OFMD Releasing the Kraken in S1 versus S2

They used Swede's siren song from the fuckery in first season to show how the murderous Kraken (Blackbeard) came back in the second season. It was a great touch.

Let's raise our glasses to Izzy and OFMD creators

I just have to get it off my chest, I understand Izzy's death came as a shock and very upsetting event for many, and a lot of people are going on and on about how he deserved a better fate and how he was not just some tool to serve someone else's story. Please try to calm down and see the bigger picture. 

It is now clear that he was always meant to die. It was foreshadowed in the first minute of the second season, a ridiculous, villain's death. Being the symbolic obstacle to Stede and Ed's happiness. 

Of course that was the wrong way for him to go. When he confessed to his crush Blackbeard he got shot by him, almost died, begged to be killed, and then he even tried to kill himself. Still didn't work. It wasn’t his time yet and that was the wrong way for him to go. When he learned that he was loved and cared for after all, just not in the way he expected, he changed. He became positive, he became forgiving. Then he stopped being miserable he started genuinely wishing for the happiness of others as well, instead of being bitter about it. His death might not have a point but his life did. He had the crew's and Ed's and even Stede's back, and they knew it. As David Jenkins stated, he played the role of a wise mentor that was passing along his life experiences to others. Then it was his time. Also, as foreshadowed, he symbolically took away Blackbeard, and opened a way for Stede and Ed as well.

A happy ending is not only walking off to sunset with a lover, taking up a new job or walking into a house of your family and petting your dog before you close the door. A good death, and a life well-lived is a happy ending. Leaving behind people that loved you is a happy ending. This was a happy ending for him. 

He lived the way he wanted, as a pirate, an infamous one that has received respect and recognition. Then he resolved the parts of his life that became problematic and toxic, he repaired the relationships

that was broken, he forgave the people he needed to forgive. After going through hell, he was basically a bubble of positivity, going around giving solid advices, encouraging people and partying. He was done. He gave the best damn speech of his life at a bar like giving his own eulogy and it was awesome. He died at the arms of the person he loved the most. 

Yes he could have had more, everyone that ever died could have had more. But he died gracefully and complete, surrounded by people he loved and cared about, knowing that they will be fine. That was his story. I am sad that he died, but he died beautifully, best you can hope for in a pirate life. And he will live on, in the hearts of the people he touched by his existence. 

Finally, never harass the creators. It is their hard work that gave us Izzy in the first place. Trust their creative process, and afterwards take it or leave it, do not harass them and try to put them in a box of your personal demands. If so, what kind of 3rd season can we even expect?

Somehow Blackbeard is the best kind of boyfriend

I mean he is supportive, protective, doesn't get jealous, is there for you emotionally... List goes on.

OKAY I know he is sorta insane, I know he is a loose cannon sometimes and I also am still hyping about the fact that our boy was "well and truly docked." so maybe my brain isn't entirely in a position to make reasonable assessment on this couple but I really wanted to give credit where it's due.

In episodes 6&7

● His first instinct was to protect Stede from physical harm when they were raided.

●He later tried to protect Stede from making a rush decision about executing a man, worrying about what that might do to him mentally, then even though he didn't agree with this decision he went to his room to get him through it (and got laid! High fives all around ehehhehe)

Up to now it was expected but then when Stede became the new hotshot in town, people surrounding and ogling him all over the place, what did he do? He didn't get jealous, he didn't sulk in a corner because he was set aside or unrecognized at times, he just simply accepted that it was Stede's turn to enjoy some glory and fame.

He gave him solid advices about good and bad kind of attention, about fans, about haters, about paparazzi and he literally stepped aside and told him to enjoy it.

He meant this support genuinely. Even though he did end up sulking in a corner eventually it wasn't menace or jealousy, it was because as much as he was happy for Stede he was worried about if Stede let all these get to his head what would happen to him or to their future.

Ever since they met, Edward was trying to change something in his life and find new meaning, as well as figure out who he really is. He tried to quit piracy or his identity multiple times. He was right to recognize that current infamous pirate Stede Bonnet would track back any improvement he managed to do on himself.

Still hoping they will find a common way of course.

David Jenkins sir, you somehow just became my favorite romance writer after Jane Austen.

I mean, like why is this so good? It is hilarious yet there are sweet relationships, and heartbreaks, there is betrayal, misunderstandings, yet no matter how traumatized or neurodivergent they are at the end they bare their souls to each other and try to talk and live their truth. I can't with this show.

Rant about Edward's mental breakdown

I just wanted to remark that even though we all observe the changes Edward is going through after he had been abandoned by Stede and sort of pushed by Izzy to succumb into this new Blackbeard persona he based on all the horrifying tales people told about him, we don't talk enough about how this was all just him feeling unloved and unlovable, and trying to prove that in the worst way possible.

He already partially admitted to that when Calico Jack showed up, telling Stede that he knew he would always figure out who he really was and leave him, because he thinks his worst is the real him. But mild and emotionally expressive Edward, or looking up to upperclassmen and wanting to fit in Edward is real him as much the umm.. naughty one?

In the last bits when he was basically torturing his crew and doing so many mindless raids and hurting countless strangers it seemed like he was testing the point they would snap. We observed well that in pirate culture when you act out of line and don't put your crew's needs first, they commit mutiny immediately. That's why no matter how intimidating Izzy tried to be they didn't listen to him for a second and they overthrown him immediately. But Edward bonded with these guys, was vulnerable in front of them, he had their respect, and sympathy after Stede left. He is a scary dude too but it was the positive bond and love they had that was really stopping people from rising against him, hoping that it would pass.

So as a depressed person who felt unworthy of being alive or loved he chose the self-fulfilling prophecy road, he did the worst stuff he can think of, and observed the point they would snap and finally rise against him, proving to himself how bad he really is. So even though it still is a psychological problem, he was not entirely insane, he knew what he was doing. I don't know what this means about him being forgivable or not.

Can't help feeling like he is my poor little meow meow still.
