This is such an amazing drawing of Yor, like Endo Sensei drew it so carefully and lovingly but also in the same frame we have Loid waving and he just looks like this.

Which is to say, Loid just looks so cute and smol, yes we see the dark circles but overall figure is devoid of any sharp or harsh lines that is supposed to be representative of the Twilight Persona. Here is he is simply being his true self cause we see [redacted] wave at his friends and smile the same way.

So Fiona’s imagination of Loid crying in Yor’s Boobs Arms is not that far away from the truth, cause he is just like that with Yor.

(Forever mad at the placing of the speech bubble because seeing Loid’s hand cradling Yor’s naked waist is a psychological need at this point)

Remember Nightfall spent so much time studying so many twilights, his personas and missions that she was able to accurately pinpoint Loid’s true emotions with concerns to his family.

So yeah, Nightfall is not delusional when it comes to how she pictures Loid in her head, she knows that as sharp and hardened as he is, he is also just as soft and gentle. She might not be able to bring out that side of twilight like Yor and Anya do but that’s doesn’t mean she can’t detect it.

Been thinking about Nightfall wanting to "awaken the heart buried within Twilight" and I'm like... how exactly is she planning on doing that? It doesn't look like she really understands Twilight, she only sees the idolized image of him that she's built in her mind.

Her only ambitions driving her to perfection (and, to her credit, she does actually achieve a great level of physical discipline that a spy needs to survive) are the ones of her ending up as Twilight's real wife and life partner. She doesn't seem to share any of his dreams, she doesn't even seem to appreciate a possible world where children are happy - which is Twilight's core motivation, so ingrained in him that he kept fighting for it even when he hadn't actively thought about it for a long time.

The reason Yor and Anya are the ones awakening his feelings is because they are way more connected to his ambitions and motivations. Anya reminds him of himself and how important it is to him to protect children's innocence and happiness. Yor has similar motivations, and he actually, canonically thinks of her as someone suitable to inherit the world he wants to create, and maybe I'm taking a bit of liberty here by saying he probably wishes he'd had someone like her to protect him when he was young and defenseless.

So, without even trying, just by being themselves, Yor and Anya connect with him and awaken all the emotions that have motivated him as a spy from the very start. Nightfall has literally dedicated her entire existence to becoming the perfect partner for Twilight, but in her effort to become perfect she has completely lost what actually matters to the man behind the Twilight spy persona. In fact, she may have actually ended up at the opposite side. She believes that after the war Twilight will want to reminisce over old times and tour old battlefields with her when we as the audience keep getting hints that he finds no pride or happiness in being a spy, other than having the chance to protect the world.

Nightfall is hard to relate to not only because she's mean and selfish. It's also because she has dedicated herself to a false, empty promise that was based on Twilight's fame. I'm guessing Twilight never shared his inner feelings and motivations that drove him to become a spy, so Nightfall has no idea how much of a sensitive person he really is, beneath all the masks he puts on. And she's doing all that in an effort to make him notice her, praise her, and eventually choose her as his romantic partner, but everything about it is hopeless.

In a way it's a very interesting way to present her character, as she's willingly becoming a Satellite Love Interest, and everything about her plan, from mistaking Twilight's motivations and personality, to treating Yor and Anya horribly, to reaching for a goal the audience knows is unachievable shows why you can't be like that in reality. I could even say it's a commentary and satire of Satellite Love Interests, making a brilliant example of how such characters can work if they're consciously written that way.

Huh going back on my posts I realized something

When Twilight sees Anya's bad midterm grades, he thinks "I should work harder to get her to get better grades next time. But at least she didn't fail so that's a win for her". He considered her bad grades as his fault, but her not failing as her win.

When Nightfall sees Yor bring milk for Loid's coffee, she thinks "You don't even know Senpai drinks his coffee black, you're useless," but when she sees him put milk in it, she thinks "Of course! He pretends to like milk with his coffee as part of his Loid Forger persona! I love you!" She considered the milk offer as Yor's mistake, but Loid's acceptance of it as Twilight's smart move.

Do you see it? Do you see how differently they see the distance between "Twilight" and "everyone else"? Twilight blames himself and praises everyone else, while Nightfall blames everyone else and praises Twilight.

Due to her obsession, Nightfall resorts to incorrect assumptions about him (thinking that the milk is for cover instead of his stomach issues) and rude behaviour towards everyone else (in comparison to Twilight internally praising Anya for managing not to fail) - which also comes from incorrect assumptions; in episode three, Yor offers to make coffee for Loid, and Loid asks for black coffee, so she knew that at first he was drinking black, and only later on decided to add milk; she noticed both his original preference and the change in it. Nightfall doesn't know that, and her rude nature makes her immediately assume that Yor doesn't notice, doesn't know, and doesn't care as much as Nightfall does.

And truly, that is what makes her incompatible with him. She idolizes him instead of seeing him clearly and recognizing his weaknesses (unless she can use those to promote her own strength and value), and is rude to everyone else, something that Twilight himself is averse to; Nightfall considers Twilight's dream simply being one of peace, when in reality it's one of a peaceful world where children don't need to cry - and this world cannot be achieved with people as rude (and as prone to discipline via physical violence) as Nightfall.

She is another case of "everyone is a hero in their own story". She doesn't see anything she does as wrong; the worst thing she'll think of herself is that she's inadequate in something, but that will only spite her to work to become better. It would be a great state of mind to be in, if it weren't for her selfishness - and truly, that's where her obsession comes from; if she was a little more empathetic and a little more understanding, she would not only see Twilight's flaws and weaknesses as what they are, she would also see that Twilight doesn't reciprocate her feelings and is misunderstanding the reasons behind her actions as ambition instead of affection.

She may be in love with him, but it's a selfish, obsessive, blind kind of love. She doesn't see the man, she sees the idol she has created from what she knows about him, and she thinks she is the only one reserved to have him; no matter what he thinks.

The worst part of Nightfall's obsession with Twilight and taking over as the Forger Wife is that for a mission that revolves entirely around having a child, her plan to deal with Anya is to heavily abuse her into submission.

Twilight has had struggles with parenthood himself, but he's never actively mistreated or worked Anya to the bone, because even back when he was more open about his disdain for the mission he acknowledged she's just a child that needs to be nurtured for success to be possible. Meanwhile Nightfall can't even dig up that kind of compassion to accurately do the mission because she genuinely doesn't seem to think of Anya as a person, just as a tool that comes with the role she wants to be in.
