Okay this is not going to be a very official looking post because 1. I don't have the steam for it and 2. I think the timing with Dawntrail's release would probably not be great.
But I did a while back make a "WoL-y" (pronounced like the fish "walleye" to sort of rhyme with "July") monthly prompt list. Normally I'd attempt to make a nice little graphic for it, but after trying a couple of times and feeling dissatisfied I've woefully given up :'D (If anyone feels possessed of the desire to do so, by all means feel free!)
Alternatively if you want to just pocket these for later once the DT hype has cooled a bit, go for it! OR trim a couple out and make it a countdown to DT, I'm just setting them free. So without further ado:

Quick Roll Table for Lancer NPCs
Starting off with IPS-N, for when you need to populate a rickety O'Neil cylinder with salty cosmonauts. 1. IPS-N Marine: Nearly two and a half meters tall and loaded with myolace, endodermal NxRA integuments, and titanium-carbide osteoplate. Putting her in a hardsuit only makes her more of a terror in close quarters. She treats her squadmates like a mother bear treats her cubs and takes no shit when it comes to their safety, whether that be from the enemy or IPS-N suits. With any luck, she’ll include you in her pack too. 2. IPS-N Subline Jockey: They’re twitchy as all hell and just can’t seem to sit still. Quite short despite a lifetime in space, and always wears their truncated environmental filter system. They’ve got an impeccable record sitting in the casque of a Walleye; if you need a flak screen penetrated or a patrol cutter outran, they’re the one to call. Willing to fly anyone or anything anywhere for a surprisingly generous rate, no questions asked.
3. IPS-N Suit: Totally unflappable and results driven, station deckhands have taken to calling them ‘Rocky’ for their stone-cold demeanor. One wouldn’t expect someone as relatively unassuming as them to hold the levers of military and civilian procurement in the palm of their hand. Despite the strict IPS-N regs on employing freelancers, they’re willing to take all comers for work. Be absolutely sure you don’t disappoint.  4. IPS-N Mechanic: As salty as any cosmonaut comes, and has little patience for those who don’t know what they’re doing or waste his time. Carries an entire toolbox, fusion torch and all, inside an oversized and very rusty mechanical arm. Some say that he can put a NLS drive back together with his eyes closed. Does repair work on the cheap, but will make you stay and watch him. Take notes, he’ll quiz you once he’s done. 5. IPS-N Miner: A persistent ray of sunshine despite spending all of her time working in deep-core nickel-iron asteroid mines. She lost all of her limbs and an eye doing her job. IPS-N set her up with some second-rate cybernetics, clunky, poorly neuro-tuned, and constantly belching steam. They still expect her to work and pay them back. She quietly wishes she could hurt the company very badly for putting her in this situation. 6. IPS-N Captain: Older than most everyone on the station, doesn't look a day over 65 thanks to the vagaries of nearlight travel, stasis-sleep, and a healthy diet of Ispahsalari cigars and Ras Shamran whiskey. Rough around the edges, with a low brow sense of humor befitting of an old salt cosmonaut. If you can get past both those, you'll find that he's well worth his weight in O2, knows the best deck-teks and merchants on the station on a first name basis

We're probably going to take a full arsenal of weapons with us next time, but I'd love to hear from some more experienced players on what to do. Stay alert: danger in Barotrauma doesn’t announce itself.HELP YOUR CREW SUCCEED, OR MAKE SURE NO ONE DOESThere are as many ways to enjoy Barotrauma as there are ways to die in it. Travel through a punishing underwater world and discover what lies in the depths of Europa. The divers dropped their harpoon gun on the first mission, so that was not an option for us. With its irradiated icy surface, life can only be found in the ocean below. One diver reported sounds like two pieces of metal clanging together when he shot his SMG, but nothing seemed to happen.Īre there any weapons that work on the brain? We tried the SMG, shotgun and the knives (not sure about the last one). Most of our team are on holidays until the end of July, but we will get back to reading the forums in earnest in August. The point is: with the weapons my divers had, they simply couldn't make a dent in it. They flat out say if you’re fishing walleyes, perch or bass in water deeper than 25-30 feet, pla. I’m glad to see the information getting more popular. I scoured the wiki, reddit, this steam forum and the barotrauma forum on their host site, but couldn't find a more detailed description than "kill the brain". This week’s issue of Outdoor News has a short but direct piece on barotrauma studies done in North Dakota. The mission itself is not the problem here, but we found a Thalamus inhabiting the ship, but for some reason we could not damage it. We found the wreckage quickly enough, and after after some trial and error got into the wreckage to find the Captain's log. A place to discuss anything related to Barotrauma that doesn't fit into the other specific sections. I started playing the game with a couple of friends tonight, and as our second mission we decided on "Salvage a Wreck". A Dish From Every US State
Hey all! I want to try and make a dish from every US state (probably with a vegetarian/pescatarian spin on it) so after some Googling this is what the internet gave me from each. If you live or have lived in a US state comment to confirm or suggest your own. Or send me recipes! I looked at 5 or 6 lists so if there’s only one listed for a state I guess the collective internet is out of ideas. Also reach out if you live or have lived in Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, or the Northern Mariana Islands; these are US territories so I’m also interested what feels unique to your island too.

