hello! i'm currently trying to get back into the habit of reading and writing, so i'm hoping to use writeblr as a way to keep at it and possibly make some friends!
— about me.
✦ i'm riven, adult, nonbinary lesbian, they/them ✦ neurodivergent ✦ i love cosmic horror, religious symbolism, art, swords, the occult, and space
— about my writing.
✦ right now i'm focusing more on poetry and short stories, but i do have a few bigger projects coming ✦ i like writing stories with elaborate worldbuilding, fantasy meeting sci-fi, queer romance, eldritch entities, complicated morality, body horror, general weirdness, and, of course, angst ✦ english is not my first language. i've been writing primarily in my native tongue until recently, but i'm eager to grow and learn!
i'd really love to meet more writers and get involved in the community, so feel free to interact or drop a message!
wips under the cut!
Tumblr media
— my wips.
☣️ GODSLAYER science fantasy
when angels discover humanity, the solar system unites under the inquisition, a powerful agency dedicated to the defense of mankind. as they battle against the cosmic threat, the stars seem to shift; the universe is dying, and the angels are ravenous.
🌙 ONEIRATA dark fantasy
in a city where it’s forbidden to dream, a condemned mage is saved by the child prophesied to end the world. as the moon demands blood, he struggles to understand the choice presented to him: betray his savior and secure the sacrifice, or succumb to the cataclysm that is coming.
⛓️ A CITY ABLAZE soft sci-fi
a retelling of the prometheus myth, set in a post-apocalyptic, frozen world. in the last bastion of humanity, a young woman finds herself enthralled by the world outside; a desire that might have deadly consequences for both her and the city itself.
🦐 TIDEFALL pirate fantasy
a story where you play as the branded, a person gifted with a fraction of an old god’s power. marked by an eldritch prawn goddess, you are tasked with saving the gods from extinction. however, the crew of the pirate ship that sheltered you might have other plans.
— other.
✦ i'm excited to participate in tag games and events, but i may be slow to respond. i would still appreciate them though ✦ send me an ask or a dm to be added to a taglist!

