“I said I would come,” she said, keeping her tone as light as possible, but she was distracted. She looked around the studio in disbelief. It was exactly the same as it had been when she sang earlier in the week, and the same as it had been every day for the past year. It’s exactly what she was expecting it to look like when she was bracing herself for the dark cloud to surround her like usual, but it never did.
