today's incoherent nap thought is that The Serial Killer is really some type of lichen. which is to say: it requires NOT ONLY a person who engages in the behavior of killing other people in a specific way. it crucially is an interaction between that person and social, cultural, etc concepts, media reactions, constructs about The Ultimate Criminal, & mental illness/trauma/cause & effect.

it's an actually one of the best examples of a construct that's SOOO specific to a certain time & place and yet we don't see it like that because it's OUR time and place (broadly). but it's so important to see that The Serial Killer is a lichen. because it exposes almost everything else that is that too. who among us has not had a conversation about prison abolition which drags out this concept as some kind of proof that Some People Ontologically Need To Be Removed From Society! who along us has not witnessed people try to come up with some concrete list of Red Flags that someone may at some point BECOME The Serial Killer despite the fact that someone fundamentally hasn't murdered someone until they engage in the behavior of murdering someone?

i mostly just have TF2 trivia, as its history has always been something ive always been fascinated with, so i hope these suffice:

The Pyro's Beta Head: While 8 of the 9 classes had their heads redone throughout development (to better show off Valve's new facial flex system), only the Pyro was left untouched, leaving them as the only class to still have their beta head.

Reference Posing Medics: In "Trailer 2", there are two Medics who are in their reference pose, during the first-person sequence of the Scout running through RED's base. While their role isn't clear, one likely theory is that they were meant to be camera positions for shots that were ultimately removed, in favour of the Scouts perspective, and Valve just forgot to remove or hide them. The second Medic even turns to look at the Scout as he runs by, maybe further proving their original purpose.

The Teaser Corkboard: While we don't have a clear idea as to what Valve had been planning with the "Teaser Corkboard", one likely theory is that it was created for the proposed update that would've included both Asteroid and Cactus Canyon, due to the few mentions of "Future", the blueprint of the rocket engine from Half Life 2 Episode 2, and Poopy Joe. Also worth noting, the two posters that were added with the corkboard share similar styles Asteroid and Cactus Canyon.

The Balls of Steel Taunt: Originally, The Love & War update was meant to include a lot more taunts than what ultimately shipped. One of the few to get scrapped is a taunt called "Balls of Steel", where the initiator would dare other players to kick them in the groin. While we don't have footage of this taunt, we do have voiceline files that reference the taunt's intention, as well as the name. The few files that remain were reused for other contexts, such as the Soldiers Conga taunt, where his "Ooh!" and "Ahh!" lines were originally his pain sounds for the taunt.

I honestly.. don't want it to be trans day of visibility tomorrow lol. I'm so tired of the pressure of the arbitrary selfie. I'm struggling with body image issues anyway. I failed my self imposed running task of taking one (1) actual self portrait per year. I just can't do it, I can't stand it.

I'm tired of fighting to exist, I'm tired of seeing dehumanizing shit every day on social media or the news being on in the background somewhere. I'm tired of going out of my way to piss in the woods when I'm out and about because I feel it's the safer option, rather than because I like to. I'm tired.

Even just with something like body image issues, it's a fucking fight. It is so hard to find any sort of positivity for transmasc bodies unless you're 110lbs and look androgynous regardless of what the fuck you do (or don't do). No one prepares you for the fact that if you got a lot of reassurance about your body pre-transition, maybe you got compliments on a regular basis, or had a group of friends you bounced outfit ideas off of, or whatever; that goes the fuck away when you transition! Maybe it doesn't for everyone, but it sure as fuck did for me.

I'm just... I'm *tired*. Granted, today has been a very bad day regardless. The reef tank pump died for good, the PVC plumbing cracked and shot water everywhere and I can't fix it. I missed getting to go hang out with people I wanted to. Nothing wants to go right or work or behave. My depression is rough. Shit just sucks!!

I'm done bitching I guess. For now. Fuck.

#I can't remember exactly where I heard this but I know it was #on a tiktok by someone who had an expertise of some sort like house cleaning or home renovation or sthg #but I actually thought it was an excellent piece of advice for many areas of life and it was #'Remember: if it's making your life easier it's probably making someone else's life harder' #like i think that's just a good thing to keep in mind social skills wise when youre trying to be a good friend or coworker or roomie or wtv #the ones you like being around are the ones who are conscientious about the amount of burden they're being or sharing #or at the very least showing interest in making sure your stress is at a manageable level. especially before dumping on you #idk I started thinking about this because I was defining an energy vampire to myself #I think energy vampires are the people who are always using you as a release valve or are just incredibly self-absorbed. Their problems #are (in their minds) always worse than everyone else's. Essentially it's main character syndrome. and so if it's not a give-and-take #You end up drained/wanting to avoid them. ANYWAYS trying not to be one doesn't mean you always have to feel guilty/petrified of being needy #but just trying to be aware of and to show appreciation for when someone is probably helping you out with stuff #and to offer to do things for them in return if you're capable as well #p
