WEEK 5
For my Final Major project, I tried to look on to topics that are contemporary, that are ongoing and still need awareness. 
My first 3 topics are:
-Anorexia 
-Global Warming 
-Learning Disabilities 
Anorexia - Minimal eating or loss of Appetite
Part of the cases would start from Relationships, going through a heartbreak, feeling imperfect, feeling the need to loose weight as a sign of feeling not confident of yourself. You maybe suffering from depression where you avoid avoid all the good things. 
Society pressure - Society pressure is another part to why people would be suffering from Anorexia because everything we see online is categories to a perfect body figure and is classified as good looking if your body falls under that category. Therefore there Is a lot of pressure for people to have a certain body type to be considered well looking. Body figures such as Models, gym trainers are considered to be perfect.
Jobs - your job maybe an influencer of you to loose weight or go Anorexic. Jobs that need you to maintain your weight like a model or a ballerina.
Bullying - Bullying for being overweight may have a huge impact on you to the point of where you have force yourself to eat less etc.
what do people with Anorexia do?
People with Anorexia would mainly push themselves away from other people. Feel embarrassed of eating. They would feel that whatever they have eaten is going to cause them to gain weight so would vomit it out. They would hurt themselves, cut themselves because they are mentally going through a lot of depression from the pressure to loose weight. 
I really like working with illustrations doing little doodles here and there. So I don’t have an exact idea as it’s still the beginning. However, I would like to make a package of work that include beautiful illustrated work. Illustration that describe anorexia. 
My second topic I wanted to focus on was learning Disability. This topic is pretty personal to me because over my academic years I myself had a learning disability and I had to over come that with extra classes. The problem with myself was that when I was younger I had known 2 languages German, and English speaking wise and I could understand Konkani but not speak it. 
However over the years as I moved countries I had lost my knowledge of speaking German but I had known a few words here and there however, I was only left with speaking English. Therefore, over my academic years I would mix up words with German and that caused serious problems with my grammar in English. 
Also when I was really young my parents had told me that I used to write words upside down or mirror sided. So my parents thought I had mild dyslexia. 
What is dyslexia? 
This is a disorder that causes a person to be slow at performing,  normal, everyday tasks.
It’s hard for them to read and speak. 
As I was researching more into learning disabilities I came across dyscalculia this is when a individual would have problems with maths and numbers and solving problems. I never knew this was an actual disorder until now. Now that I have come across this disorder I believe I may have also had Dyscalculia as during my academic years I really struggled with maths and failed it 3 times at gcse as I really had problems with solving the problem. My mind would always go blank when it comes to solving. Every math lesson I would never learn anything from it as it was hard for my head to process numbers.

When you feel uninspired, it’s not because you’ve used up all your creativity. Your brilliant ideas are already inside of you, floating around in your subconscious. The way to access that creativity is to tap into your subconscious to bring those ideas into your conscious mind.
This is why lunar energy is particularly useful for creativity magic. The moon lives in a world of darkness. Because of that, the moon is strongly associated with our subconscious, or our “shadow side” as some witches refer to it.
Moon Energy Basics
There is some variation within the magical community regarding the qualities of lunar energy. For example, I���ve heard some witches say that the two weeks following the full moon are an ideal time for creating. Other witches believe that time is best used for resting, releasing, and re-evaluating your life.
One reason for this difference in beliefs is that the moon affects people differently. Some people feel their energy increase around the time of the full moon. Other people feel scattered and overwhelmed, an energy overload of sorts.
You might find it helpful to keep a moon journal, noting your moods and energy levels as the moon moves through its 28-day cycle. Then you’ll be able to create a more personalised moon practice.
Generally speaking, though, the energies of the new moon and full moon are excellent for performing creativity magic.
New Moon Brainstorming Spell
New moon energy is associated with fresh starts and unlimited possibilities. That makes the new moon a perfect time for coming up with new ideas for projects.

Allow the flowy energy of the moon to keep your writing utensil moving for the duration of your spell. The moon constantly cycles through the different phases, and so will your pen.
When your spell is complete, thank the moon for sharing its energy. In the morning, after your mind has had time to rest overnight, look over your ideas. See if any are capturing your attention.
Full Moon Scrying Spell
This is another magical method for drawing out the ideas of your subconscious. It draws on the energy of the full moon.
