it is getting so ridiculously hard to access doctor’s appointments. the booking line for my doc’s office opens at 8:30am so i call at exactly 8:30 only for my call to be rejected because they are already taking a call. they don’t even put me into a queue, the phone just forcibly cancels the call. the system at my local doctors is for patients to call over and over at the designated time slot until a staff member becomes available to pick up the phone. they don’t have a better system than that. for me this took about 25 redials over 15 minutes (not all my call attempts even fit in my screenshot). THEN i am finally placed on hold in a queue. they can’t tell you how many people are in the queue, they can only tell you it’s ‘more than 5’. i wait in the queue for 10 minutes, and when i finally get to talk to a person she says that all appointments are booked, and i cannot book an appointment for a future date. the only way to get an appointment is to call back the next time the line opens up again. so i will be doing this again soon

Day 5 - 9/6/2023
Hello!
I went on a water fast because it was so painful for me to eat and I just didn't want my body to be in pain anymore and I lost 12 pounds. lmao. I cancelled my appointment with my holistic doctor and went to a gastro doctor today and cried before he even came in. He saw that I was crying and immediately asked me what's wrong and gave me tissues. The way I cry over everything should be studied. lol. I guess I was really tired and scared and I have major health anxiety. He was so nice and patient with me. He said he doesn't think I have leaky gut but something else and gave me medication to lessen the symptoms until we can figure out what's wrong. He looked at the test I've taken previously and doesn't think it's accurate so he wants to take it from there. He checked my abdominal area and asked if it hurt when he pushed down on it and I said no and he was like so that's not concerning! That's a good thing. I told him I haven't been eating because I didn't want to deal with the pain and he was like I need you to eat! The holistic doctor was telling me to not eat gluten and all this shit and the gastro was like you can eat whatever you want. lmfao. I like that he was just straight forward and didn't push me to do anything I didn't want to do and was even like we can test you for this and that but it's so expensive and I love doctors who are like we don't want you to spend this much. Healthcare in America is so atrocious. But it was nice that he was so reassuring because I want to fix whatever is going on in my digestive system and be able to eat without pain and not bloat so much. I'm spending so much time and money right now for my health and I hope it's worth the investment so I'm not in so much pain in the future. I just want to eat all the goods things again and I know I will. Thank you to the gastro doctor and I hope he can fix me. Wait, I know he will fix me.
I went to UPS after to return something and it took awhile because someone brought a bunch of boxes to ship out so I was there for a minute but I know there's a shortage of UPS workers so I was patient. I went home after and cried again and took a fat ass nap before going to Erewhon to see one of my besties and trade Dodgers' bobbleheads with him because he's moving to Australia for work. I gave him a Cody Bellinger one and he gave me the new Chris Taylor one that they gave out this year. I think it's times like these where life isn't as terrible because as much I spent a lot of my life resisting the urge to end it, I have to remember that so many people love and care about me. I was there for like 3 fucking hours because we were talking and I wanted a tuna sandwich but they ran out so he asked someone from the deli to make it for me and I also got a slice of pizza. I was lowkey scared to eat it cause gluten! I took the pills the doctor gave me and I feel fine right now. It was nice to eat after not eating for 10 days. The upstairs neighbors also gave us pasta. It kind of reminds you that people are nice to you, you know? Food is definitely a love language of mine. I can't wait until I fix my digestive issues and can eat without pain and have my clothes fit again and not have so much bloat and inflammation. I had a field day today with all the food I ate but I don't regret it and I hope my body was okay with it. Things seem to be looking up. I've been in limbo as of late with the job hunt, with the debt and my health issues but I know that one by one, everything's going to work out. Just one of those phases where you're kind of stuck in this gray area but you know at the end of the day it's going to be okay because you're putting in the work to make sure it's going to be okay. Someone is going to hire me this month, I'm going to fix my digestive system this year, I'll pay off all my debt. There's nothing to worry about and this isn't something I necessarily want to stress over because that doesn't help me at all. Manifesting and claiming with so much love and gratitude. <3

Rural communities account for only 14 percent of America’s total population. Yet, rural America makes up nearly 66 percent of primary care health professional shortage areas (HPSAs), according to a 2021 Kaiser Family Foundation survey. One of the leading causes of shortages of the healthcare workforce in rural America is the challenge of attracting professionals to these areas.
