Best of the best of Reply series
Maybe I was so late to watch these now, but I'm glad I found them. These are incredible. The ups and downs in each scene, the transition between scenes, the storyline to keep us following and accepting the idea. Just brilliant 👏🏻
I'm not going to make any connection between Shin PD's projects for now. But I'm just gonna share my favourites of the Reply series.
PS: Gonna share my favourites of HP too, soon.
Let's start with Reply 1997:
Tumblr media
This Lee-Shin duo's first drama project showed us mainly focusing about husband hunting, with the candidates are between Yoo Yoon Jae (Seo In Guk) and his brother Yoo Tae Woong. They were so alike, their favourite things, and what they did to Sung Si Won (Jung Eun Ji), the girl. But I won't tell the whole story though 😋
Best of R97, my version:
Seo In Guk as main lead ehehehe ☺ in love with him
Main OST by the leading cast. I love the duet of Seo In Guk and Jung Eun Ji 💕
Perfect character of Yoo Yoon Jae. I mean, see his friends 😂 and how he is so into Si Won, sacrifice anything, but never change.
Then, they develop the story, the way of visualizing, into a better one, Reply 1994:
Tumblr media
If you like love triangle story, you'll got it more on this. How someone could be so insensitive, how someone whole heartedly into someone since the very first, how someone could accept someone else's decision and live their life. Still focusing on husband hunting, but from the first episode you have to guess between five men above, slowly until the last episode, each of them would be eliminated one by one.
This is a story about Trash-Najung-Chilbong, alongside with sweet fate of Samcheonpo-Yoon Jin, and a journey to find "the one" of Haitai and Binggrae.
Best of R94, my version:
Lucky Najung being in between of a future Neurosurgeon and a Baseball superstar. Both of them had flaws, but surely a successful one in their career.
More warm story there, like how Samcheonpo won Yoon Jin's heart by taking care of her mom. And vice versa, simply because Yoon Jin keep her promise to Samcheonpo's dad and easily connected to his mom. Oh this one is my fave too, when Binggrae's dad "blabbering" about his son who was in medical school, and it made him wanna try to be back there, to prove to his bad tempered dad.
The idea of taking care of each other being the main theme here. Because the setting is in a boarding house, so it showed us how they slowly became a family, by taking care of each other.
All main casts sing an OST 😍 The JungWoo-YeonSeok-HoJun trio, SungKyun-DoHee duet, Go Ara herself, and even Baro rapping with his boyband.
The OSTs itselves. Maybe because the timeline gap was not to far, so the soundtrack options fit the scene very well, now and before. I love all the OSTs 💕
The last maybe the best of all, from every perspective, Reply 1988:
Tumblr media
This one, I think, is the most complete one. You can learn about love in every way. Love between man and woman. Love between friends. Love between parents and children. Love between parents itself. Love between brother and sister. Love between adults.
Best of R88, my version:
The messages in every episode, goes down to your heart. The everyday scenes are so related to our daily activities, even a simple one have a deep meaning. I didn't even realise that I have to guess who is the adult man beside adult DeokSun. Because the story didn't only make us focus on that.
You may be a little bit annoyed by the environment at first, but the story built up slowly.
Each family have their own story that could break your heart but also warm it in the other time. Like how cold Taek and his Dad relationship, but they indeed love each other, they just didn't know how to express it. The opposite was SunWoo family that so lovely. Then they became one big family and complete each other.
So much prejudice here but it reminds us to not judge a book by its cover.
The old and classic theme, bring us far away back to 90s with the simplicity of happiness.
And those are my opinions about these series, although it didn't connected to each other directly, but the main concept and storyline, it's just awesome.

