"(M/n)! (M/n), over here!" What was that? My thoughts were still cloudy when I was awakened from my nap on the beach. "Oh man, just leave him, can’t you see he's sleeping?" "(M/n), look!" I sat up and rubbed my eyes. My gaze wandered over the water until I could see two figures not far away from me, to whom I could assign the voices from just now. It took me a second to get on my feet. Then I stretched briefly and patted some sand off of my tweng.
Finally, I started moving to make my way to the water. The spot where the low waves reached the beach was barely a few meters away. As the waves swept over my feet, I sighed contentedly. Feeling the coolness of the ocean on my body was one of my favorite feelings. But the quiet satisfaction did not last long when the same voice from earlier called my name again: "(M/n), look what I caught!" One of my boyfriends, Lo'ak, waved his hands excitedly in the air. His fingers were clasped around a short spear, on which a fish, a little larger than his head, was wriggling impaled. "Nice catch, love!" I closed the few steps between us and patted his shoulder with a grin. "Right?" He beamed from ear to ear. He had such a way about him, his joy was just contagious. "And Aonung made fun of me because of it!" I tried to contain myself from chuckling when I noticed the little pout that had now spread across his lips. It was clear to me that he was only looking for my confirmation with his actions. And since I knew what made him tick, I didn't want to deny him the little praise. So I just leaned over and gave him a small kiss that served its purpose and put the smile back on his pretty face. "Oh, don't hold it against him, he's just jealous because he hasn't caught anything yet." I quipped. Although I had said this quietly, a second later I heard some angry mumbling. Something about how this is not true and Lo'ak being like a baby who wouldn't even catch a tadpole.
I hadn't intended to have to start this all over again and I regretted saying anything at all. The relationship between Lo'ak and Aonung was, well, let's say more often still difficult. Before Lo'ak had joined our relationship, they had become friends to some extent, but not without constantly teasing each other. I had expected it to get better since the three of us were together, but now they were constantly arguing for my attention, which of them was better at what and more unnecessary quarrels on a toddler level. This rivalry, whether playful or not, sometimes really got on my nerves, as they were both very important to me. And I wasn't their mother to arbitrate such things all the time. Sometimes I wish that everything could just be a little more tension-free. I turned to Aonung, thinking about saying something, and couldn't decide whether to apologize to him for my comment or blame him for his. However, this decision was taken away from me when Lo'ak caught me off guard by placing his spear in the water and jumping into my arms, almost causing me to fall backwards in the process. By doing so, he was successful in drawing my attention back to him.
I put my hands around his back to hold him up. "Are you proud of me?" His gaze rested intensely on my face and he gave me an expression full of joyful anticipation. For now, I buried my face in the crook of his neck so he couldn't see my amused smile. It was mean, I knew that, but somehow Aonung wasn't entirely wrong with his words. Of course, since Lo'ak was one of the forest people, he had no practice in our hunt and had to start very small. And, of course, I didn't want to dissuade him from this progress by discouraging him. "Yes, soo proud!" I muttered, fueling his ego. Aonung snorted in exasperation. "Come on, can you even call this little thing a fish? Even a baby could catch something like that!", he said spitefully with his typical challenging grin. I had learned to just ignore his cheeky comments to Lo'ak, because when I scolded them for their little fights, both of them just ended up whining. "Oh, is that so, Aonung? You don't have to say anything, because unlike you, I actually caught something! And I'm not even from here!" He stuck his tongue out at the older boy. "Guys, please!" "He started it!", came from both of them at the same time.
As always, no one took the blame. In the end, I decided to let them discuss it when else because I couldn't bear their squabbling again. So, without further ado, I just went back towards the beach, literally running away from my problems for the moment. At least in part, because Lo'ak was still clinging to my neck and now wrapped his legs around my waist so as not to fall off due to my movement. "Hey, where are we going?" he asked, confused. "I don't know. I'll just separate you from each other until you behave appropriately for your age again." I also didn't care if Lo'ak was offended by my comment now. If he were, he would simply end up somewhere in the water. I was just fed up at the moment. However, to my surprise, he just relaxed in my arms and caressed the tattoos on my shoulders with his fingers. I waited for him to say something, but he didn't.
