t step away. “Chase, this won’t take too long,” she calls. “And it probably won’t hurt.”
“Stace, no offense, but please go away,” he says.
‘Stacy, do not go away,’ Jack says.
“And you should shut up!” Sleepless suddenly snaps. Jack backs away, surprised.

There’s a small sound. C̛͝͝ha̶s̸̸e͝ twitches a bit, just a tiny movement of his head, but still doesn’t open his eyes.
‘Okay, so he’s...uh, ‘awake,’ I guess. That’s good.’
J̡͠ac̡̢k hesitates, then shakes him some more. There’s another small sound, something like a whimper, now clearly coming from C̨h̡ą̛͝s͟e. Giving up, J͝a̴c͝k̸̸ steps back again, considering what to do. Coming to a decision, he grabs one of the sţr҉ing͝s and starts to pull.

If it's of any consolation, your decision to join Anti is understandable. Your general situation wasn't great to begin with and then everything went to shit with all your friends slowly being targeted and taken away until you were left to struggle all alone. I can't imagine how isolating and crushing that must've been, and then the option to surrender yourself was dangled in front of you. Just one choice to make and then you'd be back with your friends... or at least what's left of them. So yeah, the circumstances that led you to this didn't leave you with anything to hold onto and you simply wanted the hopelessness to end. Your current behavior and action are still bad, you definitely did and let some unforgivable stuff happen, but I like to keep in mind that you probably never wanted any of this. I forgot what I was trying to say by bringing this up... but anyway, be kinder to yourself -A
There is no response to this.
He keeps his head down, but you see his shoulders stiffen in surprise. Clearly not expecting anything like this train of thought. Perhaps he never thought anyone would empathize with his situation. Perhaps he thought nobody else would make a choice like he did.
The silence stretches, uninterrupted except for a quiet noise. It sounds a bit like he’s gasping. It’s a choked-up sound that anyone who’s been trying to hold back emotion would recognize. The eyes tattooed on his arms close up, moving on their own, instinctively trying to keep anything else from leaking out. He doesn’t look up.
Finally...“Go...talk to someone else.” His voice is soft, barely audible. It rasps a bit. “Just...go do that.” He turns away, inching back towards the rock wall of the cave, hiding his face in its surface. It’s obvious he doesn’t want to talk anymore. He has some things to think about.

'Anti's still out there'? What an odd way to phrase things, CHASE. It's almost as if you aren't as tied up by his strings as you were before. It's almost as if you want things to change, to help Stacy and Jack. But that would be ridiculous. Right? And by the way, a psychiatrist isn't meant to fix things for you, Chase. They're meant to help you develop strategies and ideas to fix things for yourself. If you want, I can tell Stacy to not go through with it. -Anon on the hunt
“No one wants this!” He snaps. “Nobody starts out wanting this! Oh yeah, I’d just love to have my free will taken away and my mind and body changed beyond repair. That would be great.” He tries to bury his face in his knees. It’s a bit awkward with his hands still cuffed behind his back, but he refuses to change. “I never wanted this, I just wanted...” His voice cracks. “I just...wanted...to be with them again.” He takes a deep breath. “But there’s nothing I can do about it now. There’s no way to undo all the corruption. Go ahead with the psychiatrist thing if you think it’ll help, fine. I don’t care.”

(Back to Chase please :)) Guess what, Eldritch Eyeball, good news! I have almost certainly gotten you a psychiatrist! It'll probably be a one step forward, two steps back sort of thing, but I have faith in you that you'll be able to overcome these obstacles with the psychiatrist's help. -Anon on the hunt
“Uh...thanks?” Sleepless doesn’t really know what to say to that. “I mean, that’s good, I guess. Haven’t had one of those in a while.” A smile pulls at the corner of his mouth. “But I mean, don’t think it’ll solve all these problems. Anti’s still out there, isn’t he? Things won’t change, will they?” The smile twists. “Well, I guess that pessimistic way of thinking is supposed to be changed by doing this. ‘Come on, let’s fix what’s going on with you so you can face outside problems!’ Like that.” He laughs. It sounds a bit dark.

