I need to be stopped actually because now I have a 6x6 table listing why/why not each of my screwdrivers fits each of my graham fics. And based on it each fic now has its own screwdriver assigned. This is what I did instead of writing. It's almost 2 am. I need to be Stopped.

Since I have my spreadsheet on them and 2023 is basically over (at least in my timezone), I figured I'd share some stats here and (if I don't forget) compare in a year!

There are currently 51 fics in the Graham Folger character tag

There are 9 more that come up if you look him up on Ao3 in general, bringing the number up to 60!

16 of those were last updated this year! More than 1/4th of the fics total!

The total number of words in those 60 fics is: 421 015! That's an Impressive amount of words to write about a guy who gets mentioned just 3 times in the entire podcast! And I am shaking hands with all my fellow writers for this one :D

Assigning my screwdrivers to each of my Graham Folger fics

Keep in mind, most of them are tiny screwdrivers that are a part of a multi-tool, but! If it works as a screwdriver, it's a screwdriver! I will also be providing explanations, of course! But, since it's 5 screwdrivers + a bonus, this will be long, so! Under the cut it goes!

AUGHH Tumblr posted the wip instead of the finished post. Horrible. THIS is the final version

1) Impossible Tastes and Endless Hallways

My emotional support flathead! I've had it for ages, I've used it to fix countless things, and it also functions as a stim toy if you're stubborn enough about it! AND it genuinely used to make me feel safe :] I'm assigning it to the 1st ever Spiral Graham fic I wrote because I LOVE that AU and I've also had it for ages and I have like. 10+ AUs OF the AU in my head, but they all follow the events of the 1st fic, so! It's also usable for many things! And also I love it so much I want to bite it :]

2) The World Isn't Ours (but we'll manage)

This one is a part of a multi-tool that I got surprisingly cheap, but it's very reliable! It doesn't wiggle, it's very sturdy, and I've taken it with me on countless trips and such when I need something small but good. It wasn't my first multi-tool, but it was much better than the previous ones, too! With like 10 more tools in it! So, I think it fits this fic because it's also not the 1st one in the AU, but in this one Graham overcomes some of the things he struggled with in the previous ones and overall grew as a person (/avatar (?)), too! AND he finally sees other places than Zemlya Sannikova in this fic, just like the screwdriver has seen many places :]

3) The One You Could Never Forget (you did)

This is a flathead from a multi-tool! Which is unusual because I usually only see them with Philips endings? Regardless, this whole multi-tool was gifted to me and it is Incredibly good quality. I mean like, it's super sturdy and will survive many many years... but then again, I'm honestly a bit scared to use it just because of how good it is. I think that matches the fic - Graham is given back kind of like a gift, and everything that follows is a bit,, unusual, I'd say, but also I have so many plans for this fic, so many more chapters planned... I'm kinda scared to work on it?? Oops?? BUT that just makes it fit that way, too!

4) (Un)familiar Faces

This one is also a part of a multi-tool, what a surprise! The multi-tool itself has my name on the left and a text in Polish on the right, which translates to "The king of the forest". But It Has My Name On It. Considering how the first chapter and a half of this fic deals with Graham and Sasha not remembering their names/who they are, and then try to remind other people of that as well, and how much comfort stems from just... knowing themselves? I feel like this one is very fitting :]

5) If We Get Through One More Night

This one is a very small multi-tool that I was given by my grandpa :] The screwdriver part is very unstable, it wiggles around, but it still works and in spite of everything, it prevails! And this fic was much shorter compared to my other ones, and written based on a prompt a friend gave me, which,, kind of makes it a gift as well? And I feel like the plot of the fic itself (Graham survives Just Barely, but finds himself in an environment in which he can be okay again) fits how the handle threatens to break but never does

And now a bonus!

This isn't exactly a screwdriver, it's a bottle opener, BUT its end "can be used as a screwdriver in extreme situations" and the bumpy surface on top (xx side in the image) is nice to rub when I'm nervous. So, comforting AND has a skull!

So, this is a bonus "screwdriver" to any of my fics that feature DeathNote :]

Alright, I need to scream about mag 003 for a bit or else I'll literally explode so!! Two things I can't get out of my head about the episode!! I'm putting them under the cut for everyone else's sake-

So FIRST OF ALL!! There was a struggle I think. In Graham's flat. After Amy watched the NotThem climb in, she remarks she could see some "vague movements inside", which... sure, could just be the NotThem looking around for its victim but?? After the lights came on, Graham's passport was on the floor?? It wasn't mentioned before (and Why would it be there in the 1st place??) and given Graham's state at that point, I wouldn't be surprised if he was keeping it on him/near him all the time.

So there was a struggle!! He tried to run or fight or whatever, he tried to do something!! Whatever it was, it lasted long enough for him to drop that passport and this fact will never stop haunting me. There was a pointless struggle that must've been long enough for him to realize how fucked he was before dying. Head in hands. When will the horrors end.

