I'm happy to be involved with the women's movement here in Barcelona as well as back in the U.S. Today I attended the STEM Women's Congress with our good friend, Carol, who is one of the organizers, at the Cosmo Caixa Museum. We are pictured above with Dr. Carmen Hijosa, one of the presenters and an entrepreneur who has created a company which converts pineapple leaf waste into a textile called Pinatex.

Carol and I got there early and it was wonderful to watch all the women (and some men) streaming in and filling the seats in the auditorium.

The hosts were very professional and presented the program in a fun and interesting way.

Many well-known companies were sponsors of the event, most of them in the field of technology, but some financial institutes also supported it.

Eva Diaz was the first presenter. She is the CEO of the STEM Women's Congress. She graduated with a degree in Information Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona with a Masters from the School of Business Management and she has had twenty years of experience in marketing and communications. She currently is the CEO of Cooking Communications, an agency she co-founded in 2014. She welcomed us all and outlined the program which was to follow.

Laia Bonet, the Deputy Mayor of Barcelona and responsible for digital transition, sports, territorial and metropolitan coordination, and international relations, also welcomed us to the conference. She is a professor at several universities, was the secretary of the government of Catalonia from 2007 to 2010, and a member of the Catalan Parliament from 2010 to 2012.

Joana Barbary, one of the directors of the STEM Women's Congress, spoke about the mission of the STEM Women's Congress. She graduated with a degree in journalism from Pompeu Fabra University and has a BA in Business Sciences from Vic University. She has worked in strategic and organizational consulting as well as being Barcelona's Counselor for Communications, Citizen Assistance, and Technology and then became the Deputy Mayor of Economic Promotion, Innovation, and Open Government. She was also the Director General for Digital Security for Barcelona.

The other presenters, most of them entrepreneurs, appeared onstage, along with children who were attending the event with their schools.

Lluis Soler, the Human Resource Director of Bureau Veritas and Mariola Martin, a Line Manager at Bureau Veritas, spoke next. Bureau Veritas is a French company specializing in testing, inspection, and certification founded in 1828. With a dedicated team of certification specialists and more than 60 accreditations, Bureau Veritas offers a wide range of customized audit and certification services across quality, health and safety, environment, and social responsibility.

Judit Garcia Borges is the Human Resources Director of the TMB, the metropolitan transit authority of Barcelona. The TMB's mission is to offer the most sustainable, equitable, and excellent integrated mass transit services possible to metro Barcelona. She spoke about their policies and programs for the attraction, training, and development of the TMB workforce.

Ingrid Rojas, who has worked for fifteen years for IBM Global Services in Spain, spoke about opportunities for women in leadership in technology companies, and specifically at IBM. Some of what she said wasn't very encouraging, such as the disappointing progress of women in upper level management and on boards of technology companies, despite an increased awareness of gender imbalance. In other words, in my opinion, the Technology Patriarchy doesn't want women there and is doing everything in its power to prevent women from achieving full equity in leadership.

However, progress IS being made, despite this lack of leadership by the males in power, because as more women move into positions of leadership they are slowly creating a more gender-balanced leadership.

IBM has been a leader in promoting equity, diversity and inclusion so it has been a good place for women to get experience in managing and moving into higher management positions.

IBM is working in elementary, middle, and high schools internationally to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion, especially for girls, through STEM programs and the "She Can" campaign.

TBA (Total Bile Acid) Introduction

Bile Acids (BA) make up 67% of the total composition of bile. They are 24-carbon steroids generated during cholesterol metabolism. They form conjugates with either glycine or taurine to form bile salts. Five of the bile acids account for more than 99% of the total population found in biofluids. The average composition in healthy individuals includes conjugates of cholic, chenodeoxycholic, deoxycholic and lithocholic acids. Bile acids are critical due to their ability to solubilize lipids by forming micelles with cholesterol, and fatty acids. Their synthesis is not only critical for the removal of cholesterol from the body but they are also needed for proper uptake of dietary lipids into the small intestine. The measurement of circulatory Total Bile Acids (TBA) therefore provides information about hepatic functions and liver diseases such as jaundice, and hepatocellular injury. TBA estimation can detect liver damage during early stages and permits patients to get treatment before hepatic damages become irreversible. In addition, bile acids participate as signaling molecules interacting with G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR), TGR5, and nuclear receptor farnesoid X receptor (FXR).

Chicken TBA (Total Bile Acid) ELISA kit Test Method

This kit was based on Competitive-ELISA detection method.

The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with target. During the reaction, target in the sample or standard competes with a fixed amount of target on the solid phase supporter for sites on the Biotinylated Detection Antibody specific to target. Excess conjugate and unbound sample or standard are washed from the plate, and HRP-Streptavidin (SABC) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then TMB substrate solution is added to each well. The enzyme -substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450nm. The concentration of target in the samples is then determined by comparing the OD of the samples to the standard curve.