Release Valve (2/10): Fi Follet
When the moon circles the Earth, it pulls with it the ocean. She used to lie in bed and think about it. How the world can be your compass -- moss growing on one side of a tree, the North Star, sunsets on the horizon. Even if you can’t see it, you know the moon is above you when the tide is high. She felt that with him. When he was near, her blood would sing, rising to meet him whenever he passed. Standing in the doorway of their office, she can feel him even now, her skin prickling and flushing on the high tide of love. “You’re here early,” he said as he walked in. He loosened his tie and rolled up his sleeves, moving over to the cabinets behind his desk. “We’ve got a case?” she asked, hoping he hadn’t caught her mooning over him. She watched his movements with some trepidation. She hadn’t seen him since Friday and the new agents started today. He turned from the cabinets, unveiling his slide projector with fanfare. She made a show of rolling her eyes. “The kids are going to love this,” he said.
“Are they?” “You did.” “Did I?” Mulder gestured around the office. “The X-Files Headquarters: Where Fun Goes To Die.” He said. “If you’re going to make fun of my slideshow, you can wait in the hallway.” “Sorry, Mulder,” she said, grinning. “I’ll try not to ruin it.” “Thank you,” he said, earnestly.
On that, Stone and Isaacs walked in, chatting.
“Morning,” Stone said, his excitement palpable. He had a doofy grin pasted on his face and a cup of coffee in his hand. Isaacs was more subdued. She was tall, taller than Mulder remembered. He had met her last week on a long lunch with Scully where they’d talked about her past cases and what she might expect. There’d been a 15 minute stretch where she’d kept cutting her eyes to Scully, obviously expecting her to tell her they were kidding, an elaborate hazing for rookies at the top of their class. Even now she looked as though she expected people to jump out of the woodwork shouting “Gotcha!” Despite that, there was a quiet confidence about her. She looked at Mulder and nodded to the desk annex. “Anywhere in particular?” she asked. Mulder shook his head. “Anywhere you like.” She put her things down on the desk in the middle and went about unpacking her few belongings. Mulder looked to Stone. “The computer you wanted,” he said, “the requisition got approved. Should be here next week.” Stone pumped a fist in the air and dropped down at the further-most desk, the wheeled chair coasting a few inches before coming to a stop. He looked at Mulder, suddenly pensive. “Can you…” he started to say, then, with more confidence, “have Purchasing bring it down here as soon as it arrives. In the box, sealed. I’ll do the set up myself.” Mulder leaned back against his desk and shot Stone an approving look. “Look at him, Scully,” he said, “not in the basement five minutes and already he’s achieved a level of paranoia it took me 2 years to get to myself.” “You forget he’s read all your files,” she responded. “Our files,” Mulder said, giving her a meaningful look. “Speaking of the files,” Isaacs said from her desk, “I’ve read the Greatest Hits you sent me over the weekend. I wouldn’t mind taking a look at the rest.” “You’ll have some reading time,” Mulder said, turning to the projector and hitting the lights, “you two are flying to Cajun Country this afternoon.” “We’ve got a case?” Stone asked, excitedly. “We’ve got a case,” Mulder said, punching in the first slide. A picture of a small lake took up a wall of the office. It was slightly out of focus and a few degrees off being perfectly horizontal. It was close to either dawn or dusk, the water an inky grey, the trees in the background reaching up toward a new moon. In the far right of the picture a small green glow floated a few feet above the water, its twin reflecting off the lake below it. “This picture was taken about three months ago in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana,” Mulder started. “Anybody know what we’re looking at here?” “Will-o’-the-wisp?” Stone offered. “Two points to the kid,” Mulder said, then turned back to the slide, “Will-o’-the-wisp, also known as a hinkypunk, spook light or ignis fatuus in Latin, meaning ‘foolish fire.’ It’s an atmospheric ghost light, which, according to English folklore is usually seen by travelers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. It resembles a flickering lamp and is said to recede if approached, drawing travelers from safe paths. “This,” Mulder went on, pointing to the picture, “was published in a local paper around the time it was taken and became quite the sensation. Locals, particularly teens, started going out to the swamp at night, trying to catch a glimpse. It was all fun and games until three weeks ago, when it took its first victim.” Mulder switched the slide and the picture of a teenage girl came up. She was all smiles, looking directly into the camera as if daring it to take the picture. She had sky-high bangs and dangly gold earrings. “Vanessa Glassie, fifteen years old. Disappeared while out with friends on wisp hunt. They’d just seen the ghost light when she told friends she had to pee and that was the last they saw of her. Local authorities have yet to find a trace of her.” He clicked to the next slide. Another young girl, with dark pixie hair and a shy smile. “Then last week, Marcie Vincent, a friend of Vanessa’s, went missing as well, from the same area. Friends said she’d talked about going out and looking for her friend. She told her parents she was going to bed one night, and they found her room empty the next morning. The window open and shoeprints in Marcie’s size heading away from the house. The will-o’-the-wisp was seen in the area the same night. The local PD asked the FBI to investigate.” Mulder cut back to the first picture of the ghost light. “And they think what, the lights took her?” Scully said. “Not exactly,” he said, “there’s a more geographically targeted legend about the lights in that area of the south, called—“ “Fi follet,” Isaacs finished for him. Mulder cut her an impressed look. She shrugged. “My mom was born and bred in Louisiana,” she said. “But the fi follet is said to mostly play harmless pranks.” “And in some cases attacking people for vengeance and sucking the blood of children.” From Mulder, who dramatically flipped to the slide of Vanessa Glassie. The room was silent for a moment but for the hum of the projector. Then Mulder went for the lights. “Your flight leaves in four hours,” he said, dismissing them, “you should pack.” They both stood to leave. “I want updates twice daily,” he said, “even if there’s nothing to report, you call me.” They nodded and left. Scully leveled a look at him, “Will-o’-the-wisp, Mulder?” she asked, incredulous. “You heard Isaacs,” Mulder countered, “it’s called fi follet.” “It’s swamp gas!” “We’ve got two missing kids, Scully,” he said, “and authorities asking for help. Isaacs could do this one in her sleep and Stone needs seasoning.” “So you’re saying you don’t think the lights took those girls,” she asked, looking for clarity. “No,” he said, finally, “I think it’s probably swamp gas.” “I wish I had that on tape,” Scully said to no one in particular. XxXxXxXxX “You should take lead on this,” Stone said, as the wheels touched down on their flight from DC. “You’ve got seniority,” Isaacs replied. “I’ve also got fuck-all for field experience,” he said, “you should take lead.” Isaacs nodded. Same shit, different town. She knew she wasn’t going to get much different as a Fed, but the pay was better, the resources infinitely superior, and this paranormal stuff was the first work-related thing that had piqued her interest in years. You could have knocked her over with a feather when Agent Scully called her into her office her the last week of class and proposed the job. “That’s some crazy intense white people shit,” her boyfriend had said to her when she told him about it.
She’d had a tendency to agree until she’d read the files. For the first time in her adult life, maybe she wouldn’t be bored. XxXxXxXxX It was coming on evening when they followed the sheriff through the woods to the last place Vanessa Glassie had been seen. It was a tiny clearing in the swamp, the damp ground covered with brown pine needles and empty beer bottles. The air was thick with the scent of pitch and the dull whine of insects. The five of them, Stone, Isaacs, the sheriff and two of his deputies barely fit into the open area once they trampled in, and one of the deputies, McLaren, the tall one, nearly toppled into a tree. He kicked a beer bottle into the brush in frustration as he righted himself, his mood dark. “Fucking kids,” he muttered. McLaren hadn’t been very welcoming since their arrival. Whether he was pissed that the Feds had taken over the investigation or the fact that the lead Fed was black, Isaacs wasn’t quite sure. She smacked a mosquito as it landed on her neck and turned toward the sheriff. She really fucking hated the South. The sheriff caught her eye and nodded toward the empty bottles and cans. “The lights are just an excuse,” he said, “the kids mostly just come out here to party.” “Who owns the land?” Isaacs asked. “The State,” he replied. “I don’t really have the resources to stop these kids. They’d just find somewhere else.” He pointed to the brush off to their left. “That’s where she was last seen,” he said. Isaacs took a look, turning on a flashlight and running it over the area. “We swept it good,” the younger deputy, Miller, said, clearly trying to be helpful. Isaacs gave him a small smile. “There’s probably not much to find. I’m sure you guys were thorough.” She turned back to the Sheriff. “You had dogs out?”
He nodded.
“For both girls. They couldn’t find anything here. The dogs at the Vincent girl’s house lost her scent about a quarter of a mile from home. We’ve just come up empty.”
“I’d like to talk to Vanessa Glassie’s parents right away if you don’t mind. Marcie’s too.” “I’ll take you over there in the morning, first thing.” She nodded. Stone spoke up then. “And the lights?” He said, indicating toward the water on their right. “This is where they were seen?” “This is where the picture that ran in the paper was taken,” said the Sheriff in the affirmative. He narrowed his eyes at Stone. “You really think the lights had something to do with this?” Stone shrugged. “You never know.” McLaren huffed out an audible sigh. “And the lights were reportedly seen the night the Vincent girl went missing last week?” Stone went on, ignoring him. “We had a few people call in,” the Sheriff said, pointing East. “Her family’s house is about a mile and a half that way.” “There anything else around here?” Isaacs followed up, “other than the road and the Vincent residence? Any businesses or facilities?” “None,” he said, “this is all State land until it hits the Vincent property and they’ve got about 500 acres.” Isaacs nodded. “Thanks for bringing us out.” XxXxXxXxX The next morning came too soon for Isaacs. After checking in with Agent Mulder, she and Stone had stayed out in the swamp for hours waiting to see lights. They’d bagged out at about 2am, with nothing to show for it but bug bites and pine sap on their ass. “This is my best suit,” Stone said dejectedly as he took another swipe at his backside and unlocked the door to his motel room. He came out of the same door at 7:00am with a pillow crease in his cheek, carrying a small cup of steaming coffee. They were dinky motel rooms, but at least each one had a coffee maker. Isaacs slid into the driver’s seat. “You get any sleep?” she asked him. “A little,” he replied, on a yawn. “And I’ll tell you, my enthusiasm for field work is rapidly waning.” Isaacs smiled at him.
They pulled up to the Glassie residence at the same time as the Sheriff and were quickly ushered inside. Mrs. Glassie was short with frizzy black hair. She was pale and when she asked them to please sit, her smile was hollow. Her clothes hung off her loosely, like she’d lost a lot of weight. Mr. Glassie was of medium height and build, and quiet – he wouldn’t meet their eyes. Isaacs decided to just jump right into the questions. “Had Vanessa been acting strangely before she disappeared? Talking about any new friends or activities?” “We’ve already told the Sheriff everything we can think of,” Mrs. Glassie said. “And tell them too, if you don’t mind, Doris,” the Sheriff said, “they’re here to help.” “Nothing like that,” Mrs. Glassie said to Isaacs. “She’s a good girl.” “Did she have a job?”
“She wanted to, but I told her school was her job now, that she could get one next summer.” “How about a boyfriend?” On that, Mr. and Mrs. Glassie shared a look. “No,” Mr. Glassie said, short. Something about that was off, and Isaacs decided not to reply, to see if they filled in the silence themselves. It only took about ten seconds for Mrs. Glassie to jump in. “She wasn’t supposed to,” she said, “she’s only 15.” “But she did anyway?” “No,” again, from Mr. Glassie. “Bill,” from his wife. “He’s not good enough for her.” Ah. So there was a boyfriend. “What’s his name?” Isaacs asked quietly. “Martin Dubois,” said Mrs. Glassie. “We talked to him,” the Sheriff said then, “he didn’t give us much, but he seems like a good kid.” “He’s a goddamn dropout!” Mr. Glassie practically shouted. Stone cut in then. “Mr. Glassie, did Vanessa have a computer?” The question seemed to shake him out of it. “Yes,” he said, with a touch of pride, “a good one.” “Mind if I take a look?” “We didn’t find anything on it,” the Sheriff said. “Just covering all our bases,” Stone said with a smile. Mr. Glassie led him upstairs. Mrs. Glassie looked to Isaacs. “The neighbors are all saying it was fi follet,” she said, on a sniff, “isn’t that silly?” “Will you show me her room?” Isaacs said, not wanting to answer. Mrs. Glassie led her up the staircase and into a bright green room. It was covered with posters. Boys, soccer, Dave Matthews Band. Stone was sitting at her computer, typing, Mr. Glassie hovering nearby. There was a phone on the bedside table, one of the clear ones that showed the working parts inside. Isaacs pointed to the phone and looked at Mr. Glassie. “Does she have her own line?” “No,” he said, “she kept asking for one though.” Isaacs looked to Stone, then addressed Mrs. Glassie. “Do you mind giving us a few minutes?” Mrs. Glassie turned to leave, then looked to her husband, who didn’t budge. “Bill?” They both slowly shuffled out. Isaacs came up behind Stone. “Anything?” she asked, leaning over his shoulder. “Not yet,” he said, “Nothing on AIM or ICQ. No email or anything like that. But,” he said, continuing to type as he spoke, “her history did get wiped the afternoon before she went missing.” “Think you can recover it?” Stone looked at her. “I’m not going to dignify that with a response,” he said. She snorted a short laugh. About 90 seconds later, he leaned back and pointed to the screen. “There we go,” he said. “’DuBoy’ to ‘SoccerStar22’ in an unlinked chat room. Check it out.”
Isaacs leaned in. “I’ll be damned.”

