Hi Shima! You have a lot of Pokemon content on your page and I’m sorta curious about the like, world of Pokemon, so would you have any recommendations on what like game I should start with or what I should watch first? Thanks!

!!! YOOOOO OKAY I GOTCHU ANON. Buckle up bc my 20 years of being a Pokemon fan is about to kick in

As for where to start with the games--this is all really depending on how your own personal playstyle! Do you like games that are more easy going and light on plot? Or do you like ones with heavy amounts of story? Or do you prefer games that are a perfect blend of the two? Pokemon's got a mixed bag of all of the above so you really can't go wrong

If you're into that really nostalgia feel I'd recommend starting out with the first Pokemon game I ever played as a kid, which was Pokemon Emerald! You can actually play this for free by downloading a Gameboy Advance emulator and the Emerald ROM. I have a lot of fond memories of Emerald and it's still one of my favorite games to date. I actually even prefer Emerald over its remakes (Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire) bc it just doesn't quite hit the same lol. I think even without having played Emerald as a kid it'll just spark that nostalgic feeling? It's that kind of game, at least to me :")

Going off of that if you REALLY want to hit nostalgia central and start where it all began, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen is also a good game to start out with. It's a remake of Pokemon Red/Blue, which were the first ever Pokemon games that were made. Personally I'm not a super huge Gen 1 fan bc I feel like it's been WAY overdone at this point (it's had two remakes already) but if you've never played a Pokemon game again it's definitely a good starting point. It's barely got any plot so it's really a game you can just dive into and enjoy without focusing too hard on the story. AND as an added bonus, Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver is the direct sequel to Gen 1 (and a remake of the original Gold/Silver/Crystal) so I'd definitely play that one as well, it's lots of fun!

Of course I will also recommend Pokemon Black/White and Black 2/White 2, which is generation 5 and my FAVORITE mainline Pokemon games of all time. BW released right before the transition to the 3D games so it still has sprite art. It's a GORGEOUS game honestly and I think it's really well balanced with story VS gameplay. It's got great characters and fantastic design elements (with everything honestly like the Pokemon designs are great, the character designs are great, the city/town designs are great, etc) and the most KICKASS soundtrack ever (looking at you Driftveil City AKA Toothless dancing meme music). I could go on and on and on about Gen 5 for hours lmao I really hold it near and dear to my heart. Also it's one of the very few games that actually has a sequel which I LOVE. BW2 takes place two years after BW and I love the story and character progression 🥰

Shouting out Pokemon Platinum as well, I know it's a huge fan favorite and honestly I also love it very much!! Platinum came out before BW did so it's got that early DS era feel to it. It's got a decent plot and classic fun gameplay elements. Also Pokemon Legends Arceus which ties directly into Platinum as its prequel (but you should play Platinum first? I know it's confusing lol). PLA is SUPER fucking fun, it's got a completely different gameplay style and mechanic than regular Pokemon games, and it ties in with Platinum so well.

And to my last few recommendations -

Pokemon Sun and Moon!! There's mixed feelings about this one from a lot of people but it's one of my personal favorites...I think people dislike that it's so plot heavy, there's a LOT of dialogue even when starting the game so if you're not into that I wouldn't go with SM. But I LOVE games that are heavy with plot and SM just does it so well. The characterization is really well done and I love watching Lillie go through her development arc 🤧 But yeah it's SM NOT Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon which are like. The same games but Worse. USUM took SM's plot and stomped all over it so I would not go for those lol

And, of courseeee. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet! These are the most recent mainline games to release and ohhh my god. Is the game laggy and bugged out as hell? Yes. Is it also fucking FANTASTIC and has made me cry multiple times? ALSO yes. If you don't mind occasional shitty graphics then please please PLEASE play SV. The open world aspect is a ton of fun, the new Pokemon designs are so charming, the characters are wonderful, and the STORY??? The plot literally blew my socks off the first time I played it. SV endgame you will always be the king of my heart. It's definitely heavier than any previous Pokemon game and it had me reeling for DAYS after. The story is just. So so so good. And we get a continuation of the story kicking ass in the DLC. I love SV to death it really redeemed Pokemon after the disaster that was gen 8 for me (and it's REALLY fun to shiny hunt in).

