1. Qrow can be... possessive about Tai. There are some days he just doesn’t want to share his golden boy, though he’s trying to work on it. Thankfully, James has been mostly accommodating with it.

2. If all three of them are together, Qrow likes to be in the middle. At the very least he has to be next to Tai at all times, whether he’s in the middle or Tai is. 

3. Despite all the above, Qrow really does love James. He just... can’t always handle sharing or being away from Tai. Tai is ultimately the most important person to him, no matter what.

[ So, my James, specifically, always wanted a family when he was younger. However, he can’t have any kids of his own biologically due to physical trauma, and to be honest, he’s become painfully aware over the years of the fact that raising children just isn’t really a very good idea for him, with his mental health, or even really all that possible, considering his job. With the metal half (especially in Atlas’ climate), he’s very wary of holding babies and little, little ones. He wouldn’t hold babies for a long time after his incident. He was very nervous about it. In some timelines, due to a friendship with the Schnee family, the first baby he held after his incident was Winter -- I’ve also written James as the Schneeblings’ godfather.

He still loves kids regardless, and in the taironqrow verses, he absolutely loves having stepdaughters and later stepgrandkids. In mine and Melty’s pre-series ironqrow verses, and in any timeline I write where he’s the Schneeblings’ godfather, he’s more than happy to be an uncle, at least. In the pre-series ironqrow verses, especially, Ruby and Yang may or may not have been a little extra spoiled. He’s happy to babysit, take the kids out to do things like going to the park or going shopping for school supplies/clothes, go to sports games, stuff like that.

He literally cannot say no to a baby handing him a pretend phone or a little kid handing him an empty tea cup. That pretend phone call? The most important call he’s ever taken in his life, all other conversations with adults come to a screeching halt until the call is over. Sorry, he can’t answer your question right now, he’s on the phone. That pretend tea? Best tea he’s ever tasted. 10/10, this tea is fantastic. His nieces need someone to be an ursa while they’re playing huntresses? And they require ursa noises? Hell yeah, count him in. He knows what that sounds like, he can do that. Most dramatic fake death ever when they finally defeat the big scary ursa with couch cushions and a blanket, wow they’re the best huntresses in Remnant. He would see a little kid dressed as a princess and bow politely to them.

Parents like Jacques, who are so toxic and even narcissistic that you question why they bothered having kids in the first place, make him so unbelievably angry. He cannot understand people who just have kids for the sheer ability to be able to say that they have them. And what pisses him off about Jacques Schnee specifically is just how two-faced he could be about his kids: he’s witnessed Jacques putting up this loving father act because he was in public, or because there were cameras, and then immediately hand off whatever baby he was holding in order to do something “more important” the second he was able to do so.

Overall, James can’t stand parents who treat their children like possessions or trophies and not like tiny individuals. He can’t understand why would you bring a child into the world just to neglect them. And this is 110% a coping mechanism of mine, I think, because I’ve asked this same question about someone I knew for nineteen years of my life: why would you have children if you don’t even like them, or don’t want to do the things that come with having children. ]

TAIQROW.

I. Qrow long before telling Tai he had feelings for him would allude to it. Incredibly clearly. Tai never learned to take a hint. II. Qrow keeps a dumb looking plushie of a yellow dragon ( general reference ) that was supposed to be for Yang when she was little, but he ended up keeping it and getting her something different. It’s named Sunny and lives at Qrow’s apartment. He keeps it because it reminds him of Tai but won’t admit it. III. If asked what his favorite food is, he really can’t pinpoint it exactly, but his mind always drifts to Tai’s cooking.

IRONQROW.

I. Qrow has been attracted to James for a very long time; honestly it was instant upon seeing him. Qrow thinks he’s gorgeous. Seeing him post-airship crash after Beacon? Really tough for his self control. II. Qrow really likes drinking with James. Qrow always gets fucking hammered while James never even gets past tipsy but it’s a small thing that makes him happy; he likes seeing James less uptight. III. Qrow doesn’t like Atlas but loves the weather and the technology, so if James wants him to come visit, he’ll complain, but secretly love it.

TAIRONQROW.

