Before she grew suspicious, you had to convince your mother that they were from your old friend Anne. 
When the ton returned to London in the spring and Anthony next came to meet with your father, he sought you out and you spoke for an hour about your respective winters. Weeks later, he gave you a book about the law. You gave him a pamphlet about the dangers of imbibing and laughed when you saw his sardonic smirk for the first time. The conversation flowed easily, as did the jokes and ribbing. He did not treat you with the honor and flattery typically required for delicate young ladies, and you did not treat him with the deference and respect typically owed a viscount. Perhaps it was because of the differences in your social strata that neither of you feared reproach, or more likely, it was the unique and vulnerable circumstances in which you met that put you at ease with one another thereafter.
Slowly but surely, Anthony Bridgerton became your friend. One of your best friends, in fact. More akin to the brother you always wished to have. The years passed and you both grew older. You continued to study with your father and refused to debut, and the pressures and complications of Anthony’s life only increased. Your family lived year round in London, so you only had the opportunity to see him during the parliamentary season when he was in town. Not engaging in the social soirees yourself, this limited your chance meetings to his appointments with your father, or passing each other on a promenade. When in public, you always made time for a friendly exchange, but were careful not to meet too long or too frequently, lest the rumor mill begin roiling that you were courting one another, which could only elevate your reputation, but would seriously complicate and diminish his. Besides, nothing could be further from the truth.
You found ways to have more meaningful conversations a few times a year. Anthony had started keeping his own apartments in the city separate from his family home, and you would meet him there to swap stories over brandy, reminiscent of your first encounter. He would tell you about the Bridgerton estate, its finances and property issues, things most others would find boring or tedious, but you listened with rapt attention. It was helping you to broaden your legal knowledge, seeing how all the rules in your father’s enormous books were applied in the real world. You would press him for details, figures, examples, and he would smile as you hypothesized and argued and counseled, referring him of course to your father for a final assessment.
He also told you about the mounting pressure to marry, directed at him by his mother. He made it clear that he was reluctant to do so, but would never reveal precisely why. You had heard the stories around town of course. Lord Bridgerton the rake had a reputation. But you could hear in his tone that it wasn’t the monogamy he took issue with. His look grew haunted whenever he talked about finding love, and it was love itself that seemed to scare him, for whatever reason. He never asked you about your love life, not that there was one to speak of. He had known from the beginning that you were not interested in finding a husband, and he understood the annoyance of being asked and cajoled about such things, so he didn’t visit this upon you.
He brightened when he told you about the opera singer. He never claimed to love her, but remained interested in her exclusively for several years. From what he shared with you, you weren’t sure she gave him the respect he deserved, but protective though you may have been, it made you happy just to see him happy, and so you listened supportively. You met her once when you crossed paths on Anthony’s doorstep, you heading home and her coming in. She was very pretty. Anthony assured you later that he had told her you were dropping off documents for your father, so there was no jealousy or suspicion. You were grateful he kept your meetings secret, but felt a stab of bitterness that he would not claim you as his friend. You supposed that would only have complicated things. 
The meetings weren’t all happy, though. Anthony’s demons roared through him from time to time; when he was exhausted from dealing with the estate’s affairs, or when he had gotten into a row with a sibling or his mother, or when he and the opera singer were taking yet another break in their tumultuous romance. Then he would drink too much and grow either bitter and cold, or helpless and broken. Once, when you were trying to offer advice on how to untangle a knot in his finances, he shouted at you, snapping that you didn’t know what you were talking about because you weren’t a solicitor, never would be, and were just playing a stupid game dreaming of an impossible future.
You were fairly certain both of your hearts stopped as you froze, staring at each other. When you spun to make for the door, suddenly his arms were around you, pulling you tightly against him as he uttered a hundred apologies and pleas for you to stay, tears starting to roll down his face. Despite yourself, you started to cry too, and held him back. It was the first time you had ever embraced, in the many years you had been friends. You had never been so close to a man who was not your relation, and it felt so comforting, so sure. It felt like he was family, a brother, an extension of yourself. You knew he hadn’t meant what he said. You knew very well by now the pain he lived with day to day, and you knew that it took control of him sometimes. But you also knew that his heart was good and pure, that he was your dear friend, and that you needed each other. 
