Bro, does killer keep things that he doesn’t really need? Papyrus and Sans would 100% be BFFLs with Mario and Luigi. (However, I do think Sans favors Luigi a bit more b/c he's gentler - Mario may be a bit too aggressive sometimes for Sans's taste).

1) Mario and Papyrus go on hikes/runs together (Mario would never let Papyrus join him on an actual adventure though; he's overprotective with him as he is with Luigi (they both HATE that btw))

2) Papyrus and Luigi share pasta recipes with each other have have cooking competitions; Mario and Sans are the judges but they each vote for their own brother, so another friend has to come in and be the tiebreaker

3) Whenever M&L come to visit their world, they bring star bits with them!!

4) Sans and Luigi conducting experiments on the powerups and just being science nerds in general

5) Mario drags Sans into an ongoing "Best Big Brother" competition

6) Sans occasionally falls asleep on Mario; his fire powers makes him warm

i don't talk about her a lot but i think alphys is sooo interesting especially when we look at her character compared to asriel's character. the thing that's on my mind right now is the aborted no mercy route and how alphys says it's so clear what she should have done. mildly off topic but toby does such a good job at writing survivor's guilt but that's probably a different post for another time... it reminds me a lot of how when asriel looks back on what happened with chara he said he doesn't regret his decision anymore because this Whole Time as flowey he's been trying to go back as if he could do the Perfect Thing that would make everything Right. i think asriel and alphys are both people who are very hesitant to act until they're put in situations where they Have to do something because they're so scared to make the wrong choice or disappoint those they love... and they both spend so much time regretting their decisions. it's really touching to me that they are both able to learn how to confront what they've done and accept who they are despite everything that's happened. the other thing that really gets me is that though their character growth is spurred on by friendship, they both have to Choose to grow. alphys has to decide to tell the truth and asriel has to decide to move on. something something love and peace and friendship helps those who are troubled make the choice to grow

tldr i think alphys should be appreciated more she's a fascinating and extremely well written character. i think almost every character in ut can be a foil to asriel because of the way toby writes grief and acceptance and i think i would like to see more alphys and flowey interactions i should draw that... anyway forgive me if this is just me spitting out words i am so sick rn </3

So when I wrote down that Big Undertale Meta Post about how Sans probably doesn’t remember RESETs at all and why that’s cool - I got a lot of responses to the tune of ‘that’s probably canon but I’m still gonna enjoy Sans Remember fics because of the angst’. And, well... first I want to emphasize that those are very good and correct responses! Like ‘I acknowledge might or might not be in the text but I am also gonna explore alternative ideas Because I Enjoy Them’ is a Good Damn Position to have! Transformative Fandom is Transformative on purpose! Engage with the text and it’s various analyses but don’t let it chain your creativity or fun!

It’s just that… all of the people saying that they prefer Sans Remembering ‘for the Angst’ make me think that maybe folks are kinda ignoring the incredible angst potential of Sans NOT remembering.

My original post focused on how cool it is that Sans manages to be so on-top-of-things even though he doesn’t remember anything - but let’s not ignore the fact that this situation is also grim as shit.

Through some mysterious super-science or whatever, Sans has managed to discover that his timeline is being RESET and altered constantly (before the Player came along, Flowey had already managed to basically 100% the entire Underground) and he has no memory of what's going on and what exactly is being altered. 

He knows he might’ve gone through the same day over and over and over again thousand times but he’s simply not aware of it. It’s all the helplessness and lack of forward momentum of a classic timeloop and none of the benefits of memorizing occurrences or acquiring extra information. That’s exactly the thing that drove him into his depressive spiral.

That line always strikes me. It’s like… Sans suspects that without the meddling of capricious immortal time gods, he’d be a much happier and motivated person. But he doesn’t know for sure, because he can’t remember how he was in some distant ‘original timeline’. He is essentially fighting to avenge a version of himself that might not even be real.

Like, yes, it is very impressive and badass how well Sans trained himself to notice every tiny little hint that might indicate that a RESET happened - but it’s impressive because the deck is stacked so heavily against him. And it is very impressive and badass how Sans managed to turn his weaknesses into strengths during his Boss Battle - but it’s impressive because these are usually huge weaknesses. Trying to work to solve a timeloop that you can only infer is going on through context clues is quite a hopeless and desperate mission!

