btw i have an hc that william's last name was rivera and jane's maiden name was doe. so like when she got married she was jane rivera and her name no longer meant nobody

and when they had john she wanted to name him john bc in some alternate universe he too would be a nobody and he too would be john doe, but in this timeline where jane and her family are free, neither of them have to be nobody anymore so it kinda meant a lot to her. like growing past the mold life made for you and carving your own life out

william uses "w. h. doe" as his writer alias as a tribute to his missing wife and her maiden name

and if cameron ever became john's guardian (because hes the closest related living family member and john is an orphan) john would be john doe, which ties back into the symbolism with the "being more than the hierarchy makes you" thing bc cameron is a normal god tier and would probably try to make john live a god tier's life. so john would be nobody