And LAST but certainly not least. My favorite Pokemon game of all time period ever in the history of Pokemon. Not a mainline game but a side/spinoff game--Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky!! If you want the classic Pokemon experience I probably wouldn't start with this since it's so different from the mainline games but I'd 10000% play it after finishing your first Pokemon game. It's a dungeon crawler, you get to BE a Pokemon, the music is phenomenal, the gameplay is phenomenal, the story is PHENOMENAL, everything about it is incredible and I will love this game until the day I die. I CANNOT recommend it enough. It's so so SO good and it means so much to me I can't even. Please play PMD Sky this goes to everyone who hasn't played it I prommy it's worth it

So basically:

Easy games with no/light plot: FRLG, Emerald, HGSS

Games with a perfect blend of actual gameplay and plot: BW/B2W2, Platinum, PLA

Games that hit HEAVY with plot/storyline: SM, SV, PMD Sky

Honestly you really cannot go wrong no matter where you start out. Even if it's with one of the games I DIDN'T personally recommend, all the mainline games have their own unique charm and each generation has its die hard fans (UNOVA GANG RISE). I've played all of them and they're all enjoyable!

As for the anime, my personal recommendations are the XY saga and the SM saga! The SM saga is my ultimate favorite, it's really cute and charming and fun, with some heavier plot arcs sprinkled in so it's a good blend between lighthearted stuff and more serious story. XY is VERY plot-heavy especially in the latter part, there's a lot of character development and crazy stuff going on, so I'd go for that one if you want to get hit hard with Feels. I haven't watched as much of the anime so I'm sure other people would recommend other seasons (I know the original saga, the Hoenn saga and the DP saga are fan favorites).

I'd also recommend watching the sub instead of the dub,, especially if you haven't grown up watching the Pokemon anime like me the dub is VERY hit or miss. I prefer subs as well bc the dub actually cuts out a LOT of stuff? I know for SM they had fun extra little bits at the beginning and ending of each episode that the dub just. Didn't include. For some reason? Like they'd cut out entire scenes. Idk. It's up to you either way tho ^^

And that is my introduction to Pokemon list.........if anybody has anything to add feel free! These are just my personal recommendations based off of what I like so naturally not everyone will agree lol. If you have any questions anon don't hesitate to ask, I'm always down to talk Pokemon. OH MY GOD DUDE THIS PIECE TOOK ME LITERALLY 3 DAYS STRAIGHT TO WORK ON AND FINISH I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING

so like. i worked on it as my final for one of my classes this semester and i had a surprise road trip in between starting it and finishing it. like i started it one night, finished the sketch, went to bed, had that road trip, and proceeded to use the next few days to finish the piece. let me tell you i was goin THROUGH it working on that thing but i love it sm

9. any new art mediums youve tried (or overall styles if you havent tried new mediums)

not particularly? i DID try drawing MS Paint doodles more often to figure out a way to doodle a lot more quickly but i'm not sure if that counts. in terms of art styles though i did attempt to replicate the art in omori (w/ that aubrey sprite and that omori mod i keep forgetting i made) and persona 5 (w/ that asuka AOA finisher) though :3c

20. what do you think youve improved on the most over the past year

GRAHHH RENDERING AND SHADING GRAAHHH

ok so like. last year (2022) i was going through a Crisis because my art at the time was purely cel shaded with very minimal airbrush usage and i barely got any attention aside from like, a piece or two lmfao.

so in later 2022 i decided "fuck it i'm gonna try rendering bc maybe that'll get me attention" bc i kinda had and kinda still do have that thing where attention on social media works like a drug which is Not Good!!! don't do that don't think that it is no bueno

so i kinda just. forced myself to improve regarding rendering late that year and early-to-mid this year. bc my art HAD to be of the highest quality or else i won't be liked or whatever. like girl!!! who cares!!!! you're supposed to like it and that's all that matters!!!

now i don't particularly render, i just use pretty pretty pencil and chalk brushes with a bit of airbrushing here and there and it looks really good and really unique to me :3c i think i'm happier with it than with the rendering i tried to do throughout the year

look I'm still here for the spider trust me

I've just been more focused on writing for my art recently so what can ya do?