So after that, a different anon came to TMB saying P has a type. This one got published. Then another one came forward, saying they could confirm said type bc they know P irl. Published. The rest wasn’t published except for TMB acknowledging that Brunette Anon (as they are known there) allowed her to share abcd, but that TMB herself won’t confirm until BA could verify themself or TMB could. That’s all really. That stopped about a month ago, TMB said BA has disappeared.

Last part: so initially I think those two anons were out to debunk some rumors that were not only going around on tumblr but other sites (like that he was dating Erin, or he was bi/gay, all that shit). While that’s no one’s business, I kinda understand that if they really know P, they wanted to set the record straight rather than letting bs unfounded rumors spread. And in fact, a forum that talked extensively about P&E got taken down after TMB posted the debunk.

I think I was aware of the whole younger brunette thing which imo that’s... a little bit less invasive bc if it’s based on just. like who we know he’s dated in the past? Continuous à nous balader dans les rues de Tokyo

Après Shibuya, nous nous sommes rendons du côté du Tokyo Metropolitan Building, autrement dit la mairie de Tokyo. Une fois de plus, des immeubles immenses ! Et une foule de salary men / women !

Le TMB offre aux visiteurs la possible de monter au 46eme étage des tours Sud et Nord (bon la sud est fermée pour le moment) et de voir la ville de haut, le tout gratuitement. Une occasion en or pour découvrir la ville ! (De nouveau)

Pour finir cette journée nous réalisons une balade dans le quartier de Kabuchiko, réputé un peu chaud (et c’est le cas...) mais totalement dépaysant !

Petite rue coincée près des lignes de rails, où s’aligne des mini-restaurants de brochettes au barbecue. Entre le comptoir sur la photo de droite et le mur, juste la place d’un tabouret !

Dans Kabukicho et ses rues très colorés et bruyantes !

Pour notre dernière matinée à Tokyo, visite d’Akihabara (Akiba pour les intimes), le temple de la culture geek et otaku ! J’aurais pu rester des heures dans les boutiques de manga et de goodies en tout genre...

Les rues sont des gigantesques panneaux publicitaires !

J’ai un peu craqué quand même !

Ainsi se termine notre périple à Tokyo ! Prochaine étape : travers de l’île pour Kanazawa !

TMB5 Refuge Robert Blanc to Courmayeur

Pas pressé ce matin, je suis parti de Robert Blanc que vers 8h15, juste après le lever du soleil. À vol d’oiseau, il n’y a qu’une petite distance entre le refuge et le Col de la Seigne, 200m plus bas, où on rejoint le tracé normal du TMB. Je m’étais dit que ce serait une promenade de santé, mais sous le refuge je suis tombé sur un panneau indicateur annonçant qu’il fallait compter 3 heures pour rejoindre le col. Surprise !            En fait ce segment s’est révélé être le plus technique de tout le tour. Le sentier est en balcon, mais on monte et descend sans arrêt sur une distance de 7,3km. Et surtout, le sentier est très exigeant avec des passages compliqués pour traverser des rivières en évitant les endroits glacés et escalader des bosses rocailleuses assez hautes. Heureusement, le balisage est excellent et tous les passages difficiles sont équipés de câbles et/ou de marchepieds. Cela s’achève par l’ascension d’un mur raide dans la caillasse et les rochers instable où il faut s’agripper à des câbles sur plus d’une centaine de mètres (photo). Une fois au sommet de ce mur, le paysage s’ouvre et il ne reste qu’une descente en pente douce pour rejoindre le Col de la Seigne. Les 3 heures mentionnées étaient tout de même exagérées, en avançant lentement et prudemment il m’a fallu 2h30 depuis le refuge.               Arrivée au col, à la frontière franco-italienne on aperçoit au loin la silhouette du Grand Combin en terre valaisanne. Mais il reste bien du chemin même si les difficultés techniques sont passée. Je jette un dernier regard en arrière avant de regarder plus haut sur la gauche ou le Mont Blanc révèle sa splendeur. Encore 50 min de légère descente pour rejoindre le Refugio Elisbetta Soldini et savourer mon petit-déjeuner. Ça valait la peine de transporter du beurre d’arachide Santa Cruz jusqu’ici juste pour ce moment !                 Il restait 5 heures de marche jusqu’à Courmayeur. La descente du Val Veni comporte en fait 500 m de remontée sur les flancs du Mont Favre. Le chemin en balcon est agréable, avec de belles vues sur le massif du Mt Blanc, de beaux mélèzes dorés, et des ruisseaux resplendissants de glace. Une fois arrivé en vue du Mont Chétif, c’est le retour dans la civilisation avec des bruits de machine incessants et des ouvriers qui s’affairent à préparer les installations de ski de Courmayeur. J’aime de moins en moins les stations de ski, et pour la randonnée pédestre c’est une calamité, le paysage s’enlaidit et on perd la trace des sentiers et de leurs balises. Ayant plusieurs fois perdu mon chemin j’ai fini par prendre la piste de ski pour descendre à Courmayeur sans me poser de question. Ça tire sur les quadriceps mais c’est efficace !