You had tried, gently through the years, to ask him if he confided any of his challenges to his family. He always answered vaguely, alluding to conversations with a brother or his mother, but you got the impression he never truly opened up to them and thereby didn’t receive their full support. You knew him well enough to know that vulnerability was not in his nature, especially when sober. He had to be steadfast, a bulwark between his family and the world, and admitting to them that he was struggling in any way would be considered a deficiency in his estimation. It was only you, you realized, that he allowed himself to show weakness to. Only you had been allowed to peer beneath the mask that he wore for society, all thanks to your messy chance meeting that night years ago, when he had unwittingly shown you his worst self and you reacted with nothing but kindness. He never shouted at you again. 
Anthony embraced you the second time when your father died. It had been winter, and he had passed suddenly in his sleep. A brain hemorrhage the doctors said. Word was sent to all of his clients and your household was flipped upside down, with assessors and businessmen, colleagues and friends moving in and out, offering condolences but more often looking for paperwork. You did your best to handle everything smoothly and manage his affairs while your mother locked herself away in grief. You didn’t really have time to cry. Until you opened the front door three days after it happened, and Anthony was on the doorstep, shoulders white with the heavy snow that was falling. He simply said your name and you fell apart entirely, collapsing into his arms as he held you tightly, shushing you and stroking your hair. You don’t remember moving into the study together, but that’s where you stayed for the next few hours, crying yourself out into his shoulder. You were bonded closer now, adding the bitterness of fatherlessness to the list of all you had in common. You leaned against him as you sat on the floor by the fire, talking through everything you had to do, and how he would help you accomplish it all.
Months later, with your father’s practice officially closed and your family’s finances pored over, your paths for the future became clear. If you pursued your goal of working as a governess, you would be able to support yourself and live with whatever family hired you, but there would be no income for your mother to survive upon and maintain your family home. She would need to move in with your uncle and the added mouth to feed would stretch his finances uncomfortably. You were collectively facing a diminishment in lifestyle, most likely a descent into noble poverty.
The alternative, of course, was for you to marry. Even marrying a gentleman from a lesser noble house similar to yours would replace your father’s income and allow you to keep your home and keep your mother comfortably within it. When your uncle proposed this, your mother looked at you in alarm, assuring you that you did not need to do anything you did not want to. She would not ask you to divert your dreams and end up miserably bound in a loveless marriage for the rest of your life just for her sake. She was willing to sacrifice everything for your chance at independence. But you couldn’t let her. The thought of losing your home, the only one you had ever known, and of seeing your family sink and struggle, the humiliation and hardship of it all, was something you didn’t want anyone to shoulder. Their fate was in your hands and you would save them. You would find a husband.
Besides, you told yourself, it was not a guarantee that you would end up in a loveless or unhappy marriage. There had to be some decent, amiable gentlemen among the ton. Although you doubted if any of them would still be available or interested in you, a twenty-seven year old spinster with no money and too many opinions, but you kept these thoughts to yourself.

Karl barely recovered from the mental imagery that flooded his mind, as he yanked backward on a suddenly-heavy object.  Eva could find and harness whatever one would call beings like Ethan when they were lost inside the mold’s strata.  His magnetic field amplified the strength of her powers, but the credit all went to her.  They’d caught a Winters.   
Ethan needed a goddamn leash and collar, but this combined-effort wrangling would have to do for now.  Upon touching the familiar neck, wrapping his arm quickly around it as it appeared and jerking backward with his entire force, including the magnetic field, Heisenberg’s mind was flooded with…a something.  It was more than a memory or a visual, because he could actually smell, hear, sense …things.  
