英語の「久し振り／暫く振り」の訳し方について

英訳の「久し振り／暫く振り」を調べるとおよそ四つくらいのいい回しが見付かる。

間隔と現在完了形の否定

日本語の「久し振り／暫く振り」のイメージに、直接、合致する言葉は英語にはない。だから英語に訳す際にはいい回しで特有の意味合いをカバーしなくてはならない。

日本語の「久し振り／暫く振り」は過去の時間だけではなくて振り返った人の感慨も含んでいる。一つの情緒として物事を思い出す気持ちがしっかり得られるかどうかが重要だろう。言葉自体は日本語から英語へと置き換えられない代わりに文章から相応しいイメージを生み出すように仕向ける。

例えば「あの頃から時間が大分と経った」というような仕方で纏めると一般的に「久し振り／暫く振り」の情緒に近付いて行くし、特有の意味合いが文章で揃い易いと考える。

24話のルナティックと虎徹＆バーナビーの共闘は熱い展開でしたね。

敵との共闘は、王道の激熱展開ですよね！

虎徹とバーナビーの戦い方って、もうすでに固まっているじゃないですか。そこに新しく別の武器ではないですけれども、ルナティックという新しい要素が加わるので、戦い方ももちろん変わっていく。そこを描くのは面白かったですね。「長距離武器を使えるのはいいよな～」と思いながら作業していました

Interviewer: The joint battle between Lunatic, Kotetsu and Barnaby in episode 24 was a hot plot twist.

Kase: Uniting with the enemy is the way to go for a super hot plot twist right!

The way Kotetsu and Barnaby fight is already solid, isn't it? And while it's not a new weapon, adding Lunatic is a new factor, so of course their way of fighting will change. It was interesting to depict. I was thinking, "That's right, long range weapons will be used here."

Interviewer: For once and for all, I'd like to hear. What happened to Lunatic in the end?

Kase: The important thing is that no one knows his identity until the end. Kotetsu and Barnaby don't know that Lunatic's true identity is Yuri. He fell in flames and disappeared, but... I'll leave it to your imagination to determine what happened after that.

本章から語彙：

どうしちまったんだ　most likely a slangy contraction of どうして + しまう + のだ。 if どうして means, roughly, ‘what’s wrong?’ the addition of しまう makes this interjection/question an even stronger expression of regret, pity, shock, disbelief, etc. and の adds a sense of ‘you’d better explain yourself’ here. though しちまう, to end up doing or to have done (a contraction of してしまう) is also a possibility. both conclusions i came to are apparently 男言葉 (おとこことば、'male' speech). this is hard to translate and other interpretations are possible.

告白　〖 こくはく 〗　a confession (of love, of sins); professing one's feelings.

特別扱い（する）〖 とくべつあつかい 〗　preferential treatment, discrimination.

姿　〖 すがた 〗　figure, form, shape.

フリ　pretense, an act. from 振りをする, which means 'to pretend'.

飼いならす　〖 かいならす 〗　to tame (usu. of an animal) or domesticate. less often spelled 飼い慣らす。 ｢飼」は「domesticate」を意味できます。

道具　〖 どうぐ 〗　tool; means (to an end); furniture. ｢道」は「street, road, way」を意味できます。i learned the synonym 器具（きぐ）a few months ago -- it seems... less emotionally charged and more receptive than this word.「器」refers to a vessel or a capacity.

どうしちまったんだ!!?　おーい！ what the hell’s the matter with you!!? hey!!

気付かないフリはもうやめろよ。あの人嘘つきだ。 we both know you can see the truth; just fucking drop the act already. that person is a liar. (literally: as for not noticing-pretense, stop {rude, abrupt} already...)

そういう意味で僕を一番特別扱いしてたのはあの人だ。 in that sense, that person has been giving me more special treatment [than anyone else has].

僕は道具じゃない。 i’m not a means to an end.

他人が”僕”を飼い慣らすことはできない。 other people? they cannot tame me. (literally: as for other people, taming me can’t be done.) モブの本当の姿を知ればあの人は僕を解放するよ。 once that person knows mob’s true form, he will release me.