Where to Find the Best Chinese Food in and Around Minneapolis, MN
There are dozens of restaurants specializing in Chinese food located in and around Minneapolis, MN, but three stand out for their harmonies of flavor and incredible meals. Keep reading to discover what we consider the best Chinese restaurants in the area.
1. Tea House
Tea House earns its spot on this list thanks to its authentic cuisine and delicious appetizers, entrees, and more. Begin your meal with an order of the onion pork buns, the Szechuan dumplings with sweet soy sauce, or the steamed lazy dragon buns. Alternatively, start off with a smaller soup such as the hot and sour dumpling soup, or ask for a larger bowl such as the fish with pickled vegetable soup featuring peppers and fish fillets in broth.
Cold dishes at Tea House pack all of the flavor with none of the heat, and our favorites include the spicy beef tendon in chili sauce and the cucumber salad seasoned with vinegar and garlic. If you enjoy hotter dishes spotlighting poultry, we know you’ll love the Chung King spicy chicken with dried pepper; if you prefer pork, go with the double-cooked pork in black bean sauce. Don’t forget an order of crispy brown sugar rice cakes for dessert!
2. Rainbow Chinese Restaurant
Rainbow Chinese Restaurant offers guests a massive menu with a wide variety of traditional meals. We like to start off by ordering the Szechuan wontons with pork and shrimp, the rice cakes with taro and eggs, and the Asian slaw topped with citrus zest to split with the table. If you’re a fan of fried rice, go with either the five-spice bacon fried rice or the curry tofu fried rice mixed with cabbage, broccoli, and bean sprouts.
For the main meal, we suggest the Singapore Chow Mai Fun or the Jai Mai Fun with peapods if you enjoy noodle dishes. If you prefer your noodles in a soup, we know that you’ll enjoy creating your own big bowl of noodle soup with fillings such as fried egg, tofu, chicken, BBQ pork, beef, wontons, mushrooms, onion, basil, cauliflower, and more. Be sure to snag an order of chocolate wontons dusted with powdered sugar to end the meal!
3. Shuang Cheng Restaurant
Shuang Cheng Restaurant is beloved throughout downtown Minneapolis due to its flavorful and tasty meals delivered with friendly and fast service. Go with an order of the pan-fried dumplings, the salt and pepper chicken wings, or the crispy quail for the ideal appetizer. Soups also make a delicious starter for a main meal, and our personal favorites include the wonton soup, the egg drop soup, the vegetable soup, and the sweet and sour soup.
If you enjoy seafood, Shuang Cheng Restaurant is the way to go; from squid in black bean sauce to spicy fried walleye, there’s something for everyone. If you prefer beef, pork, or chicken, order the sesame beef with lettuce, the BBQ pork, or the chicken with snow peas in gravy. If you’re not a fan of meat or following a plant-based diet, treat yourself to the vegetarian delight with bean curds or the Buddha’s delight vegetables served with steamed rice.
All of these Chinese places are a wonderful spot for a meal, and we’re already planning our next trip back. Once you’ve cleared your plate, take a trip to Buerkle Acura to pick out a quality car to call your own!

October 17 - First Walleye charter on Oneida Lake since Memorial Day. We were met with temps hovering around the freezing mark and a lake expelling her energy. The steam show and sunrise were pretty spectacular!