HPSA is a measure of areas and populations within the United States that are understaffed with healthcare workers. Given healthcare facilities in rural areas are acutely understaffed compared to those in urban areas, states should focus more on areas with shortages and less on areas with provider surpluses. In rural areas, there are only 39 physicians per 100,000 people, compared to 53 primary care physicians per 100,000 people in urban centers.
According to the American Academy of Family (AAFP) physicians, two of the leading predictors that a physician will elect to practice in rural areas are background and specialty. For instance, family physicians are more likely to choose a rural practice, compared to general practitioners. Also, students with rural backgrounds are more likely to move back to their communities and practice there than those who’ve grown up in urban centers.
Some medical schools are rural areas-oriented. They train physicians to serve in rural areas, meaning graduates from such schools are more likely to locate and serve in rural areas than those from schools that lack a rural mission. Although a physician is likely to continue with rural practice once they’ve started and having a rural background helps, other factors affect their decision to stay. In terms of retention rates, turnover plays a big role.
Turnover occurs anytime a medical practitioner decides to leave a hospital, for any reason. Rural areas have a higher turnover rate than urban centers. Reasons behind high turnover rates in rural areas include understaffing, which stresses the existing workforce, career frustrations, job fit, income disparity, and underfunding.
Rural areas without an affiliate hospital reported a 27 percent turnover, while those with critical access hospitals had an 18 percent turnover rate. The presence of affiliated hospitals in rural areas served as a motivating factor for rural practitioners. This demonstrates that attracting primary physicians to rural areas is not enough. Stakeholders must do more to make them want to stay and continue their rural practice.
With the knowledge of the predictors of physicians choosing to work in HPSAs, states and the federal government have a way to encourage more primary care physicians to practice medicine in rural areas. At the federal level, increasing the number of medical residency slots might help. At the state level, more medical schools should focus on rural components, including preparing students for the unique life of rural practice. Then, they lie about being "pro-life." They want people to be forced to have kids. Even if all the data shows that illegal abortion is unsafe and more lives will be at risk from botched illegal abortions. And it's horrible to bring a child into the world if they weren't wanted in the first place or if they can't be financially or emotionally supported.
- They don't support Universal Healthcare.
- They're against welfare.
- they're against a bill that addresses the baby formula shortage
- they're against longer parental leave (for both parents)
- they want to block the LGBTQ community from being able to adopt
They say get a job. But people need three jobs and still can't pay rent.
- They're against raising the minimum wage. They say get a better job. But people usually need more education to get a better job.

- They're against helping with exorbitant predatory student loans. They ask who will pay for it, but they are against taxing billionaires and diverting war funds. And there are kids with the immigrants, but the right doesn't care about them.

They don't care about people addicted to drugs. One solution would be to decriminalize certain drugs and offer safe places for people to get them. But the right is against any solutions.
They make fun of people addicted to drugs.
- They co-opt leftist phrases like "my body, my choice" only when they're opposing efforts to help the WHOLE of society against a highly contagious and deadly global pandemic. But they oppose "my body, my choice" when it's for abortion or drugs.
- They co-opt "believe the science" when speaking against trans people, and they say science says there are only two genders. And they say the left doesn't follow facts or logic. But when you show them that science says there are more than two biological genders AND that trans people actually exist, they ignore everything you say or double down on their anti-trans talking points.
- They actively hate trans kids. They are making laws making it illegal to help trans kids
- They're against any possible solutions to lessen climate change.
- They're against wind turbines, against electric cars, against solar power.
- They deliberately buy trucks with extra thick, black exhaust.
- They want MORE oil and coal.
