21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

as a fic writer, i like highlighting the how's and why's of tyler's rage and thought process. his anger and cynical nature isn't something he pulled out of thin air one day, but something he has learned to project out of his own grief and trauma.

i also enjoy writing about the different layer of his character and being able to make others see past the walls he's built and see that in his core tyler is a boy born out of love. and it's his love for his family that's keeping him together....

what i personally don't like is the uncanny way ty's character mirrors my own-- but i guess being the oldest means you're burdened with responsibilities that far exceeds your own life lol

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

#what's great about ahslyn as a character and as the mc is that she's not trying to stand out#red wrote her out to be a loner teen without making it her entire personality#sure a lot of teen mcs start off as loners who don't know how to make friends or refuse to#but what i like about ashlyn is that she's quick to adapt to her surroundings#she likes ballet but she also did combat training not because she's the overpowered mc who's good at everything#but because circumstances taught her to see the importance of knowing how to fight and to also see the appeal of dancing#she's a well rounded character that feels genuine#and not at all just an mc that used to become a symbol therefore diminishing her personality to just one or two traits (circa 2024)

also her vibe is the one i bring at any social function: meaning, i do not want to socialize.

buttercup by hippo campus and when it rains by paramore are the first two songs that come to mind!

sensitive to noise, long braids, introvert that find herself in positions of leadership during groupworks, rbf when in public places, but is also the type who would do anything for her friends (yeah she's literally someone i project to lmao)

What's your opinion on fic writer's who mischaracterize Tyler in their story?

i don't think my opinion on this topic matters anon, cause at the end of the day, fanfiction is something someone wrote in their own spare time to share with the fandom. it isn't a thesis paper subjected to be graded on and i'm literally just some random blog on the internet. do you really think i'm qualified to voice out my personal opinion on something as subjective as 'mischaracterizing a beloved blorbo in a fic'?

how a character is written in a fic isn't something we should criticize the author for, no matter if it's the worst thing you've ever had the misfortune to read with your own two eyes. even if you personally think the characters are written differently or poorly, getting mad about it or even going as far as to anonymously ask a different author for their own opinion regarding said topic isn't how you should go about it. for all you know, this could be the fist fic that author has ever written in their life..

i know it feels good to complain and rant about how an author wrote everything badly, but you have to realize that someone spent their time writing that and it could be something they actually liked. your opinion on the quality of the fic doesn't matter when the fic itself wasn't specifically written to cater to you.

and sure, i could go on and tell you about all the things i don't like reading when it comes to fics about tyler's character and how there are interpretations of him that personally give me the ick, but that isn't really productive of me to do. my answer isn't going to magically make every single fic author write tyler better (or in this case, in a way that i want them to) and again, fics are heartfelt works made by a person who liked the source material enough to create something for it. and i would rather write fics that cater to my taste than get complain about it...

i understand that it can be difficult to see that perspective when you're reading a fic that just writes your fav like they're a completely different character, but your personal opinions about the fic isn't really important bc you weren't the one who wrote it anon. and you have to remember, as the reader, you have the option to keep reading something or not.

if you didn't like how tyler was written in a fic, you have every right to click back and never think about it again. but don't spend the rest of your time stressing about how that author mischaracterized your fav, it isn't healthy and it won't make anyone feel better. it's why i prefer talking about the things that i like in this blog, and writing fics that personally make me happy instead.

and frankly, i just think it's weird to ask another fic author for their opinion on how a character is written as if i would be better when we're all just here to vibe and make silly little fics about our favs... so the next time you don't like how a fic is written, why don't you try writing one that you do like instead of complaining about it to me anonymously but that's just my opinion anon.