We found a nice school of fish in 17-19' fow on the South shore. First we hit them with silver blade baits, and then the slaughter started on size 7 jigging raps. The glow perch pattern started out on fire, but when the 🌞 popped out black/silver size 7 was easily the top bait of the morning. Clients called it at 11:30am with sore arms.

Garlic Ginger Walleye in Papillote (in Parchment)
This delicious fish dinner cooks in the oven in parchment paper packets for easy cleanup.
4 servings 50 minutes, not including time to cook quinoa
Ingredients
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons reduced sodium tamari
4 teaspoons minced fresh ginger
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 cups cooked quinoa
1 bunch (approx. 8 ounces) broccolini florets with trimmed stems
4 (5-ounce) walleye fillets
4 scallions, trimmed and chopped
⅓ cup Thai basil chiffonade (cut into ribbons)
½ teaspoon cracked black pepper (optional)
Directions
Heat oven to 425 F.
In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, tamari, minced ginger and minced garlic.
Cut 4 large sheets of parchment paper (approx. 12 x 15 inches each). Spread ½ cup of quinoa on the bottom third of each of the papers. Leave 2 inches on the edges for sealing.
Add broccolini to each paper.
Add a fish fillet, scallions, Thai basil and the olive oil/tamari mixture.
Tightly fold the packet closed so no steam will escape in cooking.
Bake parchment packages in the oven on a baking sheet for 15 minutes or until fish is cooked through and broccolini are crisp-tender.
Transfer the packets to serving plates and cut the packets open. Top with pepper if desired and serve immediately.

Alaska’s northern fur seals find refuge on tip of volcano
Alaska’s northern fur seal population for three decades has been classified as depleted, but the marine mammals are showing up in growing numbers at an unlikely location _ a tiny island that forms the tip of an active undersea volcano.
Vents on Bogoslof Island continue to spew mud, steam and sulfurous gases two years after an eruption sent ash clouds into the path of jetliners passing over the Bering Sea. Still, northern fur seal moms find the remote island’s rocky beaches perfect for giving birth and mothering pups.
“The population growth of northern fur seals on Bogoslof has been extraordinary,” said Tom Gelatt, who leads a NOAA Fisheries group that studies northern fur seals. Federal scientists visited the island in August.
Geographically speaking, the island is not a particularly unusual place for the seals known for their thick coats to hang out. Most of the world’s roughly 1.1 million northern fur seals breed in the eastern Bering Sea. The animals live in the ocean from November to June and head for land in summer to breed and nurse pups.
But why the seals chose volatile Bogoslof over the dozens of other uninhabited Aleutian Islands is unclear.
“The surface is covered with these big, ballistic blocks, some as big as 10 meters (33 feet) in length that were exploded out of the vent,” said Chris Waythomas, a U.S. Geological Survey research geophysicist at the Alaska Volcano Observatory. “They litter the surface. It’s pretty wild.”
The eastern Bering Sea population of northern fur seals numbers about 635,000, with their main breeding ground on St. Paul Island, 240 miles (390 kilometers) northwest of Bogoslof. A California stock in the San Miguel, Channel and Farallon Islands is estimated at about 14,000 animals. Other northern fur seals live in Russian waters, though it’s unclear how many.
Fur seals were first spotted on Bogoslof in 1980, and NOAA researchers have since conducted periodic checks on the population. In 2015, biologists estimated an annual growth rate of just over 10% to approximately 28,000 pups on the island. The 2019 estimate likely will be more than 36,000 pups, Gelatt said. Food in the deep water near the island could be a factor.
The animals stay on beaches, but on Bogoslof — which is about a third the size of New York City’s Central Park — they are never far from signs of volcanic activity.
The center of the island supports a field of fumaroles, openings through which hot gases emerge. Some roar “like jet engines” and spurt mud geysers several meters high, Waythomas said. He has visited the last two summers.
“It was amazing, the sounds that were being produced,” he said.
Eruptions in 2016 and 2017 showered the landscape with rocks and killed all vegetation. They also shrank and grew the island. Explosions destroyed acres of Bogoslof only to have fragmented material blown from lava vents create new real estate. The island remains about 0.5 square miles (1.2 square kilometers).