It wasn't until I arrived at the small cave somewhere near the beach, where we often came, that he let go of my neck and dropped on his own feet. Even though I loved carrying him around, I was glad that I didn't have to hold his weight anymore as it made walking kind of difficult. "Do we want to cook the fish for dinner?" he asked softly. The fish. "Well, did you bring it with you?" We both looked at each other in expressionless realization. "We forgot the fish." I sighed. "Then we'll just eat with the others later." He nodded. But I could see a hint of disappointment on his face. "You'll catch another one tomorrow!" He nodded again. Then he reached out to me and gave me the grasping hands movement. "Cuddle?" I asked him with my head tilted to the side. Instead of giving me an answer, he simply pulled me into a tight embrace. I didn't know why he was so needy for attention today, but of course I didn't mind. "Come on, let's make ourselves comfortable." I looked around the cave. It wasn't big, but it didn't have to be. When we first found it, we put a little effort into decorating it with leaves and laying out moss to sit on, built a small fire pit from a circle of stones and that was it. It wasn't my home, but I felt almost as at home here as I did in the village. Yet this was probably because I shared this place with my boyfriends and thus connected it with them.
I chose a large moss pillow to sit on and pulled Lo'ak by the hand towards me. As he wriggled around, trying to find a position that was comfortable for both of us, I watched him. In the end, he just rested his head on my chest and pulled his legs to him like a baby. My gaze wandered over his beautiful body. His skin tone, which had a darker shade of blue than mine, his strong but delicate hands with five beautifully long fingers, the patterns on his arms, chest, torso and legs, and actually all over his body, his thin forest tail, which probably made swimming much more difficult. He wasn't just special because he looked different from my people. He was also unique in his own way. "What is it?" I looked down and saw him staring at me with his big yellow orbs. It just looked indescribably adorable. "Nothing. You're just unbelievably beautiful." I gave him a warm smile. A dark purple blush crept onto his cheeks and he quickly hid them in his hands. "Don't just say something like that, skxawng!" His embarrassment made me laugh. "And you don't hide your cute face!" Carefully, I grabbed his wrists and pulled his hands away from his face. His pupils were slightly dilated and his face still had a soft shade of purple. This sight made my face heat up as well. Without taking my eyes off him, I intertwined my fingers with his.
"Wow, now you're even cuddling without me. Lo'ak jumped when we suddenly heard a voice in the entrance of the cave. I laughed at his startled expression. Then I turned to the figure that was now approaching. The beautiful figure of my other boyfriend. He gave us a hurt look. So sad and genuine-looking that it would have convinced me if I hadn't known him so well. His arms were crossed in front of his chest and he was holding something in his hands. Could that... "You brought the fish!" Lo'ak exclaimed happily. "Yes, but I'm not giving it to you since you're shutting me out like that." Lo'ak's happy expression turned into a guilty one. "Aonung, don't tease him like that!" He huffed. "Don't tease him like that!" he imitated me in a silly voice. "Why are you babying him all day?" I stared at him and he held my gaze. "Are you actually jealous?" I asked incredulously as I slowly saw through him. "No." It sounded more like a question than an answer. That would probably never change. Why did he always want to play tough and cool to hide the fact that he needed something? No matter if it was help or attention. He never asked for it and for years I noticed how he suffered in silence when he was struggling with something. This thought made me a little sad. Not only did he think he had to behave this way, he also acted like that in front of me as if I hadn't known him all his life. I had been his friend all these years, and not so long ago I become his boyfriend. "(M/n)?"
