here’s the thing.
if you’re one of the people celebrating our flag means death’s cancellation for whatever reason right now, i need you to realize that this is just a sign that whatever you love is next.
and i’m not saying that out of spite. having your favourite show cancelled is awful, i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. but if our little-gay-pirate-show-that-could can’t get its third and final season, the future of queer media is extremely grim.
ofmd was the definition of a sleeper hit. hbo max had no faith in it when the first season came out. it gained popularity purely through word-of-mouth. but it became one of max’s biggest shows, and it’s since been marketed as their flagship series.
it was the #1 most in-demand series in the world for 8 weeks (7 of those weeks consecutively). it’s currently in the 99.7th percentile of the comedy genre, meaning it’s in higher demand than 99.7% of all comedy series in the u.s. it has a 94% audience and critics score on rotten tomatoes. it’s the most in-demand hbo original series even above euphoria, succession, and the last of us.
it was nominated for 16 awards for the first season alone, including a GLAAD award and a peabody award. the second season was just nominated for an art directors guild award, which it was previously nominated for and won in the same category for season one.
besides awards, ofmd is critically-acclaimed and praised for its representation (including a cast of majority queer, bipoc, and disabled characters) and themes of anti-colonialism, challenging gender norms/toxic masculinity, and self-discovery/acceptance. it also has a diverse team of directors and writers consisting of several bipoc, women, and queer/trans/non-binary people.
on top of all of this, the plan for the show all along was only ever for three seasons. david jenkins only wanted three seasons for the full romcom structure to tell ed and stede’s story. that’s it. nothing more.
this isn’t an attempt to make you care about the show. but ofmd’s cancellation isn’t just a loss for the fanbase and the cast/crew. it’s a sign that it does not matter how successful or profitable shows highlighting lgbtq+ (or otherwise inclusive) narratives are or how many big names are involved. ofmd would not have been cancelled if it were a straight romcom. they would’ve magically found the budget. but corporate greed doesn’t care about us. they have no respect for queer people or queer media. and in the age of streaming, it’s only a matter of time until we lose all of it.

Incoming unpopular opinion. Did it not occur to anyone that Filoni, much like Taika in marvel, just doesnt have the respect for the majority of the characters of Star Wars that - say- Favreau with IronMan or others have? Who the hell treats the Mandalorians like he has? Why the hell were either of them allowed to treat Luke like that? 😤 Who wouldn't understand & acknowledge that there's a SAG and WGA strike ongoing and then refuse to be on the front lines / voicing support? They're both writers & directors/producers. And Favreau (like a certain New Zealander) is also an actor. Plus wtf 🙃 was with Kennedy & Filoni being allowed say on Mando s3?
First off, the Nightsisters were never said to be Dark Side Witches except by maybe Dooku and Palpatine. Look where that motivation is coming from. Second, the Zabrak aren't from Dathomir. They're from Iridonia. And they don't always have red/orange skin. That's kind of specific to the *subspecies* that developed on Dathomir. The Nightsisters are literally referred to as 'dathomiri witches'. Third, they're not using the Force. Did 😒 no one see any clips of (or play) Fallen Order or Survivor? Merrin is thought to be one of the very last of her kind. She literally explains to Cal that their Magic isn't the Force.
That leads me to my fourth and fifth points. No4: Filoni is just making shit up at this point, i would hope reviewers would understand this. Why would there be something beyond the 'unknown regions'? This isn't some dinky galaxy we're playing in with Star Wars. Have you SEEN the Star Map for the number of worlds just in the Outer Rim? There are hundreds of solar systems and nebulae and solar clouds and tunnels (wormholes). And he wants you to think that there's a whole new set of worlds beyond 'unknown space'. 🤣😅 I explained about the Dathomiri already but lets use an actual Dark Force God. In Legends, the eldritch horror Abeloth lurks in a cluster of black holes called The Maw. Its within the edges of the Outer Rim - Inside the known universe of Star Wars. There's hardly anything *known* about the areas outside the Outer Rim; its why the name is Wild Space & the *Unknown* Regions. JFC.
After what has been written about beloved characters in the sequels, in Mando, and even with Boba not having starring roles in his own series, I find it highly insulting as a fan that yall just take this dummy's word that this is gospel. Like holy shit, do some basic research TOR before raving about how great ep 6 was for canon.
Canon so far has been dogshit. S3 of Mandalorian, the cliffhangers of both Boba Fett & Kenobi, the shit writing... The only great thing out of Disney post lucasfilm buy is Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian and getting to see Morrison as Boba. --> 🫠😵 I find it super insulting that Disney would retcon *their own canon* from games/books/earlier shows to allow Elspeth and the 'Great Mothers' to have the Force. To say that this 'never before known planet' is some special jedi place. To hint that Thrawn might be the main antagonist when no one can say that with the strike or books that are *already out*. Icould keep going but yall bore me. Ewww.

4. Favorite villain and why?
You're gonna laugh at me and probably judge me, lmao but I don't care. It's actually the Mandarin in IM3. I think I explain it a while back and why IM3 to this day is still in my MCU top five as opposed to the first movie. Okay first of all, I don't think many people catch the brilliance behind the Mandarin. I grew up post 9/11 era as a Muslim kid and trust me I know what fear mongering is and what drives people off the wall. Anyway -- before this gets too long. Basically, IM3 showed us the reality of what the mass public believes and is susceptible to. The fact that it was a white capitalist's who utilized a brown man struggling with addiction and used his vices to create this illusion of terrorism is a very real mirror into our society and what the US military does with people of color. So the movie being so open about it was a first for me and I fucking love that. If the Mandarin was anything like the comics, I wouldn't have enjoyed it because it would've been racist bullshit. Say all you want about the Iron Man movies but the one thing they always had right was that a white capitalist was always the villain. 14. Favorite director.
Not the Russos or Joss Wheadon. I think hands down Taika Waititi is my favorite because he lit up Thor and introduced us to Valkyrie and gave us a Loki that I fell in love with. Characterization was :chefskiss:
17. Favorite Captain America Suit.
I'm bias, it's Sam's suit. That's the only right answer. And steve's dirty ass hobo suit in iw
24. Favorite non-marvel movie/show that features at least one of the marvel actors?
Uhm, damn. IDK I usually watch their movies, so IDK anything about shows. I really only watched Defending Jacob for Chris (and it wasn't that great and very predictable) and I watched Altered Carbon for Mackie. IDK I wouldn't say I have favorites? I'll just watch anything that has Mackie or Chris in it. I saw SOLOs a couple of weeks ago (only the Mackie ep) and it was great!