#BLACKLIVESMATTER
Hello,
I apologize for how inactive and silent I have been on the app as of late. Originally, a little over a week ago, I had logged off to focus on my studies. And then I just stayed logged off to focus my attention on spreading awareness for the Black Lives Matter movement on twitter, which I would say is the main social media platform for accurate information about protests and the injustice the poc- SPECIFICALLY the Black community- face every day. But I definitely need to address the same situation here.
George Floyd, an innocent and unarmed black man, was murdered by police in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020. There were four police officers repsonsible for his death: Derek Chauvin, Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas K. Lang. And as of today, June 2nd, only ONE of these four monsters have been convicted. While all of them have been fired, that is not enough. Especially when the officer who WAS convicted, Derek Chauvin, the criminal who suffocated and murdered Floyd by pressing his knee into Floyd’s throat for over 8 minutes, a VERY INTENTIONAL MURDER, was only convicted on charges of third degree murder and second degree man slaughter.
For those of you who don’t already know, these charges are nothing short of lenient and unacceptable, to say the least.
Third degree murder is defined as ACCIDENTALLY killing someone, as second degree manslaughter implies as well. There was absolutely nothing accidental about Derek Chauvin’s actions. He wanted to kill Floyd, and he is being shielded by the corrupt, notoriously racist system that is law enforcement. Not only was his sentencing nowhere near as severe and incriminating as it should have been, but Chauvin has also been granted protection by the Minneapolis PD after there were threats on his life. This monster is being protected by the fascist, racist, amoral system that condones and promotes brutality against the Black community.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Floyd’s murder inspired protests for the Black Lives Matter movement in cities across the United States. The last time I checked, there were only two states within America that didn’t have protests happening.
I cannot stress this enough, the protests and standing for justice is of the utmost importance. Time and time again, law enforcement and politics have failed the American public, putting its inhabitants- SPECIFICALLY POC AND EVEN MORE SPECIFICALLY BLACK LIVES AND CIVIL RIGHTS- in danger. We cannot wait for change to come; we must actively fight for it ourselves.
George Floyd was just the tip of the iceberg. There have been thousands of cases just like his. He was not the first innocent, unarmed black person to be murdered in cold blood because of their race, and he won’t be the last UNLESS WE STAND AND FIGHT FOR JUSTICE AND CHANGE. And if you don’t believe law enforcement is corrupt and racist, just take a look at the statistics:
- There were only twenty-seven days of 2019 where police did not kill someone
- Black people are at minimum three times as likely to be murdered by police than white people
- 99% of killings by police from 2013-2019 have NOT resulted in officers being charged with a crime
(source: https://mappingpoliceviolence.org/)
The facts speak for themselves.
This movement and these protests are absolutely essential to protecting and fighting for the civil rights and lives of black people everywhere.
Not only is law enforcement composed of evil, racist individuals with god complexes and vindictive, violent vendettas who abuse their power and murder innocent people because of their race, but the government is filled to the brim with the same type of hate and injustice.
In response to the protests, the spineless, inhumane, evil tyrant Trump (the monster that part of America actually elected to be President) tweeted:
Tumblr media
Which was so violent, hateful, and racist that Twitter flagged it as having violated their policy about glorification of violence.
The saying, “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” was originally said by fellow racist Miami police chief Walter Headley in 1967 in response to black protesters fighting for civil rights. He was notorious for abusing his power and actively inciting violence to fuel his racist agenda.
From one evil racist to another.
(source: https://www.npr.org/2020/05/29/864818368/the-history-behind-when-the-looting-starts-the-shooting-starts)
This tweet incited even more violence. While power-hungry, corrupt, abusive cops were already at protests, arresting innocent protesters (primarily black protesters), firing rubber bullets and spraying teargas and mace against protesters (AGAIN primarily black protesters), Trump’s insensitive, evil tantrum on twitter only incited more violence. As of the past day, Trump has sent in the National Guard, a highly militant group, into cities with protests. Not to mention, racist white supremacist civilians have been at protests, heavily armed themselves. A statement from these monsters stated that they were waiting for Trump to “give [them] the green light” to start shooting protesters. If you are not disgusted with this, you are part of the problem.
(Evidence below)
Tumblr media
If you follow, support, or even voted for Trump, unfollow and block me. You may not recognize or admit it, but associating yourself with that monster makes your just as evil as he is. And YES you ARE A RACIST if you voted for/support him! There is no reasonable, valid dispute to that fact.
Ahmaud Arbery. George Floyd. Christian Cooper. Breanna Taylor. Atatiana Jefferson. Kathryn Johnson. Anthony Hill. Kevin Davis. Walter Scott. Jordan Davis. Renisha McBride. Tamir Rice. Philando Castile. Sandra Bland. Tayvon Martin. Oscar Grant. John Crawford. Alton Sterling. Nicholas Thomas. Amadou Diallo. Eric Gamer. The Charleston 9.
This is just a small portion of the black people who have been abused and murdered by racists. Some of which, by the way, were murdered by white supremacists who weren’t cops and STILL were heavily armed. If we’ve proven that no law enforcement official should have these weapons, CERTIANLY civilians shouldn’t have them! And even though these white supremacists who murdered black people were NOT a part of law enforcement and shielded behind a badge, there STILL wasn’t justice. These racist criminals have NEVER BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE IN THE EYES OF LAW ENFORCEMENT SPECIFICALLY OTHER RACIST COPS, PROSECUTORS, AND JURORS. THAT’S BECAUSE THE SYSTEM ITSELF IS BROKEN. NO SYSTEM REFORM CAN CHANGE THE SYSTEMIC RACISM DEEPLY EMBEDDED AND WOVEN INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT.
The Black Lives Matter movement wasn’t something that just magically showed up over night after Floyd’s murder. This isn’t some newly found racism and hatred on behalf of law enforcement, politicians, and civilians.
THIS INJUSTICE HAS EXISTED SINCE WHITE COLONIZERS “DISCOVERED” AMERICA IN THE FIRST PLACE. THESE RACIST, EVIL IDEOLOGIES STEM BACK SO MUCH FURTHER THAN JUST THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS. DON’T ALLOW YOURSELF TO BELIEVE THIS MOVEMENT AND THESE INJUSTICES DIDN’T EXIST JUST BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT, WEREN’T DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY, AND/OR IGNORED THEM.
To my white/white passing readers, you have more privilege than you probably realize. Learn about your privilege and use it to fight for justice. Just because you may not be directly impacted by these murders, protests, or injustices does NOT mean they should matter any less to you. We all have a responsibility to stand up for what’s right and to fight for justice. And if you happen to go to a protest, it is CRUCIAL that you do not instigate or provoke any violence. Not only does this make it dangerous for other protesters, but it’s just another opportunity for the media to invalidate the meanings of this movement.
If you are ignorant, there is nothing wrong with realizing and admitting that. The REAL problem with you ignorance is if you recognize it and deliberately choose not to educate yourself. At that point, you are directly disregarding the injustices.
I cannot emphasize this enough: THERE IS NO NEUTRALITY IN THIS.
You either recognize your ignorance, educate yourself, and fight for justice or you take the side of the oppressor. That goes for all my non-black readers reading this not just white people.
To my readers who aren’t black or white, you still do very much have a responsibility to be speaking up about and standing with the movement for justice. And even if you’re not white, you are not immune from racism, ignorance, and/or intolerance.
To my black readers, my blog has always been and always will be a safe space for you. Although I can never fully understand the prejudice, hate, and injustice you experience firsthand, I will fight alongside you.
To ALL readers no matter what your race, please please PLEASE hold me accountable to anything and everything I say. If anything I say offends you or makes you uncomfortable, please let me know. Not only will I immediately delete or edit my post and apologize, but I will do everything in my power to learn from my mistakes and combat my ignorance.
If you ever need support or someone to talk to, my messages are always open, and I will do everything I can to help you. Please feel free to reach out.
As for my parting notes in this letter, I would like to address a few more topics.
Firstly, on a much more superficial level, I will be posting more resources for the movement on my twitter under the same name @brokenspinez, and additionally, my DMs are always open there as well if that is a preferred, more comfortable form of communication for you.
Secondly, and related to the prior topic, I will be making another post shortly addressing Yoongi’s intro to “What do you think” off of his second studio album D2 and issues/ignorance within the fandom. More info for what I think about that particular situation can be found on my twitter as well.
Third, I want to specify to the non-black readers of this post that this movement is not an opportunity for you to bring up the injustices you have faced. Even if you have suffered from injustice because of your race, now is not the time or place to be talking about your experiences as if to prove that your race has suffered tremendously too. That’s not what’s important right now. Your feelings are valid, but if you only bring up the prejudice your race suffers from in an attempt to silence the #BlackLivesMatter movement, that’s sick and wrong.
Fourth, do not comment on any social media platform anything along the lines of “not all cops”. I do not care for this justification of police brutality, and I certainly do not care to hear you defend the corrupt system that abuses and murders black people simply because of the color of their skin. In addition, I do not care for or support praise for cops being decent human beings. A cop doesn’t get a gold star and a pat on the back just because they themselves don’t appear to be racist even though the belong to a racist, fascist federation. I don’t care to hear people rave in support over one cop that happens to kneel in solidarity with protesters. Now is not the time to be supporting and defending cops; that is not the purpose of the this movement. Never forget that ALL media outlets- especially news providers- pick and choose parts of a story to make it fit their agenda. Do not fall for the narrative they paint about about these acts of violence from police officers just being a “few bad apples”. That is incorrect.
Fifth, there has been looting at some of these protests. But I implore you to not be so easily fooled by the news that these looters are only black protesters. In fact, a majority of looting and damage to property either comes from
A) ignorant white protesters that won’t be held accountable
B) people not at all involved in the protest who just take advantage of the situation
or
C) white supremacists/cops who go undercover and commit crimes to reflect poorly on the movement.
Are there some looters/protesters who vandalize property who ARE black? Yes. But it is not the majority. Don’t allow yourself to be tricked.