So if you aren't here for plok lore rambles, uh. Yeah.

Surprise! Spider art!

Thats it for drawings. (Beta Womack on a MTG Card) Anyways plok lore.

There's not a lot of it. Shocker, right? At least around the game. We're gonna give knowledge on all the characters I can.

We can infer that there were 3 "Ploks" total. Grandpappy Plok, (Mystery Dad Plok), and Game Plok. (Mystery Dad Plok) is heavily implied if not outright stated in the webcomic to be the Plok that would have been in the cancelled arcade game Fleapit.

The Bobbins. What to say about the Bobbins. They're very cut and dry "failed circus acrobats turned thugs for hire". We all know about Irving by this point, I hope. If you don't; yeah, there's a third bobbins. He's green. He's my favorite because I can see him not being a total jerkwad like the others (from 1 line of dialogue).

The Penkinos. They're magicians. They kill everyone that attends their shows apparently. They're very purposefully vague and mysterious. How do they turn pretty much invincible when fully ballooned? God I wish to unsee what I have seen when it comes to living balloons.

Womack.? Yeah. Surprise surprise, we have 'he's a cool dude who thinks he's king of all he sees'. Why make a whole fan page about all of that? Because. He's a cool as heck spider!!! And I want to see cool as heck spiders succeed.

Fun Womack Fact; In Game Womack was designed by Lyndon Brooke. His in-game sprite came before any art of him outside the game.

Rockyfella, the dirt spirit that hates flagpoles. I mean, if someone stuck a bunch of signs and flagpoles in my body, I wouldn't be happy either! Uh, Grandpappy digs up one of his heads somehow. Read the webcomic, he's there a lot.

Fleas! Look. I don't personally care about fleas enough to look at the manual. There's more about fleas than any other character aside from plok.

My personal thoughts?

I dislike the Ploks. They're on the lower end of my character interests here.

My favorite headcanon; Game Plok was a younger teen during the games. Because he comes across as a little pest during them, or at least childish (derogatory).

I enjoy the Bobbins. Still not high tier but I have a soft spot for the worst characters (people wise) you will ever meet.

My favorite headcanon; Irving, after he left, decided to go to trade school. It's a funny image in my head okay shhh.

The penkinos. I wanna like them. But read the last sentence of their prior section.

My favorite headcanon; Those shapes and patterns on them? Mostly paint and decals. They are smooth, single color beans under that.

Womack! Read my URL. I love this spider sm. He's just a funky dude! He's canonically cool, I mean, seriously, look at him. Beta Womack's official art is so sad tho.

My favorite headcanon; He has an eye for interior design. Sure, that eye loves as many sunset colors as he can get, but its still an eye!

Rockyfella, up there, cool guy, deserves to not have flagpoles stuck in him. I cannot draw buff guys atm so he has been a struggle.

My favorite headcanon; everyone asks him to flavor their food. 'Salt is a rock, isn't it?' He is not amused.

Fleas. So many, and they're pretty much just simpleminded animals. I enjoy the legs.

My favorite headcanon; If you lifted them up, they would just go longcat with their legs. Folded up, they look manageable. Unfolded, those tendies are LONG.

So Samus herself? Mmh...

