The Woes of Young Adulthood Chapter Nineteen: Feeding the Fire
When they made it back to their tents, Toph and Aang laid down in the grass and Sokka opened up a bag of jerky. Katara sniffed her armpit, she sweat a lot during the hike and it was pretty obvious. “I’m gonna go take a shower,” she announced and grabbed her shower carrier from the tent and made sure she had everything she needed to get clean.
“Alright, have fun,” Suki called, refilling her water bottle at the pump.
Katara used the first shower stall in the small building with the toilets and showers. As she lathered herself with aromatherapy scented soap, she hummed the tune their campsite neighbors sang that morning. When she rinsed the conditioner out of her hair, she evolved to singing all the words to ‘Girls from Ba Sing Se’ .
She stopped singing when she toweled off and got dressed. When she opened the door, the shower stall next to hers opened at the same time, and out came Zuko wearing only a pair of track pants and shower sandals, drying his hair off with a gray towel. The surprise of seeing him right after they both took a shower made Katara’s heartbeat more noticeable. They had a conversation on the hike, but now she didn’t know what to say to him. She barely managed to keep her eyes away from his bare torso. He said he didn’t practice sword fighting or Shaolin kung fu, but he must still work out often.
He brought his head up and Katara could feel annoyance growing from the smirk on his face and then her emotions sprung up even further when he spoke, “Nice singing.”
Katara felt her face heat and she glanced away from him to curb her embarrassment but looked back in time to see him put his shirt on and walk away. She waited a few moments to walk back to the campsite as well so they weren’t walking together.

The Woes of Young Adulthood ch.19 sneak peek
“Do you have any fun stories to share?” Suki asked. She poked the logs in the fire with a stick.
“Not really.” He rubbed the back of his neck.
“Tell us a joke, then,” Toph said with a grin on her face.
“Well, uh, there’s only one joke I know. My Uncle told me it.”
“What is it? Does it have to do with tea?” Aang asked.
“Yeah. I can’t remember the beginning but it ends with ‘leaf me alone. I’m bushed!’ ” Nobody laughed or even cracked a smile. Zuko frowned. “Or whatever it’s a dumb joke.”
Toph then threw her head back and cackled. “Humor clearly isn’t your strong point.” It made Katara crack a smile. Zuko’s mouth went from a frown to neutral.
With a mischievous smile, Sokka spoke. “It must have taken an oolong time for him to come up with that one.”
Everyone groaned.
Zuko finished eating. He went to grab his charger. His phone battery was low from taking pictures during the hike. Taking pictures reminded Zuko of Jin. Ty Lee said she gave Jin his number. After the way the date ended, Zuko didn’t expect her to text him.
As Zuko went to enter the tent, he bumped into Suki.
“Oops, sorry. Wrong tent,” Suki was quick to say.
“Sorry. Did you need to grab something from inside too?” He pointed inside.
“Nope! Not me!”
Zuko shrugged as she hurried away. He unzipped the tent and blinked. All of his and Aang’s stuff was cleared out of the way. On top of the only sleeping bag was Sokka. He was illuminated by lantern light. He was laying on his stomach: legs crossed and toes pointed.
He had a wildflower in his mouth.
Sokka turned his head. “Well, hello—”
At the sight of Zuko, Sokka choked. He swallowed the flower.
Zuko felt a little disturbed by the whole situation.
“Zuko! Yes! Who else would I be expecting?” Sokka spoke quickly. He sat up.
Zuko rolled his eyes. “I don’t know. Your girlfriend, maybe?” Sokka didn’t say anything.
Zuko grabbed his phone charger from his bag. “I’ll make sure Aang doesn’t come in. Just don’t be loud.” He left the tent. Sokka continued to cough up flower petals.
The chapter will be out tomorrow.

