It's that time of the year again where I pull out the year's worth of records of everything (music wise) I listen to and use it for the sole purpose of why I bother to write it down again: being able to join in with Spotify Wrapped as a certified Spotify Hater! For the third year running, I present to you all, Larsify Wrapped, 2023!
(Note I used to make these using Microsoft Excel for the data and PowerPoint for the visuals. I no longer have access to Microsoft Office so this took me 2.5 hours of suffering to make and the image editing is still much worse than my usual standard, but fuck it. Also due to Depression my actual recording of my listening has, for the first time, been falling off for the last few months so I DEFINITELY missed a few listens.)

uQuiz Wrapped
You took 409 quizzes when you were supposed to be working on something else!
You were assigned a character 256 times! 180 of those were characters you actually liked!
Somebody loves masochism! 112 of your quizzes insulted you or your taste!
What a survivor! You suffered through 368 song lyric questions!
You selected a generic celebrity you had never seen before 327 times!
Way to go! 199 of your quizzes were written by an opinionated quizmaker who thinks cynicism is cool, but you didn’t complain about them! Heart of gold!
You shared 380 of your results, but decided to roll your eyes and ignore what you got 29 times!
Here’s to another great year!

woohoo! Thank you! <333333
85: Bulletproof by La Roux (saw it in an ad for...something? a couple of years ago; it was a spoof of online dating anyway, and decided it was an awesome song :D ):

ep. 77: Bada bing! All over his nice Ivy League suit. (The Godfather)
Tumblr media
Bada bing! Is this the most-referenced piece of pop culture on Gilmore Girls? While we’re focusing on one reference in the only Emmy-winning episode of our favorite show, we can’t ignore how many times The Godfather has gotten a shout-out. What did the real mafia think of this movie? Why did it have so much Oscar controversy? And how do the Corleones compare to the Gilmores? We complete the Holy Film Trio by covering this classic, its history, and a bunch of other pop culture picks that reference it until we run out of quotes just like Lorelai.
Other pop culture we ref: Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Misery, Mommie Dearest, The Outsiders, Errol Flynn, Claude Monet, You’ve Got Mail, Frank Sinatra, Zootopia, Modern Family, Tuck Everlasting, Parks & Recreation, The Rainmaker, Avengers: Endgame, The Irishman
LISTEN TO THE EP

And here are handy links if you want to listen to our episodes about the other movies in the Holy Film Trio:
ep. 16: I screwed up their big Citizen Kane plans
ep. 19: Louis, I think this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship (Casablanca)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
EVERY EPISODE OF GILMORE GIRLS WE COULD FIND THAT REFERENCES THE GODFATHER
117 - “Hey, it sleeps with the fishes.”
205 - “But what if he turns out to be Fredo?”
210 - “We were supposed to watch a lot of movies and make fun of Godfather III.”
214 - “Whack you with a cannoli? Oh, because he left the gun and took the cannoli.”
216 - “it’s in the Luca Brasi-mobile out front.”
302 - “Saying yes to this lunch with my mother is like saying, ‘Sounds fun!’ to a ride with Clemenza.”
311 - “We’ll have it in an Italian restaurant. You’ll get up, go to the bathroom, and come out shooting, and then I’ll send you to Italy.”
401 - “We'll do Godfather I through "Monday, Tuesday, Thursday," and a quick Sofia dying.”
404 - “You have to learn to separate the personal from the business.”
406 - “Every family has a Fredo.”
407 - “Bada-bing! All over his nice Ivy League suit.”
509 - “This is the fish on the doorstep. It's the horse head in the bed. It's the ‘either your signature or your brains are going to be on the contract.’”
517 - “At least I didn't ask you for a favor on this, the day of our daughter's wedding.”
602 - “I'm gonna be like Michael Corleone dealing with that slimy brother-in-law of his.”
604 - “Godmother, huh? Did you make her an offer she couldn't refuse?”
605 - “I know, but this is business. It's not personal.”
606 - “You know the old saying: Cross the Don in the morning, sleep with the fishes in the afternoon.”
610 - “Godfather it up for me.”
621 - “Did you get Clemenza to hide a gun in the bathroom first?”
718 - “He’s basically the Mayor of Stars Hollow and Don Corleone all wrapped up into one.”
AYITL: Summer - “My wife is crying upstairs. I can hear cars coming in the house. Consigliere of mine, I think it's time you tell your Don what everyone seems to know.”AYITL: Fall - “I just upped and pulled a Bugsy Siegel and made 'em an offer they couldn't refuse.”

Episode 0087 - Onyx Ashanti (Part 2) on Open Source P2P Concrescence vs The Realm of Loud Dumb...
This week we continue the ecstatically futural mind-jazz duet with cyborg performance artist and body-machine interface master hacker Onyx Ashanti, exploring the frontiers of new meta-languages emerging at the intersection of the born and manufactured, and creative possibilities thereof.