- They're against ALL government regulation. Even the regulations that protect the environment, workers, consumers, and kids.
But, they support government overreach when banning books, women's healthcare, or LGBTQ rights
- They claim they want to protect children from predators. But they ignore that trump was named in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial. They ignore Roy Moore. They ignore Matt Gaetz. They ignore Ted Nugent. They ignore the Tennessee Republican, John Rose who groomed a 16 year old girl, married her, and now has children with her.
- NINE of the top ten states with the most child marriage are red states.
Educating kids with proper sex education has been shown to teach kids to know if they're being taken advantage of and gives them the language to speak out about it. It also decreases teen pregnancies, which would cut down on the need for abortions. But the right doesn't care. They don't want proper sex education talked about at all.
They say they're for free speech and say the left is against it. But GOP politicians are using the government to punish Disney and ban books and threaten teachers from talking about history and respecting kid's gender, and forcing them to say the pledge of allegiance (in Massachusetts.) And they think people should be imprisoned or fined for burning the flag.
They claim we should keep confederate statues and flags up because we'll forget history without them, but they are against teaching about slavery. They call it CRT but don't know what that is. They just want a blanket ban on teaching history because they say it makes their kids feel bad. But they'll always repeat "facts don't care about your feelings" - but that doesn't apply to the right; the right only wants to obstruct, needlessly complicate things, and cause misery.
They worship the second amendment especially when there are mass shootings. They think school shootings are ways for the government to take away their guns. But the only president that has said anything about taking guns without due process was trump.
They say it's not a gun problem but a mental health issue, but they don't care about people with mental health issues. Not only are they bigoted towards trans people, but they're also ableist. They say trans people are crazy and have mental health issues, but they actively denigrate them and say they won't support their mental issues. Thus exhibiting that they don't care about mental health issues; they actively promote the abuse of people with mental issues
They act like they're against cancel culture, but are fine with republican politicians using the government to punish companies and people. trump would constantly speak out against Kaepernick and say he should be fired. Kaepernick was using his first amendment rights to protest excessive police brutality against people of color, but the right deliberately doesn't listen and says he's "disrespecting" the flag. And they offer no solution; only opposition. Then when nothing gets fixed, people get together and do larger protests. The right still doesn't listen and only offers complaints and opposition. And then doubles down and says "blue lives matter."
But then they're against the fbi when the agency goes after trump or other Republicans.
We say "defund the police." And they cry and claim you can't get RID of the police. But we say "defund the police doesn't mean to take away the police; it means to use funds in more beneficial areas to help the community in general, and to not militarize the police." They cover their ears and still complain that defund the police means to remove the police completely. They don't care about the community or using public funding more effectively and efficiently; they just want to complain and oppose
But they don't care about cops either, because when trump cultists stormed the capitol, a cop shot one of them, THEN they're against cops. They're only FOR cops when people want reform and are critical of the system.
They talk about fair elections and voter fraud, but Republicans use gerrymandering and shut down voting locations in poor areas. They disenfranchise people of color. And the majority of people caught for fraud are Republicans

In an utopian communist society where either money no longer exists at all, OR everyone gets the same monthly income for their work, if there still are Jobs that are universally seen as not-fun, or harder than most, or demeaning, or can't be made completely safe, people who agree to do those could just get the same pay for 20 hours per week that people in easy or fulfilling Jobs get for 30 hours per week, Problem solved.
Yes, there are always ways to encourage people to do things.
But if a job is universally seen as demeaning, that's a social problem. In a society with a sophisticated understanding of biology, there should be no problem with understanding that, for example:
sanitation is an interesting subject as the really dangerous stuff isn't the "dirt" we can see and wipe off things;
dealing with these issues is kind of a noble calling in that it helps literally everyone be healthy
it's also very important to the conservation of the environment; we can't just plastic pile up in the ocean or keep blasting toxic gases into the atmosphere and maintain a habitable planet
so it's not demeaning to be a sanitation worker, even if you're not doing the intellectual work.
