Since the new chapter won't be posted for a while, herrrrre's the unedited Tsuru scene:

tw: post-torture, y'all know

For the first time in a few weeks, Fumey had stepped out on one of his top dogs. Specifically, Ruby walked in on a bawling brunette who she didn’t initially recognize with his hair down. There were horrendous wounds carved into his heart, and the floor and bed were completely coated in blood. His face was haggard. She was surprised he could sit up at all.

After a moment, the human called out to him. "Hey, Tsurugigozen?"

His crying didn't cease.

"Hey, Tsuru?"

Tears scraped away at the blood on his chin.

She waved a hand, taking another step forward. "Hey…want me to help clean you up?"

Finally, his puffy eyes shifted in her direction. He seemed to give some subtle head movement, which she wasn't sure was a nod or just his body racking with sobs, but she chose to understand this as permission to approach.

She did so slowly, watching in case he rejected. He flinched away several times as she washed the cloth over him, but allowed her to continue.

Silence held the room beneath Tsurugigozen’s whimpers. Not a single word came to Ruby’s mind for an attempt to comfort him. Her eyes locked onto whatever part she cleaned next, and she slowly made her way to his chest, eviscerated, coated in blood and substance she chose to categorize as “miscellaneous”.

The bloody towel hovered over the wound, then she slowly dabbed it on the area surrounding.

His body recoiled, and he seized her arm in a vice-grip.

Her stomach plunged. But, he did nothing further. He simply clung, pulling her hand a little closer to his tear-stained face while digging his fingers into her skin.

For a moment, she merely watched him. Then, she said, "You're…really strong, Tsuru."

His sobbing ceased, and he opened his eyes.

"To endure all this and still keep walking...you're incredibly strong."

He stared, wide-eyed, for several seconds. "...Yeah." A deranged smile spread across his face. "Yeah. That's right. That's why." Light chuckles escaped between sentences. "That's why he does this…because I'm strong. Because I'm the strongest. So, this is…" He hovered his hands before the wound. "Because I'm the strongest. That's why…"

Another pause, and his body trembled as the tears came again. "That's why…this happens…because I'm the strongest…"

Ruby moved to wipe his face. "...I don't know you well enough to know if you're the strongest, but…you're definitely very strong."

"Yeah, that's right," he repeated. "I'm the strongest. I'm the strongest."

Finally, he allowed her to clean the main wound while muttering the same words on repeat. And she allowed him to as more and more towels were dyed in his blood.