In this episode, we discuss:
Fractal Sonocybernetics & The Future of Language
The neurological and experiential differences between speaking and singing, between continuous movement and discontinuous speech.
“The English alphabet is created of embedded Fibonacci relationships…there are five vowels; all five of those vowels are odd numbers…between A and E is three letters; between E and I is three letters; between I and O is five; O and U is five; and between U and the end of the alphabet, wrapping around to the A, is five letters…two 3s and three 5s is also one of these relationships. There are twenty-one consonants in the alphabet, and twenty-one is one of these Fibonacci values.”
Book: Darwin’s Pharmacy by Richard Doyle
Reaching beyond language to communicate the ineffable psychedelic experience…only to create new (insufficient) languages.
Violent counter-reactions to the sudden is-ness of black swan events (like the election of Barack Obama OR Donald Trump).
“Those of us that get it and CAN talk about it, it is necessary for us to talk about it. But then to reinforce what we’re talking about with action.”
The moral imperative of people with a vision to communicate it. The ethical necessity of artists to create and share.
Music as an irreplaceable core module of an n-plus-one-dimensional future language.
“We’re like some kind of ant, or bee, and our honey is technology.”
With respect to the Singularity: The end of the world? The end of WHAT world? WHAT DOES “END” EVEN MEAN?
What happens to identity politics in an age of exponential change and its metamorphosis of “baseline” human identity into something plural, mutable, and ineffably always-evolving?
“We have to burst out of identity politics in a way such that it is BORING, that it is MUNDANE, that our perception of identity politics is that it is no longer [the house-sized thing that I am within], it is [identity politics, this thing I am holding in my hand and I can examine like I would examine a grapefruit].”
“One’s reality is limited by their ability to comprehend complexity.”
If we act from the understanding that our brains are harmonically organized, our thoughts and actions can begin to take on that harmonic organization…
Gamma brainwaves as the lubricating medium of harmonically coherent brain activity, just as blockchain-enabled microtransactions enables a fluid economy and liquid democracy in the global brain…
How to become resilient in a networked society by using failure to inform the design of new evolutionary systems.
“Bitcoin…it’s unstoppable. Right now. And when it IS stoppable, we will have a new version that is vastly less stoppable than this one. And then it will get attacked mercilessly…and then maybe someone brings the quantum chain down. And then we create something we can’t even imagine at this point…”
“I feel that Bit Torrent begat Bitcoin.”
“The interesting thing with the Bitcoin community is that we’re all working for a company that…there’s nobody working for that company!”
Is crypto the cathedral of planetary culture we’ve been waiting for?
Onyx waxes rhapsodic about the blockchain.
Open-source space program.
Book: Project Hieroglyph (containing Cory Doctorow’s short story, “The Man Who Sold The Moon”)
Onyx uses Sun Ra and the afro-futurist mythology that he created repeatedly to make a point about legendary creative badassery.
“You have to share it in such a way that each person feels that they are absorbing it. And want to. ‘How can I get involved?’”
Pay No Attention to The Realm of Loud Dumb Shit
What a bad example of a good future cyberpunk is… (Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, etc.)
Story/Film: Johnny Mnemonic by William Gibson
Imagining a Crypto Pride Parade with everyone wearing reflective Face ID spoofing masks
What it takes to turn a work of art into a movement: resonance.
“If you [lawmakers and IP holding companies] can’t stop a five megabyte file [mp3s], good luck stopping crypto.”
And more for those with time to listen!

BEHOLD, my Homebrew Not-Spotify Wrapped
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the second year running I manually recorded everything I listened to in a spreadsheet, and this year I included song durations as well so I could much more closely spoof Spotify Wrapped. Enjoy.

So I did my own number-crunching of my full year of listening
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something I wanted to do that Spotify Wrapped didn't include this year (to fill you in, I do not use Spotify but manually keep a record of my listening; when Wrapped drops, I create a spoof of the whole thing) is this "calendar" of my most listened to albums per month. I think it's pretty cool when you make this visual representation. More whole-year listening stats in the form of Google Sheets screenshots under the cut.
My top 10 most listened albums of 2023 overall
Tumblr media
Top 10 most listened ARTISTS (I regret none of spending almost exactly 22 hours listening to King Gizzard)
Tumblr media
GHOST refers to this person, you should check out their music :3
And finally the top songs - these are sorted first by number of times I listened to them, then by duration to use as a "tie breaker", which is what makes Divers my Song Of The Year
Tumblr media
My total "listening time" for the whole year ended up coming out at 205 hours by the way, but that's only what I bothered recording because I specifically chose to play that music - excluding whenever I put my music on shuffle, times my mum put on music in the house or car, and radio shows (I listen to several religiously)

Spotify Wrapped dropped today so it's time for my 11 month long (so far) project of recording every song I listen to to bear fruit. Here's my DIY Wrapped (counting up to October 31st like Spotify does)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I might look into adding song durations into my data so I can do minutes listened and have a more definite ranking of my top artists next year or even by the actual whole year results I'm gonna do for this one cus it's dumb that Spotify Wrapped doesn't count two entire months and I don't have to be the same