Yeah, maybe I had stared at him for too long. "Come here, darling." I opened one arm for him while holding Lo'ak's hand with the other. He still pretended to weigh whether or not to do it, but the next second, he put the spear with the fish on it down and got on his knees to crawl up to me and curl up next to Lo'ak in my arm. "We would never leave you out, you know that, right?" I asked him, gently stroking his head with my hand. He closed his eyes and kept silent. I sighed. "I love you so much. Both of you. Can't you imagine how hard it is for me to see you arguing all the time? I know you don't hate each other and I don't want to choose between the two of you. Moments like this are just too precious. Don't you prefer that to arguing?" They were both quiet, probably too proud to say anything. "I'm sorry I made fun of your hunting skills, Lo'ak." Aonung spoke under his breath. Lo'ak turned his gaze to him. "I'm sorry I stuck my tongue out at you and mocked you for not catching anything. I know you're a great hunter!" The words of the two almost melted my heart. "(M/n), are you crying?" "No!" Suddenly, they both laughed together. "You two are impossible!" I said, giggling and shaking my head. "I know, I know." Aonung snickered. We stayed like this for a few more minutes, then the older one shifted in my arms. "As much as I enjoy this, can we get up and make a fire now? It's getting dark and I'm really hungry!"

I choose you

“Dude, are you for real?” Lo'ak hopped beside his friend, probably more excited than he was. “Yes, I passed all the tests.” (M/n) sighed but smiled, as if that wasn’t the tenth time he was asked that question today. “That’s soo cool! I mean… you’re officially an adult now, right? You’re allowed to do everything that an adult can do?” “Yes.” Lo'ak paused, thinking. “Even choosing a mate?” Of course, that was the first thing a hormone driven teenager would think about. Only for a second (M/n) stopped in his tracks, gritting his teeth at the stinging feeling that bubbled up in his chest. “Yes.” He continued walking so that Lo'ak wouldn’t notice his sudden change in mood. “But I don’t want to.”, he added after a moment of consideration.
“Huh? Why? Do you mean like for now or…?” “Probably never.”, the older boy answered his question. “But why?” Lo'ak didn’t notice how uncomfortable he made his friend with his questions, completely taken over by his curiosity. “Just like I said: I don’t want to.” Lo'ak was curious but not stupid and he took the hint of (M/n) not wanting to talk about it. “And you can hunt with the adults now?” (M/n) nodded, glad Lo'ak finally let go of the topic. He knew that the younger boy would have many more questions, but just then they arrived at the village. “I should get going now. My dad will probably want to see me.”, he excused himself. “Okay. He is the type of dad who will actually be proud of you!” He mumbled the last part to himself. “See you later!”
(M/n) lied. He knew his dad was proud of him because he had already talked to him. And just like Lo'ak he had questioned his son about choosing a mate. It annoyed him to a point where he couldn’t find words to describe it anymore. He climbed a tree, enjoying the fresh breeze of air as he ran and swung himself from one tree to another, mindlessly escaping the village and its stupid traditions. No, they weren’t stupid. He was. It didn’t take him long to reach the spot he would always come to. He didn’t even have to think about it on his way there. Carefully, he got off of the tree and sat down under it. Shivers ran down his spine as soon as his clear mind was flooded with thoughts again. Thoughts he didn’t want to think right now. He just needed a break. The wind swayed the grass in a peaceful rhythm, some creatures chirping and munching around him in the deep forest. (M/n) closed his eyes, trying to concentrate only on that. Soon his mind was clear again and he slipped into a light sleep.
Laugher echoed through the forest. (M/n) had to run awkwardly slow, like chasing a child only pretending to go at full speed. He sensed the grass and branches under his bare feet and felt free at the feeling of wind blowing his hair back. “Faster old man, come on, I’m right here!” He knew the voice but the person it belonged to was still a little too far away to see. “Hey, I’m not that old!”, he laughed, pushing some vines out of his way. He heard the fading tapping of feet on wet grass, but still no sight of any creature.