Sixth and finally, I want to link some websites where you can help contribute to the cause. Below are some links to various donations, petitions, and resources with information about protesting. Even if you are not in a situation where you can protest or donate (which is completely valid), there is no reason why you cannot sign FREE petitions, educate yourself on the movement, and spread awareness on social media.
Here are some links and resources:

3. petition for Emerald Black, a pregnant woman brutally attacked by police. She suffered a miscarriage from police brutality after she and her fiancé were pulled over. Currently, there is no investigation being conducted. JUSTICE FOR EMERALD. https://www.change.org/p/san-leandro-police-deartment-justice-for-emerald-black
4. petition for disbarment of George E. 5. petition to put the cops who murdered George Floyd in prison. George Floyd was another innocent, unarmed black man who was murdered by police. he was in pristine health, and an autopsy paid for by Floyd’s Family through a private forensic pathologist confirmed that it was asphyxiation caused by Chauvin knee on Floyd’s neck that killed him. No matter how law enforcement tries to deny it and say Floyd died because of prexisting health conditions and drug use, we know the truth. JUSTICE FOR FLOYD. https://www.change.org/p/federal-bureau-of-investigation-put-the-minneapolis-police-officers-who-killed-george-floyd-in-prison?recruiter=766698229&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_message&utm_term=psf_combo_share_abi&recruited_by_id=37d65b20-88e6-11e7-9751-b3880c72a222&share_bandit_exp=message-22417260-en-US&share_bandit_var=v2
6. Gofundme link to Floyd’s family to cover costs of legal advising and representation, George Floyd’s autopsy conducted by a private forensic pathologist, Floyd’s funeral, and other various costs. https://www.gofundme.com/f/georgefloyd
Thank you for reading. If you have any other links to add to this post, please message me and I will edit the document. Stand with the Black Lives Matter movement. Stand for justice.

