It was on this day in 1745 that a small gray lamb was born to a ewe on a hillside some miles from the town of Gant. This is of no significance to anyone but the lamb and the ewe and the shepherd, but history is made no less of small things that go on around the edges than it is of kings and battles and heresies.

Redacted: As long as I keep licking these horrible inedible fruits, I'll be safe from the mind control. Wow, there's a phrase I didn't expect to have to utter twice in one lifetime.
The Narrator: I beg your pardon?
Redacted: College was wild.

Listening to the Hidden Almanac again and I'm so sad it's all done if only because I would love to hear Reverend Mord's "In the garden..." segment about that fungus in What Moves The Dead.

Drom, in her bunker (feat. a jar of olives and a conversation).
Having spent the last week or so (very) late and very alone in the lab, and listening to the Hidden Almanac, I remembered that I wrote a fic for it! Four years ago-I had just finished up my bachelors. Now I'm almost at the end of my graduate degree, and I find myself coming back to the same podcasts...it is still just as soothing and entrancing as ever!

hello hello
Haven't posted here in, uh, forever, but I have a plan. Sorta. Mostly just documenting the stuff I've been playing/reading/listening to because why the hell not. Also made an excel sheet for this because I'm crazy and bored and we'll see how long this lasts for.
Just finished listening to all of The Hidden Almanac, which was amazing and I loved every bit of it. Highly recommend it, and while it looks daunting at first (and okay, it kind of is), each episode is about 5 minutes long. Granted, the entire show lasted 6 years and posted 3 times a week, so it's a lot to get through. May have taken me a few months, haha. But it's so charming and I really could have just kept listening on and on about Mord and Drom's (and George's!) adventures.

i know it's just the time of day making everything much funnier but you really don't get this shit anywhere else. not even night vale with all its wackiness but i think it has to do with cecil being just as weird/involved/believing as the rest of the town whereas mord just flatly calls out (most) weirdass bullshit for what it is. he's not a ghost skeptic yknow but he is a ghost practical if that makes sense. ANYWAY the exchange "anyway, all turkeys look the same" with drom's *immediate* muttered "bigot" made me crack up.

time for another dump of old art, The Hidden Almanac style.
The Madonna of the Leaves, Reverend Mord's usual way of ending the show, and two covers for some of Pastor Drom's, uh, erotic self-help novels, which almost certainly need the mature label.

#Station23 - Jan 2 - The Arboretum
The "top" level of the main hull is a single enormous room under a transparent dome. It is filled with plants--grasses, shrubs, and trees from dozens of planets near and far, including some that are otherwise unknown to Federation science. The plants are also habitat for a variety of small animals, mostly things a human would identify as a "bird" or "insect".
The entire system is carefully kept in equilibrium through the tireless efforts of the groundskeeper, a strange little being of unknown species who gives their name as "Volle". Volle looks like a one-meter plague doctor, but it is unknown how much of their appearance is costume versus anatomy. Volle doesn't generally interact with visitors, unless they are damaging a plant, harassing an animal, or about to get too close to something that won't interact well with their biology. (How Volle knows, even when the medical division doesn't, in unknown. But Volle has not been observed to be wrong so far.)
Tumblr media
The terrain of the Arboretum is gentle rolling hills, with paths and benches of what appears to be natural stone (again from dozens of worlds--some with exotic fossils included). The only obvious construction to be found, aside form the center where the station's central column passes through toward Ops, is the Steer and Span (see Jan 3).