Ethan, in bed with Miranda. 
The field dropped abruptly.  
When the blond found his footing, Karl managed-as he always did-to change gears quickly and aggressively, ranting to the man about his recklessness, going into the mold strata without Eva.  There was a hidden insult there; Karl felt as though Ethan trusted Eva more than he trusted Heisenberg to be alone with Rosemary.  They had already argued over this, Ethan’s defense that he simply wanted to learn independently, but it didn’t help the feelings of rejection. 
Karl was still yelling when the pair turned away and strode toward the open dining room door.  Karl angrily kicked at a ceramic planter in the garden and stomped toward the tool shed.

Heisenberg left the domestication to those who were domesticated, and he instead spent the morning working on some of the larger equipment in the newly-constructed garage.  The mansion was built on the crest of a cliff, but the rolling hills that sloped away from it were prime real estate–they had once been used as servants’ quarters, stables, tea rooms and livestock barns along with who knew what other dumb shit.  
So naturally all of that had been torn apart, a large plateau created, and on it built a large wooden warehouse structure that now held some of his beloved rusty companions.  He would never admit it to Ethan, but Karl preferred the covered wooden building to the pile of vehicles and parts that preceded it.  Ethan liked the building, which they all called the ‘garage’, because it looked better than the junk.  
Karl liked it because it felt safe inside.  A big towering hangar over his head, walls around him.  It felt like home.  
It was no factory, but it would do.  
And though his anger earlier in the morning was palpable, and sincere, he couldn’t help but feel more flustered and agitated than anything while working on the array of vehicles.  
The image was still burning into his consciousness as if it wanted a place there, and even though it felt like something he shouldn’t be watching–felt like invading someone else’s head-he nonetheless allowed the scene to play over and over again.  
It had to be real.  It felt too real.  
Miranda on the bed, her back to smooth silken sheets.  She was absolutely lost in ecstasy, moaning and making noises that Karl could have gone the rest of his very long life without hearing.  Whatever transferred from her mind was unreadable as human thought–it felt far more carnal, like Karl’s own…sensations.  
Gross.
That wasn’t the reason he allowed it to keep invading his mind.  
Ethan was on top of her, inside her.  Karl could likewise feel and sense all of the other man’s sensations, moans, spoken whispers.  Plenty of reason to hit repeat on that one.  
But Ethan, in contrast to Miranda, had a stream of consciousness, even if most of it was wordless.  This was the part that made Karl feel as if he were trespassing.  With only the timid sound of the socket wrench ratcheting as he turned it, Karl could not drown out the thoughts from the memory.  
Something’s not right.  So many arguments.  Fighting lately.  How do I fix this?  
The emotions felt by Winters were palpable.  Love.  Fear.  Confusion.  
Pretty much summed up the blond, really.  Not very sexy, to be thinking all that while fucking somebody, but Karl wasn’t surprised.  Ethan needed a bit of manhandling to forget his worries, which were many but had lessened as months went on.   Karl was happy to provide the manhandling, but as the engineer shook his head to rid his mind of the intrusive sensations, he recalled something else.  
Shit, today was just all about memories.  
He huffed and stood, deciding to cross the backyard gardens where another tool shed awaited him.  Maybe the fresh air and walk would do him good.

January 
Miranda’s Lab
“I know why Alcina requests the mother, but we have more testing to do before I am ready to discard her.  I do not think I have time to find another surgeon, before I move next to bring the child.  How comfortable are you with a scalpel?”
Heisenberg’s greying eyebrows rose over his glasses.  He didn’t need them here.  It was a subterranean lab, after all.  But he hated this place so ferociously he needed the cover, or Miranda would see the bitter disgust and even fear in his eyes.  
“On a…uh…live one?”  He shrugged.  “Ehhh?”  
“I see,” she snapped, disappointed, and strode down the hallway toward the cell rows.  “Well, in that case, move her to my main laboratory.  The cell there is far more protected and isolated.  You will need to tend to her while I am away.” 