I can’t investigate PDS saga – Prosecutor Martin Amidu
Tumblr media
The special prosecutor Martin Amidu has reiterated his office does not have the mandate to investigate financial and economic crimes. The Good Governance Advocacy Group Ghana (GGAGG) has served notice it will petition the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the Power Distribution Service saga after the Ghana government suspended the deal over some infractions. However, Mr. Amidu has stated his powers are limited. “Just yesterday, 6th August 2019 I read, here in Ouagadougou, on Ghana Web that the Good Governance Advocacy Group Ghana (GGAGG) was petitioning “the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the circumstances leading to the suspension of the Power Distribution Services concession agreement”. It wants the Office to investigate and prosecute fraudulent activities or supervision over corruption, nepotism, cronyism, favouritism and usurpation of another Minister’s powers. “The truth is that section 79 of Act 959 severely restricts the jurisdiction of the Office of the Special Prosecutor to fight corruption and corruption-related offences in Ghana unlike in other countries that are fully committed to and adhere to their obligations under the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption, and the ECOWS Protocol on the Fight against Corruption in their domestic anti-corruption legislations. The ruling of the High Court in the case of the Republic v Ayariga and 1 Other, 17th July 2019, High Court, Accra, (Unreported) underscored the point I have made on the remit of the Office to a limited extent only based on lack of detailed particulars and should be a guide to the public: I annex a scanned PDF of the ruling as a separate attachment to this paper for educational purposes,” the special prosecutor said in a statement. Below is the full unedited statement: THE OFFICE OF THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR HAS NO JURISDICTION TO INVESTIGATE FINANCIAL AND ECOMOMIC CRIMES – THE PDS CASE: BY MARTIN A. B. K. AMIDU The past week has seen a situation where the jurisdiction of the Office of the Special Prosecutor has, probably with all good intentions, been misrepresented, to the public and creating in their minds the belief that the Office has power to investigate and prosecute fraud, and generally financial and economic crimes. Such continued misrepresentation of the jurisdiction of the Office to the public is responsible in part for the acceptance by some members of the public that the Office is not meeting the expectations for which reason they advocated for its establishment and the appointment of the Special Prosecutor. I have at a number of fora both locally and internationally endeavoured to underscore the very limited jurisdiction apportioned to the Office of the Special Prosecutor under section 79 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959). My personal website contains postings on my efforts to educate and to lower the expectations of the electorate as to how parliament curtailed the plentitude of the powers of Office set forth in the body of Act 959 in the interpretation section 79 of the Act. Nonetheless for some reason of trust, maybe, some members of the public have not read the interpretation section of the Act; and many ordinary people will rather look at the enacting sections and believe that the Office ought to be able to prosecute certain other offences and translate such wishes into a perception that the Office has the jurisdiction to do so in fact. I have followed closely the discourse in the print and electronic media since the announcement on Tuesday 30th July 2019 through the Ministry of Finance and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited suspending the concession agreement with the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited. The Government is said to have initiated an enquiry into the circumstances leading to the non-fulfillment of conditions precedent to the full operationalization of the agreement by the PDC. (See Graphic Online of Saturday, 3rd August 2019 on Ghana Web). The Ghana News Agency also reported on Ghana Web on Saturday, 3rd August 2019 that the Minority in Parliament has called for the annulment of the concession agreement on the ground that “it is highly inimical to Ghana’s power sector”. It is also reported to have charged the Government to ensure the refund of all monies appropriated by PDS in full with interest through, what it describes as, this fraudulent scheme and their collaborators. The Ghana Web of Sunday 4th August 2019 also carried a Graphic report that the Embassy of the United States of America (USA) in Ghana has stated that: “The U. S. Government strongly encourages the Government of Ghana to conduct a thorough forensic audit into claims of fraud in order to fully establish the facts of the matter” regarding its contract with Power Distribution Services (PDS). On Sunday, 4 August 2019 my anti-corruption crusader colleague, friend and member of OccupyGhana was reported on Ghana Web to have said, I believe inadvertently, on Citi FM that: “If you really want to get to it, the contracts around the energy sector are probably what Amidu should be paying attention to because that for me is where the fraud is.” Just yesterday, 6th August 2019 I read, here in Ouagadougou, on Ghana Web that the Good Governance Advocacy Group Ghana (GGAGG) was petitioning “the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the circumstances leading to the suspension of the Power Distribution Services concession agreement”. It wants the Office to investigate and prosecute fraudulent activities or supervision over corruption, nepotism, cronyism, favouritism and usurpation of another Minister’s powers. The truth is that section 79 of Act 959 severely restricts the jurisdiction of the Office of the Special Prosecutor to fight corruption and corruption-related offences in Ghana unlike in other countries that are fully committed to and adhere to their obligations under the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption, and the ECOWS Protocol on the Fight against Corruption in their domestic anti-corruption legislations. The ruling of the High Court in the case of the Republic v Ayariga and 1 Other, 17th July 2019, High Court, Accra, (Unreported) underscored the point I have made on the remit of the Office to a limited extent only based on lack of detailed particulars and should be a guide to the public: I annex a scanned PDF of the ruling as a separate attachment to this paper for educational purposes. I have severally explained why the Office of the Special Prosecutor cannot investigate the alleged commission of offences contained in any draft or final 1999 Forensic Audits of SSNIT reports by an alleged Minister in the Government, the Senior Minister’s Forensic Audit reports, the recent Bank Scandals, and the BOST allegations which do not point directly to the suspected commission of corruption and corruption-related offences. I wish to repeat hereunder portions of my presentation to an international workshop of Auditors in Accra, Ghana in September 2018 on “The Role of the Special Prosecutor in Strengthening Accountability for Public Funds” – “the jurisdiction of the office” – and hope that it helps well-meaning Ghanaians not to continue to create the impression that the Office can be a knight errant roaming at will in search of its own ideals of crimes it wishes to investigate and prosecute. It cannot go outside its remit unless Section 79 of Act 959 which deliberately narrowly defines corruption and corruption-related offences is amended to make it consistent with international conventions on corruption, which Ghana has voluntarily ratified and to which it is a party. The shorter version of my paper was posted on my website – martinamidu.com – on 26th September 2018: “Jurisdiction of the Office There is the perception out there amongst the populace that the Office of the Special Prosecutor can investigate and prosecute any criminal offence under the laws of Ghana. Granted that more than 65% of the population may not be able to read and properly understand the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, the problem is compounded when persons, civil society and political organizations which ought to know better choose to petition or complain to the Office on matters which have nothing to with corruption and corruption-related offences. Worse of all, these enlightened persons and organizations appear to be petitioning the Office more for media publicity and political point scoring than pursuing genuine complaints against adversaries. Their modus operandi is to write a letter, petition or complaint, have it published in the media long before submitting or posting the complaint to the Office. The object of such persons and organizations is not to seek a fair and impartial investigation and prosecution but to do maximum damage to perceived political opponents even before they can be investigated. It is a type of mob lynching which no reasonable and impartial law enforcement agency should be used for. Every citizen is entitled to the constitutional right to be presumed innocent and not to be presumed guilty and tried by public opinion before a determination even to commence investigations commences. Unfortunately, the media aids in such cheap publicity seeking by just publishing the complaint without satisfying itself whether the petition really concerns a corruption and corruption-related offence. But it is not difficult for an average reasonable person to make out a corruption and corruption-related offence because the interpretation section, Section 79 of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959) defines “corruption and corruption-related offences” to mean, offences under (a) Section 146, 151, 179C, 239, 252, 253, 254, 256, 258 and 260 of the Criminal Offence Act, 1960 (Act 29); (b) Section 92 (2) of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663); and (c) Existent offences under enactments arising out of or consequent to offences referred to in paragraphs (a) and (b); An analysis of the above shows that out of the ten offences listed from the Criminal Offences Act, six of them are misdemeanours, two are felonies and the two are unclassified. The balance of criminal offences in the Criminal Offences Act which have not been apportioned to the Office deal with several felonies to be investigated by various law and order enforcement agencies under the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General CID, the Executive Director Economic and Organized Crime Office, the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations, the Director-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, The Executive Secretary for the Financial Intelligence Center, the National Security Co-ordinator, the Director of Public Prosecutions, and many others. It may be useful to amplify briefly the corruption and corruption-related offences apportioned for investigation and prosecution by the Office. The following are the offences created under Act 959: (a) Section 146 deals with dishonestly receiving property that a person knows to have been obtained or appropriated by a punishable criminal offence (b) Section 151 deals with persons who extorts property from any other person by means of threat as committing a second degree felony (c) Section 179C deals with using public office for private gain as a criminal offence (d) Section 239 deals with corruption of and by public officers as a misdemeanor (e) Section 252 deals with accepting or giving bribe to influence public officer or juror as a misdemeanor (f) Section 253 deals with corrupt promise by judicial officer or juror as a misemeanour (g) Section 254 deals with corrupt selection of juror as a misdemeanor (h) Section 256 deals with corruption, intimidation, and personation in respect of election as a misdemeanor (i) Section 258 deals with falsification of returns at election as a second degree felony, and (j) Section 260 deals with withholding public money by public officer as a misdemeanour (k) Section 92(2) of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663) deals with offences constituted under the Act for which jurisdiction is given to the Office. Surprisingly it fails to mention Section 93 dealing with corrupt practices. The jurisdiction of the Office of the Special Prosecutor is therefore strictly provided for under the Act. It is more restrictive than any other anti-corruption agency I have come across. Apart from the challenges which the Office has faced since the assumption of Office of the Special Prosecutor, the foregoing explains why the Office is not investigating the several alleged suspected offences perceived to have been committed by particular ministers of state and operatives under the present Government and previous Governments. The Office does not and cannot investigate financial and economic offences in which no evidence of corruption can be demonstrated from the beginning. This explains why the Office cannot investigate the alleged commission of offences contained in any draft or final 1999 Forensic Audits of SSNIT reports by an alleged minister in the Government, the recent bank scandals, and BOST allegations which do not point to the suspected commission of corruption and corruption-related offence. Just give the Office personal knowledge of facts to support an abuse of public office for private gain and the Office will take up the investigations. But do not politicize the work of the Office by dragging it into media propaganda. What happened since 1999 that an alleged offence committed around that year has not been investigated by any previous Government? The remit of an independent anti-corruption agency is not to dabble in politics.” I plead with all anti-corruption civil society members to help in enlightening ordinary members of the public about the limited jurisdiction of the Office of the Special Prosecutor so that they do not lose confidence in the Office for not investigating cases for which it has clearly no jurisdiction. Creating serious and deliberate misperception about the jurisdiction of the Office is one sure way those who fear anti-corruption activism can kill trust in the Office. McAfee Internet Security (2017)
http://cyberparse.co.uk/2017/01/18/mcafee-internet-security-2017-2/ https://i0.wp.com/cyberparse.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/security-binary-pd-898757.jpg?fit=3888%2C2592
The true purpose of a security suite isn’t to secure your computer. It’s to protect you, your privacy, and your data. With customer protection in mind, McAfee Internet Security installs on all of your devices. However, most of what it offers comes with McAfee’s antivirus, and the additional suite-specific components don’t add enough value, especially if you don’t need antispam or parental control.
At $79.99 per year, McAfee looks like it’s right in line with the competition, price-wise. Bitdefender and Kaspersky charge the same, within a nickel or so. But look again. With a Bitdefender or Kaspersky subscription you can install protection on three PCs. McAfee is unlimited, and lets you protect every Windows, macOS, iOS, or Android device in your household.
In fact, the Home screen in this product includes a button to extend protection to more devices. Clicking it reveals a button that scours your network to find unprotected devices and bring them into the fold. Clicking the icon that represents your current device summarizes its status.
The main window looks, for the most part, like that of McAfee’s antivirus. Both have undergone a major user interface update since I originally reviewed the product line. Instead of squareish green edged panels, the main window now relies on a menu of five items: Home, PC Security, Identity, Privacy, and Account. Clicking each item brings up a page that displays status and offers access to the corresponding feature. There’s no longer any need for the Navigation page, a separate user interface that listed and linked to every one of the suite’s features.
Not seeing this new interface? Don’t worry, you will. McAfee is rolling out the new look slowly, gradually, and automatically.
Shared Antivirus Features As is often the case, this suite’s antivirus protection is precisely the same as that of the corresponding standalone antivirus, McAfee AntiVirus Plus. That review goes into greater detail than the summary that follows.
McAfee’s scores in independent lab tests are generally mediocre. It received a B-level certification from Simon Edwards Labs, while other products rated A, AA, or even AAA. Of three tests by AV-Comparatives, it earned one passing grade and two grades a notch above passing. The three-part test by AV-Test Institute maxes out at 18 points; McAfee’s score improved since my original review, with 5.5 points for protection and a total of 17 points. Finally, in the banking Trojan test and all-types tests by MRG-Effitas, it simply failed.
My lab test score aggregation algorithm yields 7.9 of 10 possible points for McAfee. Kaspersky took a near-perfect 9.8, while Norton and Bitdefender Internet Security 2017 came out at 9.7 and 9.4 respectively.
Tumblr media
This year’s McAfee products use an entirely new antivirus detection method called Real Protect. Real Protect is focused on behavior, so as to catch even zero-day malware. Like Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus, when it sees an unknown file behaving suspiciously, it starts journaling that file’s actions and queries the cloud for advice. If cloud-based analysis red-flags the file, McAfee rolls back all of its actions.
In my own hands-on malware-blocking test, McAfee scored 9.2 of 10 possible points. However, among the samples it missed were two well-known ransomware threats. I watched one of them as it busily encrypted documents on the test system, without a peep from McAfee about its behavior. Webroot scored a perfect 10 against this same malware collection.
McAfee also protected against 85 percent of the 100 malware-hosting URLs I threw at it, mostly by diverting the browser from the dangerous URL. The average score among current products is 75 percent, so McAfee is above average here.
I score phishing protection by matching a product’s detection rate against that of Symantec Norton Security Premium and of the protection built into Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. Last year, McAfee came very close to matching Norton’s score. This year it lagged 44 percentage points behind Norton. Chrome and Internet Explorer beat out McAfee, as well. Don’t turn off your browser’s phishing protection!
Other Shared Features There’s a lot more to the nominally standalone antivirus; hence “Plus” in the name. For starters, it includes a firewall. In testing, the firewall correctly stealthed all ports and fended off Web-based attacks. Rather than bombard the user with queries about network permissions, it handles program control internally. When I tested its ability to withstand direct attack, I found that I could terminate and disable more than half of its essential Windows services.
The WebAdvisor component identifies dangerous downloads and steers the browser away from malicious or fraudulent sites. In addition, it marks up search results with icons identifying safe, iffy, and dangerous links. This edition adds protection for typosquatting, and it works. When I entered www.paypla.com it asked if perhaps I really wanted PayPal.
Using the My Home Network feature, you can set up a trust relationship between any and all of the PCs on your network that have McAfee installed. It doesn’t even have to be the same version of McAfee. Once you’ve taken that step, you can use one PC to remotely monitor others, and even remotely fix configuration problems.
Mac and mobile support is the same across all of the McAfee product line. Mac support is little more than antivirus, firewall, and WebAdvisor. There’s no antivirus under iOS, but you can do things like locate and wipe the device, back up contacts, and capture a photo of someone who found or stole your phone. On Android, you get a full-featured security utility with antivirus, app ratings, anti-theft, call and text filtering, and more. And once again, there’s no limit on how many devices you can add.
Other shared bonus features include the QuickClean tune-up tool, a vulnerability scanner, and a secure deletion file shredder. You can also access a number of security-related online resources directly from the program.

