I have been caught for plagiarism the second time, will it appear on my transcript?
That will be the Dean’s decision to make.

My Prof emailed me that they will send my paper to Dean due to academic dishonesty/plagiarism for report and I do not know what to do. I believe I did copy and change some words . The thing is this is my second offence I did it because I really do not know how to do that report, I just applied to graduate and just waited for my grades for this term. I am scared not to graduate or worst get expelled I don't know. what to do. What will happen to me?
Hello Anon,
I’m not sure how strict the university has gotten on plagiarism issues during the pandemic, but pre-covid if someone was accused of plagiarism you would be called into a meeting at the Dean’s office and have to provide an explanation for the plagiarism accusation - basically you had the chance to defend yourself. The professor for the course is normally there as well. The Dean then decides what the penalty should be or if there should be a penalty as all. The lightest penalty is getting zero on the entire paper that you plagiarised, the worst penalty is a permanent mark on your transcript or expulsion, it all depends on the severity of the situation.
I’m assuming it will work the same way now as well, but with a virtual meeting. You will likely have to wait until your course department contacts you with further instructions.

Hello, I graduated from York in 2018 and wanted to go back for a non-degree to improve my GPA. I applied through the non-degree link on York’s website but haven’t heard anything back yet and/or have see anything when I log into the York portal. How would I know I have been accepted for the non-degree? Wondering if someone could help clear this up for me!
Hello Anon,
You should be able to see whether you’ve been accepted into the program or not on MyFile. You can also contact the Registrar’s Office directly and inquire about your application.

Hi A few weeks ago I checked my grade which got grade C, but it only shows PDG right now and received the email that a professor suspected me of PDG. I swear I did not cheat in my final exam (even though I did not finish and write random numbers in some questions). What can I do now? Can someone help me?
Hello Anon,
You can contact your professor about this or your course department, other than that you can’t do much and must await further instructions from your course department. Normally, in plagiarism situations the student will have a chance to explain their side as well.

Hi,my application for undergraduate program in economics has been accepted for fall’21 with 90 credits of degree requirements and I have already been offered 60 pre assessment credits as I am a bachelor’s degree holder in geography from India. Please advise me on how many more credits do I need to complete my program or do I need to complete all 90 credits or I can use my 60 full credits as wavier and if so can I remove general education requirements from my degree planner?
Thanks,P.
Hello P,
If you were admitted into the 3 year degree program that requires 90 credits and were granted 60 transfer credits, then you would need to complete 30 credits in order to be eligible to graduate.
It’s best to speak to an academic advisor to confirm this information.

Is one still allowed to graduate if the school goes on strike?
If you complete all your degree requirements I don’t see why you wouldn’t be allowed to graduate.
A strike will impact courses that were being taught by a professor/TA who belongs to a union that is going on strike.

Hi im on debarment warning and im sure my cumulative gpa would be just slightly under what I need. Problem (or hopefully not problem) is that one of my grades for a course still has not been released yet as of May 23. Im taking summer school now which will hopefully bring my gpa up but im worried that once my academic decision is made I will automatically be dropped from courses. But since were almost halfway through s1 would I still be dropped? It'd be great if I can continue. Thank you!
Hello Anon,
You should speak to an academic advisor about this ASAP. If you are on debarment warning and don’t meet the requirements to continue as you have exceeded 24 credits, you may still be able to continue in the summer course, but it could be a waste of money and time for you as it wouldn’t change the debarment situation.

Hi! I paid for the yfs health plan in september and I’ve graduated this may, am I still eligible to use the health plan even tho I’ve graduated? I believe it’s usually expired on August 31 but I’m confused now that I’ve graduated, but I’ve already paid. I didn’t do any health appointments during the school year because I was really busy and at least now I have my covid vaccine to I feel better to go out. Thanks for your time!
Hello there,
As far as I am aware, yes, you can use the YFS health plan until the end of August even if you have graduated.

I accidentally enrolled in a course where they said I didn't had enough prerequisites so I'll be de-enrolled. Will this affect my tuition? Will they refund me? I'm more concerned about my finances (osap) than getting de-enrolled. TYIA
This may be a late response, but yes it does affect tuition if you do not drop the course in time. You will only get refunded if you dropped the course by the refund deadline.

Hello, this is a student who have applied for October graduation - as a bachelors degree (90 credits), and I have recently noticed that my graduation status saying may graduate as “May graduate in Bachelor program. May continue in Honours.” For some reason, my current program had been automatically updated from bachelors to honours degree, so I am worried that if the system may indicate me as to continue my study as honours and won’t let me graduate this month. Is there anything I have to do?
That should be fine as long you indicated that you want to graduate in Bachelors when you applied to graduate. Normally, if you have a 5.0 GPA then you are eligible to continue in Honours even if you are graduating in Bachelors, that’s probably why it is indicating that.
You should confirm with an academic advisor just in case though.

I already took a 6 credit humanities general education course and was wondering is it possible to take two 6 SOSC general education courses instead of one 9 credit course to fulfill the requirement. I've already contacted an academic advisor regarding this but they haven't replied yet so I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this and could advise. Thank you!
Yes you could do that too, but if you already took 6 credits in HUMA why do you need 12 credits in SOSC? Normally, you need 9 credits in HUMA or SOSC.

I did bad on my midterm worth 20% nd i got 42 did i fail will i be able to makeup for it in my upcoming assignments
Yes 42% is a fail. You can still make up for that by aiming for a higher grade in the remaining components of the course.
You can use a grade calculator to figure out what grade you need to get to the final mark you want. This is the one I use now: https://thegradecalculator.com
