Continuing my slow reading of moby dick (chapter 22 rn) and these two captains are really REALLY making me think of those grumpy heckling old men muppets

#ted and beard ofc are reading each others minds #trent is shockingly good at it but only when he forgets to be self conscious #also see: he does both best and worst with ted (best when he's not being self conscious #worst when somehow the prompt gets too touchy or 'romantic' bc Crush Crush Crush Brain Panic) #(please the image of ted in character hugging him or something and trent just. red. brain crashed. no longer improving just frozen. barely #manages to recover and even then it was not subtle. unclear if ted is a) genuinely oblivious b) teasing him and thinks trent knows that #c) something else(??) ) #roy is too stiff most of the time but if he gets really into it he gets REALLY into it. #best way to get this result is to involve phoebe or another child #higgins did community theater at some point and is the one teaching them all the games. beard also seems to have done intense research #but higgins is the one with EXPERIENCE #not that i think beard and ted couldn't have done an improv duo in college or something but in this scenario they did not #nate surprisingly is pretty good at it once he gets into it like it takes him a second but #then he's like. really getting into it and he's very quick on his feet #new way to go mad with power (affectionate): the rush you get when you make the perfect snap back comedic line/acting choice #also while trent is so good paired with so many of them i think he and nate would be a hilarious duo. they're SO funny. #they complement each other well and are both quick & clever #esp if it's about a mutual interest (although one of them taking the lead on something else like nate and music while the other plays off t #em is also good) but like #please i just had the iamge of them basically doing a bit where they're like. those mean old gay muppets in the theater? #like trent and nate improv duoing as some bitchy reviewers just going back and forth and it's so FAST and SO funny #beard records it and posts it somewhere and it goes viral. #god don't even get me started on the idea of some sort of official richmond social media/the gang posting random clips on social media #bc the ideas i have are so funny. #also largely trent centric but what do you want from me okay i'm just a little slut.

If there was a Muppet version of Back to the Future which character would make for the funniest one to be the token human?

okay because I’m losing my MIND over this. On the one hand, it would be SO funny for Marty to be the human, on account of it would make his entire family muppets. Can you imagine. So much of the cast of these films is Marty’s blood relatives. Can you imagine Marty- human, still definitely Michael J. Fox Marty- at the McFly family dinner scene in the first movie and everyone is muppets. Can you imagine the Biff muppet being intimidating. Marty full on chucking the Tannen muppets across the room. Marty being grabbed by muppets and successfully stopped. Muppets throwing Marty in the trunk. Marty is tall for once in his life but at what cost. Think about Biff again because I can’t stop laughing.

On the OTHER hand, Doc being this mad fucking scientist in this town full of muppets and everyone thinks he’s crazy. You’ve got this one muppet, a little guy, wants to be a rockstar, and one day he approaches the mad scientist and they become best friends. Everyone thinks he’s crazy but it’s never about him being  a human in a sea of muppets, they’re just “his science is too crazy”. As this six foot some man just towers over all of them. Can you imagine Doc just practically sitting to maintain eye contact with muppet Marty. Doc falls in love with the Clara muppet and they have muppet children. No one questions this. Doc having to operate a train that was sized for muppets to get them back to the future.

They’re both such stellar options I can’t even function, thanks so much for coming <3 let me know what you think because I’m just gonna keep laughing about this.

The older I get the more pissed off I get at Kermit for stringing Ms. Piggy along all these years. It's one thing if he's not attracted to her or if they want different things from the relationship, but he keeps promising to marry her and never delivers, it just isn't right.

Has it been long enough that we can all admit a lot of the backlash we all had to AI art was kneejerk and that we should have fully directed our anger at the shitheads who intended to use it for a quick buck by either selling the results it spits out after typing 'beautiful angel in the style or george rutko with well drawn hands' in the prompt at a markup and call it 'original creative work' or by cutting real human artists out of the equation in commercial settings in favor of having an underpaid intern type prompts into dall-e until they get something good enough they can use as a publishable graphic

Sun out. Windows open. Birds twittering. A beautiful Sunday aft-- Dog....barking incessantly and ferociously 4 doors down like he's going to rip your fucking throat out. Probably for hours because that's how long it usually goes. I'm convinced this goldendoodle has voiced the sound for every scene in a movie where the protagonists are getting chased by attack dogs.

As for Oliver and Faust...

Initially, no, especially since it's quite the trek for Oliver to get to Faust's lab, but once we starts living in the castle instead of the mansion, it's a little easier for Oliver to assist Faust. Faust isn't interested in an aide as much as he is interested in a test subject, but he won't deny that Oliver is handy. The equipment and methods are deeply outdated for Oliver, but he's able to adapt and assist.

The place he helps out more though is around the church. He is capable of administering basic first aid. The nun story doesn't work here for him. While he is feminine enough to make it work, his mannerisms fall short of the bill, so instead he's just a friend of Faust's that frequents the church, which. Isn't necessarily wrong.

Jealousy of Oliver... Now that's an interesting idea. I think he may be jealous of the advancements that Oliver used to have as it would certainly make his research easier. I think he'd be more jealous of Theo to start with due to how much time the art dealer gets with him instead. However, once Oliver moves in, he's smug towards Theo for a little bit before that loses it's charm and he moves onto greener pastures.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what all he would be jealous of Oliver for!

If Oliver needed help relaxing, he would turn him to experiments of course. :)

Jokes aside, Faust is not exactly proficient in that sort of thing as someone who needs to take more breaks himself as well. Faust is as guilty of overworking himself as Oliver is, but they have been making an effort to step back more often and taking time for themselves. Sometimes that means a little bath together here and there, sometimes that's a nice nap, sometimes that's going out for a walk near the outside of the church or going into town for supplies, and sometimes that is playing with the kids that frequent the church. Of course, that means more "Faust is reading after sending the kids after Oliver and he acts like he can't hear his beloved's calls for help as he's overrun by kids". Stinker.

you realize, don’t you, that they haven’t made a good muppet retelling since 1996? I understand that Jim Henson had already died at that point, but a lot of the old guard was still deeply involved. and his son directed both A Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island, and he hasn’t been involved in anything since, except in an executive producer role.

the Muppets themselves--the characters, the puppets--have a kind of magic. sure. but the fact that I haven’t seen anyone on here mention Muppets Most Wanted ever, let alone the NBC series or the Disney+ “improv” show, means that their magic has a limit. the story has to be told by somebody who gets it. the Muppet properties that we all know and love were made by a group of friends, many of whom had been working together for literal decades. you can’t just expect whoever’s calling the shots at Disney to throw Kermit and Gonzo into your favorite classic novel and create something of the same caliber, let alone with the same heart.

hate when people act all surprised (in an angry way) when some older media/reboot of older media ‘suddenly becomes woke!!!’ bc 9 times out of 10 (if not every time!!) in my experience the original media was already just Like That in the first place and they’re just now making it more explicit (because they CAN now) or people are only just now noticing.
