Ooh. Hard question! I had to reread a couple fics I remember being my favourites. I quite like this passage from ‘Heading Home Again,’ which was a non-agere Marvel AU that I wrote a couple years back.

“Peggy was old, and her skin felt like rose petals. Her eyes were sometimes distant, and wrinkles spread from them like starbursts. Steve had never been more aware of his own body, the way that his skin was unmarked by the years he had lost. Peggy had married. She had lived a life. Steve had been frozen.”

Okay I’m gonna put this under the cut because it’s got some nsfw mentions BUT I’ve been redesigning a common fanfiction AU and I’d love to babble about it. (lots of people use the AU for nsfw fics but I think it has potential outside of that as well!)

Right so ‘omegaverse’ is a thing that exists, right? It’s a fanfiction AU where people have more animal traits. Usually, people pay most attention to sexual traits, and more specifically, they divide pairings into ‘alpha/dominant/top’ and ‘omega/submissive/bottom’.

And I think that’s silly! It’s basically just taking heteronormative binaries, making them ‘sexy,’ and then applying them to queer couples!

Soooo anyways I’ve been considering a redesign that’s more inclusive of poly or alpha/alpha, omega/omega pairs and it’s been really fun!

Betas: the pack-members, the most numerous of the ‘dynamic genders’ (alpha/beta/omega: the ‘social genders’ are male/female/etc), comprising a little over half of the population. They’re more sensitive to scents than Omegas and Alphas, and have more conscious control over their own pheromone output, usually to calm down the others. Very pack-loyal, they like having a defined family group, which can be romantic or platonic.

Alphas: the protectors, tend to be more active and are less adept at sitting still or small detail-oriented tasks. Deeply bound to their pack, but tend to choose a single mate within the group (not always, but usually). They have very blunt pheromones: anger, fear, territory marking, happiness. Very protective of everyone in their pack.

Omegas: the child-bearing gender: intersex and physically fluid, they can have children with any of the dynamic or social genders. Many omegas identify as male or female, but others don’t. They have subtler scents, able to communicate slight shifts in mood and opinions through pheromones. But they can also direct others through their scents (ie. protect, run, etc.). They’re much less pack-bound than Betas and Alphas, unless they bondmate with one of the other dynamic genders. On their own, or in Omega pairs, they drift between packs freely. They’re also more seasonal than the others, tending to nest in the winter and sun themselves in the summer.

I really wish the character customization in pokemon go was better tho. it’s been so long and all they’ve even managed is upgrading from Literally Just Recolour The Same Single Default Outfit to Now There’s Maybe Five Outfits, But You Have To Pay For Them.

And the art style for the protags is just.. so ugly. they look like default unity assets for an entirely different genre of game! And i don’t even get it cos the actual team leaders and professor have way more design thought put into them even though they’re also realistic???

Like they have these weird proportions that are SOOOO ‘default realism mobile mmorpg protag’. Its pretty impossible to make anything that looks like yourself cos you have to be Barrel Chest Man or Weird Supermodel Pose Lady. Makes no sense cos this isn’t remotely a ‘sex sells’ kind of genre! the lady is reaaaally annoying cos of that stupid perpetual pose thing. like its hard to even get a good impression of what your outfit would look like while you’re walking cos you’ve gotta stand all Hip Wildly To The Side And Feet En Pointe. And there’s barely any options to like.. wear pants or shirts with sleeves. And even when you do pick those you’re limited to only super short shorts showing loads of skin or super form-hugging leggings that literally look like you just painted your ass. And the tops are even weirder cos stuff that looks baggy in its item icon is vaccuum sealed on the character model and always has to have Perfect Melon Suction. And these aren’t even outfits that are drawn sexified or anything?? Why are they following laws of sexy american comic supermodel superheroes THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING! I ended up picking the generic Your Team here jacket just cos its the only thing with even the slightest padding to your chest/hips/arms/whatever. Like it doesnt look like a new texture drawn on the same model, there’s SOME DEGREE OF NEW OUTFIT SHAPE MODELLED. But it’s still far from a real baggy casual sort of look, and there’s nothing remotely similar for trousers. i just had to go with whichever colour options have the least detailed shading so i can’t see that weird vaccuum packed yoga pants effect on my avatar’s ass. Which is always raised higher than her goddamn hips somehow and pointing off to the left. WHO IS EVEN ABLE TO STAND LIKE THIS FOR MORE THAN TEN MINUTES? Catwalk model poses only get used for a short show, women don’t go around like that 24/7 when going to the grocery store! Seriously whyyy is the lady model so much more sexualized than the male one, the dude is still a generic Heroic Build but no form of pose AT ALL compared to her, and his outfits never stick to his skin like goddamn glue.

