Really proud of this find. Took me a little bit to wrangle it into my net and then into my little container (I set it free dont worry) to take these pictures. (so sad the last one didnt turn out right.. the macro lens is so hard..) Anyways! this is a Woodland Ground Beetle (Poecilus lucublandus), the coloration on this thing is so gorgeous. A wonderful little beetle.

REALLY fantastic and hefty looking crab spider. Do not let the image fool you! this was a very small spider. Still awesome. Always love a crab spider. I was told on iNat this spider is in the Genus Bassaniana so I'll leave it at that!!

First wasp of the year!! This is a European Paper Wasp (Polistes dominula). I was able to get a very close look at this one cause it was so cold so it was barely active. They are just such cool creatures. Moved it safely off the sidewalk and into the brush in my backyard. Sadly do not think it survived due to the extreme cold and snow that followed but I dont know how cold resistant these guys are.

A Black-legged Meadow Katydid (Orchelimum nigripes) I snuck up on. The vibrancy of this insect is soo amazing... especially in the light!

VERY up-close image of a Narrow-headed Marsh Fly! (Helophilus fasciatus). Thank you for letting me get so close, little fly! Its always such a joy to see one of these in the wild, the gold on their backs is so stunning!

Fiery skipper (Hylephila phyleus) sipping nectar from a Purpletop Vervain! (Verbena bonariensis). Or, at least that's what iNatraulist tells me! I dont know anything about flowers.

Something that’s bothering me right now: there is no video footage Anywhere on the mating ritual between brown wasp mantidflies. Wikipedia describes the whole little thing that the males do, which includes “spreading and raising their wings repeatedly while also extending and stretching their raptorial forelegs” And “The males will repeatedly do this for a few minutes before stopping and continuing if there is no response” this sounds so funny and interesting and there is no way to see it!!

Just realized I totally forgot to post my favorite find of Like. ever. American Carrion Beetle (Necrophila americana)!!!!! I happened to have been camping right next to some sort of decomposing rabbit/squirrel and knew there was a chance I would find one. I absolutely love these little guys. Images kind of stink because I didn't have my camera on me at the time.
