It Comes at Night
This is one of those movies that I always see on Netflix and continue to scroll past. I finally clicked on it and realized it’s (another) A24 movie. Even when I don’t mean to watch them they still find me. Back to the plot of this movie. This is set in the future where a virus is rampant. It’s highly contagious and kills within days. This particular family stays in the woods without other human contact until a man breaks into their home thinking no one is there. An alliance forms, even though “no one can be trusted.” Now because I am a dedicated blogger (LMAO) I read a review on this movie after I watched it. the only thing i remember because most reviews are YAWN is them saying “this is one of the scariest movies of 2017.” I have to disagree. I didn’t really find this movie scary, but it just made me uneasy. I felt like a24 tried too hard to make it cinematic for it to be scary. My favorite cinematic thing that they included is as the movie progressed the family dinners got more and more tense. Without spoiling too much, I just thought that was a nice touch.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
So they finally put this movie on Netflix (not that i’m above a little pirating 🤫) so I finally got around to watching it. I can already hear you all screaming “how have you not watched this already?!” I’m sorry okay!? It’s been sitting on my list staring at me for as long as I can remember. For the slim minority: After a messy breakup, Clementine decides to get her memory wiped of her ex. Her ex boyfriend Joel decides to go through the same procedure after figuring out what she did. However, it’s only after the procedure begins that he realizes he doesn’t want to forget her. We as viewers explore their relationship through a visually phenomenal film. Now, this movie wasn’t my favorite. Don’t get me wrong, I thought it was incredible based off of visuals and storytelling. However, my attention span says no. The fact that most of the story was in his brain was a little repetitive for me. As I’m typing this is sounds dumb because the movie wasn’t really repetitive at all that’s just how I felt. But if you aren’t a borderline ADHD bitch such as myself you would probably LOVE this movie. If I ever took drugs this movie is probably what they feel like.

Palm Springs
I’m back!!!! I know nobody noticed (especially since i only have 44 followers big flex) but i have definitely not been posting as much as i used to. I’ve been pretty unmotivated to do anything except lay in my bed and watch tiktoks for the past 2 weeks. But now I am back on my movie watching and reviewing grind. ANYWAYS palm springs!!! i love!! Sarah (played by Cristin Milioti) get traps in a Groundhog day type time spiral with Nyles (Andy Samberg). Since they are trapped together, they begin to spend every day together. And that is a lot of days. just me stating the obvious :). This is one of my favorite movies of 2020 so far(other than birds of prey obviously (go check out that review)). I love romance films that are not ordinary. I am sick of boring highschool tropes I want more uniqueness in the “romance movie industry” (is uniqueness a word? i have no clue). To wrap up this train wreck of a review:this was a really fun watch I definitly recommend.

Ghost
This movie came out in 1990 so it technically can’t be apart of my “i watch 80s movies with my mom” series but close enough. She wanted to watch this one because Patrick Swayze is fine. It turned out to be much better than I expected. When P Swayze gets unexpectedly murdered, he turns into a ghost. He attempts to communicate with his fiancé and unravel the suspicious way that he was murdered. If it wasn’t for the mediocre graphics I wouldn’t be surprised if this was A24s sci-fi romance of the year. The chemistry between Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore was terrific. If they were a real couple at this time I would not be surprised. The plot kept twisting, Whoopi Goldberg was funny as ever, and the characters were developed well. There’s honestly nothing more I could ask for. That being said this won’t be a 10/10 just because it didn’t rock me to my core like I want a true 10/10 movie to. In order to be a 10/10 a movie has to change me.

Say Anything
Welcome back to I watch 80s movies with my mom (spending time with mommy=🥰❤️) Yes I’m aware that this came out in 1989. Yes it still counts as the 80s. This is about a valedictorian named Diane who falls in love with an “underachieving” boy named Lloyd. As they get closer, Dianes dad gets increasingly distressed. That description sort of makes it sound like a horror movie where the dad goes crazy but it’s really not like that at all. it’s a romance movie from the 80s what more can you want. butttt it’s not just about their romance there is more to this movie which is what makes it much more entertaining. I’m not gonna be like one of those girls who says “i was born in the wrong generation” but i think that the 80s are really cool and i prefer romance movies from then. I probably don’t even need to describe the plot because everybody and their brother has seen this movie. If you haven’t (like me I lit rally just watched it for the first time) you should watch this movie. Sorry this is sort of a dry review there’s not too much i can say without spoiling.