And man its bad for both sides too cos the dude has less clothes options for lots of stuff, but also the clothes he does have are like.. more modelled. Wow look there’s SLEEVES and COATS LONGER THAN HIS WAIST and DIFFERENT KINDS OF TROU! And no matter who you pick you can’t change anything about them aside from colours (very limited ones) and clothes (which are essentially just colours on the girl). All this time and i can’t even get a new hairstyle or different eye shape or like.. any expression on my face?? Or height or weight or age because seriously WHY is everyone a 20 something supermodel, this game isn’t even particularly ‘pokemon for adults’, its supposed to be ‘pokemon for everyone’ so wouldnt it make more sense to have a character that looks like a default that anyone can identify with? Or uhh.. has anything that reminds you of pokemon at all? And WHY ARE THE COLOURS SO LIMITED!! Most stuff either has only one colour or only the three team colours, so like.. fuck you if you like green i guess. There’s ONE SINGLE PINK CLOTHING ITEM IN THE WHOLE THING! For a game so obsessed with making the girl options unneccesarily limited in the name of ‘girly things’, you’d think they would have had more of that! It also sucks cos the default unity esque art style means that colours often.. don’t work. like all of the damn hairstyles look the same unless you pick blonde. They’re all SUPER DARK and its more like a tint on black hair instead of actual brown or red or blue. Like wow did u design that to fuck with me in particular? A friggin cocktease blue that isn’t blue? I DEMAND MY HAIR, DAMMIT! I can’t even do my NATURAL hair colour, geez!

And gahhh i’m so sad cos the legacy costume event things are the closest thing you get to actual different clothing models instead of body paint. But they’re still drawn all weird and stick to your skin way too much or have more skin showing or more of a ‘sexy’ redesign. Like wtf the rocket boots are now some sort of lady gaga style almost-at-your-ass things that contour to my precise thighs as if they were made of sellotape? And the shirt has boobsocks? And the hat is REALLY SMALL AND FLAT FOR SOME REASON? srsly why does that bug me so much, half of the hats are tiny and half of them are huge and Nothing in Between. its like they don’t know how the fuck to model a forehead under a hat, even though they pasted this damn hat over an actually modelled forehead. it looks like your whole head gets flatter! and damn i’m so mad the limited colour options mean i can’t create a good outfit to match the mimikyu hat or The One Singular Pink Hat Or Pink Anything In The Entire Game. Those two are actually big and fit your head right! And are super stylish cute! But nothing else matches unless i wanna switch to a skirt and an even more boobsocky tanktop. TANKTOPS DO NOT STICK TO BREASTS THEY ARE PRETTY MUCH DESIGNED TO BE BAGGY DAMMIT their whole point is to circulate a lot of air and thus be good for sports and stuff. Also most people tend to wear a bra under a tanktop, just sayin. I’m glad the sleeves aren’t modelled correctely, I couldn’t stand seeing sideboob in a goddamn pokemon game...

Captain America & Sergeant Barnes: RoommatesEx-Sergeant Bucky Barnes, a PTSD war vet with a metal arm and consultant chef, finally gets the courage to ask Steve Rogers to be his roommate. Instead of, you know. Asking him out or to be his Dom like a normal person.

His therapy dog Winter and human-friend Sam think it’s a terrible idea.

Ex-Captain Steve Rogers however, thinks this is an EXCELLENT idea. It’ll be a lot easier to convince the sexy recluse to be his sub this way. Now if he can only figure out how to do it subtly and not blow it….

Gimme Sugar (This is a series.)The first time Steve sees Bucky Barnes, he knows he is so fucked.

He can’t be older than 20.

Golden skin and grey eyes with sinfully long eyelashes, a chaotic nest of gelled curls on his head, wearing an almost-transparent grey t-shirt paired with impossibly tight black jeans over his endless legs. He looks up when Steve comes into the lab – summoned by Tony to check out the latest suit redesign – and bites down on his plush lower lip and smiles shyly at Steve.

