I just looked at my drafts and my Tuesday/Thursday Posts I wrote up while sick and on vacation, and overall not here. And man do I have a lot of edits to do. Like a lot.
Reads slightly deranged.

Not sure if I should have changed the middle to gold now that I'm setting this up in the queue... Might be re-posting it later to compare them.

I ended up getting COVID from work. I'm still getting over its symptoms now, but I survived, so I shall write. I hope. It has been too long away from normal working conditions and obsessing over my family tree. It will take a minute, but man do I have ideas. Chaos commences.
I was gone, I am back.
May take a short bit, but I shall have more chaotic posts and random thoughts up soon. Got an entire list of de Vil content I wrote up in my notebooks while I was traveling so it shall be fun.

Things that would make sense Tuesday 004:
004. A military state of power. I think the isle being a military state with an academy that trains the kids to fight and survive with militant tactics actually could fit quiet well on the isle, and I have tried a number of different scenarios for it.
The villains are doing more than lazing about or coasting by. They had to build and craft their homes, renovate and scavenge to create their lairs. Find clothes and food. And they did it all while surrounded by other villains. Not just close friends and family. But also strangers and other beings out to make the best life for themselves first and foremost.
This introduces one of a few reasons a militant state might arise. With some many unknowns, and the need to protect themselves from each other, having a stricter environment could help to create nice clean lines for them to know when they are skirting close and or crossing a line drawn in the sand.
This also allows them to train their kids and to break any sort of advantage others might have from having them, but training them to be first for the isle, second for their blood. Which would bring another reason for the militant state.
An army. If Auradon comes to the Isle looking to claim something from the villains they wouldn't be entirely defenseless, one because they are capable, and two because they made their children capable as well.
A military state would allow the population of the isle to operate as an army of sorts, and they would all of tasks, jobs, and emotional training of a sort to some extent. Certainly more than do better, be evil. 'Love is for babies', 'trust is imaginary', 'everyone is against you', 'only I, your parent, knows best', and other things.
And these are just brushing the surface of what a militant state could look like and what benefits and plot points it brings to the table for world building.

Things that don't make sense Thursday - Part 1:
001. Maleficent banning the Evil Queen, even if the way she didn't make the most sense to me, and was highly juvenile.
002. Gangs on the isle. While I don't see the gangs quite the same way we see in the book, the idea of gangs and allies have a really unique and important role in the Isle. I wont go to far in-depth on trust right now. Gangs would operate is a "safe" environment and not to different from a found family of sorts.
003. The Isle being technologically behind. I go both ways on this in fanfiction and it largely is attributed to a few different things when you are world building the isle founding. Unless you are putting many scientists and tech experts, and Auradon losing their remaining 3 braincells, and sending their electronic garbage to the Isle, you likely wouldn't see things like phones, landline or cell, or a lot of electricity. To be honest the idea that Auradon gives them TV's and that the villains just leave up the propaganda posters, makes little sense to me.

Things that would make sense Tuesday 003:
003. Language. In all honesty, the Isle isn't likely to speak the same language as Auradon, you have several different languages all being forced into close quarters together, and they wouldn't have had translators, or magic able to assist them in communication. We could probably expect to see some sort of hybrid / monstrosity of a language develop amongst the adults that the children would become fluid in.
But at the very least Engish would not have been the ruling voice. We have Fairytales that are Germanic, French, and English. We also have several Islanders, Mongolian, Celtic, Spanish, Arabic, Cantonese, Latin, Greek, and Atlantian. We'd have the languages of the Fae, Drakonic, Goblin, Giants, Creole, and what ever else. And that's not touching on body language, hand signs, or any other contect. Including writen. Could you imagine going into runes?
Now taking all that into account. I think it would be safe to assume the descendants would know their parent's first language [mother + father], The standard form on the Isle (whatever that might be), and they could also be taught Auradonian English to an extent, because cross them not, the kids better be able to read Auradon maps if they ever got off.

Things That would make sense Tuesday 002:
002. Public Bathhouses. Plumbing is hard folks. The villains had to build homes and a lot of structures on the isle. The odds each house had a shower or bath isn't high. The same can be done with toilets and water pumps.
People could use public waste rooms, which might be plumbed, but in a centralized location, or just outhouses of sorts. They could have water pumps in strategic locations on the streets to get water by pail/bucket/cup/bottle, or some other type vessel. And most importantly, bath houses. I'm talking plumbed or otherwise.
It is a fun world building point I've used a lot, and it adds different layers to the isle characters that set them apart in a more unique way then Auradon. The human body wouldn't be something foreign to them, and nudity wouldn't equal sexual contexts in most cases. This could create awkward or clueless interactions, and even some with humor in them depending on your fancy and how the characters interact.