See How We Test Security Software
True Key Password Manager With your McAfee subscription you also get a license for the True Key password manager. Read my review for a full description of this password manager and its unusual collection of authentication options.
True Key’s biggest claim to fame is its comprehensive multi-factor authentication choices. It does support the expected strong master password, but you have many other options. You can have it send an email each time you log in; clicking a link in the email allows login to proceed. More conveniently, you can associate a mobile device with True Key, and authenticate by swiping a notification.
Tumblr media
Even better, if you’re using a device with a camera, you can authenticate using facial recognition, and if a finger print reader is available, you can add that, too. If you worry that James Bond might spoof facial recognition with a photo of you, just enable enhanced facial recognition, which requires turning your head.
Most password managers warn that if you lose your master password, you’re hosed; you have to start over. That’s actually good; it means that the company can’t access your data even if subpoenaed. True Key retains that same zero-knowledge benefit, but doesn’t leave you in the lurch if you forget the password. As long as you’ve enabled Advanced authentication, which requires a trusted device plus two other factors, you can authenticate using all the other factors and then reset your master password.
True Key is a separate download, but getting it installed is easy. After you run the installer, it adds itself as an extension to Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. At this time, it can import passwords stored insecurely in the browsers. It can also import from LastPass 4.0 Premium and Dashlane 4.
As with most password managers, True Key captures credentials as you log in to secure sites and plays back saved credentials as needed. The first time, it actively walks you through the process. You can also click on tiles for Google, Facebook, PayPal, and so on, entering your credentials directly. Clicking the TrueKey toolbar icon doesn’t bring up a menu the way it does with many other products. Rather, it displays the main True Key window, from which you can launch any of your saved sites.
You can save personal details in the Wallet, but True Key doesn’t use these to fill web forms. The main reason to do this is that the Wallet items sync across all your devices. The same is true of secure notes.
Here’s a rare feature. If your PC has a forward-facing camera, you can configure it to unlock your Windows account using True Key’s facial recognition. True Key doesn’t have advanced features like secure sharing, automatic password updates, or password inheritance, but it’s far ahead of the pack when it comes to multi-factor authentication.
Tepid Parental Controls One bonus you get by upgrading from McAfee’s antivirus to this suite is a parental control system, but it’s really limited. For each child’s Windows account, you can choose content categories for blocking, set a schedule for Internet use, and view a report of activity for each child or all children. That’s the extent of it.
The reviewer’s guide for this product notes that parental controls may not work properly in a virtual machine. That’s unusual, but I made a point of testing on a physical system.
To get started, you set a password, so the kids can’t just turn off monitoring. The configuration window lists all Windows user accounts and invites you to configure parental control for each one that belongs to a child. As with previous versions, setting up parental control for a child’s account that has Administrator privileges triggers a big warning. And yet, many parents do give older children Administrator accounts, so as to avoid constantly having to jump and supply an admin password any time the child wants to install a new game. Most other parental control systems don’t have this limitation.
Tumblr media
To configure the content filter, you first choose one of five age ranges. Doing so pre-configures which of the 20 content categories should be blocked. Rather than the usual list with checkboxes, McAfee displays a list of blocked categories and another list of allowed categories, with arrow buttons to move items back and forth between the lists.
I couldn’t disable the content filter with the three-word network command that neutered parental control in Total Defense Unlimited Internet Security and Alvosecure Parental Control . However, I found quite a few truly raunchy sites that the content filter didn’t block.
McAfee replaces naughty content in the browser with a warning message that explains why the page was blocked. For HTTPS sites, or in unsupported browsers, it displays that warning as a popup, leaving the browser to show an error message. The kids won’t get past it by using a secure anonymizing proxy. Note, though, that Check Point ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2017 goes even further, with the ability to filter content even over an HTTPS connection.
In addition to categories, McAfee offers to block sites with “inappropriate images or language” from appearing in child’s search results. A similar feature in Trend Micro Internet Security covered up many such images. However, I couldn’t find a single instance where McAfee did anything to block erotic images in search.
The time scheduler is as awkward as ever. It does let you create a weekly grid-style schedule of Internet access, in half-hour increments. Most parental control systems that use a scheduling grid let you block out rectangles on the schedule by dragging. For example, with one drag you could block from midnight to 6am every day of the week. McAfee’s system forces you to drag on just one day at a time. The grid is so tall that you can only select about seven hours at a time, and it doesn’t auto-scroll when you hit the edge. This feature could be so much easier to use! On the bright side, time scheduling doesn’t rely on the system clock, so the kids can’t fool it.
The simple parental report lists all domains blocked, along with their categories. It also logs all attempts to use the Internet when the schedule doesn’t allow it.
And there you have it. That’s the totality of parental control in this suite. It’s limited, awkward, and not entirely effective. If you actually need a suite that includes high-end parental control, look to ZoneAlarm, Kaspersky Internet Security, or Norton.
Broad-Spectrum Spam Filter With so many users getting spam filtered by the email provider, the value of local spam filtering is on the decline. But if you’re one of that diminishing group whose email provider doesn’t offer spam filtering, a local filter can be essential.
McAfee’s spam filter integrates with Outlook, Windows Mail, and Windows Live Mail. In these email clients, it adds a handy toolbar and automatically tosses spam messages in their own folder. You can still use it if you’re a fan of Eudora or The Bat!, but you’ll have to define a message rule to sift out the spam.
Tumblr media
McAfee filters spam from POP3 and Exchange email accounts. It doesn’t handle IMAP accounts in your email client the way ZoneAlarm does. However, in an unusual twist, it has the ability to filter webmail accounts directly. Webmail filtering was a pretty amazing feature when first introduced years ago, but these days it’s hard to find a webmail provider that doesn’t implement its own spam filtering. You can view messages filtered out by this feature right in the application and, if necessary, rescue any valid mail that was misfiled.
There are quite a few options for configuring the spam filter. To start, there are five levels of protection, from Minimal, which allows more spam but doesn’t throw away valid mail, to Restricted, which blocks all messages unless the sender is on your Friends list. I’d advise leaving it set to the default Balanced level.
You can define custom spam filtering rules, but I can’t imagine why any user would take the time to do this. The Friends list identifies addresses or domains that should always reach the Inbox. You can manually edit this list, add friends from the email client toolbar, or add all your contacts to the Friends list. There’s also an option to automatically block messages written using character sets for languages you don’t speak.
Just to see how it works, I set up filtering for the Yahoo mail account I use in testing. When I filled in the address, McAfee automatically selected the correct mail server and port. However, after I entered my password and tried to add the account, McAfee reported that it was the wrong password.
In fact, the password was correct, but Yahoo rejected the login and sent me an email warning about an attempt to connect by a “less-secure app.” In order to let McAfee do its job, I had to dig into Yahoo settings and enable access by less-secure apps.
If you do need spam filtering at the local level, McAfee can handle it. Where many products limit protection to POP3 accounts, McAfee can filter Exchange accounts and even pull spam from your webmail.
Minor Performance Hit During my extensive testing, I didn’t get any feeing that McAfee was slowing me down. That’s not surprising; these days it’s uncommon for security suites to exhibit a noticeable performance impact. My hands-on test did reveal some actions that took longer with McAfee installed.
Most of us don’t reboot often—perhaps never except when an update requires it. My boot time test showed just a 3 percent increase in the time from the start of boot until the system was ready for use, so if you do have to reboot, you’ll hardly notice McAfee’s presence.
Given that the new Real Protect real-time antivirus scans files when they try to execute, not on just any file access, I expected minimal impact in my file move and copy test. This test repeatedly times a script that moves and copies a mammoth collection of various-sized files between drives. I was surprised to see a 44 percent increase in the time required for this test. On the bright side, another test that zips and unzips the same file collection didn’t have any measurable impact.
While there’s some variation in the results of this test, a couple products come out on top. Webroot and Trend Micro exhibited almost no slowdown in the performance test.
Stuck in the Middle With You For $20 per year more than McAfee’s antivirus, McAfee Internet Security gives you innovative password management along with parental control and antispam features that you may not need. Everything else—firewall, remote management, support for macOS, iOS, and Android, and more—is present in the antivirus. For another $10 you could upgrade to McAfee’s top-of-the-line suite. This suite remains stuck in the middle, with no compelling reason to buy it rather than one of McAfee’s other products.
Other than the cross-platform bonus, this suite is comparable to Bitdefender Internet Security and Kaspersky Internet Security. These two suites earn fantastic scores from the independent testing labs, their components are capable across the board, and they offer a comparable smorgasbord of bonus features. They’re our Editors’ Choice winners for entry-level security suite.