Protected, from what?  It wasn’t like the American could do anything.  Miranda kept her sedated, and she’d had so much blood taken that she was woozy both times he’d laid eyes on her.  He nodded mutely when Miranda procured the keys and handed them to her ‘son.’ 
Heisenberg leaned against the far wall, not willing to make eye contact with the prisoner, who didn’t seem to notice him every time he’d tagged along here with Miranda.  He’d met her before, years ago.  But would she even remember him? 
Miranda’s words to the captive were syrupy, sweet.  Not what he expected.  “Your husband is quite a man.”  
Was that a taunt or a compliment?
The woman was on the cell bed, dark hair covering her face.  
“Ethan? You have to leave him alone.  You have to–” 
“He is in good hands,” Miranda answered, and then came the sinister chuckle.  Karl had more than an inkling of what she meant, and a stony expression crept across his face.  In a few more minutes, he would become more dissociated than the prisoner.  
And what was it she’d said to him when they walked together toward Miranda’s lab?  Karl had to mostly carry her.  
“Ethan cannot know.  It would destroy him to find out.  He can’t .  She won’t tell him, will she?”  It was a desperate woman’s babbling, nothing more, but Karl couldn’t help but to reassure her.  
“He won’t find out,” he said simply, and she heaved a pained sigh.  
Inwardly, Karl mused; of course he would, at some point.  
Half the fun, for Miranda, was the GOTCHA at the end.  She would parade herself as a loved one, do the most intimate of intimate things, and then reveal.  She loved that part of the game.  Whatever idiot had married this American researcher, who Karl was beginning to believe was cursed–would find out at some point who he’d been sleeping with. 
They all did, eventually.

The memory of the meeting near Miranda’s lab only served to make Karl more angry at Miranda, but even that could not get the morning’s memory–vision, of Ethan, from his mind. 
He had crossed the winding trails of the gardens that made up the rear of the estate, but Karl rubbed his forehead as he stood in the shade of the smaller tool shed.  He was covered in sweat, and he hadn’t even put on his coat or hat this morning.  The shade did little to help the perspiration or the intense, itchy, hot feeling all across his skin. 
Maybe food would help.  
Now wasn’t a good time for him to be around Ethan, though.  The repeated invasive memories were gnawing at his mind, and at other parts of him too.  Namely everything under his belt.  And while those feelings were probably rooted in something reasonable, he could almost sense the loss of control creeping back on him.  
He’d just shocked the little fucker in his brain a few months ago, and it had taken a lot out of him.  More than it ever had, likely due to his own transformation and subsequent “death”.  
Karl couldn’t reanimate the same way that Eva and Ethan were capable of, and he was stuck in this one goddamn body with this one motherfucking DNA-altered nematode as a compulsory companion.  And while most of the time he didn’t wish for his own reckless demise, he wished for it fervently every time these implanted, Miranda-esque urges manifested within him.  
He was different from the others; most with cadou turned mindless.  Miranda had worked with the Lords, her own timely investment, to prevent this with them.  Implanted them herself, no less.  But it came with its own set of consequences.   None of the four were spared horrible side effects, though Karl knew he was far luckier than his siblings, all things considered.  
It still sucked. 
He smelled something fragrant; his mouth watered.  And there he was, goddammit, walking down the hill toward Karl with a sour expression on his handsome face.  He’d showered–Karl could smell the homemade soap on his skin.  He’d combed his hair into its neat little blond side part.  The scent of aftershave appeared not long after and Karl inhaled deeply.  He could even smell the scent of summer sun on the blond’s clothing and hair. 
Ethan was staring at him, a trepidatious expression crossing over the scowl.  He was still mad, probably.  Mad that Karl had chewed him out this morning, mad that the engineer hadn’t been present at breakfast, probably mad about other stuff that Karl didn’t have a hope in hell to decipher.  But the intensity of Karl’s stare caused the blond to become cautious.  