Things that would make sense Tuesday 001:
I liked doing Things that don't make sense so much, I figured I'd record and plot things that I could honestly see on the isle.
001. Under the ruling power(s) there exists some sort of council. With no magic on the isle, or in some cases you might exhibit limited range of magic, the villains need a balancing force in the power chain, otherwise the chance of any peace or order would not happen.
I can easily see a dual power or split isle. Whether you split it to two cities that have a neutral zone, or have the power switch like Mab and Oberon do the staff of seasons for the seat of power, this would be a really good plot point and create more definition in the isle power development.
I would still think about adding 6-10 minor powers to give voice to the people would help avoid constant war and conflict amongst the villains.

Things that don't make sense Thursday - Part 4:
016. Electricity on the Isle. Based on the book, the landscape is dying, the buildings are ramshackle and falling apart, but most importantly they built them. Honestly from the impression you get from Mal's first couple chapters in the book, you get a mix of inconsistencies. But the idea of what they do have against what they lack is a math equation with no solution at this point.
017. The isle being completely isolated. The book quotes it two ways, Mal says they get Auradon's Garbage and then a few pages later claims to get nothing from Auradon. No matter how you look at it. Auradon is still the quote-unquote good guys, and they wouldn't actually send rotting food to them, even if they basically created the Isle and locked the villains there to die slowly.
018. Back from the dead. Even by Disney standards, this is an extreme. And if were touching it, no one that came back from the dead would even remotely seem okay or stable. Their souls would be crossing the fabric of the universe, and they would never be the same as they once were. Fight me.
019. The Isle not having their own holidays or festivals. These are villains, but they aren't without beliefs or a basic understanding of the humanities. They would probably have some sort of magic festival, solstice celebrations or rituals, a season change ritual for symbolic movements through life, harvest festivals, and other religious-like beliefs and festivities. I could even believe them all taking their own moments in time and worshipping or for self-reflection. Belief is an important thing to give hope and to create a connection to situations. This does not mean they all believe in something, nor that religion would have a large economic impact or governmental impact. Their ruler is a Fae, and she would have some sort of Fayth and seasonal connection. And that doesn't mean they celebrate them as a whole either.
020. The graveyard + mausoleum. One, where did they come from? Two, Exactly how big of a mausoleum are we talking? Because I got to say, this has so many things that are wrong with it, and I can't even dig into it. But hey I'm all for some graveyard shenanigans and even entertaining a small school here, but not one to the size suggested, or at least in the way it's been suggested in the book.

Surprisingly not a de Vil post... I just was researching cultures and Disney's adaptations of stories and fairytales. And I have to say... Wow. Some things I already was aware of, others were quite fascinating to look into, and I am now in a deep dive into Aladdin. I quite often forget that Jafar was a thief in several variants of the story that I'm just super thrilled that he owns the junk shop in the canon like it is almost a touch to his roots. Honestly, I'm nearly positive it would make his skin crawl because a lot of his motivation and growth in the fairy tale is to get away from that life. And becoming Sultan was his ultimate goal to make sure it could never happen again. I still have so much to read up on, especially as I've only seen the Cartoon, and that hasn't been for a really long time. That being said, this impacts the de Vil affairs in terms of the isle and its background and growth for many fics, because the interaction of the villains and the isle as a whole would develop and intertwine with the de Vil's. So on to research, mapping, and defining isle life, culture, and worldbuilding for the fics, new and old.

Things that don't make sense Thursday - Part 3:
011. Rotting food: Auradon sending rotten food, and or the villains waiting for it to rot.
012. The barrier. We aren't given enough information about the barrier. We know the inhabitants can see out in the distance, and that it is purple. But it would also be filtering light, which would in turn affect the temperature on the isle, the wild life on the isle, the vitamin deficiencies on the isle, the weather on the isle, the day and nights on the isle.
013. The lack of consequences. The high crime and theft on the isle. These people are all villains and criminals. The kids wouldn't be stealing from hapless no bodies, and not even Maleficent would fully deter them from lashing back at Mal. Because if Maleficent favored her daughter enough to not punish her as others it would weaken her rule as well as the fact Maleficent is trapped without magic, her fear meter would be high, but not that high.
014. The classes, this also makes a nod to 007. It is a lack of potential as well as a great insult to villains and their intelligence. These are incredibly capable hardworking individuals who've given life to a bunch of raw potential. They would absolutely be thinking ahead to the future to better themselves, not wallowing and wasting away.
015. Admitting to weakness. I can't see any potential offspring of villains on an isle filled with people who target weaknesses and push at points until they hurt ever doing this, especially to strangers let alone people you wouldn't die for.