Another bit in the Sans fight that I often think about is his unique reaction if you kill him and then RESET to Fight him again.

With how skilled he is at reading expressions, Sans probably knows what that ‘weird expression’ means, he knows the Player killed him once before and is here to try again. And yet he still goes along with the same attack plan he has, the one he knows killed him in that previous timeline. Why? Because he doesn’t know where the flaw in his plan was exactly, he can’t even begin to guess. So he has no choice but to go along with the plan he knows did kill him, because that’s the only thing he has. 

You know, the thing about Sans, is that he always plays his cards very close to his chest. It’s very hard to tell what exactly he’s thinking. That’s probably why so many people do believe he remembers RESET. If any non-Flowey character remembered RESETs, only Sans would be remotely able to hide it so well. But for me? It makes me wonder how much of his Troll who Knows Too Much persona is a bit of an act as well. 

You know, Sans’ deduction requires some keen observational skills - does he ever second-guess his conclusions? Living on constant high-alert that something has been reversed or that someone knows something they shouldn’t requires fostering a lot of paranoia, and that can’t be healthy for him. Is he ever overcome with doubt on whatever something was really an indication of a timeline RESET or not? How does he feel when he realizes something horrible happened on a previous timeline (for example, his brother dying) but he doesn’t know about the context to feel sure that he can stop it from happening again? 

I also think about it in terms of his relationship to Papyrus in general. Sans tends to hide so many things from Papyrus, especially in timelines where the Player is particularly kill-happy...

In part it’s about his perception that Papyrus’ kindness and pacifism is born from naïveté and thus the only way to preserve it is to hide the cruelty and harshness of the world from him (Undyne also does that). But also, with the paranoia and helplessness Sans lives in every day - is it any wonder that he might believe that ignorance is bliss?

I do truly think it’s beautiful how fandom can experiment with cool non-canon ideas! There are probably so many great emotional angsty ideas tied up to Sans remembering RESETs! I just feel it’ll be a shame if people ignore just how dire and depressing Sans’ canon situation also is!

How would the boys react if I got down on one knee with a ring pop and proposed? And if they would accept where would they want to get married?

Nightmare gives grudging acceptance. You couldn't really go out and get a proper proposal gift, things as they are. Very well then, there's a Muffet willing to work with him for the dress, and..well, there's a very old, very far away 'verse...no one uses it much anymore. Perhaps you could get married there?

Horror accepts, and eats it, instantly, whisking you away to the kitchen to make his acceptance meal. He doesn't care where you get married, so long as his brother can come. How does a Farmtale wedding sound?

Dust...already considered you married, so you're being a little silly. But if you want a human wedding, he will indulge you. Perhaps Outertale will have you for your honeymoon?

Killer is all in. Human weddings are ridiculous. He treats the whole thing like a party, or a game, but...he proves differently after the wedding. He has a lot of fun showing you how Snowdin used to be. When things were...better.

Error isn't sure you''re serious. You have some convincing to do.

i mentioned this briefly on twitter but i really really love that flowey stays as flowey and that chara doesn't come back. as someone with ptsd it's really touching to me that the best ending is the ending where flowey has to accept that chara is gone and that he is who he is now... i feel like a lot of times loss and grief isn't handled as well as it is in undertale but flowey's case really captures it sooo well. especially with the few times we're shown that he really is healing like in the post pacifist dialogue where he begs us to let frisk live their life and that he doesn't think he could do it all again when his previous goal was to Literally Reset Everything. he goes from wanting to rewind time to be who he used to be and to relive his memories with chara but he finally learns how to let go and accept what has happened. and how in the alarm clock dialogue he seems to be spending time with papyrus given his red ribbon so he's also learning to have friends again!! for a guy who for so long has resented his decisions and blames himself for his and everyone else's grief, the fact that he is able to stay flowey, the person he is after he went through so much trauma, and heal as flowey Gets me. there's just something really touching about the fact that his trauma is still something he has to deal with but he's also able to heal in his own little ways

Underswap Asriel Headcanons

I’ve always hated how overlooked Asriel is in Underswap. I get that the MK <> Asriel swap doesn’t make much sense, but implications of this swap are fun to think about

I image Swap!Azzy to be pretty similar to his classic counterpart with two major differences. One, he’s a big fan of Alphys, and two, he doesn’t have legs.

