like, i’m pretty sure tiktok has existed for longer than vine did at this point but i’m yet to actually see an “iconic” tiktok. like people always caption like “this tiktok is ICONIC” but i’ve never seen one stay in the public consciousness for any longer than the 2 minutes it appears on my timeline. i never see people quote tiktoks or like, act them out with their friends or anything, not a single tiktok i’ve seen has had any actual staying power
meanwhile i can just say like “ROAD work ahead?” and i would bet a good chunk of you have just read that in the guy’s voice. i still see people tag things like “i wish i was jared, 19″. one night at the bar where i work we started an impromptu dance party purely by saying “hi, i’m renata bliss, and i’ll be your freestyle dance teacher”
i guess brevity really is the soul of wit

Gotta say I don't like that celebrities make millions either. Anyone who makes more money than they could ever possibly spend and isn't explicitly putting that back into the community is suspect imo
I get where you’re coming from, but it’s not like these people are stealing their money or have it sitting in a bank, collecting dust. A lot of their wealth is in their assets. And yeah, there are celebrities who do stupid things with their money, but a lot of them, whatever their motives, are involved in philanthropy.

The difference between libertarianism and classical liberalslism is that libertarianism is the idea that government is should not be involved in many parts of society and they exist as both left and right leaning. The degrees of libertarianism range from removing licensing and deregulating markets (like John Stossel) to complete anarchy (like Stefan Molyneux). Classical liberalism is more about guarding and maintaining rights and liberties, believing them to be granted by a higher power.
That’s a really good way of putting it!

What's with all these people being outraged over CEOs making millions of dollars, but being perfectly fine with actors, singers, and athletes doing the same? CEOs run businesses that provide goods and services and employee people while the others do nothing but entertain.
Most celebrities pander and virtue-signal enough for the outrage crowd to focus its attention on other people’s money. But the crowd would turn its attention to those actors, singers, and athletes in a heartbeat if the CEOs were dried up.

i’ve never talked to a classical liberal before, so hi! i honestly don’t know too much about you guys, other than ben shapiro is considered one but i feel he isn’t a great representation.. can i ask for your definition of the term, how you came to your views, and your opinions on libertarianism/ libertarians? thanks~
Hi! Thanks for the great question. I’ve been offline for a while, so I’m not sure when you asked this. Sorry to have kept you waiting!
First, I don’t know that I would consider Ben Shapiro a classical liberal. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe he’s even expressed that he isn’t a classical liberal. Many of his political views can fall under classical liberalism, but I don’t consider him to be a classical liberal because of his collectivist conservative personal views regarding society. Someone like Dave Rubin would be a well-known modern example of a classical liberal.
Classical liberalism has a long, rich history, but I’ll try to make my definition as short as possible. Classical liberalism came into existence during the late 18th and early 19th centuries in response to the social changes the the industrial revolution brought. People like Locke and Smith and others made the ideas of classical liberalism well known. As simply as I can put it, classical liberalism advocates for individual liberty, laissez-faire economics, protection of natural rights, and limited government. Basically, classical liberalism values the freedom of the individual above the power of a centralized authority.
My opinion on libertarianism is pretty warm. Classical liberalism and libertarianism are very similar, their main difference being their point of origin. I do think that there’s a difference between people who call themselves classical liberals and people who call themselves libertarians, generally speaking. I know a lot of intelligent, rational libertarians who are able to deal pragmatically with people, but a lot of libertarians tend to be a little off-the-wall and willing to die on the smallest hills.
How I got to my views isn’t a very long story since I’m still really young. Basically, I was raised in an extremely socially conservative home, which lead me to rebel when I was going through my “you can't tell me what to do” phase. So I tried to be really progressive for a few years until I realized that I was really, really wrong. But I also knew that the conservatism of my parents was wrong. So as I was searching for something that could reconcile my desire for personal freedom with my desire for a responsible, sane government, I found classical liberalism, which was a perfect fit.

I whole heartedly agree. As someone who is studying political science and runs a largely political tumblr page, I obviously recognize that politics is important, but politics is not a substitute for community and meaning. We can’t live together in a civil society if politics is all there is.
I don’t know if some of you know this, but there’s more to life than politics.

I genuinely feel pity for anyone not living under an oppressive regime who believe this.
I don’t know if some of you know this, but there’s more to life than politics.

So when Anakin Skywalker was a Jedi he looked like this

But turning to the dark side changed his physical appearance. Most notably his eyes, which became yellow (a very typical Sith transformation in many species)

And while I know that Wookies are not supposed to be able to be force sensitive and therefore cannot become Jedi or Sith, all I am saying is that

…. You know?