He was leering, Heisenberg realized, but couldn’t bring himself to stop.   It was twice as enchanting to see this absolute grouch of a creature bringing him food.  Something about it pleased Heisenberg.   
Ethan was now in the doorway of the shed and he held out the plate and glass with as much apprehension as a child attempting to feed a bear.  
Karl tore his gloves off and moved into Winters’ personal space, but kept his fingers flexed, working to process him without touch at first.  Better that way.  
“Karl?”
The engineer stepped to Ethan’s side and inhaled by Winters’ neck.  All of the smells congregated here, seeming to be propelled into the air by the strong, warm pulse that sat under the pale skin.  He wanted to bite it, but…later.  Karl’s beard grazed the skin, but then he was inhaling again and moving around to Ethan’s other shoulder. 
The scowl on Ethan’s face was replaced with an uncertain smile.  The taller man watched Heisenberg appear at his left shoulder and didn’t hesitate to make eye contact.  “You’re in a mood.” 
“So I am.” 
“You need to eat.” 
That part was true.  Karl grabbed the toasted sandwich–he could smell eggs, some kind of grilled meat, melting cheese-and began to scarf it down.  He didn’t take the plate nor the drink, leaving Ethan to stare at him with an exasperated glare while he choked the food down.  
It was delicious, but he barely tasted it. 
Ethan’s smile was now completely gone as he handed out the glass of water.  Karl began gulping, and Ethan sat the plate on a nearby table so that he could cross his arms over his chest.  
“You know, if you’d actually condescend to come and eat regular meals, you–”
Karl was done with the water, and the glass had crashed to the ground before he realized it.  He sighed, hoping that the sensation of being full would hit his body soon, cause him to slow down.  Cause him to be…not this way.  
“--Are you okay?”  Ethan was dense, but he was also intuitive, at least when it came to Karl.  Well, sometimes.  He was getting better.  
The engineer sighed and fished around his hips.  No such luck at feeling immediately satiated.  Maybe a cigar while he waited.  His fingers danced through the multiple pockets.  
“Ahh…uh. I.”  Karl couldn’t lie to the other man.  He risked a glance, seeing the familiar crossed arms and that soft pout that always begged for a kiss.  He blinked rapidly, finding a lighter at least.  
“I accidentally uh… got in your head when I pulled you out,” he said finally, in a flatter tone than his usual cadence.  “Goddammit, where the hell.” 
Ethan tensed.  His arms uncrossed.  “What….what did you see?”
“You an….uhhhh….”
Ethan’s hazel eyes widened.  “Mia?  In bed?”
Karl’s dance through all of his pockets ceased entirely.  He blinked and paused.  Not Mia.
Ethan’s frown came back as if his face were awaiting it.  “What do you mean, not Mia?”
“I didn’t say that,” Karl snapped, but now Ethan glared, and snapped back just as quickly, “What do you MEAN, not Mia?”
“What do you think,” Karl growled, his lips pulling back over his teeth, old scar stinging as he tested its limits, then bit down as if to stop himself from talking more.  He didn’t want to say more.  He bit so hard that his lip threatened to bleed.  But if he focused on that, he wouldn’t think things that Ethan could hear. 
Ethan’s angry stare moved to something else.  Contemplative.  Worried.  His eyes lost their intensity and he glanced at the ground, before he exhaled deeply.  “I can’t deal with this today.  Your…spy….will be here in an hour.  I’ve got to finish…” 
“My spy?” The tone said, let’s fight, Winters. 
Ethan’s reply was cold.  “I told you I can’t deal with this, Heisenberg.” 
Karl’s snarl turned into a sneer.  “Oh come on,” he challenged, with a toss of his hair.  “Let me give you somethin’ you wanna deal with.” 
The blond’s eyebrows raised, and by the reddening of his cheeks, Karl surmised that he was considering it.  But he stuttered out a response that indicated his intent to stay angry.  