The legs thing is inspired by one comic of Monster Kid watching Mettaton’s show and getting super excited when MTT says “Who needs arms with legs like these?” Since Napstaton loves his arms, I though it’d be a funny parallel, on top of me just trying to be original.

Swap!Asriel has prosthetic legs that Undyne made at Toriel’s request. Azzy’s pretty self-conscious about them, so he wears super long sweatpants that he trips over a lot. Swap!Asriel also plays a bigger part in the story than classic MK. He still sneaks out against his parents’ wishes, but that carries a lot more weight when you remember that he’s the prince. 

Asriel sticks a lot closer to you and basically becomes your only party member, possessing healing abilities similar to Ralsei’s. His anxiousness shows itself in his acts, especially when he has a flex off with Shyren, though he does seem to enjoy singing with Aaron. 

Alphys’ chase scenes involve Chara dragging Asriel along by the hand, with Alphys attacking a lot less out of fear of accidentally hitting the prince. Alphys, along with the additional guards patrolling Waterfall due to the prince’s absence, are under the assumption that Chara is holding the prince hostage, or at the very least manipulating him.

Alphys attempts to reason with Asriel, but the path gives out, causing Chara and Asriel to fall into the dump. The flashback plays out the same, and Chara wakes up to Asriel worriedly calling out to them. Asriel’s clothes are all sorts of messed up after the fall, basically forcing Azzy to come clean about his prosthetics. He asks Chara if they think he’s lame because of it. Chara will say no regardless of which option you chose.

Asriel becomes a bit more confident, even after the Bored Dummy insults him for having such boring magic attacks. He mentioned his love of the stars if you poked around the wishing room, but he’s now more vocal about it. He really likes Hapstablook’s poem about the stars, and he looks through Sans’s telescope, only to find that Papyrus drew on the lense with marker. A classic Papyrus Prank TM. 

After facing off against more guards, including 01 and 02, Chara and Asriel arive at the cliff. Alphys actually starts telling Chara the story of monsters before Asriel tries to sneak past with Chara, who seemed genuinely interested. The chase plays out similar to canon, only with Alphys trying to talk Asriel down. If you say just the right things, Asriel can convince Alphys to back off. If not, then the chase continues all the way to the bridge to Hotland. 

Alphys doesn’t buckle under the heat, instead grabbing Asriel. In a panic, Asriel pushes her away, right off the bridge. Alphys is now dangling above molten lava. She’s struggling to hold on, and Asriel can’t pull her up on his own.

If Chara does nothing, Alphys falls and dies. Asriel, overwhelmed by the guilt of killing his hero and his only true friend doing nothing about it, runs back to Waterfall. In many resulting Neutral routes, he is still missing. 

If Chara does help, Asriel will apologize profusely. Alphys asks one last time that Asriel stay away from the human, even though now, she seems a bit reluctant to. On more violent neutral runs, Asriel does just that, but otherwise, he stands his ground. 

Undyne is ticked off by the visitors, but she tries to be more approachable when she realizes that it’s the prince and the human. Asriel mentions seeing Napstaton’s blue prints along with the designs for his prosthetics. Undyne talks about Napstaton, who then bursts through the wall. 

Instead of TV programs, Napstaton’s encounters are them filming for their Music Videos. Each one is themed. A science song for the lab, a Halloween song, a love song (which is basically just the musical scene). Each encounter baring the first utilizes the Cyan soul, which is basically just DDR. Asriel can sing in each encounter, and he can even show up Napstaton, giving you the chance to freestyle. If you freestyle on all the previous encounters, then Asriel will (unwilling) play the part of the princess in the love song instead of Napstaton. 

Catty and Bratty are now 03 and 04, and their fight is pretty much the same as the unused encounter. Grillby is tough to reason with, as he doesn’t talk, but Asriel can help the fire monster WARM UP to you. In fact, Asriel can help you spare a lot of monsters in Hotland and the Core easier than if you were alone. Also, Asriel can cause Grillby’s attacks to become stronger/more erratic if he attacks the fire monster because fire + fire = more fire. 

