Oh, hey here’s just some gijinka designs for the main scugs I managed to get out in time for art fight!
I might adjust them later to feel more fitting - mostly Rivulet I’m not too happy with how their eyes and hair are-

Hiii I’ve never done an ask game before (new to tumblr) so idk how these work but what about 11? What would you change about the source material if you could?
I would definitely change gameplay itself to include a better ecosystem lmao
Like rn it technically works for gameplay but I would definitely edit it a LOT if I had the power
There's many small things that irritate me just a little, which are mostly:
The massive amount of predators with very little prey when it comes to the Rainworld ecosystem
Random lizards everywhere, even in places without much food at all or in places where they fall off platforms on their own without any help every. Single. Time. Why do they keep coming back there? Like I get that the cycle brings them back, but if I kept dying in an area, I would move out, idk
There's always like 20 lizards in the area, but usually like 3 or 4 squidcadas and maybe 2 centipedes. What are those lizards eating? How is there still so many of them?
Usually there's little carnivores and plenty of herbivores, with only exceptions being when it's a pack of carnivores that take down massive prey and then feed off of that for a while, but still
Also it just doesn't feel good to play in plenty of places tbh
Like the longer you play, the more you realize that in most campaigns other than survivor (survivor actually feels like how surviving in a hostile ecosystem is meant to work. Spearmaster feels like "let me throw 5000 lizards at you for difficulty lol") the lizards are put there just to add additional fake difficulty and make stuff just annoying
Monk and Survivor don't suffer from that issue. Other slugcats however, mostly the downpour ones? ....a little bit yeah.
Also I hate how the approach of "most things likely want to eat you so stab everything you come across" is correct most of the time
So if I could, I would add plenty of neutral creatures to the game, to force you to actually learn what is neutral and not a threat and interact with things with cautious curiosity from the start rather than being hostile and only getting in trouble for doing so when it comes to scavengers and noodleflies and nothing else
But idk its a small thing that has been annoying me for a long while already, and the game is still great! It has wonderful art and messages and feels really good to play in most places, and I enjoy the story a whole lot!
I just wish more creatures were neutral.
I have so many ideas for fun interactions with neutral creatures (large beetles you can hide under, parrots that are neutral until you hurt them and then scream if you attack them, luring in predators, seals with glowing orbs on heads that are neutral but you can try to take the lantern if you don't mind being hunted, stinkbugs that let out clouds of chemicals if you hit them, etc.) And its a shame that it's not used more in rw
Squidcadas are fun, scavengers are fun, give me more of that please. Not everrything needs to be hostile every time.
Of course it is only my opinion, and the game is still one of my absolute favourites, it's just that one thing that I woud change if I could. I hope to learn modding to one day bring my creature ideas to life (or commission someone else to code them) so that I could experience the ecosystem I wish I could
And ofc if you disagree, good for you, there's many reasons why I can see you could disagree, that's just my personal opinion on what would be fun for the game. (人 •͈ᴗ•͈) nothing more than random thoughts

Today I bring Gijinka Suns and Pebbles, tomorrow? who knows. this was inspired after I saw @lyss-butterscotch's Gijinka Iterators. (I hope you don't mind the tag <3)
their hair subtly glows like the neurons around their can cause they're made of the same material!
Suns antenna resemble a Slugcats, this is purposeful so it's easier for him to communicate with spearmaster.
pebbles is a stupid little baby man and I love him. maybe I'll do some of the other Iterators, but I had to do my two favourites.

I don't think we have enough ships for Survivor. I think they deserve some more love.
YOURE RIGHT!!! I honestly love Survivor so so much, they're my favourite vanilla slugcat out of the 3. So of course they deserve a lil love, personally I saw this ship between Gourmand and Survivor and I loved it! Spearmaster and Survivor sounds really cute as well... Those are my two favs for Survivor so far, I might post some abt it!

Hello! can you draw your 3 favourite slugcats?
My favourite slugcats are probably spearmaster, artificer and hunter. I love the idea of the violence gang
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But if its ocs we're talking about currently my favourites are nettle, the retriever and the storyteller
Tumblr media
I wasn't sure if you were asking about ingame slugcats or ocs so I did both :)