“(M/n).” He turned around at the voice that called for him. “(M/n), come here my boy.” Curiously, he followed the call, nearly forgetting the game of tag he was just playing. Just a few meters behind some trees, he saw the big statue of his father standing in a clearing. “Dad? What do you want here? What… what is going on?” The man looked at him with a warm smile. Only then he noticed the other people standing behind him. “Dad?” “Aren’t they beautiful?” (M/n) took a few steps forward, confused by the situation. There, right in front of him was a group of girls, at least twenty or more. One of them came towards him, placed a hand on his cheek and smiled, the same honey sweet smile his dad gave him seconds ago. He felt like that sweet honey was drowning him. That feeling got more intense as more and more of the women came in his direction, surrounding him, trapping him in their sweet circle of madness. “No!”, he mumbled, pushing them away from him. He shielded his body with his arms, evading every hand that reached for him longingly. “No, I don’t want any of them!”
Just as he said that, young male hunters appeared in the crowd flexing their muscles or showing off their weapons with that smile. The type of smile he hated more than anything. It was that type of smile that said “come here, I know what’s best for you”. “It’s your choice.”, his father’s voice sounded through the chaos. “Dad, make it stop. Make it stop, please dad!”, he whined, desperately trying to escape it all. “All you have to do is choose.” “Please dad, no! I don’t want to.” The crowd came closer and closer, lulling him in their sweet fake smiles. “Choose.” “You don’t understand, you don’t-“ Why wouldn’t he listen to him? “Choose!”
“Please dad, please no.” “(M/n).” “No, I can’t.” “(M/n).” “Make it stop, I can’t breathe!” His voice was nothing more than a quiet mutter. “(M/n), you can. Wake up, please!” “What?” His hand touched something soft. All he could hear was a rapid heart beat and heavy breaths. Still his ears felt like under water. “You’re drowning me!” “(M/n), please!” The voice sounded worried and somewhat far away. But it was coming closer. He felt a weight on his chest and something cold on his cheek. With a gasp for air he opened his eyes. Everything was blurry. “It was Spider! He ran away, he’s still somewhere-…” “(M/n), calm down, I’m right here!”
The weight on his chest shifted. (M/n) blinked. He still couldn’t quite grasp what was real and what was not. His hands were trembling, but he got a hold of the softness he felt earlier. And it grounded him. His heartbeat calmed and he slowly got more and more aware of his environment. He was half laying in the grass, leaning against a tree. When his eyes started to focus again, he could identify the weight on his body as a human figure. It was Spider, who had grabbed his wrist and placed his big blue hand on his small head. The boy was staring at him with huge eyes, a somewhat shocked expression on his face that faded as he realised that he had brought (M/n) back to reality. Now he just stared at him worriedly. “It’s okay, I’m right here.”, he repeated. He pressed his ear against the Na'vi’s chest, listening to his heartbeat calming down. He almost cursed the exopack that was now kinda uncomfortable and in his way, but for a matter of fact it was keeping him alive so he better shouldn’t complain.
Spider didn’t know if he should ask (M/n) what that dream was about. For the moment he was just glad that he was the one who found him, even though he didn’t like the sight of (M/n) wincing and trembling in his sleep. Also he couldn’t remember that something like that had happened before, so something must really bother him. He was ripped out of his thoughts as a pair of strong blue arms wrapped themselves around his body. Hesitantly, he propped his chin up on the big chest and raised his gaze up to (M/n), but the boy had closed his eyes again.
While Spider just lied there, not knowing what to do, (M/n) absorbed his presence with all his being. “Do you want to talk about it?”, the human asked, a hint of insecurity sounded in his voice. (M/n) opened his eyes slightly and Spider put on a crooked smile. It was warm. Really warm, not that fake honey smile that was haunting his dreams. And (M/n) felt safe. “I passed the tests.” His throat was sore. He gulped. The Na'vi boy forced a smile onto his face. It was bitter and Spider noticed. “That’s great!”, he tried restrained. “Uh-huh.” “I’m proud of you?” (M/n) sighed. Spider tried to sit up on his stomach, but the heavy arms on his back prevented him from doing so. “Sorry.”