And then the next thing?? The way Amy remembers Graham is heartbreaking on its own. It's all just so?? She watched him. She watched him and that's how she got most of her information. She knew his habits, details such as his Favorite Pizza (!!!!), all without him knowing she knew!! And then the things he did willingly share?? "Dull". She called his conversation about his interests/life/etc DULL!! Those were the things about himself he actually considered worth sharing!! But no, she'd rather remember him "freaking out over an ice cream truck once".

Her image of Graham was so horribly wrapped,, That wasn't the same person he saw himself as, that was just the "weird, off-putting guy living across the street who ate a notebook once"!! Amy even admitted that she didn't want to speak to him after she started watching him because she "didn't think she could carry a conversation after everything she saw"!! And it's just??

That's all that's left of him. That wrapped image he probably wouldn't recognize himself in if he was given the chance. All he's remembered by are the weird things he did when he thought he was alone, a horrible mockery of someone who was so much more than that!! And the things Amy didn't see? No one will ever know. What he did when he left his flat "often enough", how he was when she took a "break" in watching him near the end, what went through his head on the night he was taken? How was he around other people?? What were his other relationships like??? What was he like before all this started????? We'll never know because Amy never knew!! So much of him is just straight-up gone, as though it was never real in the first place--

Then again, that's kind of the thing with all of NotThem's victims, isn't it? A guy remembered only by the cousin who hadn't seen him in ages. A mother remembered by the daughter who she had a very rocky relationship with. Hell, even Sasha being remembered by someone she only met once instead of any of her friends! All those people had lives before they were taken, and all of them are now forever forgotten because those meant to remember never knew in the first place.

,,,,yeah. So uh. As you can see I have feelings about mag 003.

The 2nd fic for [this] series! The Graham Folger Lives and Therefore Nothing Bad Ever Happens AU itself! This fic is already in the works and uhhh I'd say 1/3rd done?? I've been. Procrastinating a bit. But lately I've been working on it more!

Graham gets given back AU

More of [this] fic I recently started! The plot so far is, Oliver encounters Nikola, who offers to give him Graham back. He accepts, and... well. Now Graham is back and Majorly Confused At Best.

Overpowered Archives AU

Soo I've not updated [this] fic in months but I Swear I'm still working on it. Basically, it's an Archivist Gerry AU with Joshua Gillespie, Sebastian Skinner, and Robin Lennox as the assistants. As you can imagine, that group Is quite overpowered.

Eye Graham AU

I literally only talked about it [here] once ages ago but I started writing it out of boredom and well. Now it's a thing! It's another "Graham Folger Lives" AU, except this time the Beholding helps him to survive the events of mag 003 and well... one thing leads to another, until he becomes an Archival Assistant!

Michael and Mike both live AU

This is just a quick canon-divergence fic where Michael interferes with the events of mag 91 and in turn, Mike interferes with the events of mag 101! They both end up alive (mostly) and okay (mostly)!

I have. A fic. That I have not been updating for a while. Which I want to fix. And I have the next chapter nearly ready. BUT I also have a one shot that is basically done. Both WILL go out there eventually but.

Oh also I wrote the one shot based off of a prompt I got from a friend and that was super fun, so if you have any ideas (preferably ones that include Graham) feel free to drop them in the replies/my inbox/etc and I Might get to them at some point too :D

So, since @gristlebloom-orchid asked, I DO have a Flesh!Graham AU and I finally sat down to put my thoughts about it into something comprehensive, and then into words! So, I figured I might as well make a post about it! Actually this is my 2nd attempt at making it because apparently version 1 was like 2 times too long for a Tumblr post or something?? Messed up :/

Warning for Flesh-typical content, mostly of the dysmorphic kind, along with some Drastic measures to "fix" that

So, the entire AU starts with one simple change - the NotThem doesn't manage to kill Graham when it attacks him. He survives by pure chance, and doesn't come out of the encounter unscathed, but no matter how much blood it spilled, at least he made it out alive!

Except, the whole thing really messes with the way he sees himself. He can barely recognize his own reflection, so many little things about it seem wrong, things he doesn't even know words/names for, but they're all just wrong wrong wrong that's not him!!

The NotThem gets a good meal out of him just... feeling like a Stranger in his own skin, so instead of finishing the job, it hangs around, sometimes pretend-attacks him just so that he locks himself in the bathroom and has nothing to do but stare in the mirror, and it's enjoying this "arrangement" very much!

It doesn't take Graham too long to pick up on the pattern. A few weeks in, he locks himself in the bathroom with nothing but a notebook on him, and ends up trying to write down what exactly bothers him in the reflection.

