Matchmaker -- Yagi Toshinori x Male!Reader

“Pspspsps! Here, kitty kitty kitty!”

Your cat did not respond, of course. They were nowhere to be found, and you were currently making a fool of yourself. You had crawled on all fours throughout the entirety of your apartment, making every kind of kissing sound imaginable.

They had been disappearing frequently the past few weeks, but would always turn up again after a little time. They were probably exploring the neighborhood, perhaps terrorizing birds on the roof or the fire escape.

But now you want affection.

“Kitty! I will give you whatever you want if you come and love me!” you shout to your empty apartment. You were sure your neighbors could hear you, but perhaps they would understand.

When no familiar footsteps or jingling were heard, you groaned loudly. You stomped to the doorway and put shoes on. You should probably go save the pigeons on the roof.

No luck on the roof, but the pigeons were much less bold now.

You stomped back down again, grumbling, and turned the corner to see a very tall, blond man knocking on your door. You both froze, staring at the other. In his arms were none other than your bastard cat, loafing comfortably and looking at you with expectation.

“Hello,” he said awkwardly, “Is this your cat?”

You internally slapped yourself for ogling at the handsome man, walking over to him. “Yes, that’s my cat. Sorry, were they bothering you?”

“Oh, no, not at all. I am just having a few guests over and they’re allergic, and your cat likes to visit me. It’s nice to have company while I grade.”

You held your arms out for the cat, who languidly allowed themself to be deposited. The man smiled at them. Now that they were back in their dad’s arms they rubbed against you lovingly, as if they had not been sneaking out of the house.

“I’m glad to hear they haven’t been causing trouble. Do they travel via the fire escape?”

“Yes, through your window into mine. And I promise they cause no trouble at all. They don’t even step on the papers. They are very well-behaved.”

You kiss your cat between the ears. “Thank goodness. In that case, is it alright if I let them continue to visit? I work a lot and I’m glad they have a friend.”

He assured you he would love that.

“Well,” you began awkwardly, not really wanting to leave him yet. “I’ll let you finish getting ready for your guests.”

“Right.” He sounded a little hesitant as well. “I live right next door, so I’ll see you again soon.” He smiled at you, then started. “I never introduced myself. I’m Yagi Toshinori.”

You laughed it off and introduced yourself and the four-legged loaf in your arms. “It was good to meet you. Goodbye.” You wiggled your cat’s little leg goodbye and went into your apartment.

You placed the cat on the couch, where they immediately curled up for a nap.

“Hard day?” They didn’t respond, just a little twitch of the tail. You smooched their head again with an exaggerated smack. They shook their head in displeasure. “Thank you for introducing us. Even if you are breaking into his house.”

In the apartment next to yours, Toshinori still had an embarrassing amount of red on his cheeks. The adoring looks you gave your cat made you look so cute in his eyes, and he was so thankful you lived right next to him so the odds of him seeing you again were much better. Maybe the next time he saw you he would be brave enough to ask you out.