10) Metroid 1: her face is literally three dots, I don't know what to say about this design. Also when you get the "only helmet off" ending, her hair looks so weird. Yeah I know, I'm bullying an NES game, but still. To be fair, her playable sprites look really good, even better than her Suit sprites... and yes, I'm counting the Justin Bailey sprites :P

9) Prime 1: what happened to your mouth ma'am. why do you look like a 40 yo mom in a suit that should dislocate your shoulders.

8) Prime 2: very obviously inspired by her Zero Mission look, but still trying to be realistic... not a good combination.

7) Metroid 2: I don't know why she seems to be in her underwear, and now it comes off as blatant fanservice, but she looks good for being on the GB.

6) Other M: she's very pretty, but I'll never forgive them for making her so short and slender, considering how it's uncomfortably reflected in her characterization...

5) Metroid Fusion: The face and hair are a little too anime waifu, especially coming off the heels of SM, but I like how she still has some definite muscles, mostly her arms.

4) Metroid Zero Mission: she thicc. This is the game that gave her her iconic modern design, and I love how confident and attractive she comes across, although I much prefer her orange two piece over the Zero Suit.

3) Prime 3: She has a mild case of resting bitch face, but she also looks mature and badass, and her anime inspiration is just enough without dumping her in the uncanny valley.

2) Super Metroid: dem abs and thighs, man. goals <3 Also she looks so good with that wild '90s hair.

1) Samus Returns: she looks strong! I'm really glad they gave her a thicker waist, and in some concept art you can also see her thighs better. She comes off as realistically athletic. Great look for her :)

I am shooketh that someone made a silhouette mirage iceberg... you are amazing op... and now, I’m gonna talk about it, share my thoughts! Go read op’s comments on it first. I’ll only comment on the points I have thoughts on/know about

It’ll be long so I’ll leave a break

Tip: Religious references: Only in the japanese version, mostly names of things that link to christianity and judaism. Shyna Nera Shyna is called Sinner Neutlarva Sinner (sins being a big thing in religion, duh), Bug is Moses, Polly Peepers are called Cupids and Specters are called Devils. A lot of the guardian angels are named after stages of angel hierarchy in judaism. I made a list of all the names in english then japanese

Playable Zohar: They’re playable only in the english version in the credits and the ‘Super Core Fighter 2′ mode (never heard of that one...) perhaps as a bonus for the english version

Censorship: In jp version bunny salesman has a cigarette which was changed to thumbs up and when he wants you to hurry up shows a flaming cross in the background which was changed to a dragon in the localised version

Regional differences: Kinda referenced already with hell bunny and name changes. Also, the reaper and geluve aren’t in the japanese version (which with the latter I was surprised about when I found out)

Delia’s wife is Serah: Before the fight with Deliah, Hal states something like ‘think about Serah’ before he buggers off. I dunno if it’s really implied that they’re married and there’s no other reference of it, even from Delia. Though I believe there is a track in-game called ‘your wife is an angel’ so that could relate to it

Ikaruga: Think I heard about this game while watching a review on sm. Apparently it has the same silhouette and mirage thing with two aspects and facing two different ways when fighting etc etc

The genus of Zohar (their gender): Pfffftt they’re just both, duh, dunno why people get wound up over this... anyways, I just headcanon them as two separate characters..

Shyna and Clod are brothers(means, Clod is Shyna’s brother): I..... always thought Clod was female... -_- after reading up jp stuff about it I think they were male in the og version but changed to female in translation because of the translators not getting their gender. I always thought their voice sounded female in the english version. Nevermind... in the jp version Clod (dumb name) says ‘Goodbye, sister’ before the fight.

Which ending is canon?: Whichever you want... there isn’t a sequel... My chosen one is the restore edo one. I believe everyone is reborn too

Shallows Discarded bosses: Judas, Nebuchadnexxar and Hashmalim04 (+ Geluve in the jp version). Judas was apparently meant to be an ally of Megido. I believe she may have betrayed him though since Judas bible betrayed Jesus bible in the bible tm. Nebu man looks like the stereotypical anime pervert.... I think he’d play a roll in Delia’s tv pad since he looks like a director. Not sad to see you go, sir. Hashmalim04 is, duh, the fourth guardian angel. Looks real cool, probably controlled both silhouette and mirage.