Bogoslof is surrounded by deep water, and its seals eat squid and northern smoothtongue, a deep-water fish that looks like a smelt. Seals on St. Paul, the largest of the Pribilof Islands, forage on the shallow continental shelf for walleye pollock, a fish targeted by commercial fishermen.
Females with pups on Bogoslof return from foraging faster than Pribilof mothers, possibly allowing their pups to receive more meals and wean at a larger size, Gelatt said. Bogoslof also is closer to winter feeding grounds south of the Aleutians, possibly allowing pups to reach the grounds with less risk from Bering Sea storms.
Northern fur seals are distinct from harbor, ringed, bearded, ribbon and spotted seals in Alaska, which have no ear flaps. Northern fur seals, like sea lions, are eared seals. They were named for their concentrated fur: Fur seals have 350,000 hairs per square inch (60,000 hairs per square centimeter).
The animals have a prominent role in the history of colonized Alaska. After hunting sea otters to near-extinction, Russian traders turned to northern fur seals and relocated Aleuts to the Pribilofs to kill and process seals. When Emperor Alexander II needed cash and decided to sell Alaska to the United States in 1867, fur was one of the future state’s known assets.
But by 1988, four years after the commercial harvest ended on St. Paul, the northern fur seal population had declined by more than half from its 1950s estimated population of 2.1 million animals.
NOAA biologists don’t know why northern fur seals have not made a comeback.
“That’s the million-dollar question,” Gelatt said. Competition for prey from the commercial fishing fleet, predation by killer whales, disease and ecosystem changes affecting seal or prey behavior are possibilities.
Volcanic activity on Bogoslof has been relatively stable, but Gelatt’s crew chose not to camp there during their weeklong August expedition, fearing a recurrence of explosions that could shoot boulders like bottle rockets. They instead made day trips from an anchored boat.
The crew tallied seals and assessed whether aerial images taken from unmanned aircraft could be used in future counts. As fewer seals breed on St. Paul Island, the growth on Bogoslof is significant.
“Barring other future catastrophic eruptions that could dramatically change the geography of the island, there is plenty of room for a lot more seals on Bogoslof,” Gelatt said.

The best wild game and fish recipes for the Fourth of July
This story originally published on Fieldandstream.com.
If you have a slab or two of wild boar ribs in the freezer, now is a good time to thaw them. (Christopher Testani / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
The Fourth of July is sort of like the Thanksgiving of Summer—which is to say that it’s a holiday centered around a lot of great food shared with friends and family. Whereas the oven does the bulk of the cooking during Thanksgiving, for Independence Day it’s all about the grill (OK, and the deep fryer and the smoker). To help you plan the ultimate Fourth of July menu, we’ve gathered some of our favorite recipes featuring grilled, barbecued, and smoked wild game, as well as recipes for whole grilled fish and deep-fried fillets. So go ahead and fire up the grill, then sit back and enjoy the fireworks.
The only sides you need with a corn dog are good mustard and a cold root beer. (Christina Holmes / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
Bring carnival cuisine to your Independence Day party with this crowd-pleasing recipe for wild-game corn dogs. We like to use venison or elk sausage here, but your favorite wild-game links—whether they are filled with hog, waterfowl, or upland meat—will work just fine.
A whole fish makes for an impressive trophy meal. (Christopher Testani / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
A grilled whole fish is always a showstopper, and it’s not at all as hard to prepare as it looks. This recipe, from chef and angler Ford Fry, is perfect for saltwater species like snapper, grouper, or striped bass, but there’s no reason why a three-pound largemouth bass couldn’t be subbed in with fantastic results.
These fall-off-the-bone ribs won’t last long at a summer barbeque. (Christopher Testani / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
If you ask us, the Mount Rushmore of Fourth of July grub includes the following: watermelon, corn on the cob, burgers, and ribs. And these ribs—which get smoked for 2 to 4 hours before they’re slathered with your favorite barbecue sauce—are some of the best we’ve ever had.
A good venison burger never disappoints—just keep it medium rare. (Christopher Testani / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
The perfect venison burger starts with cold, coarse ground meat—about a quarter pound’s worth—formed into a loose patty. Don’t overwork the meat or press it too thin, or it’ll dry out. To prevent your patty from blowing up into a ball as it cooks, push your thumb about halfway into its middle. Grill the burger over a very hot fire. This’ll give you a better crust, which is where the rich flavor resides. If you want a little smoke, throw a handful of wood chips in with the coals. Cook the burger for 3 minutes, then flip once—and only once. Grill it for another 3 minutes to get a moist, medium-rare finish. Also: American cheese only, please. This is Independence Day, after all.
