a solid 80-90% of my coolest craft/art/writing/making ideas come to me at the most inconvenient of times:
late at night when i am trying to sleep
in the shower
at work while im helping someone out with a thing
while i am biking or driving
when i am on a train car or bus having to stand instead of sit
tonight's inconvenient idea was for a new, different embroidery hoop that wasn't the pattern i downloaded and printed onto my dissolvable stabilizer, stuck onto fabric and mounted into a hoop (and then bought the thread for) and started on.
This idea was to do some of the images from the book of kells. I am especially fond of the very famous folio 27v which is from the gospel of matthew and depicts the symbols of the four evangelists (matthew, mark, luke and john as the man, the wingèd lion, the wingèd calf and the eagle). The one that seemed to be the least technically difficult to stitch in my mind was the wingèd calf (luke) so I cut the image out of the page in photoshop, enlarged it and printed it out. Once printed out I made a (clumsy) tracing of it onto another paper, which I'll have to refine and ink later. For now, I'd call that proof of concept.
After inking, ill probably scan it back into the computer and make a vector of it and print that vector out on the water dissovlable stabilizer to attach to my fabric. I decided to go about this route because, frankly, I'm shite at tracing things digitally with my ancient wacom tablet (and my ipad is too old to do apple pencil + procreate which would probably be better. Plus, like, I have a light box, why not use it?
As a side note I cannot draw AT ALL, but I am passable at tracing because of embroidery and because I traced stuff all the time for assignments back in primary school that we were supposed to draw stuff for if I couldn't get away with doing layer collages cut out with my x-acto knife for the project instead. (yes i was a single digit age child with an x-acto knife. my dad had an a+ parenting moment when I was like, maybe 5 and taught me how to cut out things (mostly my paper dolls) with an x-acto knife. I didn't even know how to use scissors at the time lmaooooooo. because x-actoing shit out is soooo much better, as I result i still stink at scissor cutting things.)
anyways. in case you were wondering about what the little guy im planning to embroidery looks like.... boom!
Tumblr media
he's just a little guy! medieval monks drew all kinds of fun and funky creatures and frankly, dear old irish/scottish medieval monks, im obsessed. y'all dont get me started on medieval art and illuminate manuscripts or ill be here for 100000 years. my bones will be telling you about medieval art.
the other embroidery projects that are totally still going to happen:
the sea shell pattern i downloaded. good thing i didn't have to pay for it....
a blue morpho or a paper kite butterfly.
some kind of stitch sampler
other fiber art projects:
that crocheted shawl i downloaded a pattern for a kajillion years ago
the giant blue crocheted scarf that I got about 60% of the way through making from that pound o' love yarn skein.
mending. so. much. mending.

"How do I build Faith ?"
You call Bob the Builder, OBVIOUSLY. What a DUMB *and* STUPID question. He can build *ANYTHING*. Have you not seen the show ?
***
Ok, so that was a joke. But hear me out.
***
First off, we have to be very careful not to conflate "FAITH" with "HOPE".
The distinguishing element between the two is "Time". How ? "Hope" implies a temporal separation. It implies that the fulfillment IS COMING.
"FAITH", on the other hand, "knows" that it's ALREADY HERE. There is a breathtaking difference between the two that it would behoove one to appreciate. *Hope* has a bunch of implications, like "fear", "uncertainty", and even implies a *lack* of faith. Bringing your ideals to objectivity is built on certainty. It's the dynamo that powers the whole mechanism. So we don't want to *hope*. We want to *know*. Knowing powers *Faith*.
>*And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.* (Mathew 17:20) (KJV)
So now we got dat mustard-seed faith.💥💥 💯🔥🔥💯💯 It's good. But we want something a little more grounded. We want that sturdy faith that lets us sleep well at night. So we have to build it. Why ?
Because *Faith without works, is dead.*
So now we have to get on our #sigma #boss-babe #grindset and wake up at 3:58 in the morning and do squats before even brushing teeth, and eat shit for 10 years every day , no friends, no weekends while blasting stoic-youtube.
That was also a joke. No. We don't have to do that.
"Works" and "Acts" are synonymous. We build faith by doing what Neville tells us to do. "Live in the end." Act, FROM. How do we do that ? By doing what we'd do if our wish were objectified this second.
My first post here was riddled with a bunch of examples of questions one would ask to stay in their Fulfilled state. ANYTHING you do that implies fulfillment is a "work". ANYTH💦ING. *Wipes spit* sorry
Want $200,000 ? Google an interest yielding account until you're sure what bank you're going to use. Want a Tesla ? Find electric charging stations or a nice tarp to cover it for when it rains. Want a nice apartment ? Start picking posters. Faith is built by acts that imply possession. There's this idea that if you're down to your last dime, you need to spend it, to show how strong your faith is. NO. RELAX. OK. DONT DO THAT. Neville still had to serve in the military for a while even after his SATS put him back home in NYC. Be smart, folks.
Anything you do from premises of fulfilment is a *work*. The worst thing we do is we do what were called to do, but then sit there and wait for it. This Almost always fails because of the "Amazon effect." The second you click order, you're at your window WAITING for the DHL asshole. (Those ppl work hard..be nice. Tip well. I'm jk ok) You order an ipad ? Don't wait for it. Start looking for a nice case. A screen protector. An apple pencil, because you know you want to mess around doodling with PROCREATE™.
Like my first post, these acts feed faith INDIRECTLY. You don't have to affirm of your ACTING. Some people can affirm and be fine. Someone need movement. Do works that imply fulfillment. This will further vitalize your sense of knowing, passively.
The last thing you want to do is wait and think. These two are the twin-destroyers of Faith. Think and Do from. It's the little things that add up.
This is third rant this week, and I'm gonna take a break and drink some water that I didn't drink today. That's not good when you're 35+. Please Hydrate. 🌊

Yeaaaa hard disagree with anon about procreate.... if you're used to pc programs procreate just feels like a nightmare. It just feels so lacking to me in terms of editing capabilities and even with the ones it has it is so hard to access. I've found that for a lot of people who have only/mostly used iPad for digital art they love it, but if I can just continue to use the same program I have been using for years, with my settings syncing with my pc version, im going to do that and id tell others in the same boat to do the same. I know procreate can be a great program and I've seen many people make amazing things with it but I don't feel like completely relearning how I do digital art for one program. Also the way the brush stabilizer works in procreate makes me want to cry its barely comparable to every pc program I've used (Sai, CSP, Firealpaca, medibang, ect all have essentially the same stabilizer).
Yes i agree w all of this! Im not dissing it at all, I was actually excited to try it on my sisters ipad (she uses it for graphic design work and the calligraphy brushes are perfect for her) especially since i know so many artists who work in procreate and there are so many good brushes being sold for it etc but I found it so lacking. Like id look up how to do X thing and itd either be Not Great or they just would not have that feature.
I think you can definitely enjoy and get used to it but as someone who did csp first not only could I not get with it but i also dont have the need to! You should always get acquaintanced w different programs but I like csp's functions more, and I have used it for 2 years now, so I don't have the need or want to learn a whole new program anyway. Does that make sense? Its not me being closed minded but learning procreate over csp isnt as urgent as learning csp over photoshop was
