anti-propaganda for Marmont: How can people vote for a man who voted for Ney’s death and THEN had the audacity to offer Aglaé Ney to accompany her to go to the king where she would have begged for Ney not to be killed? That man is disgusting for this behaviour.

Fyodor Grigorevich Gogel
[no propaganda submitted]
Auguste Frédéric Louis Viesse de Marmont
a. “He has unibrows that is kinda hot”
b. “His distinctive quasi-monobrow. Good andministrator!! Excellent at administrating Dalmatia! Sad wet little man. Got fed up with Napoleon like so many other people and got shunned for the rest of his life for the way he broke up with Naps. Poor baby,,, (literally, was the youngest of the marshals). He didn't deserve it. And he tutored Napoleon II so he wasn't all bad!”

Here, another picture for our Bessi c:

Jean-Baptiste Bessières
"Jean-Bap is the closest thing we have to a cool brooding white haired anime pretty boy here, okay? He knew the powdered hair look was a classic that made him Look Good and didn’t give into the mainstream when everyone else ditched the floppy locks and pomade. And he was a regular ice queen who still had a reputation for kindness and passion, a real kuudere as the animeheads would put it, you know in private when that ice is melted he’s got some real fire going on. He’s got genuine chivalry and politeness going on unlike a bunch of these other rough losers, and Napoleon himself compared him to the good knight Chevalier de Bayard. So vote for our sexy ice queen JB!”
Elizabeth Alexeievna
a. “Pushkin had a crush on her. She was called Psyche to Alexander's Cupid and, according to the Romanovs themselves, the most beautiful (and the most unhappy) of Russian Empresses. Noted at the Congress of Vienna for her beauty and elegance, and habitually referred to as an angel.”

Louis Davout:
a. “He’s a cutie. Also, him being faithful (as far as we know) is super hot.”
Horatio Hornblower:
a. “He is the wettest soggiest boat man who hates being on a boat and hates his life but is actually very good at being a boat man and fighting Frogs. He canonically invented the shower and has a lot of other boat men hose him down every day. He has so much sexual tension going on with Lieutenant William Bush.”

This propaganda is not worth of Louis Nicolas Davout. That man was a KEEPER. He adored his second wife and was always loyal in both of his marriages (I personally don't count Thiebault's accusation of Davout cheating. That man was in Spain while the alleged accusation would have happened in either Poland or Germany.).
He divorced his first wife for cheating on him. Good for him for having standards he personally also lives by! That's attractive. He stood by his principles. That man was competent on the field (just look at Auerstedt).
Now, to return to his second wife aka. La maréchale, Aimée Davout: If you adore reading about two people genuinely trying and working through difficulties in their relationships, you will love Davout and his Aimée. These two were two introverted lovebirds, dealing with life altering experiences like the deaths of 5 of their 8 children and also managing their duties towards France and themselves.
If you read their letters, you will see that Davout dealt with the Russian campaign and getting two wounds during the battle of Borodino and that one of his highest priorities still was the health of his pregnant wife back at home. ☺💕
Vote for Davout, guys, thank you very much, hihi! 😌✨
Oh, and did I tell you about how much he adored feeding patridges? And that his Aimée did so too? c:
Oh, or that he called his wife "mon petite Aimée" and she called him "mon petit Louis"? 🥰
But now truly, bye bye! :DD

We actually do have some of her work.
While I was looking for topics for a university project of mine, I was also looking through books about the Arenenberg (aka. Hortense's exile home) and I was fortunate enough to have discovered some of her work!

I found this neat portrait of Roustam Raza made by Hortense de Beauharnais! Circa 1800s
Roustam was Napoleon’s bodyguard and valet, and Hortense was Napoleon’s stepdaughter. Roustam was an Armenian Mameluke in Egypt, originally from Tbilisi. He became employed by Napoleon during the Egypt campaign in 1799, following him back to Europe, and remained by his side until Napoleon’s abdication in 1814. He lived the rest of his life in France.

I can’t believe that we finally have a painting of unpowdered Bessières. I feel like we found a shiny pokémon.
So I came across the painting of Naps in the lepers's hospital. Having observed up close (it's helpfully hung at eye level in Chantilly) I noticed this other guy behind Napo covering his mouth and nose and holding tight onto his general. I'm wondering if there's any info on who this is supposed to be? I'd say he looks like Lannes but like is there info ?
Tumblr media
I’ve always wondered who this guy is supposed to be too, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to find an answer anywhere. It could also be that it’s not meant to be a particular individual, but just meant to emphasize Napoleon’s fearlessness in meeting the plague victims as he ignores the man’s attempt to hold him back; but there is also another version of the painting where the man’s arm isn’t around Napoleon:
Tumblr media
Sorry I couldn’t give a better answer. It honestly drives me nuts how hard it is to find this type of info regarding who’s who in Napoleonic paintings.

