Jax Briggs from Mortal Kombat : cagednerd

It's just... Fun. And there are SOOOOO many awesome people in the cosplay community who are super welcoming, non judgemental and very supportive. I've worked for corporate Verizon 7 years now and it's been about 6 years since I seriously started cosplaying. It's a great temporary escape from corporate life and it allows me to express myself in many creative ways. I was ALWAYS a hardcore Mortal Kombat fan. Truth be told, I never saw many Jax cosplays around. Knightmage has a killer Jax "pun intended" but aside from him and a few others.... Johnny Kage and Sub Zeros seem to be the players of choice. So I thought... You know what, I wanna give Mr.Briggs a shot.

I couldn't find any custom Jax arms on the internet, but I DID come across a digital 3Dprint for a single "Automail" arm from Full Metal Alchemist. So I contacted my friend @sivl32 from Villainous Props who helped me not only print the arms, but added enhancements "like the tubes and circuits" that differentiated them from the popular anime. After that, the arms were painted and I used a tactical vest from an old Nick Fury cosplay. Add a beret and dog tags and there you have it!

Prior to Jax, I had only really Cosplayed Luke Cage & Nick Fury. So not knowing how the arms would come across, I had no real expectations. Nevertheless, everyone seemed to love it! I traveled to NYCC with my friend @nikkigeeks who was Sonya Blade and the two of us together seemed to be a badass team up! But the ultimate Stand-Out moment was getting props from Mortal Kombat 2021 Film Jax actor Mehcad Brooks who left a comment here on IG. That was pretty awesome and validating 😁

Years ago (even before I started cosplaying) myself and fellow bartending friend Jorge Vergara started a company called PartyNerdz. We were one of the first Instagram accounts (now @thePartynerdz) to spotlight cosplayers back in 2013. So our respect for the cosplay community goes waaay back!