Soooo what is this weird dream anyway? Did it, perhaps, have something to do with green strings and seeing Jack?
“Wh—” He can’t even respond beyond that small sound. “How...did you know that?” A short pause. “Yeah, it was...freaky. I was in this place that was like...it looked like the inside of a brain or something. And there were all these green strings everywhere, and some of them were like, around me. A-and I kept holding onto a part of these strings, because it seemed, I dunno, important or something. I didn’t want to fall, even though the floor was pretty close. Then I felt someone grab the strings, and I looked down and...he was there. Except all...weird. Glitchy like Anti. And I guess I panicked so much I woke up.”

But wouldn't Error or Cat be worried about you? And isn't your mental health suffering at this point, being held hostage for a week? -Anon on the hunt
Sleepless blinks, and looks away, toward the rock wall. “Y-yeah...of course. I just meant that since they’re not, like, torturing me or anything, it’s not urgent in that sense. Of course you’re right about all that.” He laughs softly. “Y’know I think you’re especially right about the mental health. I keep hearing this voice. Guess I’ll need to borrow the doc’s meds when I get back.” It’s said in a casual tone, yet his voice shakes.

A man is lying on the floor of a cave, staring up at the rocky ceiling in the dim lantern light. The only thing in the cave besides him is a chair, tipped over on its side, and the lantern providing the yellow light.
He’s wearing a gray shirt and black jacket, but the jacket has fallen off his shoulders and was now just around his wrists. He probably would’ve taken it off, but there's a pair of handcuffs around his wrists blocking that from happening. Which must be uncomfortable, in all honesty. But the first thing you notice, seeing him, are the eyes along his arms. Blue and bloodshot, just like the ones in his face. They must be tattoos, but they’re very realistic.
There’s a gate blocking the small cave from a larger cavern. Beyond it, you can see people bustling about, and someone standing next to the gate trying not to look on edge. The man in the cave stares at nothing. He seems bored, or maybe sad. It’s hard to tell.

((Alright: more nice, less mean, got it!)) yes, I do change my tune, I do that often, as I'm sure you've noticed. Since you can't hear Jack, I'll relay the message to you. I think you need to hear it. *Puts on Jack voice* 'It was a tough situation. No one blames you, you got backed into a corner. A lot of people would do the same thing. Hell, I might have. It’s hard to know. And at least you’re all together, right? You did what you could.' And he's right, Chase. He's *right*. -Anon on the hunt
“I didn’t say I couldn’t hear—” He clamps his mouth shut so fast that he must’ve bit his tongue.
Jack chuckles a bit. ‘Pretty good impression of me.’ His smile fades a bit. ‘Hey, I don’t blame you for not reacting. It’s pretty weird that I’m here. I-I’ll explain it to you another time. But whenever you’re ready, you know? We can talk.’ He walks over to the gate, looking out at the bustling people. ‘I’ll be back,’ he says, and walks right through the chain links, gone.
He sits there, processing the words he just heard. And then he says something under his breath, something that sounds like “can’t be right.” But it’s hard to tell. His expression is blank.

Hey, Eldritch Eyeball, you shouldn't blame yourself for what happened. You're just trying your best. We all are. And besides, they were (and are) your friends for a reason. They enjoyed hanging out with you! You were funny, charismatic, made them laugh, and when they needed you? Well, you were there. You have been *such* a good person, even when things were looking bad, and you stuck with them through physical and mental trauma. So you did do something. You were there for them. -Anon on the hunt
“Well you’re suddenly changing your tune,” Sleepless mutters.
‘They’re right, you know,’ Jack says. And as if the message spurs him on, he continues. ‘It was a tough situation. No one blames you, you got backed into a corner. A lot of people would do the same thing. Hell, I might have. It’s hard to know. And at least you’re all together, right? You did what you could.”
He doesn’t look in the direction the voice is coming from. He wants to believe it’s really there, but part of him argues that it’s just wishful thinking. Or maybe he’s lost it. Either way, he closes his eyes before any of the tears welling up inside manage to escape.
Outside the gate, you see Stacy passing by. She shouts to someone, something about it being 11:45 and some people not being back yet. He imagines that others are panicking as well, back in the Place, panicking for the first time someone hasn’t returned.
‘Chase?’ Jack says quietly.
He stays silent.