writeblr intro/info post
Hello, I'm Isherwood J., but I usually go by Ish. I'm a 23-year-old amateur writer from Australia. I've been on writeblr since late 2020, which is also around the time I began getting interested in writing again after taking a long break. So this isn't quite an 'introduction', more of a 're-introduction', since I wanted to make a more up-to-date post about myself & my writing.
I write in a few different genres. The genres I enjoy most (both writing & reading) are horror and crime fiction, as well as speculative genres such as sci-fi and dystopian (& occasionally fantasy, although I'm less confident in this area). My three main stories at the moment are a horror story set in a haunted prison, a sci-fi story about the mysterious circumstances surrounding a man's murder, and a dark fantasy story about vampire hunters—More info on these stories later in the post. I haven't published anything and likely won't anytime soon. For now, I'm mostly trying to hone my skills and write for my own enjoyment.
I usually use this blog to talk to myself about my writing process, to take part in tag games, and to read about other people's writing. That being said, I also want to try talking to people on here a bit more often, since I haven't really been the best at that in the past.
This post got very long, so I'm putting the rest below. Please keep reading for important info/disclaimers and also a summary of my main stories if you're interested in following. If not, then goodbye, and have a nice day! :)
A few important details/disclaimers of sorts:
—IN REGARDS TO MY WRITING AND ITS CONTENT....
Pretty much all of my stories are aimed at adults and contain mature themes. However, I probably won't share any sexually explicit writing on here for now.
Related to the above point, and as you might already assume based on the genres I like, I tend to use my stories to explore a range of 'darker' subject matter, as well as subjects that aren't necessarily 'dark' but might be uncomfortable or unpleasant for some people.
I will typically warn for and/or tag more detailed depictions or discussions of disturbing subject matter, but usually not for the mention of it alone. For example, I'll put a warning if I post a graphic description of a murder, but probably not if I'm posting a snippet that just mentions murder offhand. There will likely be some exceptions to this though, I'll use my own discretion.
There are some subjects, however, that I'm not likely to tag at all due to their prevalence in the certain stories. For example, my main W.I.P., The Parousians is set in a prison, and has a pretty heavy focus on religious (specifically Christian) themes and imagery at times. These can both be uncomfortable subjects for some people to read about, but I'm not willing to tag them as I would essentially feel compelled to tag every post relating to this story, and you'd probably just be happier not following me at all if you want to avoid those particular subjects. Please keep this in mind and be careful going forward.
If you're concerned about any particular subject that you'd like me to tag, please feel free to ask. No judgment from me whatsoever, the worst thing I'll say is no, and it'll likely be for the reason I explained above (i.e. it'll be posted about so frequently/casually that you'd probably be better off unfollowing).
I also swear a lot (both in my writing and in general, lol) and won't tag this either.
—IN REGARDS TO MYSELF....
I am a little bit shy and am often dogshit at communicating online, so if I come across as cold or standoffish, please don't take it personally. It most likely has nothing to do with you and everything to do with my weird brain.
That being said, I do love taking part in tag games, and I like receiving asks/comments. I'm also fine with people DM'ing me or tagging me in any of their writing posts. So please don't feel like you're bothering me if you want to talk and/or tag me in something, because I'm not bothered at all. Worst case scenario is I'll forget to respond (I'm very sorry for this in advance—I have a terrible memory).
With all that out of the way, here are some brief summaries of the projects I am currently focusing on, and will likely post about most frequently:
THE PAROUSIANS
Horror; takes place in a fictitious Australian prison in the year 2000. Newly incarcerated Chaz Rainey arrives at Harvey Knox Correctional Centre (not-so-affectionately dubbed ‘Hardknocks’ by those intimately acquainted with it) at the cusp of an upheaval. Tensions between alliances are high, the lingering presences of three deceased men yearn for vengeance, and a torrential storm gathers on the horizon. In the midst of all this, Chaz's fate is left in the hands of the fanatical Norman Farrow, who believes the ghosts who commune with the pair of them are harbingers of the Second Coming.
TETRAPTYCH MAN
Sci-fi/Dystopian; takes place in a fictitious Australian city in the year 2089. Due to technological advancements, human memories can now be saved, deleted and exported, as easily as if they were computer files. When Gideon 'Giddy' Lanagan finds a lost memory belonging to his deceased father, it reopens a years-old mystery, prompting he and his travelling companion to seek answers. This proves difficult—with both the police and a mysterious hitman in pursuit of them.
Elsewhere in the city, prodigious memory analyst and private detective Bennet Alt reluctantly works alongside a lonesome young man to investigate the life of a recently-deceased local politician. In the process, he finds himself forced to reckon with the city's dark underbelly, as well as the long-buried pain behind his own self-enforced isolation.
[CURRENTLY UNTITLED]
Dark Fantasy/Supernatural Horror; takes place in a fictitious setting inspired by 1850's–1870's Australia. Long past his prime, an aged vampire hunter enlists the aid of a young labourer in the hunt for his final target—his daughter.
—This particular story is still in the very early research/brainstorming phase, so even though I'll talk about it a bit, I likely won't post any writing from it anytime soon.
(If you originally followed me because of a project that I haven't listed here....my condolences. I may or may not ever mention it again.)
Thank you to everyone who read this far, I realise it got a little bit long but I'd like for this post to be as clear as possible about what to expect on this blog. If you're reading this, I hope you're doing well, and if you happen to write anything you think I'd be interested in, please let me know. Bye!

Characters who are yellow coded not as in joy and optimism but, rather, yellow as in the first color the human eye will notice, plastered over hazard signs and school buses. Yellow as in a light so bright it burns. Yellow as in illness and disease, just waiting to infect. Yellow as deception, a cover up for something with teeth and claws and malice. Can anyone hear me

no one is obliged to like you and that is okay. this is why you mustn't put your self-worth in the hands of other people--you have no control over how they feel about you.
wanting your art to connect with others is the same: no one is obliged to interact with it and you have no control over whether they do or not. you must accept this. your mood can't be reliant on the decisions of others, let alone strangers--happy when you get engagement from them, sad when you get less.
I'm not saying it's selfish to want validation, attention, or connection. your feelings are real and I've FELT them. I still feel them. but other people have a choice of whether to give you those things or not, whether in everyday situations or online, and you have to accept that choice. the only thing you can control is you.
connecting, REALLY connecting with others, is about actively inserting yourself into communities you vibe with, learning the necessary skills (social or otherwise), being vulnerable, and a little luck. join a discord server or a local club. focus on specific artistic friendships. put your time and effort into those relationships, spend less time on social media, uncouple your self-esteem from your art and try your damnedest to make your own at home. that's all you can do.