Can the Body Self-Heal from Cancer?
I am quite certain that the content of this newsletter will stir up controversy and will hopefully provoke a new way of thinking about cancer. I have seen too many so called experts, healers and well meaning persons make statements such as “give the body everything it needs and it will heal” in relation to alternative cancer treatment. This concept may be true for certain illnesses, diseases and injuries but is it true for cancer? Is there an innate self-healing system or mechanism for cancer? Is cancer even a health or nutritional deficiency related condition? This newsletter will critically examine the idea that we can self-heal from cancer and that flooding the body with all the nutrients it needs will facilitate the process.
Our body is designed to self-heal from all sorts of physical injuries, microbial infections, emotional trauma and most degenerative diseases can be reversed through diet and lifestyle interventions. The doctor is helpful in setting fractured bones, closing wounds, preventing infections and managing pain. Doctors have not been too effective at treating cancer using conventional methods such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. The cure for cancer has been elusive since the war on cancer was declared in 1971 by President Richard Nixon and will likely remain so with the new “moonshot initiative” launched by Joe Biden. The bottom line is that the current drug model for healing cancer is too narrow in its approach. Healing from cancer requires a multi-targeted approach where all tumor growth stimulating factors are addressed while interfering with cancer cell survival and cell division.
The reality is that cancer is very new to human evolution and that we have not had time to adapt and develop systems to prevent and fight this condition. Cancer is a new threat to our wellbeing and survival. It is a byproduct of our modern, stressful, industrial, pharmaceutical, chemical and polluted way of life. Cancer is primarily caused by environmental factors that induce mitochondrial DNA damage in stem cells. This damage results in uncontrolled and disorganized cellular growth which is not unlike the process of wound healing. Cancer is truly the canary in the coal mine and rising cancer rates should be a major alarm bell signaling that something is very wrong.
Cancer is not due to a failure of our immune system while recognizing that some cancers are virally induced. Cancer exists within, progresses and can kill the healthiest of us. Setting aside smoking and alcohol consumption as risk factors, cancer seems to affect some of the healthiest of us while sparing the least healthy.. Experts believe that it takes from 20 to 50 years for cancer to develop. This makes it difficult for researchers to identify specific triggers. Cancer promoting factors can be diet, stress, inflammation and obesity. One cancer trigger that appears to be significant and fits within our understanding is antibiotic use. Antibiotics are known to damage mitochondrial DNA. Chemicals in our food, skin care products, household cleaners, fire retardants, pesticides are all potential triggers for cancer. Even the quality of the air we breathe and water we drink can be a trigger.
Cancer is not present in all of us at all times. There is no scientific evidence for this. A normal immune system will not see or initiate an attack on cancer cells or tumors. The only way this can happen is to completely unleash the immune system with the use of checkpoint inhibitors. These drugs are called PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitors which allow the immune system to attack cancer cells but normal cells are also open to attack so these drugs have serious limitations. Cancer cells, like normal cells, express proteins on their outer membrane that signal the immune system to keep away.
My objective is to counteract the belief that supplements, juicing, coffee enemas and eating a “healthy” diet will reverse cancer. Fast growing and dividing cancer cells require lots of nutrients beyond glucose. Cancer cells require amino acids, folate and B12 to synthesize proteins, cancer cells need antioxidants to manage a high level of oxidative stress, cancer cells need iron and copper much more than normal cells. In other words, fast dividing and growing cancer cells have a voracious appetite for nutrients. The NORI protocol targets a key nutrient, methionine by restricting dietary intake. The NORI protocol limits supplements to only D3, iodine and zinc. In a sense, the NORI protocol is anti-nutritional from the viewpoint of the cancer cell.
What diet alone can accomplish in cancer treatment is limited. This statement is a little different from the typical oncologist’s view which is that diet makes no difference at all. Cancer patients are told by doctors to eat anything they want. Eliminating all refined sugar, animal products and highly processed foods is definitely helpful. Achieving low blood glucose and insulin is important and may slow down tumor growth. Greatly increasing intake of fruits and vegetables has many advantages. NORI utilizes a methionine restricted diet in its nutritional support program. However, the benefit of a methionine restricted diet is limited until a method to completely deplete all methionine or block its availability is discovered that is safe and effective. For now, methionine restriction serves as a useful tool within a more comprehensive program.
Healing from cancer requires the simultaneous application of nutrition, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, stress reduction and lifestyle modifications. It is both an inside and outside job. Our body can not do it alone. Agents must be incorporated that directly target and kill cancer cells. All tumor growth factors must be addressed to achieve a favorable balance between growth and inhibition. Hormonally driven cancers must be treated with appropriate pharmaceutical agents in many cases. This is especially important in ER+ breast cancers.
The notion that the human body can self-heal from cancer is misguided due to a lack of a clear understanding of the true nature of cancer and the limits of our innate defense systems. Believing that we can self-heal from cancer is wishful thinking and at worst, delusional. It is true that psycho-emotional factors play a critical role in effective treatment of cancer. This is part of the inside job. From the outside, natural and synthetic agents are necessary to kill cancer cells before they take over our entire body. Diet, mind-body work, acupuncture, exercise, meditation and positive thinking are all useful tools but are never enough to overcome tumor progression.
There is unfortunately no internal system in our body to fight cancer once it has been initiated. Conventional treatments have limited value and one must adopt a comprehensive program that includes everything outside mainstream medicine that is scientifically supported. There is a lot of snake oil in the field of alternative cancer therapies and unscrupulous companies ready to take your hard earned money. Be very cautious and conduct objective research before investing your financial resources in ineffective or dangerous treatments. NORI is always available to help one navigate through the confusion, overload and sorting out al the contradictory information.
Happy and Healthy Holidays!
NORI offers no-cost consultations for anyone interested in our support program. The NORI approach is continually assisting cancer patients by incorporating a set of powerful tools that can be easily implemented from home and at minimal cost.

Can I get Classic Car insurance?
I'm 16 and have been looking at a lot of classic cars (specifically a 1971-1973 Mustang Mach 1) and ran into a bit of a dilemma... My dad is a car dealer, owning his own used dealership, so he has insurance that covers all the cars, rather than just one. But, you have to be 18 to be under that policy, so I can't be on it, and I've heard that unless you're under you parents policy, you can't have classic car insurance until you're 25. But, I heard that you can get liability only (Which is my state's minimum coverage), so I was wondering if that was true. Would I be able to get just liability on a classic car? Or should I just cut out all the complicated stuff and get a modern car?""

Whose insurance company I should contact for the car accident?
I am involved a car accident 5 months ago. There are four cars hit from rear one by one. I am the second car and have no fault in this accident. However, I did not have a collision insurance, so I should look for reimbursement by myself. I asked the insurance company of the car hit me, they said their insured driver has no fault(indicated in accident report), so they cannot pay for me. And they asked me to contact the company of the fourth car. Is this illegal? Cause in our country, no matter in what reason, the car hit you from rear should pay for you directly. And if their insured driver has no fault, they can ask payment from the insurance company of the car hit them. Anyone could help me? I will very appreciate.""

How much would my insurance premium rise be? Car accident.?
On the interstate going home from work, it started raining just as I entered, really hard. Then I saw this white car in front of me, who stepped on his brakes, and as soon as I saw that, I stepped on mines. I couldn't swerve to the right where the gravel and grass were cause the white car was already headed that way , since it was raining my brakes didn't help and instead my car slid and his the back left corner of the white cars, and then I hitted a gray car from behind. My car is messed up really bad and cannot be repaired. When I gained enough sense to realized what just happened, there was 5 cars that had stopped, but mines was the only one badly damaged, unrepairable. Nobody was injured, and everyone's car was still drivable. The officer basically said it was my fault, cause I couldn't stop MY car from hitting the other two. Now I have to pay a ticket of $165 and my insurance will be paying for the other car's problems.""

How much would a mustang cost for a 17 year old? ?
So I've tried googling this a lot of times but it hasn't really helped me so I'm just gonna ask myself... First off, I'm 17 but will be 18 in 2 months maximum. (not that it would really matter, but just putting that out there.) and I've had insurance on my parents car for about a year and a half now; never had any wrecks or anything. And their car is a year like 2009 Pontiac G8, V6. But I only have to pay $80. And I do believe my mother told me that we have Allstate... But as for the car I'm hoping to buy, it's nothing fancy. Just a 2000 mustang. It's not a convertible. I'm just hoping it won't be anymore expensive than what I pay now. And I've also had my license since I was 16. So I think that covers all the info but it'd really help if someone gave me like a range of what I might be paying for that. Thanks! :)""

Car Insurance for a friend?
I have a friend (single mom of 2) and she needs to get cheap car insurance on her ford explore. She let it lapse for 6 months and now her loan company wants to repo her car, even though she has made every car payment. (she leases her car)...(kinda like rent to own) She got a quote from my agent, but it was going to be way too much for her. I am guessing since she still owes on the car she has to have full coverage. And can only afford less than $100.00 a month on it. She is a renter, she is going to school, and has bad credit. Are there any companies out there that she can get a good deal or at least get coverage for 6 months and re-apply with a better company?? The only one I have found out there was the general.com. And they seem to be ok...but I don't know what other options she has. Thanks for reading this!! 10 points to the best answer!!""

