I don't see *why* it matters if the love was there

It's not anymore. It's gone, it's over with. It has no meaning now. It's no longer important. Dead people don't matter and neither does absent love.

nothing has to survive you for it to matter. you do not have to buy your life’s purpose by creating a monument that will outlast you. if a thing was beautiful, it will always have been beautiful, even if it turns to dust. if there is nobody left who can read a language, the words on the page don’t suddenly become meaningless scribbles. if i love you and i tell you and you smile because you know, this has happened, and this will always have happened, even if i die and you die or you forget how to smile or i forget how to love you or planet earth is obliterated and our ashes are spread so far across the void of space that they will never find each other.

sure, it was only a moment. no moment is wasted just because it has passed. no moment is less real because you are not currently experiencing it right now. do you really look at the billions who were brilliantly alive on this planet and say all that life and all that love was pointless and doesn’t matter just because we cannot experience any of the moments that were so dear to them? everything that has ever mattered matters. i promise