Slugcat Overall Gameplay Tier List
Wanted to make a tier list talking about how much I like the general gameplay (I mean like, how the slugcat is and the general situations in their campaigns, without taking into account "special situations"), just a personal opinion, and I would love to see what people think too!
Before explaining, I have to say that all the slugcats are really really fun!!! I love playing all of them <3 That being said, explaination down below!
From the bottom to the top, starting with...!
Spearmaster
The slugcat, as it is, is the least different of the downpour slugcats (Mechanic wise), feels like a glorified Hunter to me, the most difference being being able to have a spear anytime, it allows for more mobility and experimentation. I absolutely adore that you have to eat using your spears. Fighting is really fun too! More of a "sniper" style but I like it! Compared to the other slugcats (Specially downpour's) it feels that they lack.. Something? Idk why tho. Having a harder campaign helps with that a lot
Monk
Will say more about the general gameplay with Survivor, because they have almost the same campaign. But I love two things about their experience:
- You're just a bit less powerful than Survivor, specially talking about spear throw distance. This makes any combat more close quarters, a positive thing because...
- Monk doesn't want to fight! Aside Saint, it's the only want that preffers not to have any combat, being and feeling more than a prey. One of my favourite parts of this game is when you have to hide and be stealthy in order to survive, and Monk has more of that than any other, at least in theory!
Biggest drawback of Monk is that the creatures are less smarter. This only affects when having a certain skill level tho. Besides that, it has it benefits! Taming lizards easier, having a more relaxed gameplay and having that attunement with the world and it's creatures is a great general experience! (I love you Monk)
Survivor
The template, the base game, everything is polished and balanced around this slugcat, making it alongside Monk the most "Classic" experience! This campaign has the right spice, just at the right point between being too frustrating and too forgiving. Survivor's (And general) movement and places creates a lot of emergent and interesting situations! I could talk words and words about how good this game is but that will be for maybe another post! Survivor is the basic experience but that doesn't mean is a really rich one! (Most of this stuff applies to Monk too)
Thanks for reading! I'll continue in a second part, you can check it here

*pops up out of the bushes*
sunstone? 👀
also green tea I'd love to hear about those guys more
:D fun
1. What made you ship it?
Honestly just all the fun art about it
2.what are my favourite things about the ship?
I just think it is neat. I don't really have many thoughts, I just like to think of my one au dynamic of friends to enemies (one sided) to friends to lovers. Also Sig plays a role in there somewhere but that is a different shop entirely
3. Is there an unpopular opinion I have on the ship?
I think people don't give enough development time to the ship. Pebbles cuts contact from everyone for a while, surely this affects the relationship. They definitely wouldn't immediately get together after what happened to Spearmaster.
Then again I have drifted away a little from sunstone, it is still fun and in my au but I really focus on other ships for drama and interesting plots. Like ragequit lovers to enemies to friends and stuff like the friendship between Sig and Suns.
Also my green tea!! Yeah!!
1. What made you ship it?
I liked lilypad, I liked slivermoon. I decided to do my polycule thing and fuse the two. Honestly I also think Sig X Sliver is cute too now
2. Favourite things about the ship
Gotta love the tragedy and drama, Sig and Moon lose a partner. Moon collapses, Sig has to save her. The colour palettes all line up. Sig is the shortest and is a gremlin about it. Sliver is a workaholic and Sig and Moon have to pull her away from work. I just love these three dorks
3. Unpopular opinion?
Uhh, I think I am the only one who ships this? I guess uhh, unpopular opinion Sliver is dead so is it still green tea or just lilypad?

3, 4, 5, and 6 for the rw ask game :)
Mkay!!
3: some of my absolute favourites are def five pebbles and outer expanse, fp fashinated me in my first playtrough and despite the rot n stuff the music and atmosphere of iterators are so gorgeous to me.
As for outer expanse, I adore the soundtrack and enviroments, the beautiful colours and lighting+ flora and fauna are absolutely breathtaking, I aint normal about them/silly
4: I can't really trow shade at any region (i'm a sucker for all of them in at least one element), but the least enjoable one for me is struts in the spearmaster campaign, I haven't been able to see the full thing since I keep dying to spiders sndbsb, ik it's a bit petty but I have skill issues
5: ahhh I absolutely love scavangers and deers w all my heart, it's almost like meeting another slugcat in a way (at least in the vanilla game) considering the social structure these silly beasts have, as of deers I love riding them trough farm arrays when I can, hopping onto one is hard tho sbbfsb
6: least favourite would be miros birds, no shade but they terrify me as much as coming across the rot jsfjsbf, they're frighteningly fast and strong

And, THE CHIMERA!
3, 13, 23, <333333 :DDDD
you picked my two favourite children (aviator and chimaera)... ooooghh!! yes!!!
3. where does your slugcat come from? born wild? descendant of a purposed organism? a purposed organism themselves?
i guess they could be considered purposed because cavern of twilight, heed my prayer (lengthy name i know. lets call him twilight for now) modified them, but before that they were just a normal slugcat. quite similar to spearmaster's situation. so it just depends on whether for a creature to be a purposed organism it has to be engineered from scratch or it can be purposed later.
they were born wild, but don't remember their colony very much.
13. is your slugcat aware of the cycle and the great problem? if so, do they have any opinions on it?
twilight has definitely talked to them about both subjects before but i doubt chimaera remembers what any of it really means.
23. how does your slugcat speak? verbal noises? body gestures? drawing? etc.
chimaera has a similar way of communicating with body language to scavengers, because of the scavenger dna twilight engineered them with (they also have red centipede and blue lizard dna but since those creatures dont have much of a language it doesnt affect the way they communicate).
they can make lizard noises, but don't use them to communicate