In the dinner scene with Papyrus, Asriel confirms that the man behind the door is Asgore. Unlike classic Toriel, Swap!Asgore didn’t run away. He was purposely relocated to the ruins to… collect the human souls quicker. Papyrus drops a penny and takes his opportunity to stairwalk away and let you two talk.

Asriel talks about how tense things are between his parents. How tense the guards are as they walk him to ruins so he can stay with his father for the weekend. How tense his dad is when he tucks him in.

Asriel explains that he didn’t sneak out because he wanted to see Alphys, or the “stars,” or any of that. He snuck out because his parents were fighting over the phone. He needed to get out and clear his head.

Asriel chuckles at the irony. If he hadn’t been in such a bad situation, then he never would’ve met you. You, Chara, who saw him for who he was. Not “Asriel Dreemurr,” or “Asriel the prince.”

He was just Asriel. 

01 and 02 are out in the back alley selling stuff if you didn’t kill them. Nice Cream Guy puts on a glossy exterior, but Asriel can tell that the bunny man is dead inside. 

Undyne actually gives you the correct directions in the Core because she kinda wants you out of her hair. If you couldn’t tell, Hotland’s heat has made her a bit of a grump. 

At the end of the Core, you face off with both Napstaton and Hapstablook, the latter now having a robot body and going by Mettaton. Chara can help Mettaton overcome their stage fright, while Asriel can cause Napstaton to tear himself to bits similarly to classic MTT. Yes, that means that Napstaton’s question of “who needs legs with arms like these?” is directed at Asriel. Que happy goat boy sounds. 

Anyways, Napstaton has a bit of a Blooky moment before powering down, and Undyne steps in to sort everything out. While Undyne helps Mettaton calm down, Asriel and Chara ride the elevator to New Home. Asriel is the one who explains the situation with you taking the queen’s soul, though he’s even less tactful than classic Alphys.

If you killed Napstaton or Mettaton, not only would the fight end abruptly, but Asriel would lock himself in his room. Asriel would also do this if you started killing monsters after saving Alphys. 

If neither of those are true, then Asriel will follow you through the judgment hall, where all of your sins (or lack thereof) are spelled out by Papyrus, and finally, you reach the throne room. Toriel is both shocked and relieved to see her son, but when her gaze lands on Chara, she goes numb. She tells Asriel to go to his room, and after much arguing, he obliges, though not before giving Chara something.

So we all know the void form of Gaster is generally depicted as kinda goopy right? But now I’m thinking about different versions of Gaster having different textures in the void. Like are they goop like syrup or molasses, or like slime? Are they non-newtonian like oobleck? Who of the gasters, while in the void, would have the texture of silly putty?

Or what if they aren’t all goopy? Who’s just static like touching the screen of an old tv? Whose physical form would start falling away and clumping together like kinetic sand? Who is constantly pulling themself back together like iron flakes to a magnet?

It’s just neat to think about

I've always personally written Ink as someone who struggles to understand how emotions work because his personal experiences with them are far drastically different than anyone else's and so it takes him quite a long while to adapt to one or two people in particular to understand even the slightest bit of their feelings...

But also I've seen a lot of people write headcanons where Ink is exceptionally emotionally intelligent because he's spent so long observing people and studying emotions to understand what makes people work the way they do and I find that just as interesting frankly.

+ tries to make up for what he did as Flowey by doing as many good things as he can, especially for those he wronged. + he, unknowingly, was manipulated by Chara when they were growing up and has retained a plethora of self-guilt as a result. + coping with divorced parents alongside his own, unrepaired trauma from originally losing Chara has left him fairly emotionally weak and he still considers himself as a “crybaby” because of it.

Due to my schedule being all over the place, the Valentine’s event starts today!!

The theme is Blind Dates!

For this event, send in a description of the date setting (movie, dinner, stargazing, etc. Date setting can be as detailed as you want) and you’ll get paired with a random character to go on that date with! And it’s not just skeletons and elementals this time! A few of the AUs give you a chance to get matched with Undyne, Alphys, Toriel, Asgore, Mettaton, Muffet, or Napstablook!

The character will be selected with a randomizer and and after that, the date progresses the same way an ask-the-boys would. Good luck!
