Sooo happy to see that this IF of you gets to have its own place to be, i still remember when i was only starting, around the end of 2021, with reading IFs on Itch and found this game. I fell completely in love with the concept, as it helped me 'flee' from a really bad state of mind.

If i hadn't read this IF, i would not be in this community and would have mist so many amazing projects of other authors.

For that i will be eternally thankfull.

This is one of those asks that I screenshot and keep to read when I need to feel warm and fuzzy and better about the game. It means so much to read that TCO, out of all the other games, was one of your first one and introduced you to IFs.

Rascia's fascination with thinks is kind of morbid. For example they are fascinated by poisonous or carnivore plants, and by animals who have a very short lifespan for one reason or another. They can narrate the most gruesome facts of life in the softest most soothing voice of theirs.

Contrary to the Chosen One, who loves plants based on their knowledge of them, Rascia is only skilled in the medicinal use. Aside from it, they rate the flowers/plants based on how pretty and how good their perfume is.

Rascia can get really defensive when someone judges them or the things they care about. They are also quite emotional though they try hard to suppress and hide their feelings. This results in hours spent crying desperately while alone not to bother anyone or let anyone see how much something bothers them.

Rascia didn't have much knowledge in cooking. Unfortunately, now that they live alone, they have lost weight because of how little knowledge and experience they have in feeding themselves.

Yes, exactly! There are no flings because before Rascia MC always prioritised their mission, never leaving space for anything else (not even friends).

Rascia is also quite special because they are probably the only person MC can tolerate and even enjoy the company of. They have also other traits (spoiler ones) that make them special for MC.

Rascia will be MC's first and last love, this bond is one of those that will last forever and never be broken. In this sense, there is even a kind of codependency between the two, because the other is all they have.

Will the italian version of the game be available again in the future? I 100% respect all of what you said in the last post, i was just curious since i first read it that way and i absolutely loved the writing❤️

If there is a request, I will seriously consider putting it up again on Itch. I think IFs in other languages need to have their space, but I am also quite self conscious of my writing (ironic, considering the English translation is full of mistakes and a bit wonky).

But as a compromise I think I could publish the game leaving comments off, to let people who want to read it enjoy it, while not stressing myself out

I'm so happy to see the demo again! I remember replaying it like a dozen times it was really good~ Yeah, maybe the only one RO is unusual for an IF but so what?? Loved the MC personality and the general atmosphere. Wait however long to read more

Aw anon, you have no idea how much this means to me❤ I too loved writing MC's personality, it's so specific and so unlike most protagonists... I think single RO games have become more... accepted now, but when I started the game you could count such IFs with the fingers of one single hand.

The origins of the game

If you are new here, or relatively new, you might not know how The Chosen One came to be.

It was 2020 and, as many other, to escape reality I started playing VNs and then IFs. Within some months, a game of my own started to take shape in my mind and then I started writing. At the time, I had absolutely zero knowledge about Twine so learning it was a slow and painful process - but worth it.

In spring 2021 I created the Tumblr blog dedicated to it, what is now my personal blog @kal-down and what was then @/the-upperworld.

The first version of TCO was full of bugs, had a colour palette that was all over the place, and, most importantly, was only written in italian. At the time, I couldn't fantom writing a full story in english, I only did small prompts about MC and Rascia on the blog or translated previews.

Then, mainly thanks to the IF authors I came to befriend on here, I decided to translate the whole demo and publish the inglish version, which became public in September 2021.

During that year's summer, I also started planning and designing what would become my most popular and loved game: The King's Hound. As I made more and more progress on it, with so much difficulty and writing fully in english for the first time in my life, TCO started to feel off.

I guess lack of popularity and interaction, perhaps due to a story featuring a single RO or perhaps due to the unpolished nature of the writing. Still, I deleted almost everything from the blog and made it my personal one, hiding the game from Itchio.

In 2022 I decided to polish the UI a bit, thanks to it you have a now playable and hopefully more aesthetically pleasing game. I also added the Interlude 1 to the game (introducing Rascia for the first time).

And now, here we are. There isn't new content available to play, progress is still very slow, but I think this game deserves a proper blog. It deserves a place to be discussed, especially since I have a published demo and even if it won't ever be popular, I hope the game resonates at least with someone. For this reason, I decided I will leave the game up and visible on Itch from now on, and that I will keep working on it even if I remain the only one interested in the project.

It was my very first IF and I don't want to be ashamed of it. Or hide it. Despite its flaws and hiccups in developement, I am proud of it.

The Chosen One is a text-based fantasy epic story where, as it often happens, you are the one chosen by the Prophecy, destined to fight in the Last War under the King. Unlike your average tale, though, you most certainly know to be the Chosen One and you have spent all your life waiting for your King's call.

You will NOT be the victim of events out of your control, nor you'll be an unwilling participant. You are not an orphan, and your family will not be slaughtered in order for you to unravel your true purpose in this world.

Oh, no. Absolutely not.

Instead, you are prepared and in control. You are powerful, more powerful than any other being that ever walked through this land, and you are ready to fulfil your destiny.

When the story begins, you are in the North, waiting. And when the call finally, finally, happens, you have to set off for the South with your Mentor, as specified in the prophecy. The Last Journey has begun.

Every interaction counts, remember that. But remember also that you are the Chosen One: you can do what you want, you have the power to forge whatever future you want for the Regions and for yourself.

LOVE INTEREST

RASCIA | The Forgotten One Healer (gender selectable M/NB/F): the colour of their skin, as well as the arcane language that litters it, marks them as kaehan, a native of the very kingdom you are prophesised to fight against. But destiny works in strange ways and maybe, after all, they were the one you needed all along. You will have to travel far before you meet them, though, and you will have to fight and to lose more that you ever thought you could shed. Because before you rise, you have to fall.

Rascia is a tall (1.79 m/5'11") person, with wavy waist length sapphire hair, a coral complexion and bright sea blue eyes. Their lean body is almost totally covered by religious silver tattoos, now rendered useless by their condition. As a result of their loss of faith, Rascia is completely colorblind.

OTHER CHARACTERS

The Mentor: they, as you, are part of the Prophecy, chosen to accompany you in the Last Journey. Your bond is... strained. You only want to be looked at with some sort of pride but all you seem to find in their eyes lately is doubt.

ASHEN | The Hero: you'll soon meet them. Remember this, though: keep your jealousy at bay before it starts consuming you.

The King: not much to say to that. They are the king of the land, you never obviously met them and their true intentions remain unknown.

FEATURES

customize your MC's name, physical appearance, gender (M, F or NB, cisgender or transgender) and preferred magic (elemental magic, enchantments, illusion magic).

play as a semi set character, with a sharp tongue and a very strong personality, but with a soft spot for plants and kind healers

choose the rune that's engraved in your skin, and choose carefully because every Region will react accordingly.

build or destroy relationships with the cast, and find, in the midst of the Last War, the only one you can truly be yourself with.

The story will be released on Itch.io chapter by chapter (with a not so accurately estimated total of 9 total chapters) and will be completely free form start to finish.