I think we treat certain jobs as demeaning because we don't like to think about them. We don't like to think about what happens to food that rots and things that get too soiled for us to clean and we don't like to think about what happens to our shit and blood and piss, so we look down on cleaners because they remind us of things we want to forget.
Slaughterhouse workers and people who work with dead bodies also get some of this.
And of course, we live in a society that is very sex-negative for anyone who isn't a cishet ablebodied white male with money. If you're not in that category having a satisfying sexual life is fraught with all kinds of barriers to cross and social costs for crossing them (hell, even ace people are hassled for NOT wanting to have sex).
As a result, not only are people trafficked and forced into sex work, but also, the people who do enjoy doing sex work, get treated badly, because all of our negative feelings about sexuality get projected on to them: people who feel rejected and that they have to use sex work services can sometimes be terrible, angry customers, and there's the demonisation of female-presenting people who like sex with multiple partners, and the way we have put many kinds of sexuality into categories that are viewed as dirty and impure and gross.
I think that if everyone views a job as demeaning and horrible, there is something very wrong with the way that job is being handled in that society. There's no job that has to be demeaning.
Cleaning up poop is not inherently demeaning. Everyone with pets or children in their family does a certain amount of it. Doing it as a job is caretaking for the entire society, as opposed to beloved individuals.
Sex? Only demeaning if workers don't want to do that kind of work, or are being abused.
I don't think very many people want to do in-person sex work--especially not in the society we live in now--but since some people clearly DO, there are probably more who might enjoy it if it doing it didn't give the police, the customers and anyone else who wants to be an asshole the ability to hurt you without any risk to themselves.
There are some medical jobs with extreme risks involved, but people still want to do them. There is no shortage of people who want to work at the CDC.
I work in a hospital, I'm an admin so I can work from home a lot, but I assure you that while everyone who worked on site during the worst of this pandemic (at least so far, knock particleboard) was scared, most people still wanted to help and to do their jobs. What has caused a lot of the flight from healthcare work that we're seeing right now is seeing how much the rich people who run health insurance companies and governments don't care if we die doing the work, not doing the work itself--a whole lot of health care worker deaths were preventable, but the government didn't get people the PPE they needed. Same with teachers.
Every important job in society, there's someone who wants to do it. I would have loved being a teacher but I have health problems and need my benefits and I don't want to be destitute, which I would be, with student loans.
Work is never the problem. The problem is capitalism. The problem is bosses and work culture. The problem is the assumption that people don't want to work and have to be forced with carrots and sticks to work. This, amazingly, makes even people who might otherwise enjoy their work hate working, because nobody likes to be 'managed' unless they need help.

can you talk to us abt the ghouls who DO want to keep hunting and eating meat? how do they organize? are they hunted down, or is there any programs to reintroduce them into society? are they directly culled or do they have rights as prisoners? I personally feel Kaneki's approach to the whole ghoul-human peace situation is still extremely human centric (it is ghouls who have to adapt to them after all even if they were the 'discriminated' side), does that cause resistence for the ghouls that causes them to go on hunts as opposition?