Chapter Eighteen: I Want to Break Free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self satisfied I don't need you
I've got to break free
In my fic The Woes of Young Adulthood, each chapter is titled after a song that I thought worked well with the content of each chapter, whether it be the lyrics or just the song title.
Basically if it was a coming of age indie movie or show, I feel like these songs would be played in the background during certain moments.
So now when I post each chapter, I’m going to make this a thread of those songs so that people can hear them for themselves.🖤

Or better. You know the Merlin portrait would be into it.
Having sex in the Harry Potter universe must be awkward if there are paintings in the room.

Let us all pour one out in the memory of all the fics we have lost along the way. 😣
Hello! I’ve been searching far and wide for a fic I read a while a go but I am unable to find anywhere. Here’s what I remember from the fic:
-it takes place 6th year
-it starts with Hermione discovering Lavender and Ron having sex and that same night to get rid of her grief, she starts sleeping with Draco
-they enter into a friends with benefits situation without being friends
-there is a scene where Draco takes Hermione flying on a broom and to distract her from the height, he says he’s taking her to death eaters (he’s not though)
-Lavender gets pregnant or at least has a pregnancy scare and I think Hermione might too? I’m not sure, I think it was left unfinished at that point.
I’d really appreciate the help! Thank you so much!
Anyone?
Edit: Oh :(
nestadeath: It was a fic by Kittenshift17 but I think it was deleted.

‘Let’s go together.’
‘Where should we go first?’
Jo-jo felt herself smile. She couldn’t ever tell him, but Sun-oh was really cute. She imagined him ignoring everyone around him as he sat at his desk in a different classroom and texted her. She tugged on her lower lip and looked up, but her attention was pulled back to the screen when another message from him appeared.
‘And here’s a gift for you’
She raised her eyebrows, curious as to what he meant. When the next picture came in, her jaw tilted open. Surprised, she looked away and pressed the screen of the phone against her abdomen to hide it. She made sure the students around her were all still focusing on their textbooks and paying her no attention. The coast was clear. She took a couple of shallow breaths and slowly tilted the phone back down.
The picture looked like the kind Sun-oh must have taken that morning while getting ready. It was a mirror picture with one hand holding his phone and the other in his hair and… He wasn’t wearing a shirt.

I’ve always thought that it was a terrible waste having Toph spend most of the finale having to hang in the air (completely exposed and helpless in a most terrifying way, deprived of her “sight” with nothing else than Sokka’s hand and voice to anchor her), unable to influence the fight.
But I’m coming around to this narrative choice. There is an arc and a parallel here; where the two characters who were the most stubborn about doing things alone (Toph and Zuko) are both taken out of the fight early and have to TRUST and RELY on their friend to help them (and in Toph’s case, she has to rely on a non-bender, and in Zuko’s case he has to rely on Katara, who does not get the comet power-upgrade). Neither Toph, nor Zuko has ever had a problem with throwing themselves into danger for the people they cared about, but they both had a problem with accepting help or being vulnerable. And this recitence makes sense in light of their back story.
But friendship is both about giving and receiving - and here they get to experience how much strength it gives to Sokka and Katara to be fighting for their friend (they both beat the odds). And also to get that experience - someone fights for THEM.