The Na'vi lifted his arms, freeing Spider who got up just to sit back down next to him. “What’s wrong?”, he asked, looking at the other boy with observant eyes. “Nothing really. It- it’s stupid!” He laughed awkwardly. “No, it’s not. If it’s bothering you we can talk about it, maybe I can help you sort things out?” When (M/n) didn’t answer he continued with another question. “Is it what your dream was about?” A faint blush creeped up on (M/n)’s cheeks. “I told you it’s stupid!” Now it was Spider’s turn to wait for the other to go on. “It’s just- everyone is bugging me about finding a mate, now that I’m a ‘grown-up’ and I-… you know…” “Oh.”, was all he murmured in response. His foot started tapping rhythms on the floor and he shifted around uncomfortably. “And have you already found any good options?”, he added, fidgeting with his fingers. “Ooh, not you too!”, (M/n) huffed in annoyance, but he wasn’t really mad at the boy beside him. He was just avoiding his gaze. “You know I’m not going to choose any of them!”
Spider’s sweaty hands unclenched. The peak of hope he felt was immediately washed away by the amount of guilt he felt for it. “Do you mean you’re gonna tell them?” Now he was the one who avoided the other’s gaze. (M/n) lifted his hand, combing his four fingers through Spider’s dark blonde braids in thought. The boy tilted his head against his shoulder, leaning into the touch. “I don’t know. Neytiri is gonna kill you.” “No, she isn’t!”, Spider laughed, amused by (M/n)’s dramatic comment but not fully convinced by his own words. “What about your father?” “He still has my sister, so he can shut up about not having any descendants.”, he responded without really thinking about the weight of his words. Yet the human boy blushed madly at the careless comment. “I don’t want to hold you back from anything though. If I’m in your folk’s way we should- ugh!” (M/n)’s sudden movement pushed the air out of his lungs.
“They and their stupid traditions can fuck off! I’ve already chosen someone, so there’s no need for me to find a mate. Yeah, we can’t bond but who cares? I fucking love you and no one is gonna get in the way of that!” Spider stared at him with wide eyes. He had said the three words. Well, four words but he ignored the swearing in the confession. “I-I…”, he stuttered, not finding the right words to say. “Wow, okay.” Just then (M/n) realised what he had said. “By Eywa, I’m so sorry, I… I shouldn’t have said that, I know it’s too early, I didn’t mean to catch you off guard like that, I…” The boy interrupted his ramble by crawling on his lap and pressing his soft smaller lips on his. (M/n)’s eyes widened and he quickly pushed the other one away. “Spider, what are you doing?! Your mask, we’re not in the lab!”
He took the mask out of his hands and pushed it back onto his face, struggling to close it behind his head with his big fingers. Luckily Spider helped him and closed the straps with a click. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, his head spinning like crazy. But it was merely because of the high levels of carbon dioxide in the air, more because of the amount of feelings rushing through his body even though that wasn’t their first kiss. “I’m sorry!”, he said laughing. Now it was him who apologised. He couldn’t hide the wide smile that spread on his cheeks. “I just needed to kiss you so bad I couldn’t help it! And it shut you up so…” The blue skinned boy looked at him with a reproving expression but soon joined in his laughter. The whole situation was so stupid and now he was almost ashamed to have seen things so seriously before. “Does that mean you’ve chosen me?” “Of course it does, idiot!”, (M/n) chuckled. “Great, ‘cause I’d like to choose you too!” Spider buried his head in the blue chest to hide his blush. A hand gently stroked his head. “Then we’ll manage everything else.”
