Because he’s going to spend the semester in London as Peter Parker – not a part time superhero, just a college student. No patrol, just parties and study groups and being a normal 20 year old. He’s decided that if he tells MJ how he feels while they’re abroad, it can be a kind of test run – she’ll have a chance to see what he can be like as a boyfriend before they get back to New York. Is it a stupid way of looking at things? Possibly. But Peter likes a plan, and this is a plan he can follow.

She looks down at their joined hands, her wedding ring glinting in the light. He squeezes her hand and it feels like he’s squeezing her heart, like he’s saying I’m here, I hear you.

For all that it’s crossed her mind to leave, she’s never been able to give up on Peter Parker. She isn’t about to start now."

"She forgot about this part of relationships – the early days when you don’t spend every night together, when you try to maintain separate spaces and just go out on dates, with the occasional weekend sleepover. Despite their history, it’s only been six weeks since MJ moved back – barely a month that she’s lived in this apartment. They dated in high school and slept together through college, but that wasn’t really a relationship. Now they’re real adults, and they’re dating in a real way, and that involves a learning curve she’s not sure either of them really expected.

She’s tired of new. She wants settled and familiar."
