this booster shot knocked me flat for a day longer than anticipated, so i watched the first two seasons of adventure time in something of a haze. very funny to watch these first two seasons of largely unconnected episodes find their footing and tone, and think about the huge eight-episode arcs in the back half of this show's run.

the credits song, Island Song (Come Along With Me), is one of like. three songs that instantly make me feel safe. a well-loved picnic blanket of a song.

not a fallow week but i haven't gotten far enough into the 1920s cowboy novel i picked up to have coherent thoughts about it. except for: why do cowboy movies and books always want you to know that a man isn't like Hot hot. but he's still the hottest guy around. get a load of this handsome piece of 100% american beef. who is a little rugged from his time on the range but he has nice eyes and knows what soap is we PROMISE. have we talked about his stubborn yet classic jaw yet

nonspoilery A/ndor thoughts. i can't really do the "what worked for me, what didn't, why, and what do i think this work is trying to do" bc the finale dropped too recently for anyone to want to read a wall of rot13, and i am unable to be objective about S/tar Wars.

i really really really liked this show. head and fucking shoulders above any other recent S/tar W/ars (henceforth SW) show in writing and production. GOD i love watching some leftist infighting when it doesn't affect me personally. the gunfights are never just gunfights, there's always something environmental going on that everyone has to work around. DAMN this shit fucking hit for me!!!

this is an analogy that will work for three people, but the difference between mainline SW and A/ndor is like the difference between modern east coast and west coast Fallouts. the writing team behind A/ndor is the kind of team that would look at the brief for New Vegas, go “okay, so this city is obviously a special economic zone with a NCR embassy within the city” and fucking run with that, the Jackals and the Vipers are distinct groups that fight everyone and each other with distinct beliefs and methods meanwhile there’s uhhhh some??? trade??? i guess??? in the greater Boston area and the biggest coherent roaming XP group in Fallout 4 is called the Gunners. what their deal is, who pays them, where they came from?? who fucking knows!!! certainly not me or the writers!!!

in the process of researching this post, i had in my head for SO long that the Gunners originated from Vault 75, the one under Malden Middle School, but that is simply incorrect. that's so fucking easy that's right fucking there it's already a Gunner base why isn't that canon

the multiplayer aspect of this newest pokemon game is more of a photo op with friends simulator than anything else. you can't in any meaningful way (or at least we didn't figure out how to) battle together or even make sure we were synced up to do star team or gym fights at the same time (except for the terra raids which take thirty seconds max). however i do have this very cute, if slightly choppy photo of me and my best friend

Who is in your Top 5 favorite MXTX characters and what is it about them that just *hits* you?

IT TOOK ME ALL DAY but i had FEELINGS. These are in no particular order

Lan Wangji - First one I fell in love with. LOve someone who’s protective (and a lil jelly) and also doesnt talk except when absolutely necessary bc thats meeee. LWJ is over here like *assumes people already know what he knows* like “yeah I bet he remembers the last thing i told him before he died”, meanwhile people (namely wwx) are misunderstanding his intentions and he’s misunderstanding WWX’s intentions and ahhh!!! too relatable!!!  He’s also gorgeous okay and powerful and rich but also just Very In Love I!!! Cry!! Especially in the extras. DOMESTIC WANGXIAN

Luo Binghe (you’ll notice a pattern here, my faves are the Overprotective Tops) AND also shoutout to LBH’s one and only husband SQQ, they’d be tied together at the number one spot but on their own only LBH makes the top 5 - God I just. Okay so first I fell in love with his babie self. Bunhe was wayy too adorable for his own good. Then LBH from the novel had me very frustrated and SCARED because how are they going to end up together!! This has a happy ending, right? RIGHT?? Because LBH did not feel like the type of character who’d get a happy ending, too possessive and emotionally immature (this is not to say I didnt like him. i just feared for him) BUT then, SQQ CHOOSES him, him!! Despite his flaws, he sees the potential for growth in him and says hey!! we’re not perfect but I think we can make this work AND THEY DOOO. The extras really solidified for me how much bingqiu loves each other (and with it my love for LBH). Friend said “theyre the most realistic couple” AND THEYRE RIGHT. [This is where I had a bighuge paragraph on why i love BQ but Ive omitted it bc this is about LBH] Ahem, but back to LBH, I love a character who loves Desperately. The scenes when SQQ “dies” and LBH cradles his lifeless body are OHHMAN, BUT ALSO when he sees him in his dreamscape and tries to wipe the blood on his face but only makes it worse aND ALSO when he’s just been reunited with SQQ after he got swallowed and the first thing LBH does is Kiss him!!!! AAHH head full, too many thoughts!!! Let’s move on!!!

Shi Wudu - The husband… Man where to even start… running away with his little brother, forgoing morality for his sibling, straight up rewriting fate for his sibling. The CONCERN, the WORRY, the LOVE, and yes, the Slight possessiveness!! 

All of Yi City gang - (am I cheating? Yes) I just cant put one above another… XXC was probably my second fave after LWJ buT ALSO Song Lan and his relationship with XXC is SO TRAGIC and XY is the one tying it all together and then A-QING, my girl, I didnt know I loved her so much until way after finishing the novel. Yi City would not be the same without her. THEY’RE A SET DO NOT SEPARATE 

EDIT because I realized I forgot 5. Wei Wuxian! I was going back and forth between him, Yin Yu, Shen Qingqiu, Mo Xuanyu and mmaybe Hua Cheng, and I have several reasons to like them all a lot! I think Shen Qingqiu and Wei Wuxian are eiher tied here or very close together. But Wei Wuxian is just. The most consistently likeable? I love SQQ a LOT and he’s completely different from any main character i could have expected and he had me in stitches laughing, BUT Wei Wuxian is just. Precious. He’s so motherly with the juniors, such a good friend, so loyal, so BRIGHT, and ofc his YP days are So. Amazing. Man, the contrast!!! It’s chilling, absolutely chilling. But my favorite side of him is him going full mama hen with the juniors. God he should be tied with his husband. Im so happy for him. Every time I remember his post-canon self, so happy and warm and well fed and loved and thoroughly fucked I just get so !!! yes!!! he deserves it so much!!! Wei Wuxian man, SO GOOD

But honestly you could say that about all of these characters and their respective partners (in SWD’s case, zam’s chosen partner for him, his brother). I truly feel like without their respective Others they would not appeal to me as much as they do. Except maybe LWJ and A-Qing. I can multiship them and do mean things to them and it makes me giddy instead of sad.