To perform this spell, fill a cauldron or dark-coloured bowl with water. Bring the cauldron outside and position it so the full moon is reflected in the water. If this isn’t possible because the moon is obscured with clouds or building, light a candle instead. You’ll need some kind of light source in order to see into the water.
Sit by your cauldron close enough so you can look straight down into the water. Take a moment to acknowledge the moon energy that has flooded your space. Allow it to cleanse your space of any unwanted energy. If you’re performing this spell inside, close your eyes and visualise the moon’s energy seeping in through the ceiling and filling your space.
Then set your intention. For this spell, you can say, “The glowing energy of the full moon illuminates the ideas inside of me that are ready to be birthed.”
Drop a bit of food colouring into your water—a few drops is plenty. Watch the food colouring move in the water under the surface. This is similar to the way your creative ideas floating around in your subconscious.
Soften your gaze as you stare into the water. Play with focusing and unfocusing your eyes. Jot down any images, thoughts, or symbols that appear under the surface of the water. This can get somewhat abstract, and that’s fine. You’re probably not going to see a perfectly formed image materialise in the water. This process is similar to when you were a kid staring up at the sky, picking out shapes in the clouds. That’s basically how scrying works. The movements, images or patterns that appear in the water are your ideas that are ready for you to manifest into the world.
Colours Of The Moon Spell
You can use this moon spell to connect to your creativity with colours. This spell will work best during the full moon because that’s when the moon is at its brightness, but you can experiment with it during the other phases as well.
To do this spell, gather up paints, coloured pencils, crayons, or any medium of your choice in an assortment of colours. You should at least have the primary and secondary colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet. You’ll also need a sheet of paper.
Bring your materials outside or by a window, and set your intention as you stare at the moon.
Make up your own intention, or use this one: “I see beyond what is in the physical world.”

Trust that what you saw behind your eyelids the first time was exactly what you needed to see.
Once you’ve drawn and coloured in whatever you saw behind your eyes, fold up your paper and place it under your pillow. Your “peek” into what is beyond this world will interact with your subconscious as you sleep. Take notice of any ideas that come to you the following day.
Set Deadlines With Moon Energy
For some witchy artists, creativity significantly increases when the pressure is on. Deadlines can be excellent motivators when you feel like the ideas just aren’t flowing.
You can set deadlines for any creative projects that seemed to have lost momentum by the changing phases of the moon.
The full moon is a time to celebrate all you have accomplished so it’s the most obvious choice for a project deadline. The new moon is another auspicious time for a deadline because it holds the energy of completion and new beginnings.
To do this, write down a list of all the steps you’ll need to do to complete your creative project. Assign “mini-deadlines” for each of your tasks and write those dates down next to each task. Can I tell if someone has ADHD?
The short answer is .. not without in depth testing.  However, people with and without ADHD have to suspect in order to be tested in depth.  So, what do we see externally that makes us go, “Uhrm?!?  I wonder?”
ADHD affects several areas of the brain either through genetics or through physical trauma.  Those areas are: working memory, short term memory, executive function, the emotional center, and the motor functions.  We will look at these components separate and together. To help, I will use a Multi-Tasking  GUI OS as an example .. windows, linux, apple, android, iphone .. to name a few.
The Basic Components
Working memory is used to store all current tasks.  This is equivalent to a program and the memory it has been allocated by the OS.  If you don’t have a lot of working memory, it gets swapped out with long term memory or a file on disk known as a swap file.
Short Term Memory is that area of the brain that manages the current tasks being performed. This is what allows you to multi-task.  Your mind switches from task to task and back with ease, and most importantly, without forgetting all the tasks that are running.
Executive Function performs many different functions, least of which is determine what is important. From an OS perspective, this watches for signals from all over the computer and switches in and out different programs to handle them.  For, example, when a program needs information stored in a swap file, the computer switches to a program that handles that function.  Then when the swap file responds, another program is run.
The Emotional Center (Amygdala) [1] is responsible for managing a person’s emotional response to internal and external stimuli.  Basic emotions of fight, flight, or stop give way to a variety of colored emotional responses depending the situation and environment. [2]
The Motor Cortex [3] controls a person’s actual arms and legs.  It is where the motherboard connects to the hardware, like the mouse, printer, monitor, ... now think about this in terms of a robot or drone.  Their motor cortex tells the various components that give the robot or drone the ability to move.
