The parallels between Armin and Samwell, the two narrarators of their stories.
Both got bullied for not being able to physically defend themselves.
Both only fight when they have to.
Both enjoy books, and literature.
Both find out a lot about the evils of their respective worlds. Armin with titans. Samwell with the white walkers.
Both fell in love with 'outside' women. Gilly and Annie. (Both women actually were viewed as 'the enemy.')
Sam and Armin both have a friend who defends them constantly and 100% trusts them. (Eren and Jon.)
Both are emotional. (Not in a bad way.)
Both were thrust into roles they didn't want, or desire. Sam with being a crow and Armin in being the new commander and colossal titan.
Both have unrelenting faith in their best friends. Jon and Eren. Samwell started the wheel turning to make Jon the Lord commander. Armin believes in Erens dream in creating a better world and destroying the titans.
Both are dreamers and considered 'soft' and 'weak.'
When in all actuality they're extremely needed in their respective roles.
Both have kind hearts and care deeply for their friends.
Both fell like cowards and useless compared to other counterparts of their stories.
Annnnnd. The both of them tell us the story of their worlds, and both have dreams of normalcy and freedom. Samwell strives to beat the white walkers and to learn more about them. Armin strives to beat the titans and gain true freedom beyond walls and barriers.
imagine: Alfred found himself on his knees, lungs burning, heart and mind freezing. Is body felt numb with just the waves of pain rushing through his veins. He fell to his knees, not able to stand for another second, needing rest, feeling helplessly awful, like his soul was wandering, heading for hell. His gaze flickered upwards, a familiar shape crossed the battlefield. Alfred could swear he could hear the scream the shadow released, shattering through all the other cries, carrying a wildness so different from everything Alfred ever heard in the last few month of cold loneliness. He blinked violently and forced his blurry focus to clear up again. His heart shattered as he did so. The pain crept out of his body, leaving Alfred as a hollow shell, unable to stop staring at the silhouette right in front of him. The viking returned. There he was. Ubbe. Alfred could remember every feature.
Can we talk about the way you both pay attention to each other in this scene? Even if Ivar has a mocking attitude towards what Heahmund is telling him, he is paying attention to it and it shows on his face, just like Heahmund when Ivar tells the story of Thor and the world's serpent. Despite having different beliefs, when listening to these types of stories both are curious and it is reflected very well in their expressions. This scene reminded me a bit of how Ragnar paid attention to Athelstan when he told him these kinds of stories.