No matter how hard he tries, the descriptions aren't detailed enough. His face isn't "wrong", it's his eyes and nose and mouth and skin and- no, no, that's still too broad. His eye color seems too dark, and his eyelids are folded differently, and they seem too far apart, and-

The NotThem leaves him alone, satisfied enough, much faster than usual. This is the point where a realization strikes him, and all of his previous thought process gets off-track for a Stranger victim. Because you see, from his perspective, all what he knows is:

There is something herding him around, and he keeps falling for it's tricks. It torments him, and then leaves, seemingly content enough with his fear. Seemingly... fed by it. On top of that, he's barely himself through his own eyes, so to anyone else he's surely unrecognizable, just one slip up away from losing his self entirely, and is he still a person at that point? Is he a person at this point??

He doesn't feel that far off from an animal serving its purpose up until it will get slaughtered. With this one simple trick (overthinking), he has managed to change his fear of the Stranger into a fear of the Flesh! The NotThem hates him!

Does he react impulsively to this realization? Yeah, probably, since his response is to up and leave his flat instantly, only grabbing a few necessities along the way and with not intentions of coming back

He wanders for a while, feeling horrible and shuddering at each reflective surface he passes by because there is something wrong with his body, and it makes his skin crawl. Before he knows it, he's already desperate enough that he'd do just about anything to fix it

He feels he can't really trust anyone to try and fix all those little things without messing them up further, so that's off the table. He'll have to fix them on his own, with his bare hands if he has to. Then again, there's no telling if he won't mess himself up more by trying to fix things!

He decides he needs to get some practice. And some tools. And sure, he's been walking around for a while now, but it doesn't take him all that long to come across the nearest butcher store, and it's open! Just... strangely quiet. Up until,,, oh oops! uh oh!

Yeah, he kind of. Happened to walk into Jared Hopworth's Butcher Store? While the man is in the middle of disposing of a guy for the mafia? And those people were quite clear, no witnesses are allowed to leave, so... he's just stuck here now.

He's scared at first, as one would be upon walking in on a Huge guy torturing some other guy, but then... then he sees the way Jared pulls bones from the man, how he re-shapes them...

If he's going to die here, he might as well ask for help with a few of his own issues. For a start, he's pretty sure his right forearm doesn't look quite right because the bone should be a bit more squashed, and at a different angle, but that's apparently fixable???

Jared's not used to people wanting to be reshaped (this is like early-mid 2006, 6 years before the gym statement takes place, give him time), but he complies and is even more surprised by the honest positive reaction.

He asks if Graham needs help with anything else in his body, and Graham just pulls out his notebook. He knows that much fixing won't be free, but now at least one of his limbs looks his own again, he can't possibly stop now?? Not to mention, some of the bits are easier to replace or add to rather than re-shape, so... if he ends up having to lead a few people to their doom... well. So be it.

With every little change, he becomes more himself, but at the same time, strays further and further from who he used to be. And when he's finally satisfied with his results? He might just keep trying to bring more people to the butcher shop out of habit. :]

That's about it for the story I have properly planned. I do, however, have the idea that once Jared moves on to owning that gym of his, Graham will be Very helpful in finding future customers! All he has to do is approach people and kindly point out the few things he can just see are wrong about them, and then tell them he knows a place where they can fix those!

I'm not sure how/if he'll get involved with the main archives crew - maybe when Jane Prentiss traps Martin in his own home, he reaches a few similar conclusions that Graham did and that draws him in? Maybe he's been looking for the NotThem in case it slips up and can't finish the job properly again, which leads him to the institute? Maybe he happens to be one of the people Jon contacts all the way in season 3, since he managed to escape the Stranger's grasp and that might be useful? Who knows! I certainly don't, not yet!

Also I'm open to feedback on this AU since I don't cover Flesh much in my AUs and writing, so I feel a bit out of my depth? But I figured the body dysmorphia aspect of it could fit the mess I like to make of -selfs and identities when the NotThem is involved and I'm feeling a bit silly :] but I tried not to abandon the more animistic aspects of it? But again if that just Doesn't Work as well as I was hoping it would, like I said I am open to feedback!

Guess who is slowly going through MAG 003 again and is Having Thoughts.

That moment when "something" pushes Amy into the street and the next thing she remembers is "A panicky Graham on the phone with an ambulance"? Man.

Is he panicked because she's out cold and bleeding, or is he panicked because obviously this wouldn't have happened on its own, obviously something caused it. Does he think that "whatever he was looking out for in the bus" did this? Does he think it's his fault, because he was here with her and now she's hurt? It is his fault, in a way, isn't it?

Does he think that now that she's out, he's next? Why is he still here, then? Why isn't he running? Is it because it's pointless, because if he's done for either way he might as well try to call for help? Is it because he thinks not being all alone will save either of them? Maybe it did. Maybe he would've been replaced that night, if he was alone, if he ran. Maybe not being alone would've kept saving him, if not for the fact that he was alone.

And then, when he lets her recover in his flat, is it just that, or is he trying not to be alone? Is he trying to not let her be alone? When she decides to leave and he says it's not been long enough, is it really just about the recovery? Or is he worried it's not been long enough since something made her fall, that it's still here, that it's not safe to be alone yet.

Does any of this make any sense or am I just Saying Words?