Look, Stacy, he's not going to kill you. You're too important for that. And he's not going to turn you in to the puppeteer, either ((if he does, I'll slowly drive him insane using psychological tactics I looked up on Google)). I trust him. The question is, do you?
“You don’t know that,” Stacy finally said. “You don’t know what he’d do. I don’t either.” Her eyes flicker downwards. “I can see that in your jacket.”
Sleepless doesn’t move. Then slowly, slowly, he reaches into his jacket and pulls out his handgun. “They’re wrong,” he says quietly. “You’re wrong, voices. I-I have to...he says that if we find anyone who knows, we have to try to bring them.” Chase hesitates. “But...I-I don’t have to...tell him about any of this. Stacy, you can...I can’t lose sight of that girl. If you just move—”
“Well I can’t do that, either,” Stacy interrupted. “She looks barely older than twenty. And enough has...enough has happened to people in this city anyway.”
Sleepless takes a deep breath. “This isn’t up to me. There’s nothing I can do about this. There’s nothing anyone can do about this. Just...just get out of the way.” He squeezes the handle of the gun, but doesn’t raise it.
Stacy doesn’t move.

((I don't know if they can both hear me at the same time but here goes)). *Slow clap* Well, that was pretty easy. Still feel like devouring her now, Sleepless? -Anon on the hunt
“Wait, what?!” Stacy gasps.
“No! No no no, there is no devouring, there was never any of that!” Sleepless hurries to say. “I don’t know where they’re getting that...that...” He stares at her. “You can hear them too.”
“I—” Stacy seems reluctant to answer that, but the answer is still clear.
“Why can you hear them?” He asks, almost in awe. “They tried to talk to others, but it’s only been us so far.” He pauses. “They told me to ask you about Sam. You...have you seen Them?”
She doesn’t answer that either. Stiff, she presses her back further against the door.

Sleepless, I know you have confidence and self-esteem issues, but now is not the time for them! Go on up there, be the great person you are, and ask that woman whether she knows about a green flying eyeball. I mean, come on. The worst they'll do is throw you off the bus, and I doubt that would stop you. -Anon on the hunt for a motivational pep talk
“Jesus, I can’t just—that isn’t my job, I’m not equipped to—” Sleepless lets out a huff. Giving up on being subtle, he turns around in his seat to look at the two women talking. There really wouldn’t be anyone to stop him. There’s the bus driver, but he isn’t paying attention to anything, and even if he was, he didn’t look like he’d be too good in a fight.
He takes a deep breath. “God, I’m gonna get yelled at for doing this. Or worse.” And he stands up, heading towards the back of the bus. On the way, he pulls on the chord by the window, indicating he wanted the bus to stop at the next station.
Bethany and the other woman fall silent as he approaches. “Hi,” he says.
“H-hello,” Bethany smiles weakly. The other woman reaches over and squeezes her hand. “Um...how are—”
“Do you know Sam?” Sleepless asks, staring at the other woman.
Bethany jumps. “Um, sorry, I don’t.”
“I know,” he says. “I wasn’t asking you.”
The other woman is silent. Behind the mask, her eyes dart around the bus. Nobody is around. But the bus stop is approaching. She stands up, pulling Bethany with her, and tries to edge around Sleepless.
He steps in front of her. “Look, I know you know something.”
She still doesn’t answer. The bus slows, and stops, and the bus driver, unconcerned with the events happening, opens the door. “Go go go!” She suddenly shouts, and pushes past Sleepless. Bethany stumbles, then follows.
Sleepless gets knocked aside, but recovers quickly, running after them and hopping off the bus, which drives away soon after. They’re out of the shopping district, and into an area surrounded by tall apartment buildings. The two women are running. Sleepless pursues, but something’s bothering him. Maybe he was imagining it, but the woman’s voice had sounded...familiar.