The Woes of the Young Adulthood Chapter Eighteen: I Want to Break Free
Katara spent part of her afternoon sitting with her feet touching the smooth rocks and slippery plants at the edge of the creek and then laid in the grass to dry her feet off, deciding to enjoy some sunbathing and cloud watching.
She was glad she brought her swimsuit so she could go swimming later. It was the white one that made her feel pretty and feeling pretty seemed like something she needed to make herself finally get over the breakup.
Thinking about Jet had become less hard, but still painful. Thankfully she hadn’t had any awkward run-ins with him on campus, she hadn’t even seen him once since the night he showed his true colors, including social media since she blocked him on everything.
“Trying to find some peace away from the musical commune?” Katara heard Suki’s voice approach her.
Katara turned her head but left the rest of her body in the laying position with her weight on her forearms to prop her up and her legs stretched out. Suki took a seat in the grass beside her, leaning back on her palms with her legs bent close to her body.
“Just enjoying the stream,” Katara looked up at Suki with her hand making a visor over her eyes.
Suki took the pair of sunglasses folded onto the collar of her t-shirt and handed them to Katara. She took in a deep breath through her nose and then opened her eyes back up when she exhaled to speak. “This fresh air is nice. It helps me remember the stress of midterms is over.”
“Yeah. At least that stress is gone.” Katara pulled a blade of grass from the ground and twisted it between her thumb and finger.
“I was going to ask about what’s up with everything. How are you doing with the breakup?”
“It’s—” Katara sighed and dropped the blade of grass. “It’s fine. I pushed my feelings about it away while I prepared for midterms and kept my focus on getting my grades up and now I just don’t understand how I’m feeling.”
“That’s unlike you.”
“I know.” She usually was pretty in tune with her emotions and when she felt them, she would feel them deeply. But these last two weeks, the most
identifiable emotion she had was feeling empty.
“Do you miss Jet?” Suki asked.
Katara knew Suki wouldn’t judge Katara for her answer, but it still felt weird. “Kind of, I miss the idea of him. I liked how he was passionate and showed interest in injustice and—”
“And his bad-boy image?” Suki teased.
Katara felt her face go pink. Again, she knew Suki wouldn’t judge her, but she still was too embarrassed to confirm it as true. “I liked that he showed interest with me right away, but there was so much about him I didn’t pay attention to, but is apparent looking back.”
Katara laid down completely on her back and kept her sightline up and away from Suki to watch the clouds in the sky above them. “Everything— getting with Jet, the party, all of it— started because I didn’t want to keep being some boring person and wanted to have a normal semester and do the type of things university students are supposed to do.”

Chapter Seventeen: Are You Bored Yet?
I can see right through your lies
I don't know where we're going
But I'd like to be by your side
If you could tell me how you're feeling
Maybe we'd get through this undefeated
Holding on for so long

The Woes of Young Adulthood ch.18 sneak peek
Zuko woke up the next morning with some sort of bad-smelling-fur-thing on his face. He sat up and the creature didn’t hop off until he shook his head. Aang’s ferret hopped down and curled up on the pillow where Zuko’s head was laying. He yawned.
He slept well. He didn’t have any bad dreams. It was surprising he hadn’t woken up during the night because of Sokka’s loud snoring.
Tucked in their sleeping bags, Aang and Sokka were still sleeping soundly. Aang was in the middle using Appa as a pillow. Although the dog was so big all three could have used him.
Sokka let out a particularly loud snore that reminded Zuko of Uncle’s sleep apnea. Sokka hadn’t talked with Zuko much, but he seemed to be at least fine with him now. He had less reason to dislike him than Katara did.
Zuko looked at the time on his phone. It read eight seventeen. He wiped his face with his hands. He got up and exited the tent. He never really wore pajamas; just work-out pants and a t-shirt, but he still reached back into the tent to grab his clothes.
He went to the structure with the toilets and showers to get changed. By the time he returned and quietly set his belongings back into the tent, he was still the only one that was awake. He must have been the only early-riser of the group.
The full chapter will be out this Friday.

OH MY GOODNESS, MY HEART! 🥰🥺😭❤️
Fanfiction is just the best isn’t it? You can go read a little drabble about your otp having a morning cuddle with a side of pancakes, and then go to a 100k full fucking space epic au that someone just wrote cause they wanted to. We have heartwretching fics, coffee shop au’s, westerns, modern fantasies, arranged marriages, medieval stories, I’m so grateful to fanfic writers for giving us stories (some better than published books) about our favorite characters to read on the daily for free.
Thank you <3

Yes, and the constant fear of possible murder is something I’ve always found sexy in my relationships.
Oh your favorite ship trope is Enemies to Lovers?
Is it that you’re so insecure about yourself that you feel like the only way someone would love you is that they see the worst parts of you first?