Beer-can chicken—a staple of summer barbecue and tailgate parties—takes a wild spin in this recipe. (Christopher Testani / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
Shoving a beer can up a chicken’s rear end is a summertime rite of passage for serious grillers. This recipe adapts the hops-roasting technique with something a little wilder—a ringneck pheasant. Since most beer cans are too wide for the small cavity of a pheasant, you’ll need a can with a slimmer profile. Energy-drink cans, such as Red Bull, fit perfectly. Rinse the can inside and out, then refill it with a cream stout, which adds a mellow aroma via the steamed flavor infusion and tempers the kick of the spicy rub.
Pair this fish dish with some sweet corn, and you’ve got a delicious summer meal. (Plamen Petkov / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
Two midwestern staples—walleye and pretzels—come together here in this fast dish that’s perfectly tailored for a lazy summer evening. Mustard keeps the crushed pretzels on the fish, ensuring a crispy crust. Enjoy with a gold glass of lemonade, or your favorite pilsner.
No utensils necessary here. Grab a chop by the bone, and chow down. (Christopher Testani / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
For this recipe, from award-winning chef Charlie Palmer, who’s also a serious hunter, utensils are optional. It’s much easier, and more fun, to eat these by hand. A tomahawk chop is simply a bone-in backstrap steak. If you don’t have any in your freezer, boneless steaks or chops will do fine. They just won’t look as awesome.
Dove meat, bacon, mushrooms, and cheese on grilled pizza dough. What’s not to love? (Plamen Petkov / Food and prop styling by Roscoe Betsill/)
If you don’t have dove meat in the freezer from last season, you can swap in breast meat from a wild turkey or a pheasant; venison will also do the trick here. And not to play favorites, but this is one of the best Wild Chef recipes we’ve ever published.
Fried spuds wrapped with deer steak—bet you can’t eat just one. (Tess Rousey/)
Steak and potatoes are an All-American Meal—and especially so when the meat is a fresh chunk of whitetail venison. (Though feel free to use mule deer, elk, moose, or even antelope.) These poppers come together quickly, cook fast, and fly off the serving plate even faster.

The Most Important Food to Avoid During Pregnancy
Along with the many food groups that you should include in your pregnancy diet to make sure that you and your baby get the proper nutrients, vitamins, and minerals for healthy growth and development, there are also several types of food that you should avoid during pregnancy. These are foods that have a higher risk of being contaminated with bacteria or parasites, and since pregnancy causes a woman’s immune system to become slightly compromised, foods that may have been eaten before pregnancy without worry could now be a health risk.
The top foods to avoid during pregnancy are:
* Unpasteurized Milk
* Soft Cheeses
* Raw Eggs
* Raw Meat & Undercooked Poultry
* Deli Meats & Hot Dogs
* Pate
* Raw or Seared Fish and Fish That Contain Mercury
* Smoked Seafood
* Game Fish
* Raw Shellfish
* Unwashed Vegetables
* Alcohol
* Caffeine
Unpasteurized Milk
Unpasteurized milk can carry bacteria such as listeria, a bacteria that’s found in soil and stream water. Listeria can cause listeriosis and can cross the placental barrier which can cause miscarriage, preterm delivery, infection to the baby, and possibly death to the newborn. Contracting listeriosis from listeria is rare, but pregnant women are more more susceptible.
Soft Cheeses
Soft cheeses, such as Feta, Brie, Gorgonzola, Roquefort, Camembert, blue-veined cheese, and Mexican-style cheese that include queso blanco or queso fresco are not safe to eat during pregnancy because they are made from unpasteurized milk. Unpasteurized milk can carry bacteria such as listeria (mentioned above). When in doubt, check the label on the cheese to make sure it states that it’s made with pasteurized milk.
Raw Eggs
Eggs are a great source of quality protein. The yolks also contain choline, an essential amino acid that’s helpful for brain development and the formation of the neural tube in the early stages of pregnancy. However, in raw form they can potentially contain salmonella, which pregnant women are more susceptible to contracting. Order your eggs scrambled rather than sunny-side up or over easy during pregnancy. And avoid foods that are made with raw egg, such as raw cookie dough or cake batter.