“You-you’re! Acting this way because you....  I get it was an accident.  But you saw.  Me. Uh.  You saw me being intimate and–WILL YOU STOP SMILING AT ME LIKE THAT?”
Karl stretched his shoulders, shaking out the mane.  
“Karl, no!  We don’t have the time.  For this, for any of this.  I–” 
“I’ll be quick then.” 
Ethan made an annoyed sound.  
“How about a….three second head start?”
Ethan’s nostrils flared, and his blush deepened as he backed away, holding up a finger.  “Dammit, I said no!”
“Five then.” 
“Karl!” 
“One!” 
“You fucking asshole!” 
“Two!” 
Ethan’s backing steps turned into a stumble, and he spun on his heel to disappear into the gardens.  Karl’s giggle-turned-loud-laugh was through a wide grin.  
After the laugh, he called one more word over the tall grass.  
“Five!”

Hari pertama di Dubai kita ke Burj Al Arab. Burj Al Arab artinya “Menara Arab”. Hotel yang arsitekturnya kayak yacht Arab tradisional. Kalau ikut tour pastinya don’t expect too much. Di sini cuma singgah aja di depan (sebelum pos satpam hotel) buat foto dengan view hotel yang iconic.
Sepanjang jalan menuju Burj Al Arab, kalian bakal disuguhkan pemandangan rumah-rumah besar dan mewah. Udah paham strata sosial di Dubai kan? Kalau locals itu hanya ada kategori rich, very rich, very very rich, dan crazy rich. Locals tapi ya! Yang beneran warga negara UAE (Emirati), bukan pendatang. Pokoknya kalau locals dari lahir sampai meninggal bakal diprovide sama Sheikh.

Burj Al Arab ini hotel yang konsepnya “kemewahan Arab”. Hotel bintang 7, ratenya start dari 27 juta IDR semalam. Tapi, sejak masa pandemi mereka bikin “tour inside Al Arab” buat keliling Burj Al Arab. Jadi bisa datang untuk foto-foto aja.
Nah, paketannya kalau berdasarkan insideburjalarab.com ada yang tour + minum kopi berlapis emas, ada tour + spa, dsb. Tour keliling Burj Al Arab dan ngopi cappuccino ber-sprinkle emas dibanderol dengan harga 399 AED atau sekitar 1,7 juta IDR. Termasuk murah untuk luxury experience, nggak? (Please, jangan dihujat karena nanti di part-part selanjutnya bakal lebih fantastis lagi harga-harga atraksinya).
Di depan Burj Al Arab, udah puas foto-foto, kita lanjut keliling Palm Jumeirah. Palm Jumeirah adalah gugusan pulau buatan yang bentuknya seperti pohon palem. Isinya real estate dan hotel berbintang, ada juga apartemen-apartemen mewah yang dibeli artis-artis Hollywood. Sebenarnya Burj Al Arab ini juga termasuk dalam Palm Jumeirah tapi kita jalan ke sisi-sisi lainnya.

Next, kita ke tempat nongkrong masyarakat Palm Jumeirah. Walaupun sebenarnya pas ke sini juga nggak ketemu Emirati, dan banyakan pendatang. Jadi, ini namanya The Pointe. Kayak tempat rekreasi keluarga, di pinggir pantai. Bisa main air di pantai, kayaking, naik boat, dsb. Ada tempat shopping, resto, arcade, dan tempat bikin festival-festival gitu tiap weekend. Mirip dengan Pier 39 di San Fransisco tapi ini versi high end.

Foto Hotel Atlantis The Palm yang diambil dari The Pointe. Hotel ini yang ada perosotan dan waterboomnya melewati kolam ikan hiu itu (sering lihat pas scroll reels di instagram). Rate semalam di Hotel Atlantis ini start from 11 jutaan IDR.