           Trouvé un petit hôtel vétuste au centre de Courmayeur, avec des hôtes tout aussi vétustes mais très avenants et parfait bilingues, la Pension Venezia. Il y avait pas mal de monde en ville, on m’a dit que c’était calme mais en été et pendant la saison de ski ça doit être une vraie foire.

Cuộc khảo sát được thực hiện trong tháng qua, thu thập 38 ý kiến từ các nhà kinh tế và phân tích về 5 nền kinh tế Đông Nam Á là Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thái Lan (ASEAN5) và Ấn Độ.

Khảo sát cho thấy triển vọng của các nền kinh tế này đã xấu đi trong ba tháng qua do ảnh hưởng của Covid-19 và những hạn chế kinh doanh toàn cầu. Dự báo tăng trưởng của ASEAN5 trong giai đoạn từ tháng 4 đến tháng 6 là -7,8%, giảm 9,7 điểm phần trăm so với khảo sát trước đó vào tháng 3. Tỷ lệ tăng trưởng âm trong quý II/2020 được dự báo cho cả 5 quốc gia giảm và dự kiến sụt hơn 10% đối với Malaysia, Thái Lan và Singapore.

"Sự sụt mạnh trong quý hai phản ánh các tác động của việc phong tỏa 3 tháng từ 18/3 đến 9/6", Vincent Loo Yeong Hong của KAF Research tại Malaysia giải thích. "Nền kinh tế Thái Lan sẽ gặp khó khăn do ảnh hưởng của du lịch, xuất khẩu và phong tỏa", Panundorn Aruneeniramarn của Ngân hàng Thương mại Siam tại Thái Lan nhận xét.

Dự báo cho năm 2020 cũng như trong quý thứ ba và thứ tư, vẫn là tăng trưởng âm cho các nền kinh tế được khảo sát. Thất nghiệp đang gia tăng. Các chuyên gia mong đợi sự phục hồi trong nửa cuối năm nay, nhưng kịch bản này dựa trên điều kiện đại dịch sẽ được kiểm soát đúng cách.

"Chừng nào sự bùng phát Covid-19 ở Thái Lan được kiểm soát trong quý II thì chúng tôi hy vọng nền kinh tế chạm đáy trong quý này", ông Lalita Thienprasiddhi của Trung tâm nghiên cứu Kasikorn nhận xét.

"Một sự phục hồi mạnh mẽ" sẽ được "nhìn thấy vào năm 2021 nếu đại dịch được ngăn chặn một cách hiệu quả trong năm nay", Pauline Revillas của Metrobank nói thêm về nền kinh tế Philippines.

Manu Bhaskaran của Cent Years Asia (Singapore) nhận xét rằng, hoạt động kinh tế toàn cầu phục hồi từ quý III và mạnh mẽ hơn trong quý IV/2020...miễn là các làn sóng bùng phát tiếp theo được ngăn chặn tốt.

Ngoài đại dịch, các nhà kinh tế coi quan hệ Mỹ- Trung cũng là nhân tố ảnh hưởng đến các nền kinh tế này. "Căng thẳng thương mại Mỹ-Trung đã nóng lại khi Trung Quốc tăng cường kiểm soát với Hong Kong, sẽ ảnh hưởng đến thị trường tài chính cũng như thương mại toàn cầu", Wan Suhaimie của Ngân hàng Đầu tư Kenanga In tại Malaysia nhận định.

Nền kinh tế của Ấn Độ được ước tính đã giảm 20,6% trong quý vừa qua. "Các biện pháp ngăn chặn và bùng phát Covid-19 do chính phủ thực hiện đã đưa hoạt động kinh tế vào bế tắc", Tirthankar Patnaik của Sở giao dịch chứng khoán quốc gia Ấn Độ nhận xét. Dự báo tăng trưởng cho năm tài khóa 2020-2021 là -5,1%, giảm 10,2 điểm phần trăm so với khảo sát trước đó vào tháng 3.

Chính phủ Ấn Độ đã công bố gói kinh tế 20.000 tỷ rupee, trị giá khoảng 10% GDP, để hỗ trợ nền kinh tế vào ngày 12/5. Chính phủ cũng bắt đầu nới lỏng từng bước phong tỏa vào đầu tháng 6/2020.

"Nguy cơ đối với tăng trưởng vẫn còn cao vì Ấn Độ chưa có dấu hiệu hạ nhiệt việc lây lan khi không có sự giãn cách xã hội và xét nghiệm ít", Punit Srivastava của Daiwa Capital Markets (Ấn Độ) nhận xét. Dự báo tăng trưởng trung bình cho năm tài khóa 2021-2022 là 6,9%, tăng 12 điểm phần trăm so với dự báo cho năm tài khóa hiện tại, nhưng nó phụ thuộc vào diễn biến đại dịch.