Here's my entry for Zutara Month Day 8: Druk! Also a late entry for Day 2: Ambassador 😅
Headcanon: Ambassador Katara sometimes walks into council meetings with a young Druk around her shoulders, just to scare the crotchety nobles a little bit 😂

Here’s my sentiments...
I was inspired by this post to write this semi-salty meta that i’ve been sitting on for a while.
So… extremely hot take: I don’t think Z/ukka fits the enemies-to-lovers trope. …Hear me out though.
I often see Z/ukkas make the unfair comparison of who forgave Zuko first as “evidence” of the better ship. And not only does that statement become invalid due to the fact that both Katara and Sokka are his friends at the end of the show, it ignores the intentional set-up and meaningful resolve of conflict between Katara and Zuko. It also overestimates how soon Sokka actually forgave him.  I’ve seen people say Sokka was the first one who accepted him (canonically disproven by the fact that it was Toph.) Not even to mention that the majority of harsh comments about Zuko in The Western Air Temple can be quoted from Sokka himself. Sokka is very pragmatic. He doesn’t immediately warm up to Zuko because of a perceived goodness or because he’s dying to be buddies with him. He accepts that Zuko is joining because of what it means for the war:
Sokka: “Hey, all I want is to defeat the Fire Lord. If you think this is the way to do it, then, I’m all for it.”
If we’re really going to be technical, Sokka doesn’t forgive or trust him until The Boiling Rock. Zuko pointed out that sneaking off on Appa isn’t very feasible, and suggested his war balloon (which only he can operate.) So in a practical sense, Sokka agreed to let him tag along because it improves the probability of the mission’s success.
When he talks to Hakoda about Zuko:
Sokka: Actually, he’s on our side now. [Cut to Hakoda, who gives his son a suspicious look.] I know. I had the same reaction. After all he’s done, it was hard to trust him. But he’s really proven himself, and I never would’ve found you without his help.
In bold that is Sokka canonically saying he had the same reaction (suspicion) when Zuko first joined. So again, Sokka’s trust wasn’t immediate.
But back to the Enemies-to-Lovers trope, the narrative just doesn’t place much weight on developing Zuko and Sokka’s relationship in an implied romantic or even friend-like way. Contrasted to Zuko and Katara, whose relationship progression had very subtle build up from the first season onward, with thematically significant scenes (most significantly, them fighting in every season finale together. S1 and S2 were against each other, but S3 they fought together, as allies.)
It’s like this quote I found:
Tumblr media
Enemies
Tumblr media
to hurtful betrayal
Tumblr media
to slow reconciliation with a greater understanding of each other
Tumblr media
to strange but solid friendship
Tumblr media
THAT’S Zutara.
Z/ukka can be a fun dynamic, but outside of The Boiling Rock, there isn’t any focus into deepening their bond, even after TBR.
Compared to, for example:
Tumblr media
Katara: Get over here Zuko! Being Part of the group also means being part of the group hugs. (this line could’ve easily been said by any other member of the group)
Or this scene:
Tumblr media
Actor!Zuko: [Pushes Actor Iroh over and walks to Actress Azula.] I hate you, Uncle! You smell, and I hate you for all time!
Katara: “You didn’t really say that, did you?” (again, any character could’ve had this line and reached out to him) This also speaks to how far their bond has come, that now, Katara can even imagine him saying something that horrible (or see him in that light.)
Tumblr media
And how that scene leads up to this one is SO important:
Tumblr media
(Again, anyone could’ve walked over and talked with Zuko, but it is Katara who actually does.)
She is the one that ultimately ends up convincing him that Iroh will forgive him and that he’s deserving of it. That’s particularly meaningful because she is the person whose forgiveness he worked the hardest to earn, the person who previously made him believe that his actions were unforgivable. It’s narratively relevant that she is there, when he is faced with a similar doubt, and it is her support that gives him the courage to enter the tent.
My point is that the enemies-to-lovers trope has narrative conflict and it has compelling angst and betrayals. It shows the progression of a bond, how the characters’ opinion of one another change from animosity to mutual trust and respect. It is seeing the other person at their best and their worst and not thinking any less of them because you see them as their whole self.
To me, the only ship that fits this criteria is Zutara.
