(It's been awhile since I did a hisomachi post, and then I see this, so I'm gonna use your post as an opportunity to go for a hisomachi brainrot.)

We have to consider how similar her backstory is to Sui Ishida's Hisoka backstory. Togashi has definitely set them up as a parallel of each other.

For the longest time, Machi is the one woman who has shared a striking similarity to Hisoka in terms of life experiences and development of nen. The one woman who Hisoka never considered as a toy in his toybox or someone to be killed until his post-resurrection. The one who Hisoka has talked to as man himself, not someone going horny because of power or potential, until his resurrection. Honestly, to me, he has acknowledged her not just her power and capabilities but also as a person - seriously, she's like the only one I know of who knows about his texture surprise, his second nen ability.

Now, throughout the series, she's only been given short screen time, and I believe Togashi has been looking for an opportunity to have her shine more along with other spiders, especially also to explore deeper into her relationship with Hisoka, which he has set up back in Heaven's Arena arc. Who knows we can get more Hisoka backstory crumbs through her, as well..........

Well said. I mean, hasn't Machi been underestimated too many times? I believe that Togashi wouldn't create a character like Machi that has such strong relevance to an important character like Hisoka for no reason. Also how to leave her alive for a more interesting story plot. Not mention how she was given one scene that specifically showed that she was a talented character from childhood.
