They taught me to fear the dark, but they forgot to mention what happens in the light. 

    After hearing the stories all my life I assumed the dark was a terrible place filled with monsters and certain death, and the fact that any being who went out at night never came back just confirmed the stories, which built the fear inside of me to the point where I followed my king blindly. I became a Warrior of the Light, and I helped kill the monsters that lived in the shadows. I set fire to so many forests to smoke them out that I lost count. Thousands of lives were lost due to my actions. Thousands of lives I believed were out to slaughter me if I stepped wrong. I followed blindly, and I followed my king to my death. 

    Or so I thought.

Nothing happens. For what seems like hours to Zakkai, but in reality is only a mere few minutes, he waits as nothing happens. Nothing. He lets out defeated sobs, echoing screams of pain and bangs his fists against the wall while he yells curses into the night. While he begs for the portal door to open. For Something to happen. He begs the only god he knows to perform a miracle and open the damn door, but still he is left just crying alone in the forest. Then, as though he had just turned the key in the lock, as though his god finally decided to perform his miracle, the door lights up with an emerald glow brightening the forest around it and fizzes with electricity before slowly swishing open showing nothing but a pitch black abyss. 

    Zakkai stumbles back and trips over a boulder on the ground, hitting his head hard against another rock. He cries out in pain but abruptly stops when an endless void vaguely in the shape of a terrifying man pushes through the abyss and out into the night floating over to him. A void so frightening that Zakkai loses all his senses. The void stops just before him and seems to look him over with the nothingness where its eyes should be, but it doesn’t seem to want anything to do with him and moves on past. Zakkai breathes a sigh of relief but too soon. Far too soon, for out of the deep black abyss comes the very beings who just a century ago were imprisoned for supposed crimes against the Elven kingdom. Dragons and Faeries.

Status: Outlining

Themes: Survival, abuse of power, good vs. evil, morality and honor, vengeance, justice and judgement, revolution, war and peace. 

Synopsis: Aleria has ruled the Continent, with an ironfist, for over a century winning battle after battle and crushing rebellion after rebellion. Tarragon, a Northern territory, is the first to break free declaring independence from Aleria shaking the foundations of the Empire and sparking a revolution in the colony across the Eidar Ocean. On the brink of two wars and an economic collapse, Aleria finds itself with more enemies than allies. Will Aleria push through and persevere as it has for decades or is this the end of era?

hello writeblr! my name is haeji (they/them or any pronouns tbh) and i am a bisexual 16 year old writer from california. i’ve been writing for about 9 years now, and my favorite genres are western and high fantasy, though i’ll write and read pretty much anything.

i love unhealthy dynamics, heavy worldbuilding, and bisexuals! which is all something my wips tend to include, along with dark (often adult) content like heavy violence and gore. sexual themes less so, but gritty wips are sort of a trademark of my work. 

my current projects

monstrous, wretched, and divine: a russian dark fantasy wip about a boy who comes back to life after being murdered, and in avenging himself, gets caught in his country’s political upheaval - and becomes someone you can barely call human in the process. contains lots of violence, death, torture, and unhealthy dynamics (+ lots of triggering content, proceed with caution). 

i have several other projects that would be too long to list here, but they’re all in my projects page, which you can find here - and believe me when i say i dont stick to one genre.

completed works 

dead men pay their debts - an american gothic western novella about an outlaw who dies but escapes hell back up to earth, and in hiding from the demons on his heels, discovers a grim plot in the sleepy little town he hides in. (keep your eyes peeled for a sequel!)

Lydia Blackwood. A strong, dominant, and extroverted woman with a harsh tongue and a dirty sense of humor. The daughter of Callista and cousin of Kora and Faye. 28; she/her. Familiar is a peregrine falcon named Juliet.

After nine excruciating hours in weather hotter than the nine hells,  Zakkai has finally finished whittling the key from his bone, and he is weak from the blood loss in his left leg, which had once been a part of him but now lays to his side sliced apart in a pool of his own blood so he could remove his bone. He holds the key in his hand as sweat pours down his face, and he gives a slight smile at his accomplishment. It may be the worst pain he has ever experienced and ever will experience, but it was worth it. It was worth the loss. But the loss seems to be too much and he slowly passes out, laying in the mud from the recent thunderstorm just a few hours earlier.  

    Several hours pass by before Zakkai wakes from his unconcious state, and it takes another hour before he is aware enough of his surroundings to get back on his foot to complete his mission. He feverishly hops his way over to the stone wall where he places his forehead against the cool wall. The temperature change slows his beating heart, and - for a moment - it eases his tremendous pain. For a split second he feels like he hasn’t gone through the worst experience of his life and taken one of his own limbs. Once his moment of bliss passes he holds up the whittled key to the keyhole of the portal. The moment he has been waiting for, and he just stands there as though he is rethinking everything. Rethinking saving millions of beings. Zakkai takes a few deep and shaky breaths before he slides the key into the hole.