Their Failure
ADHD in adults is not like ADHD in children.  While all the same components are affected, their responses change over time. The biggest change is in the messages from the Emotional Center through the Executive function to the Motor Cortex, which controls fidgeting. Many adults with ADHD will state that their K12 teachers told them to stop fidgeting in class; pay attention; or apply themselves.  The problem is that the necessary circuitry needed to control self regulation of motor functions doesn’t exist.  While they can do it for a small period of time, once their attention switches off this process they can no longer control the fidgeting. As children mature into adults, enough neurons form to help take the stress of the system. 
Per Dr. B Russell, the human brain in people with ADHD vs Normal People (NeuroTypical) is 3%.  It’s a significant amount of neurons lost. And, more importantly, it’s not enough for current imaging processes to be able to detect the difference.  However, we can see the difference when looking at how sugar is processed in a developing brain.  I have no data on whether this technique can be used in adults.
As mentioned, when a child focuses they can control their fidgeting.  Fidgeting, though, is only 1 symptom that can be expressed.  Children can hum, tap, rock, doodle, draw, day dream, or respond to every external stimuli around them.  While this may seem typical, the question you have to ask is, “Can they stop doing it without willing themselves to do it, for long periods of time?”  To give this some context, when learning to meditate, most students can only sit still for 10 minutes before they have to jump off the matt.  After practicing for years, most people can sit for hours at a time.  This is the difference between willing yourself to do something, and just being able to do something without effort.
Symptoms
Drive and Motivation -  come from the Emotional Center.  It tells the brain whether or not it likes something.  And, if it doesn’t like something, it tells the brain to get away from it.  If it likes something, it wants more of it.  From an outward perspective, this translates into an employee’s desire to either do the work or not do the work. Or get started with a task. Once people with ADHD get started, they may hyperfocus, because the brain starts to like the challenge of working on the task. So, if you interrupt them during this time, they will lose all that energy. And, then they will be stuck waiting for the drive to kick back in.
External motivators have no effect.  Forget about using Money, Write ups, or other punitive measures to motivate your employee. None of them will work.  People with ADHD have a high rate of turnover because of this very problem. We don’t fit the standard managerial mold.
Switching Tasks - The next problem that people with ADHD exhibit is an inability to switch tasks easily.  Or, be able to prioritize the importance of tasks. To someone with ADHD, everything is important.  Thus, if they are working on something, they have to tune out everything .. email, cell phones, social media, phone calls ... you name it.  Paradoxically, some people with ADHD thrive in this environment, since everything has the same weight, nothing is special, and they process every event as it arrives. 
The inability to control their emotional center means that people with ADHD will have high highs and low lows based on events.  This is different from people with BiPolar disorder who also have emotions that swing, but have no associated event triggering them.  In ADHD, the loss of an item could cause depression, where winning a contract will cause them to be ecstatic.  However, to contrast this with someone normal, the state could be maintained for multiple days or switch as quickly as a new event arrives. [4]
A mother told her son that he was going to go to the pool the night before.  He was so excited, that he didn’t sleep that night. The next day his mother realized he was going to have a bad day.  He wanted to go to the pool so bad.  She took him. They got into the water, and then he started freaking out.  The other children didn’t understand what was happening and while they tried to show him how easy it was, it only caused further embarrassment. He is a good swimmer. 
What happened here is that his emotional center fried his executive function. He was so excited, his executive function couldn’t tell his motor control what to do, and thus all he could do was flail.  He went home very embarrassed and disappointed that day.
A recommendation was made to not tell him that he was gong to the pool, but to spring in on it as a treat.  See if he could handle the sudden change in plans, and thus swim happily. [anonymous]
Forgotten Tasks - if no task is more important than another task, and all tasks have the same priority, then tasks will fall off the mental ToDo list.  This will hold especially true if an employee with ADHD finds something more interesting to do.
Recall - People have problems recalling all sorts of things.  It’s not that they are absent minded, it’s that when the information is needed, they can’t access it. Not that they didn’t learn it, or don’t have it, or ignored it. They physically can’t access it.  It’s akin to the deer in the headlights syndrome; or having the word you want to say stuck on the tip of your tongue, but you can’t remember it.  This situation will appear during highly emotional moments.
Time Blindness - If you were to prepare for a meeting that was to happen a week or two from now, you would have a mental lists of tasks in your head on what you needed to do.  A person with ADHD can’t do that.  They have lists everywhere.  Things to remind them of when they have to do X Y and/or Z and by when.  The farther the due date is, the less likely they are to work on the project.  The closer the due date, the more they are scrambling to get the project done.