Help! Accident on motorcycle with no insurance.?
I was recently involved in an accident on my motorcycle with a Hertz rental car. I purchased the bike 9 days before the accident and was planning on adding the motorcycle to my car insurance policy. No one was hurt in the accident but a police report was filled out at the request of the rental company. I was wondering if insurance companies possibly have some kind of grace period for accidents a certain number of days before the policy is added, or if need be, transferred to the motorcycle. The rear bumper of the rental car was dented and the right rear lights were damaged. My motorcycle is fine. I live in California.""

Has you health insurance premium cost gone up or down?
Individuals buying health insurance on their own will see their premiums tumble next year in New York State as changes under the federal health care law take effect, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Wednesday. State insurance regulators say they have approved rates for 2014 that are at least 50 percent lower on average than those currently available in New York. Beginning in October, individuals in New York City who now pay $1,000 a month or more for coverage will be able to shop for health insurance for as little as $308 monthly. With federal subsidies, the cost will be even lower. Supporters of the new health care law, the Affordable Care Act, credited the drop in rates to the online purchasing exchanges the law created, which they say are spurring competition among insurers that are anticipating an influx of new customers. The law requires that an exchange be started in every state.""

Using Pandas to Make Dealing With DBs Less Of a Hassle
Code Snippet Corner
Manually opening and closing cursors? Iterating through DB output by hand? Remembering which function is the actual one that matches the Python data structure you're gonna be using? There has to be a better way! There totally is. One of Pandas' most useful abilities is easy I/O. Whether it's a CSV, JSON, an Excel file, or a database - Pandas gets you what you want painlessly. In fact,I'd say that even if you don't have the spare bandwidth at the moment to rewire your brain to learn all the wonderful ways Pandas lets you manipulate data (array-based programming generally isn't the first paradigm people learn), then it's STILL worth using just for the I/O. Grab your data with one of its delicious one-liners, and once it's in a Dataframe there's have a method to convert it to practically any combination of native Python data structures that you want (lists of lists? Lists of dictionaries? Lots of other stuff? You've got it!). Here we'll be looking at interacting with a database with Pandas, because that's what I was finishing up when I saw Todd texted me that a lot of the people who wind up on the site are searching for Pandas stuff. So, for our purposes, let's say you're doing Python stuff with a MySQL database.I'm also assuming you're using Linux (including via Windows Subsystem for Linux, which is what I use in order to have Ubuntu on my Windows laptop), because I've never done this with Windows. Annoyingly, there's more than one potential connector - I generally use pymysql, for no particular reason. Installing this involves an extra step - telling pip or conda to install it won't do the whole thing. Annoying, but them's the breaks. sudo apt-get install python3-pymysql -y Should get you there. I remember fussing with this every time I have to do it ona new machine. You also have to install a mysql-connector, for reasons I won't pretend to understand. conda install mysql-connector-python -y I've never actually done this with pip, but I assume it'd be pip install mysql-connector If that doesn't work, try pip install --allow-external mysql-connector-python mysql-connector-python WE'RE ALMOST DONE INSTALLING THINGS! Last, but not least, is a lovely little thing called SQLAlchemy. Remember when I said I didn't actually know anything about pymysql and its relative advantages and disadvantages to other MySQL connectors for Python? Part of the reason for that is that SQLAlchemy, as the name implies, allows you to MAGICALLY wrap Python SQL connectors at a higher level of abstraction and not have to deal with the particulars. So, grab a little chunk of Philosopher's Stone, and - oh, it's actually a default Anaconda package. BUT, if you're in a fresh environment (or not using conda)... conda install -c anaconda sqlalchemy -y (always remember the little -y at the end. That ensures that you can walk away while it installs and it'll be done when you get back, instead of finishing the long process of whatever's happening when you first tell it to install and then waiting to start on the next long process that takes place after you hit y.) OR pip install sqlalchemy (that IS one of the nice things about pip! Doesn't needyou to confirm). So, to review, before we start Pythoning... sudo apt-get install python3-pymysql -y conda install mysql-connector-python -y conda install -c anaconda sqlalchemy -y OR sudo apt-get install python3-pymysql -y pip install mysql-connector pip install sqlalchemy Cool! Ready to learn about SQLAlchemy? Well, you won't - this is about Pandas! We're going YET ANOTHER LEVEL OF ABSTRACTION HIGHER. SQLAlchemy is just what Pandas uses to connect to databases. Aaaand one (possible) last step. If you're doing this with a locally-installed db, you might have to sudo service mysql start (like, every time you do dev work on it. At least on my machine. Your mileage may vary) On to the actual Python So, what does all this do for us? Well, first off, it wasn't THAT much - and you only have to do it once (per machine (really per environment per machine (you are taking advantage of conda envs or virtualenvs, right?))). But what it really lets us skip all the implementation details and focus on the actual logic of what we're doing. That's really what both SQL and Pandas are all about- they wed short, declarative bits of code to highly optimized libraries underneath the hood. Relational Database Management Systems sit on top of code that's been optimized for decades, turning your short queries into highly efficient compiled code. Pandas takes advantage of scientific computing libraries for doing matrix operations that have been around since before there was an internet. Drill down deep enough in Pandas and you'll actually find FORTRAN code that was originally written to simulate nuclear explosions. Our whole goal is to just focus on our data manipulation via SQL and Python's scientific computing family - and we don't want to add a bunch of additional cognitive load from worrying about cursors. Okay, I lied - NOW on to the actual Python python import pandas as pd import pymysql from sqlalchemy import create_engine From all the database connector stuff we installed, we actually just need ONE function - and then it's pure blissful operations on data from here on out. create_engine() will create a connection for us, and then we'll use that as an argument to Pandas functions that talk to the DB. You might have to reopen it sometimes. whatever. First, let's make a string that describes our database. Note that normally youshouldn't actually store this directly in your code (IT will totally be mad atyou), but for our purposes let's include it. The format is: dialect+driver://username:password@host:port/database So, since we're using mysql, and the pymysql package, we'd start with mysql+pymysql://username:password@host:port/database The rest is fairly straightforward. So, if we've got the user "analyst" with the password "badsecuritykills" with a local MySQL running on port 3306 (pretty sure you don't have to specify a port if it's localhost, but bear with me), and the database itself is named terrible_purchases, it'd be: mysql+pymysql://analyst:badsecuritykills@localhost:3306/terrible_purchases And now let's actually make our connection! cnx = create_engine('mysql+pymysql://analyst:badsecuritykills@localhost:3306/terrible_purchases) Done! Now Pandas can read and write from our database. If you don't wanna have to see a whole bunch of extraneous stuff, I'd also add the flag echo=False (create_engine has a ton of useful little flags, letting you do stuff like automatically strip unicode that your database might not be able to read). Behold! We can write an SQL query and then get a Pandas dataframe with those exact parameters. We can rapidly prototype without worrying that the reason our query isn't working is that we forgot some fussy intermediary stage. We can get stuff wrong and experiment! Reading a table is easy as: df = pd.io.sql.sql_query("SELECT * FROM cursed_items", cnx) Done in one line! Writing is just as easy (with a teeeensy little asterisk, that I'll probably talk about in the future). Let's say we dusted off an old CSV with more cursed items that aren't in our database. After we've loaded it (and maybe done some cleaning) newCursedItemsDF.to_sql(name='cursed_items', con=cnx, if_exists='append') The if_exists flag adds a ton of flexibility. You can create a whole new DB table from a dataframe, and that's actually the default behavior. For our case,we appended - but there's other times when we might want to replace, for instance. Final Addendum So, this is a super useful workflow for doing interactive analytics work with stuff that's on a database. It's also quite useful for quick-and-dirty scripts, or for prototyping the logic of something that'll be expanded upon later. And, ah, bigger stuff too - especially if there's gonna be really complex transformations that. As long as the data can fit in memory (RAM), Pandas is pretty awesome. That being said, there are times when you'd actually want to deal with the levels we bypassed here. Everything has tradeoffs. One example would be that all those compiled Linear Algebra libraries that Pandas sit on top of have a massive memory footprint, and AWS Lambda charges you according to memory usage. I'm pretty sure there are also use cases where this method of handling the lower-level nitty-gritty of database interactions (ie, by mostly not handling it) will cause problems. But at that point, we're dealing with the difference between Data Science & Data Engineering.

Tumblr media