Raw Meat & Undercooked Poultry
Raw meats and undercooked poultry could contain coliform bacteria, toxoplasmosis, and salmonella. While it’s said to be relatively rare, these can can cause stillbirth or other serious health problems. Be sure to cook your poultry all the way through and your meats between medium to medium-well so that there isn’t any pink showing. Remember to always wash your hands thoroughly after handling.
Deli Meats & Hot Dogs
Deli meats and hot dogs are said to be unsafe to eat during pregnancy because they’ve been known to be contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that’s found in soil and stream water. Listeria can cause listeriosis and can cross the placental barrier which can cause miscarriage, preterm delivery, infection to the baby, and possibly death to the newborn. Contracting listeriosis from listeria is rare, but pregnant women are much more more susceptible. Even if deli meats and hot dogs have been been properly refrigerated, unless they are heated until steaming hot, it is not safe to eat them during your pregnancy. But if you must, you should also wash your hands thoroughly after handling. You’re safer to just avoid them altogether.
Pate
Pate can carry bacteria such as listeria, a bacteria that’s found in soil and stream water. Listeria can cause listeriosis and can cross the placental barrier which can cause miscarriage, preterm delivery, infection to the baby, and possibly death to the newborn. Contracting listeriosis from listeria is rare, but pregnant women are much more more susceptible.
Raw or Seared Fish and Fish that Contain Mercury
Fish that contain high mercury levels and that should be avoided include king mackerel, shark, swordfish, tilefish, and albacore tuna. However, canned light tuna contains much lower amounts of mercury, but it should still be eaten in small portions and in moderation – no more than once a week. Mercury consumed during pregnancy can have negative effects on fetal brain development. It’s best to avoid sushi during pregnancy as well since uncooked and even seared fish is more likely to contain bacteria or parasites than cooked fish.
Smoked Seafood
Smoked seafood, such as smoked salmon, trout, whitefish, tuna, cod and mackerel could be contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that’s found in soil and stream water. Listeria can cause listeriosis and can cross the placental barrier which can cause miscarriage, preterm delivery, infection to the baby, and possibly death to the newborn. Contracting listeriosis from listeria is rare, but pregnant women are much more more susceptible. These types of seafood, often labeled as lox, nova, smoked, kippered, or jerky, are only safe to eat during pregnancy as an ingredient in a cooked dish or casserole.
Game Fish
Game fish are fish caught for sport in local lakes, rivers, or streams, such as trout, salmon, bass, pike, bluefish, and walleye. The concern is about pollution that could be in the water and contaminate the fish. Check with your local health department or the Environmental Protection Agency to find out which waters are safe to eat from.
Raw Shellfish
According to the Food and Drug Administration, raw shellfish, which includes oysters, clams, and mussels are responsible for causing the majority of seafood borne illnesses. These illnesses, including Salmonella and other types of bacterial, parasitic, and viral infections can be serious for anyone, not just pregnant women. Cooking can help to prevent some of these types of infection, but not algae-related infections associated with red tides. It’s best to avoid raw as well as cooked shellfish during pregnancy.
Unwashed Vegetables
The only reason vegetables are on this list is because they should be thoroughly washed before eating. Unwashed vegetables could be contaminated with toxoplasma, a parasite that can be found in soil and can cause an infection that, although relatively rare, can cause stillbirth or serious health problems.
Alcohol
Drinking alcohol during pregnancy increases the risk of miscarriage and stillbirth and is the leading cause of birth defects. Alcohol exposure before birth puts the baby at risk for fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) which can include any of a slew of problems ranging from learning disabilities to physical abnormalities to disorders of the central nervous system.
Caffeine
There are studies that show that caffeine in moderation (under 300 mg a day) is OK and others that show it could be related to miscarriage, preterm labor, low-birth weight, and withdrawal symptoms in newborns for the first few days after birth. With inconclusive evidence, it’s best to avoid caffeine during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. However, know that caffeine is a diuretic, which means that it increases the frequency of urination which can cause dehydration and calcium loss. It’s also a stimulant, which means that it also increases blood pressure and heart rate. It also can also contribute to heart burn. None of this is ideal, so it’s best to avoid caffeine during pregnancy.