Once ghouls start to be decriminalized, dealing with remaining ghoul conflict is a hugely reworked issue without a clear cut answer. Most former CCG opt to just keep killing them like they always did, “if they want to be treated like humans they need to act like humans” and all that, but hey ghouls and sympathetic humans don’t agree, so new methods are agreed on
There are so many factors that need to be accounted for. How can they get ghouls to trust that this isn’t an elaborate plot to kill them? What resources do they need to be in a position to stop hunting? What methods from the CCG can be salvaged and what needs to be completely replaced? They end up with an amalgamation of procedures, but most importantly, humans are paired with ghouls in the CGS to ensure no one is working completely on a human or ghoul perspective and are forced to understand each other to better apply what they know to helping others
Ghouls who live like they used to, small hunts to feed themselves and family, skirmishes to protect feeding grounds, are relatively simpler cases. The procedure is now to approach them and offer to talk about the programs to support integrate them, if that doesn’t work and the ghouls flees or attacks, they need to make an arrest. Ghoul partners are heavily relied on here since their abilities make them more able to trap the ghoul without using lethal attacks. These ghouls are brought to the CGS building and have it explained again that they’re in no real danger. At this point they are given the vaccine, some coffee and left with a group of ghoul employees who can monitor them in case they’re physically or mentally ill. This tends to work to get them to agree to the help, and if not, they’re relegated to cells just until they do agree to it. Ghoul employees wanted to not use the cells at all, but comfortable cells free of harsh light or smells for temporary use were the most they were able to talk their human allies down to
There are programs to help ghouls integrate, and more and more are needed as things come up. It started with just getting ghouls the Let’s Not Eat People vaccine, then healthcare and documents proving they exist, then school and work protections. It becomes increasingly clear to human employees just how much ghouls struggle, and countless aid programs are set up. Luckily, the prospect of healthcare, jobs, education, mental health resources and housing is enough to outweigh most ghoul’s fears about coming to them, especially as more ghouls go out and spread the word that it’s really not a trap
Quinque have become a topic of discussion. Production has stopped, and a handful of ghouls banded together to sue the CCG for the return of their loved one’s quinque, making returning them legally mandated if a ghoul wants a loved one back. The shortage has lead to a type of quinque steel and q-bullets made from living ghouls donated rc the standard weapon again, making human employees much less dangerous and rely on their ghoul coworkers
Aogiri still exists. Some ghouls are too afraid, too resentful of having to live with humans as if nothing happened, or simply believe that humans are livestock to be subjugated. The CGS arrests them when they can, but unfortunately there are battles. Though ghoul organization’s numbers have dwindled, they are still a threat both to humans and the ghoul programs that they’ve been sabotaging to try to halt integration
Ghouls now have the right to life, same as other humans, and can not be put to death anymore. They have the things they need and protections now and can report mistreatment to the ghoul employees who will advocate for them. More and more, simply treating the ghouls taken prisoner like people, not threatening them, and giving them access to basic needs and opportunities to get help rejoining society is enough to get most of them to not just calm down, but work with them.
A big problem is humans trying to deal with mentally ill or panicked ghouls. A ghoul backed into a corner will posture aggressively and lash out if pushed, and too many humans respond with violence in kind. More often then one would expect, the ghoul partner will command the human to stay back or even physically stop them from going after the ghoul and make the arrest themselves. These ones make up most of the cases of ghouls kept on the cells for awhile. It’s likely for the best as small dark spaces are the best for soothing a fearful ghoul, and it’s easier to talk to them or get them help when they’re not hyperventilating and growling
There’s common conflicts between the CGS and police. Humans freak out about ghouls, call the cops, and cops are idiots who never handle anything with nuance or tact. Cops just go “oh it’s a ghoul let’s kill it” but know absolutely nothing about ghouls and don’t quite get that they’re outmatched, but have a talent for causing panic and escalating a completely peaceful and normal situation into one with a panicked and aggressively posturing ghoul. Obviously 1: that’s not their jurisdiction and 2: they keep fucking up the situations they try to handle. The law requiring cases including ghouls to be turned over to the CCG is restored so the CGS can handle ghoul cases with any amount of tact at all. Even so, so much time is wasted getting cops to get the fuck away from the ghouls they’re trying to help
Unexpectedly, one of the biggest changes was the ban of RC suppressants used on prisoners. They were incredibly in humane and, once the full list of effects were declassified, even most humans were disgusted with the fact that they’d been used. They cause, insomnia, severe anxiety, hallucinations, terrible inflammation of the kakuhou, and even organ failure in many. The amount used regularly was lethal for half the ghouls at cochlea, and regularly kept up to prevent guards from interacting with calm, healthy ghouls and seeing them as people. Now that they’ve been banned from use on detained ghouls, not only are suppressants affordable for people who need them for medical reasons, but ghouls in custody are able to think clearly enough to talk and reason
The leap in ghoul rights bleeds into human protections. More and more, humans are applying to live in the housing built to help ghouls get on their feet, human parents are asking for ghoul IEPs for their kids, human workers are seeking the same employment protections. Countless changes occur as humans who’ve been struggling meet up with ghouls who struggle in similar ways and band together to advocate for themselves.

