Hey so in the wake of all the Undertale anniversary hype do you guys remember last year when I posted that sunday sketch that was a big ol' Deltarune Ch2 tribute piece for its 1 year anniversary

And I said I was gonna finish it up digitally at some point

I mentioned the Milo of Croton bit from Adored in my art essay. The paragraph is about what I feel the purpose of historical artworks is. I said that I'm not really drawn to history, but when I was looking at the bust of Emperor Caracalla, I began to think about something I had read recently.

A story, written by a classics major, who waxed poetic about Milo of Croton. About masculinity and vulnerability. How other works like Crouching Venus allowed for imperfections in her form yet Milo, in his moment of agony, is still the picture of sculpted idealism. He doesn't have any flaws, no double chin, no scars, just taunt muscle, and a chiseled jaw.

With this in mind, I noted the hook of Caracalla's nose, the softness of his hair, and I wondered what had been lost in translation. I thought he looked like some idealized version of himself, but he was still once a person. That's what I said historical pieces are meant to do, they give you a physical connection to the past, and make you think 'They were real, and I'm so lucky to be a part of this.'

I thought you might like to know that your writing inspired a chunk of my essay for class. Also, good luck with your own classes, and be kind to yourself.

I'm sorry for the delay in answering this, honestly I was so blown away by it at first that I didn't know how to respond, and then I knew that I had to submit my coursework before I answered or else I wouldn't relax.

I'm still not sure what to say except this means so much to me. I can't believe you spoke about/thought about lil old me in your essay. That's the coolest thing I've ever heard and I'm in shock and awe about it. This ask is wonderful and beautiful and I'm sure that the rest of your essay is on par with it.

I hope your classes are interesting and fun! let's both be kind to ourselves eh? sometimes i do need the encouragement, so thank you for that.