The Spectacular Now
I am such a sucker for coming of age movies. When I first started watching this my friend warned me that it would be sad. I thought that this was just some ordinary “i’m a weird girl in highschool but then the popular guy comes and i am no longer depressed.” Basic plot but entertaining nonetheless. how freaking ever this movie made me sad. Aimee was a nerdy girl, and she did meet the popular Sutter. But this movie was about more than their relationship. It was about Sutter’s relationship with his father, himself, his ex girlfriend, Aimee, alcohol and his mother. It’s about Aimees relationship with herself, her mother, and the alcohol Sutter introduces her to. If you cannot tell i’m writing this at 3 AM i’m sorry if it doesn’t make sense. don’t let this be a judge of my other reviews. But the point is if you want a good highschool movie, this is the way to gooooo.

Get Out
If any of you have been keeping up with my page, you would know that I’m not a huge horror fan. I only watch them on occasion. Get Out is the first one I’ve watched in a while and it was amazing. It follows a man named Chris who goes to meet his white girlfriends family. At first everything seems totally normal but (and this is a cheesy way to say it) everything is not as it seems. What truly made this movie scary (to me at least, die hard horror fans might not have been shaken) was the build up. The fact that at first everything was fine, but then the strange clues that Chris begins to come across. Also, no spoilers, but Roses (the gf) mom plays a large role and ooh she is scary. Also I wasn’t 100% sure it was over until the credits played and I could relax. This wasn’t a very formally written review. but if you like scary movies at all I definitely recommend this.

The Florida Project
The 👏 way👏this👏movie👏FLOWED i could go on for hours. This is probably the most natural movie i’ve ever watched. It shows the life of moonie who lives in an orlando motel with her broke mom. she spends her days exploring and causing ruckus with her friends, all while a kind manager does his best to shelter them. It’s so beautiful because it doesn’t romanticize being poor, but it also shows how much fun a child can have in any situation. the dialogue between the children is natural i’m convinced that most of it was not scripted. It makes it feel like you are really there with them. I’m not sure how they got such an amazing actress for moonie. she was only six years old!! im pretty sure i would sell my soul to A24 i don’t care how basic they are their movies are great. this is on netflix, please go watch it!

Footloose
Another classic 80s movie bc my wonderful mom is convinced that i need to be educated. to her credit all of the old movies we have watched together so far are good. footloose is about about a small town where dancing is prohibited, and what happens when a city boy moves there. Throughout the movie there is a lot of dancing scenes which are very entertaining. i don’t know how there were so many attractive actors and actresses in the 80s but this movie is full of them. also, i liked that not every adult character in this movie was dislikeable. even though this movie is catered towards teens, not all of the adults are bad. though (just like pretty in pink) i’m sure most of you have seen this movie, it is perfect for sleepovers and casual viewing.

Fractured
I don’t know if anyone other than my friends and i have watched this movie, but it was surprisingly good. After a man’s daughter falls, he rushes her to a hospital. The hospital is less than hospitable, and after hours of waiting, his daughter and wife still have not returned from the depths of the building. he begins to believe that there is some foul play involved in the hospital. He soon grows extremely frantic. There are a lot of twists and turns in this movie. Until the very last second, I was not sure how it would end. Netflix movies are usually less than entertaining, but throughout the entire movie I was on alert. I highly recommend this movie if you liked the perfection (another not shitty netflix movie) the ending of both are wacky.
overall: 7.5/10 popcorns (it was good but i wouldn’t watch it again)