Interest Based Motivation - While the Emotional Center was discussed as being the source of motivation, it has been mentioned that people with ADHD are always attracted to things they are interested in. And, if they are interested in the project, they hyper-focus on it (Or, In the Zone).  If you find that your employee always wants to be part of the NEW PROJECT, even though they are on another project. This is due to the fact that they’ve lost interest in the old project.  This, however, leads into the next problem.
Impulse Control - or lack of it.  Most people with ADHD see something shiny, new and fun, and have to have it.  They can’t get it out of their mind until they have it.  This can lead to social problems as well.
Social Problems - People with ADHD usually have social problems.  Take someone with who is unable to control their body during emotional Highs and Lows and put them in a social situation. They are awkward. Not knowing what to say, or saying what’s on their mind, and suddenly realizing that everyone is pissed off at them. This not only causes social rifts in the office, but everyone refuses to work with someone with ADHD because they are insensitive, or don’t have control over their thoughts.
Following Instructions - it’s not that people with ADHD can’t follow instructions, we can.  But what we have a hard time doing is following instructions that are buried in paragraphs.  If they are in list form, then we can check them off. (Remember that comment about lists, above. This should resonate by now.)
Tasks Take Longer - or do they?  If you had a stop watch to actually measure the amount of time someone completed a task, vs someone who started and stopped a lot took to complete the task, you might find that both parties took the same amount of time to complete the task. What the difference is, is when the task is completed. 
No Association between Cause and Effect in Consequences - you can scold someone with ADHD all you want. Write Ups, Reports, threats of dismissal, you name it .. none of that will work, because their brain will just keep on doing what it has always done.  It’s not a coping mechanism where if they just tried harder they could fix the problem.  It’s a physical problem that can’t be fixed, because their brain doesn’t contain enough neurons to managed the world like yours does.

Five Ways to Help Children with ADHD Develop Their Strengths
What is it like to be a kid with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?  Children with ADHD often struggle academically, socially and emotionally. They may be disorganized, forgetful, easily distracted and impulsive.
And like all kids, they want to feel normal, says Dr. Sharon Saline, author of What Your ADHD Child Wishes You Knew. Saline, a psychotherapist who works with ADHD children and their families, argues that an informed empathy for ADHD children —  for what they experience on a daily basis — can inspire parents and teachers to work with these children in ways that will help them grow into responsible and happy adults.
She advocates the Five C’s method — self-Control, Compassion, Collaboration, Consistency and Celebration — as a roadmap for reducing family stress and equipping children with the skills they need to thrive.
Self-Control
Self-control isn’t just a skill for children, says Saline.  Raising a child with ADHD can test parents’ patience, so she advocates “learning to manage your own feelings first so you can teach your child to do the same.”
Saline says that it’s distressing for kids when parents absorb and reflect their distress. Children in her practice want their parents to know, “If I’m upset and then you get upset, there’s nobody to help me reign it in and get back to center. If you lose it in response to my losing it, it’s kindling on the fire.” Kids with ADHD need adults to model how to manage emotions in the face distress. Remember that self-regulation is a skill — something that children and adults can strengthen with strategic practices such as mindfulness training.
Compassion
Saline likens ADHD to a constant barrage of “small ‘t’ traumas.”  These children experience “the accumulation of a thousand paper cuts that wear down their positive self-concept.” If we want children with ADHD to develop self-compassion, they have to first experience it from others. When parents and adults constantly point out deficits, children run the risk of viewing themselves as inherently deficient. Saline says kids want to tell adults,  “I need to you understand and accept me even if I don’t understand and accept myself.”
Saline describes compassion as “meeting your child where they are, not where you expect them to be. When you accept the brain that your child has and who your child is, it makes all the difference for them.”
Collaboration
If parents and teachers can project self-control and compassion, it becomes easier to collaborate with children on practical strategies that will help them grow. Saline advocates working together with children to find solutions rather than imposing top-down rules.  “What kids tell me is that they want to have a say in the plans that are made that are supposed to help them,” says Saline. “They get feedback from people all the time on what they could be doing differently. When there’s buy-in from the child, there’s more participation, more collaboration and more value.”
Here’s a strategy Saline recommends to families and educators: sit down and jointly identify a list of things you want to work on — things that will make daily life at home or school a little easier. “You may have 15 items on your list, and your child may have two.  But those two things will also be on your list, so go with those two.”