I. James attempts to eat healthy, but whenever he visits Patch, Tai makes sweets he knows James likes. Qrow ends up eating about half of them but James can’t say no. II. James and Qrow argue the most frequently of the three, but it never gets really intense. One might snap a little at the other and there’ll be a bit of a tense silence, but if Tai doesn’t reign them both in, they generally go back to normal within minutes. III. Qrow sleeps in between Tai and James; they’re both very warm. If they both went to bed before him he will shove his way in between them.

Thot-B-Gone

Because I’m poor and cannot draw, I’m writing gift fics for my friends this holiday season!

Next up is @falcecru / @kkotcin. You put up with way more of my bullshit than I think anyone gives you credit for, and honestly, I wish I could’ve come up with something better than this.

He'd faced all manner of villain and malicious beast in all his years in the field, from minor inconveniences like beowolves to the personification of evil itself. Even a twin sister who not only equally matched him in power, but had expressed a desire to see him dead.

But Qrow Branwen's mortal enemy nowadays was a cheap spray bottle full of water.

It was actually several bottles, all hidden in locations around the house that made it almost comical when one appeared. All of them with the same nine letters written neatly on the front of them in his elder stepdaughter's handwriting.

"Thot-B-Gone."

He and Taiyang had never quite left the honeymoon phase of their relationship, a fact which had only become more true as James Ironwood had been introduced into their love life. But James and Tai were normally moderately quiet about any friskiness that overtook them.

Qrow was not.

He was also the loudest of the three, and the one most likely to be overheard by any of the kids. Penny, when she came to visit with James, was more curious and concerned. Ruby, who they'd long suspected had no interest in sex, and Yang, who was one of the most sex-positive people Qrow had ever encountered, found some of it cute, more of it annoying.

More than once, Qrow had found himself being absolutely roasted by Tai's daughters at the breakfast table. And he dealt with comments left and right if he openly started acting needy toward his husband or their partner. Yang, it seemed, had become as tired of this second occurrence as her stepfather, but not in the same way. She had gotten tired of having to make clever comments.

And so, the Thot-B-Gone was born.

The first incarnation of it was the fruity body spray that Yang carried almost everywhere. The slightly more adult version of the one Ruby had gotten her back when she'd started Signal. She'd wander up to him and spray him point-blank in the side of the head: she wasn't cruel enough to spray him directly in the face. She'd gotten tired, presumably, of wasting body spray every time she spied Qrow with his arms around his husband. And had wanted a cheaper way to keep the practice going. Hence, spray bottles.

But he'd outsmarted her this time. He'd collected the bottles hidden around the living room hours ago, and he'd been slowly but surely draping himself across both of his partners on the couch, watching Yang's jaw clench until he was sure he'd heard teeth cracking. It was quite amusing, really.

Little did Qrow know, however, that he was about to have his day lit up.

All at once, Yang, Penny, and Ruby were on their feet, and Qrow barely had time to let out a confused, panicked squawk before three very full glasses of ice water were being dumped over his head, catching Tai, who yelped in surprise, and James, who silently scrambled backward, in the splash zone.

"Girls!"

"Hey!"

Qrow immediately hopped up, looking not unlike an angry cat as he shook the water off as much as he could. James excused himself, disappearing upstairs, presumably to change sweaters. Poor Tai, however, merely remained in place on the couch, staring at Yang for an explanation.

"Sorry, Dad," Yang grinned sheepishly. "But Qrow was looking kinda... thirsty."

Long, specific answer:

Wizard: “As for you, my galvanized friend: you want a heart? You don’t know how lucky you are not to have one. Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.”

Tin Man: “But I still want one.”

This is obviously to do with James’ obvious and confirmed allusion to the Tin Man, but mine takes it a couple steps further. Qrow has previously made at least one statement in canon calling into question (probably not literally) whether James “actually has a heart.” This is obviously just Qrow criticizing James, not actually questioning the existence of the actual organ.

My James, specifically, has an artificial heart. It’s noted in several places on his page, and I bring it up in threads a lot. And his heart is the only one of all his artificial parts that is guaranteed to continue functioning.