Birds of Prey
Say it with me, feminist action movies feminist action movies feminist action movies. i love them, and you better love them. There is nothing I love more than watching hot women beat up men. the soundtrack was great, especially that cover of hit me with your best shot. ALSO, the fashion!!! harley quinn’s exotic outfits, and canary’s butch lesbian style made me happy. After Harley Quinn’s intense breakup with the joker, she has to start avoiding everyone who is angry with her. she no longer has joker protecting her. pretty soon she meets up with a bunch of badass women on her hunt for a diamond. so many badass women, so little time. yet harley quinn is somehow funny at the same time. Also Roman’s (roman is the main crime boss) right hand man definitely has gay feelings for him. thank you to @etheraltimelessbeautybouquet for asking me to review this :)

Pretty in Pink
I know, I know. this is a classic movie how have you not seen it?! i’m not sure either. i love 80s teen movies because they all have original storylines and I love looking at the outfits that they wore. As far as 80s movies go, this one was very enjoyable. I probably don’t even need to describe the plot but i will anyways :) A highschool oddball named Andie falls for a rich boy named Blaine, but has to deal with her best friend Ducky who is madly in love with her. Ducky was very funny, and how honest he was with himself was cute. I won’t spoil it if you haven’t seen it, but I really liked the ending. Some people wish that the ending had a different romantic relationship, but I thought the one it had was great.
Overall: 8/10 popcorns (just because I watched it a few days ago and i’m already starting to forget plot points)
P.S please please please send me asks or message me for movies you want me to review

The Silence of the Lambs
My friends and i have been watching a lot of movies recently on netflix party (highly recommend) and when one of them saw that Silence of the Lambs was on there she was excited. I definitely agree with how she feels about this movie. A young FBI trainee named Clarice has to go talk to Hannibal the cannibal (a famous cannibal and serial killer) to attempt to figure out who another serial killer is. It wasn’t necessarily a horror movie, it was just very creepy. It’s exciting to watch Hannibal, because he is extremely clever. When you combine crazy and clever, bad things tend to happen. Also, don’t get mad at me, but a lot of the time I don’t think that movies made in the 80s and 90s are scary. There have been so many high quality horror movies since then. However, this movies creepiness holds up.

Ex Machina
This is the best sci-fi movie i’ve watched in a while. A24 really keeps outdoing themselves. Ex Machina is about a man named nathan who invents a robot named ava. he brings caleb, a coder, to his secluded mountain home to test if Ava has consciousness. When Caleb begins his sessions with Ava, he soon realizes that not everything at the house is as normal as it seems. As the movie progresses, it slowly gets more and more spooky. For such a small cast, this movie does a great job of keeping you interested. This movie fascinated me. The idea of A.I that looked like a human, and the thought of what that A.I would do is extremely interesting. However, i’m not sure that everyone would like this movie. If you are not a sci-fi fan, or if you don’t like to think while watching a movie, this is not for you.

The Secret life of Bees
I have a list of movies and tv shows I want to watch that never ends. Usually, when I watch a movie it was either because I checked it off of my list or somebody convinced me to watch it. This movie I happened across on amazon. I watched it because I’ve been sick (still waiting to get my corona test back) and wanted something that seemed happy to watch. I mean, what type of movie with that name isn’t happy? WRONG. this movie is about a 14 year old girl named lily who accidentally killed her mom when she was four and has been abused by her dad her whole life. When her dad tells lily that her mom didn’t want her, she runs away with their maid rosaline. They end up on a honey farm run by three sisters. There were parts that were cute, parts that were intense, parts that made me sob. Also, this cast was full of huge names. Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, Dakota Fanning, and Alicia Keys to name a few. you can’t go wrong with a cast like that.

Logan Lucky
I’m never one to support gender roles, but when my dad suggested we watch a nascar heist movie I wasn’t exactly sure I would like it. I soon became convinced otherwise. If you have been following my tumblr at all, you know I adore crime movies. This captured everything i enjoy about crime: the fun (not that i would ever commit a crime), the suspense, and the mystery. Two groups of siblings work together to rob a nascar track. This cast of characters is what really makes this movie. Adam Drivers character is one-armed and quiet, and Channing Tatums role is made for him. If you have ever watched a movie with channing you know he’s not exactly the most expressive. somehow, thats what makes him great in this movie. no matter who you are, if you want a fun but heartwarming movie, this is great.
overall: 8.5/10 popcorns (its not super memorable, but very entertaining)