For example, if you are constantly fighting because your child’s room is a mess, you will probably both identify that issue.  So how do you teach organization? As the adult, you have to participate in this, at least initially, says Saline. “It’s not going to work to say, ‘Go clean your room.’ They will find one item and say, ‘Wow, where has this been?’ – and then they are gone.” Adults can be the child’s “double” and help scaffold their success until they have mastered the skill on their own. This might include talking through the plan and creating a checklist that you tackle together. Try turning needed tasks into a game, says Saline. “Turn on tunes that they like and say, ‘We are going to take 15 minutes and put your room in order together.’”
Saline describes a grandfather who sat in his grandson’s room and called out one item at a time (“Shirts!” “Socks!”) until the room was cleaned. “He was helping build the executive functioning skills of sorting, sequencing and prioritizing all at the same time.” When you model how to attack an overwhelming task, “you are helping your child build fundamental skills.”
Consistency
Children with ADHD respond well to predictable routines that help them organize their day. This includes consistent rules and consequences. When possible, says Saline, “do what you say you will do” while recognizing that you are aiming for steady, not perfection.
Saline says that the kids she works with “can’t stand it when parents say they are going to do something and then they don’t do it.” For example, a parent might say, “I’m not going to pick up your stuff anymore,” and then clean up their child’s piles when they are at school.
“For concrete thinkers, this is very confusing,” says Saline. “They will continue to push you because they don’t know where the limit is. The limit keeps changing.”
Celebration
Saline estimates that the ratio of positive to negative feedback ADHD children receive is 1:15. Kids often feel like adults only notice when they “mess up,” not when they try. Saline says that children and teens with ADHD can grow wary of feedback because it so rarely focuses on their strengths.
“We have to pay attention to kids trying, even if they are not succeeding,” says Saline. “Practice makes progress; we are looking for progress, not perfection. We have to focus on the process more than the product. It’s the process that will help the kids build the executive functioning skills they need for productive adulthood. When we notice that they are actually turning in homework four-fifths of the time when it used to be two-fifths? Well, that’s progress.”
Look for ways to celebrate your child’s strengths, says Saline. “They get up in the morning, they go to school, and they do it over and over and over again. That is a strength. Build on that desire to try. We often look at what the shortfall is. We have to tap into these strengths.” Pay attention to children’s interests and skills — from technology to doodling to drama — and explore ways children can use these interests to strengthen other areas of their life.
Saline describes one little boy she worked with who  had big feelings to manage. She asked him if he would like to take an improv class. Four years later, he is a fixture in drama performances, an activity that builds executive functioning skills such as memory, planning, and focus.
Reversing the positive to negative feedback ratio isn’t always easy, says Sailne. “If you have a day where your teen is driving you crazy, and all that you can find to celebrate is the fact that they are showering and brushing their teeth, that’s what you are talking about: ‘You smell good. Nice T-Shirt.’”
Helping ADHD Kids Understand Their Brain
Saline says that medication can help some kids with ADHD but “but pills don’t teach skills.” Children need consistent support in developing their executive functioning skills. “You have to separate your brain with your sense of self.  It’s easy for these kids to ask, ‘What’s wrong with ME? Why am I less than? Why am I failing?’” Instead, she talks to kids about how their brain works, how it grows, and what they can do to strengthen their executive functioning skills.
This type of language helps kids “create space between ‘what my brain is’ and ‘what I am,’” separating the experience from the person. For example, instead of “I am a distracted person,” kids learn to say, “I am training my brain to focus better. Here’s how I’m doing it.”  
Teachers can help children with ADHD  by overtly teaching executive functioning skills and integrating this language into their lessons. For example, when introducing a task such as writing a story, ask students what executive functioning skills they will need to use — e.g. shifting from listening to thinking, planning and organizing — and offer help if they find themselves struggling with one of these steps in the process. “Remember,” says Saline, “you are talking about the skills, not the child.”
The Good News for Parents
If your child has just been diagnosed with ADHD or if you are struggling to help your child manage their life, Saline offers these words of support.
First, development is in your child’s favor. “The brain is developing and will continue to develop.  Where your child is now is not where they will be in a year. Focus on the now, not on your worries about the five years from now.”
Second, your efforts matter. “What kids tell me over and over again is that they wouldn’t get through without their parents. You matter more than you think you do.”