FAMBAM + BACKGROUND

born 14 years after the elder conelly ( wanted brother connect !!! ) entered this word to two parents who didn’t seem to read the job description, it was clear that byron wasn’t planned. and down the line, he’d soon realize through the tumultuous household he was brought up in - perhaps never even wanted.

byron’s parents had one constant - and that was fighting. over anything, all the time. there just wasn’t any love between the two and they stayed together for whatever meaningless reasons until byron hit middle school. ( there might’ve been a super short lull in toxicity once byron was born, but it had to be short as his first memories are nothing shy of toxic. )  it was a messy separation ( they never paid the full legal fees for a full divorce ) - his father moving to the coast of nj & his mother moving to a smaller apartment nearby her own mother ( which, due to the negative relationship among his mother + grandmother, also called for more tension ). he’d often be dropped off @ his grandmother’s house for baby-sitting or when he was ‘ becoming too much to handle. ’ eventually his grandmother moved into his cousin’s house ( MONROE ) and although grateful he made a practically new brother, similar tendencies of feeling unwanted occurred when byron noticed their grandmother praising and coddling and favoriting monroe just a bit more.

( his mother was a struggling addict ( and had been her whole life ), but the loneliness, newfound pressures and whatever excuse she was able to name caused her drinking to spiral worse than byron remembered ( even at his young age ) before. )

( his father was rarely in his life, but when he was, he was THE coolest. always played good cop in any situation regarding his mother, despite choosing not to have an active role in byron’s life. byron looked up to him like no other. when he WAS around, he taught byron how to surf, skateboard, play sports, they’d play video games, they’d eat junk food - honestly anything that byron wanted to do. his dad was an adrenaline junkie and created the stepping stones for byron to be one too. he was a marine biologist & pretty successful at that. passionate,  intelligent, but seemingly finding his newfound life a lot better than his previous - which is why he never wanted byron to stay too long, the boy reminded him of her, of the past. )

( his older brother moved out of the house when byron was just a lil kid, they’re not very close and don’t have much in common ... or so it seems. he lives in nyc and they only talk here and there on holidays. he was never a huge part of his life, but it does bum him out to think what could’ve been / could be. )

TO GET THE GIST 

due to never receiving the attention he craved from his family members, he made up for it tenfold in school. he was always talking to everyone, loud, boisterous, gregarious, life of the party; he wanted people to like him and they did. he become a total people pleaser, molding himself to make sure everyone was content and stayed around. impressionable, adaptable. he felt less this way towards adults and had a bit of a rebellious phase, hanging with the wrong crowd & getting into things he probably wouldn’t do otherwise. old habits die hard and he still tries his best to make everyone crack a smile, to remember him - since he believes he won’t be remembered for much else.

after he just barely skated by in high school ( his grades were never as good as his cousin’s and never lived up to his father’s expectations ), byron felt a bit lost. a lot of people had plans, were heading off to college - but already under the assumption he couldn’t reach any expectation in that realm ( a lil self fulfilling prophecy am i right pals ), he stayed in town - caring for his mother who hardly had anything together, his uncle who got sick very quickly & passed, spending time with his grandmother, while he himself fell into a rut. most of his days meant he drove out towards his dad’s place ( dad hardly there now, out and about with his new family ), surfing, smoking, and grabbing some cash doing odd jobs any way he could. he lost any purpose he once had ( but yall would never know it bc who wants to be in someone’s life who’s a buzzkill ? all smiles, baby, all smiles. )

IN WESTMERE

when his cousin offered the opportunity to travel cross-country in his van, byron had nothing to lose. always adventurous in spirit, he immediately said yes - deciding to ignore that ‘obligation,’ that feeling to make sure they were a-ok that he felt towards his parents. he needed an out and this was it. 

after landing in the small connecticut town for the night, the two fell for it - especially since when they got there along the water, it was a summer night + everything landed into place. they decided to stay there a bit longer ... and that eventually turned into more than a year. still antsy to keep traveling and to move around, byron has been ready to head out ... but stays for a few reasons - and them all being people ( bc lbh the surf is not even on point here ok )

his current job is a deckhand ( on a bunch of boats, ppl prob hired him as word of mouth got around that he knew what he was doing ). prob got that knowledge from being by his dad’s on the water when younger ( he’s ... obsessed with the water ) ! and also he’s just a quick learner ok ( ps: if your charrie has a boat pls let’s make somethin happen )

TO KNOW [ headcanons + more ]

his fav karaoke song is sweet caroline bc he knows everyone will be able to sing nd party along. he does it for the ppl, ppl.

he never saw too many baby / kid pics of himself which was kind of a bummer bc he really only remembers negative times - somehow they overpowered ( i bet lil byron was cute as fuck too fml )

he’s super into drugs, hallucinogenics, honestly you name it. it started off w/ him being impressionable, then bored, and now he just enjoys it. despite his mother’s addiction running through his blood, he still continues to do his thang.