Zohar crying: I’m not aware of this, god, I felt so much for Zohar.... ;-; apparently its during the cypher zohar fight. Went to find it again and it’s kinda barely noticeable.. I must’ve thought it was just flashy particle effects. Though it’s quite sad now looking back on it.

The reaper: English only boss, appears if you haven’t lost all your health at all. Apparently they’re challenging you since you so op. I find them kinda boring... love their horse chariot though..

Merchandise: WHERE CAN I GET IT?! Nowhere probably because they most certainly made barely any

Doujinshi: Damnit these look so cute..! Doujinshi is japanese for fan manga. Not official works

Hal is not that smart: Well it’s more Shyna’s just powerful... I believe that if the angels couldn’t stop her that nothing would’ve stopped her.

The image of adult Shyna: God... I’m not a fan....

The middle bit The age of Shyna and Zohar: I see them as programs/robots so I don’t think they have ages. Op states Shyna is 14 and Zohar is 17 which I think is a good choice.

Ying and Yang: It’s the idea that good and bad must be equal and the other exists a little in the other. I really see this link. Since it’s shown that Silhouette and Mirage need to be in balance - as seen in the ending where Megido goes weird cause Har was killed therefore there was too much mirage. I believe Silhouette and Mirage in the world of the game are perhaps like light and shadow or good and evil.

Geluve’s father is Hal: I believe this one but I don’t think op does. Doesn’t Har distinctively call Geluve ‘daughter’ as she interrupts him...? I do rather believe some of the guardian angels see Har as a father, such as Dynamis calling him ‘daddy’. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Har took the angels in like children after they were abandoned

Pollys and Pumpkins are human: It seems op believes this but I’m not sure if I do. I just don’t see the evidence. Why would the humans be attacking Shyna is she’s going to restore the world for humans??

Bottom of the iceberg Shyna is has (hmm) a bomb: Like, kinda a reset bomb. She isn’t really a bomb as she’s never destroyed - you can see her in the reset ending, alive and well. You could say she was carrying a reset button that turns on automatically once close to Edo, it’s not particularly a bomb.

Shyna needs the player for her to have a purpose: I think that’s a bit deep. Yeah, every game protagonist can only do things if the player controls them. I think this is just thinking a bit too deep.

Hal and Megido are Clod’s personalities: I’m not sure what to think of this. So Clod was an asshole and an asshole? I don’t think Har and Megido are different enough to be ‘separate personalities’. We don’t really know enough about Clod to know this at all.

Depths Was she the messenger of destruction or not?: I think this all comes down to what you believe happens after Edo is restored. If you think everything is reset and all the humans are saved then she’s the messenger of justice. If you believe everyone is killed and new humans are born, perhaps it was destruction after all because everyone died anyway.

Shyna committed human genocide: See above

Silhouette Mirage 2: I wish. Though I think treasure isn’t known for continuing their ips so I don’t think this would ever happen.

The side effects of being subjected to experiments: I suppose this is talking about Clod. I really have no idea what to say about it. As I said before, we really don’t know enough about Clod to tell us what really happened to them during the experimentation.

Geluve represents how Shyna would end up if she turned out to be another failed messenger: Uh, I suppose..? Wouldn’t all the guardian angels be though..?

-Got into One Ok Rock through Yuta, she’s the hyung she views as a big brother and Yuta is honoured that he can somewhat mentor someone and treats her like he treats Mark but at a bit less teasingly as he doesn’t want her to think he’s actually serious.(he called her an alien by accident once and he apologised for days afterwards cause he felt bad even though Amelie didn’t mind.)

-instantly clicked with Renjun because of their interest in the supernatural, and Jaemin because he genuinely made the effort to make sure she was included in the group at first alongside Rose and Karine.