How Britain Broke Another Nurse
This is an open letter to anyone and everyone with an opinion of the nursing profession,
I woke up this morning to my partner arriving home from her third nightshift in a row so far this week. She is an NHS Staff Nurse, a kind, caring and selfless person who loves her patients. She usually takes night shifts in her stride but today she had an exhaustion in her eyes that cannot be attributed to just work.
She had read a great many things on social media that had pushed her to breaking point. There has been much discussion on twitter and facebook regarding the initial 1% pay rise for nurses proposed by the government. Where last year, we in the nursing profession had the support of the public, we apparently do not any more.
There were comments ranging from “You don't get into nursing for the money,” to “Be grateful you have a job,” and “You don't deserve pay for making tiktok video's.” Some of the comment's were too vile to quote, but one horrible person even said that nurses 'deserved to get covid, for choosing to work in covid areas.'
As a long time healthcare worker myself, I am well aware of the hardships that fully qualified nurses go through. Where once, people supported (term used very loosely) the NHS through their clapping, apparently they don't give a damn any more.
Nurses were severely underpaid before the pandemic, and with the even greater challenges they now face, we find proof that nobody really cares at all. The general consensus was to 'stop complaining and get on with it.'
There are a significant number of people, that earned more at home on furlough than an average nurse did for working through the pandemic. My partner said that she realised that we would only ever be “just nurses” to the rest of the world, and that people would never respect us.
I could see it in my partner's eyes, her love of the job was gone. The British public had broken another nurse.
It is true that most nurses do not get into nursing for the money, they tend to be selfless and caring people who want to help others. But this is often drained out of them by a toxic situation of being in a job that is so poorly respected that the general public do not even care that it is one of the worst paid graduate jobs in the country. They also don't seem to care that even after spending 3-4 years at university, nurses are still treated like second class citizens in their own place of work.
Your every action is scrutinised. The slightest miscalculation or misjudgement (even if caused by work related stress and fatigue) can result in being disciplined/suspended/fired/ struck off. I saw a nurse face disciplinary action for a minor drug error that occurred as a result of being forced to cover twice as many patients as she was legally allowed to in a very busy acute unit. And if you are abused by a patient or family member, management's response is often “What could YOU do differently to avoid this next time?” These are just a small example of the hardships faced by registered nurses every single day.
I have seen many nurses go from enthusiastic new starts, to hating their job within a few years. Indeed, I have also seen a lot of nurses leave the profession all together, because it simply isn't worth the stress and hardship. Then the public complain about a shortage of nurses...
People often draw similarities between the position of teacher's and nurses, both being very under respected and under funded, as well as asking for an appropriate wage. To give context: last year Point 1 on the Main Scale for Teachers was over £32,000 where as a newly qualified staff nurse earned a little over £25,000 standard rate. I'm saying this NOT to create conflict nor contest between us and our public sector colleagues in teacher but to demonstrate the following point:
Nurses feel they cannot strike en mass without the risk to patient's health. Teacher's can (for the most part) strike without the risk to people's health as a result. (And the government know this all too well when setting the budget).
Nurse's don't want to be rich, they just want to be respected.
I would like to finish by clarifying the point of this letter. I am not asking for political upheaval, nor am I commenting on whether or not nurses should take industrial action.
I am asking you, the public, to support nurses. They are only human and just as fragile as the rest of us, and yet somehow manage to do a lot more than most of us could ever manage.
To take someone who's only desire is to help others, and beat that out of them, is an act of vile cruelty. I hope this letter will make you think twice before saying such hurtful things from behind your keyboards in future. You might not care about nurses, but one day you will care about the lack of them.