This is the main reason why I despise Marmont. My goodness, he didn't have to be such an ass about this and give Aglaé false hope... ☹
“Break this very gently to my dear father...”
Michel Ney’s last letter (written to his brother-in-law), and final meeting with his wife and children before his execution, as described by biographer Raymond Horricks. (Source: Marshal Ney: The Romance and the Real, Raymond Horricks, 1982, page 269)
***
The Marshal had prepared detailed instructions for him [note: Ney’s notary, Monsieur Batardy] and it was simply a question of going over certain points and then saying goodbye. Among the items which the notary took away was a letter addressed to Monsieur Monnier, his sister Marguerite’s husband, in which he stated:
My trial is finished. I am condemned to die. Break this very gently to my dear father, who is himself on the verge of the grave. Before another twenty-four hours are gone I shall appear before God, full of deep regrets over not being able to serve my country for much longer. God will know, as I have openly claimed, that I have no other feelings of remorse. Embrace my sister for me, and give my children my love. I hope they will love my own children, in spite of this terrible tragedy which has fallen upon them. Farewell. I embrace you with all the feelings of a devoted brother. The Marshal, Prince of the Moscowa. Ney.
Afterwards Michel bathed, shaved and lay down on his bed to doze before Aglaé arrived with his sons at six o’clock.
When they entered the room Aglaé screamed and fainted. The strain upon her had been considerable. His sons, now aged between twelve and three, broke into fits of weeping. Michel remained the only calm person present. When Aglaé recovered he spoke to her with great affection and tenderness on several domestic matters, and instructed his sons to protect her at all times. “Honour the name Ney,” he told them, “because I am leaving it to you without stain, and after the hates and passions of these last few days are over I believe the world will also come to remember it with honour.”
Recovering somewhat, Aglaé announced that she was setting off for the Tuileries. Marshal Marmont, she said, had promised to go with her to see the King.
Michel avoided mentioning what he already knew. That Marmont had twice in the same night voted for his death. Nevertheless he encouraged her to go, deciding that at least she would leave him with feelings of hope. Afterwards Antoinette Gamot took the boys to her home while Aglaé set off for the palace…

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, let’s talk about your posture-
Tumblr media
there are things you should be doing now to prevent yourself from starting to look like 🥀
Why does it matter? Future you would like to avoid the pain, limited motion, and fall risk that goes along with worsening posture.
What’s the focus?
1. Keep the flexibility in your spine
2. Stretch the muscles in the front
3. Strengthen the muscle in the back
Here are some simple things you can do daily while sitting and when you get up to go into the bathroom or the kitchen
Keep the flexibility by doing these repeated movements: 10 repetitions several times a day
Tumblr media
The goal is to give yourself a double or triple chin. Keep your nose pointing forward, don’t let it tip up or down
Tumblr media
Thoracic extension- use a chair with a seat back that comes up to the level of your shoulder blades. Try to bend back over the top of the chair without arching away from the seat back and without extending your neck. If the pressure from the top of the chair is uncomfortable you can place a towel there
Stretch the muscles in the front by using a door frame. This one will feel good afterwards
Tumblr media
If this isn’t enough of a stretch you can do one side at a time. If you have the right arm up step forward with the right foot and turn slightly to the left. Then do it on the other side.
Tumblr media
Strengthen the muscles in the back by squeezing your shoulder blades together for a count of 10 and then repeating 10 times. You can do this several times a day Hint: Don’t lift your shoulder blades up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are lots more exercises for strengthening your back muscles but this is a good starting point and easy to do. I like doing it while driving
Tips:
Do the best you can
If it hurts stop
Envision future you saying thank you each time you do one of the exercises

Angélique Brûlon, the first woman to receive the Légion d'honneur
Brûlon and served from 1792 to 1799 in the defence of Corsica. She initially fought disguised as a man along with her husband, but was eventually discovered to be a woman. Despite this, she had shown such valour in battle that she was allowed to remain in service. She survived her husband and was proficient with sword and dagger in hand-to-hand combat. According to her comrades; "she fought with us with the courage of a heroine... with the zeal and courage of a true republican". Napoleon III decorated her as a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honour in 1851, aged 79. She was the first woman to receive that honor. The first request on her behalf, filed by Marshal Sérurier in 1804, had not been granted.