Yang berbeda dari Starbucks Indonesia apa, Nad? Pertama menunya dong pasti! Yang kedua cemilannya banyak banget! Starbucks UAE ini isi cemilannya beraneka ragam. Coklat susu bentuk telur, pretzels, coklat almond. Keripik kentang, kacang-kacangan, buah kering.Sampai bingung. Emirati apa suka ngemil banget ya?

Yang dipesen di Starbucks Dubai nama minumannya “Double Caramel Frappucino”. Sebagai orang yang tidak suka minuman manis termasuk caramel macchiato, frappucinonya ENAK! Caramelnya beda dengan Starbucks lain, kayak caramel yang salted dan rasanya kayak nggak terlalu manis, tapi caramel? Bingung, pokoknya enak! Jalanannya menurutku persis di film Disney zaman SMP, Meet The Robinsons. GIF sebelah kanan itu kelihatan public transportnya masyarakat Dubai, seperti MRT cuman relnya di atas. Seatnya ada kelas-kelasnya kayak Gold, Silver, dll. Tapi kalau naik, make sure kalian duduk sesuai tiket yang dibeli soalnya di Dubai itu strict banget masalah public rules. Kalau kalian pendatang di Dubai, jangan berani macam-macam. Hukumannya sedikit-sedikit deportasi. Bahkan ada yang sampai dicekal, nggak bisa masuk Dubai lagi seumur hidup.

The building has had many identities over the years. Since September 2019, 20 Cecil Street has been owned by a private fund managed by CapitaLand. It had paid over $500 million ($2,320 psf) for Plaza Ventures, the holding company that owns the commercial tower located at 20 Cecil Street. Name changes over the years The previous owner, Hong Kong-listed Fullshare Holdings, a real estate developer based in Nanjing, China — chaired by Chinese billionaire Ji Changqun — in turn paid $725.2 million ($2,900 psf) for Plaza Ventures back in February 2017. It was Fullshare that had renamed the building PLUS. Prior to that, the tower was called GSH Plaza. It bore that name following the purchase by a consortium led by Singapore-listed GSH Corp, controlled by Singaporean businessman Sam Goi, for $550 million in 2014. The consortium was made up of GSH Corp (51% stake), together with Vibrant DB2 (35%) and Goi’s private investment vehicle, TYJ Group (14%). The consortium was called Plaza Ventures. The $550 million price tag in 2014 translated to $2,181 psf, based on the net lettable area of 252,000 sq ft then. In its earlier incarnation, the building was known as Equity Plaza from 2003 to 2014. For much of the 1990s, it was the headquarters of the Stock Exchange of Singapore: first, it was named the Stock Exchange of Singapore from January 1994 to November 1999, and then Singapore Exchange from December 1999 to November 2001. When the Stock Exchange moved to its new headquarters at SGX Centre on Shenton Way, the building at 20 Cecil Street was renamed Equity Plaza. The 99-year, leasehold building has a lease from 1989, hence there are 77 years left on the lease. The building was developed by Keppel Land and completed in 1992. It was jointly owned by Keppel Land and its fund management arm, Alpha Investment Partners (AIP), before it was sold in 2014. $100 million makeover For much of the 22 years, when it was under the ownership of Keppel Land and AIP, the building bore a reddish brown façade. Following its acquisition by Plaza Ventures, the building underwent a $100 million refurbishment, which included retrofitting the interiors to be in line with contemporary Grade-A office towers. After the makeover, the building now has a new curved, blue glass cladding; a new lobby; and a driveway. It was Plaza Ventures that sub-divided the offices on the third to 28th floors into 259 strata-titled units. The first two floors were carved up into 21 strata shops. GSH Corp sold some of the strata office units, and purchased the penthouse floors for its own use. DB2 purchased the entire portfolio of retail units on the first two levels of the building prior to the sale to Fullshare. The 27 office units that were released for sale recently are located on the fourth, fifth, ninth and 17th floors. According to Savills’ Yap, there are only 56 strata office units for sale within the building.