Instead, here he is, in some run-down, seedy part of town, tracking down a common pickpocket.In which Steve tries to do his job as a police officer, but ends up biting off a little more than he can chew. After all, the police academy never taught him what to do when the suspect ends up handcuffing the cop, instead of the other way around…

Also I actually do really like that Silver got an androgenous design without having a “reason”. Like uuhh, what i mean is the idea of him being cutesy and ��feminine’ just cos his fashion sense is androgenous, and such. Anime tends to go all-in with the gender essentialism and be like ‘must have stereotypically gendered personality of the opposite gender’ instead of even just.. person looks like neither.. might have stereotypes of neither. And i mean in real life there are plenty of LGBT or gender non-conforming people who might be a dude with long hair who’s a tough sports fan, or a short haired girl who likes feminine hobbies or whatever. or just no correlation whatsoever between how you like to dress and what gender stereotypes you do or don’t have. Man when I was a kid I always felt weirdly pressured to enjoy sports and stop finding pet bunnies cute or else lose my ‘tomboy card’. aka the closest thing 90s era kids ahd to a conception of what being transgender is, lol. (man i wonder if i could have missed so many years of self hate if i grew up on today’s cartoons that have more canoncical non-negatively portrayed LGBT characters...)

Oh and also randomly a chance to mention how much i love Crona from Soul Eater, again! A canonical non-binary hero who’s 100% just portrayed as a normal person who exists and is nonbianyr. No overblown weird obsession with ‘uwu how sexay its a boy in a dress’ or ‘omg how weird we cant tell what gender it is’ or ‘omg stereotypical flambouyant scary gay tropes applied to a trans person who isnt really actually nonbinary but just comes off that way because this author somehow thinks that being gay and being trans are the same thing, and also that trans women are something less than full women’. And seriously Crona doesn’t have any steroetypical personality of either gender, and is a REALLY REFRESHING case of a socially anxious character being portrayed without either kind of weird gendered stereotype anime seems to have. Like the ‘uwu sexy helpless child’ if it’s a female characetr, or the ‘gross creepy nerd’ or ‘is allowed to perv on everyone because ha ha he doesnt realise he’s doing anything wrong’ version for male characters. Nah just.. shy person. Exists. Actual realism. Nothing else. kinda wish we could give more of this to the cis characters too, yknow? like seriously even nowadays we only tend to see ‘subversion! this anxious woman is actually gross and otaku instead of sexy!’ or whatever. just flipping the script instead of thinking ‘hey maybe we could write this personality like a personality instead of a pile of prewritten lines that nobody actually says in real life?’ ALSO ALSO!! I really like how Crona’s plot actually goes out of its way to subvert the idea of ‘must have a reason to be gender non-conforming’. Like there’s soooo much ‘this girl was forced to act like a boy because contrived circumstance and is really cis’ or ‘this character is just super depraved and thats why they act queer’ or ‘this character isnt human and their species is all nonbinary and thats the only reason they’re nonbinary’ or ‘this character got in a magic space rays accident that gave him a female body even though he was born cis, and him still identifying as male is thus kinda the opposite of what being trans is, yet we simulteanously use it as a chance to Talk About Why Trans Is Scary’. like the big sad twist of Crona’s plot is that they ARENT some magical created homunculus which would be an ‘excuse’ for being genderless. Its supposed to be a huge ‘holy fuck let me hug you’ moment when you find out they were actually the villain’s actual child that she experimented on as a toddler to turn them into a weapon. And like they also give a resounding no to the ‘crona identifies as genderless because they are two people in one body' thing because ragnorok is male. The actual creepy homunculus demon blood thing is the one who’s cis! Reminds me of how pissed off i get whenever people throw around the false fact that “Qus are a genderles species” in final fantasy 9. No, Quina is the only one who gets neutral pronouns, and the other two we meet of this magical fantasy species are both male. Quina is queer within the game’s world as well as ours! Also incidentally for some reason Quale was changed to female in certain european countries? I wonder why that even happened because he’s male in japanese too. Like thats an actual decision someone made, not a mistake. Maybe someone out there in the dubbing team crossed paths with my Really Weird Evidenceless Headcanon That Quan is Quale’s Ex Boyfriend and decided to pull a crusadermon censorship on him. Also that was funny because Crusadermon was a male-only species for ages in japanese, and female-only in english, so then when the japanese continuity introduced a female Crusadermon in one of the videogames it would give her an entirely different impression in the dub. Like the twist of her identity was way less surprising because we never had this perception of this species of magical robot monster as being male only. Though it was still a pleasant surprise in both versions to see a female alphamon! or transgender themes with a character who switched identity from male to female upon becoming human? it wasn’t super clear but either way she’s awesome!

whatever in summary this is my reasons for still giving redesign-silver an androgenous fashion sense whenever he’s in different outfits, even though his hairstyle got shortified. You Have Implied The Potential LGBT Relateability, You Can No Longer Remove It. Also him and gold is a really cute ship in the manga, so i can’t not see him as gay/bi/pan. Every Route Leads To LGBT For This Man, Sorry You Cannot Stop It. ALSO crona and quina are great characters also, even if they have nothing in common with silver so this post is a big ol ramble of nothing i guess New Pokemon News just made me really hyper!
