It's mostly the fault of poor editorial practices that B&R is so heavily misaligned continuity-wise w/ the main batman book. But walk with me for a minute:
You are Damian Wayne. You are 14 years old and have had one of the worst years of your life last year. Which is saying a lot.
Your brother, one of the people you were closest to, got shot in the head and forgot who you were. Your best friend went to space for a week and came back 3/4 years older than you, taking away your previously established dynamic and leaving you to have to bond all over again w/ a new one. You may or may not have gone wayyy too far with your new superhero team, who now all hate you, because you fucked up big time*
And worst of all, when you do try to do the right thing, you end up forced to watch Alfred, a father figure to you, the only one at your birthday that year, the person who has been so patient, loving and trusting with you, even when you probably didnt deserve it...die. you watch him die, and feel it's all your fault.
And your dad never corrects you on that last point. So you run away.
First to your mom who can tell something's up with you, she knows you don't give up that easy, you decide not to stay with her because you remembered how actually, neither of your parents are good at communicating with you despite their best efforts, so now you're 14 and flying solo.
And you do fly solo. For a while. Make new friends, new enemies. You think you're better off for it. You've got your best friend and your brother back. They're not around as much. It's fine.
And eventually your dad tells you that it's not your fault that Alfred died. Bit late but it's appreciated. Really. There's a bit of a hiccup where you get possessed by a demon and wage war against your father but after that, all in all, you two are...together again.
You start to think maybe you want to give him another chance, for the two of you to be father and son.
And in a change of pace, it works out! It's going good, mostly. He insists you go to highschool, you resist, feel like he wants you to be something that you're not (wants you to be normal), but eventually you acquiesce for your own reasons. He cheers you on at soccer and nosies around at your fundraising events with the other parents and gives you a stern talking to about your choice of girlfriend. Because he cares.
Except all the while this is going on, your dad is currently having his brain slowly taken over by an evil version of himself that he created and every time you look away he's slowly tearing your family apart (your brothers are just barely keeping it together. The ones who didn't get lobotmized that is Jesus Christ). You keep taking his side in these conflicts, for whatever reason. Maybe because he promised it would be different this time, and it isn't** and you're going to stick with him until he keeps his word for once.
But at the end of the day?
It's like your brother says. You're not the one who saves him. Broadly speaking, you've made things worse and needed others to come save you. And what else is Robin really for? You thought it was about redemption and teamwork but guess you're wrong. It's about saving your self destructive, apparently two-faced and erratic father. And you can't even do that right.
Tumblr media
* TT (2016) by Adam Glass is a racist ooc mess, but unfortunately it's still canon so I'm referencing here, though like a lot of works authors clearly wish weren't canon but are, it's been subsequently glossed over. Win? Maybe? Or not?
** again Zdarky's characterization of Damian is so outdated as to be ooc, and considering the way he constantly and explicitly uses it to illustrate Tim's strengths as robin, I'd argue there's. Also implications there. But the batshit insanity of the main batbook compared to B&R rn is crucial for this post, so I'm attempting to justify it. This time..

PRELIMINARY ROUND - DC COMICS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA
Cassandra Cain
1.) essentially her character premise is that shes more or less an unbeatable martial artist due to the way she was raised. in the comics, she's the second batgirl and had a very popular solo series from 2000-2006. However, essentially DC editorial really didn't like that a teenage chinese girl was a better hand-to-hand fighter than batman, and so mandated that she be turned into a extremely random (also remarkably racist, as she was more or less turned in a 'dragon lady' stereotype) villain, which completely derailed and destabilized her character enough for her to almost entirely disappear from comics for the next decade. this is a far more detailed write up if wanted: https://www.reddit.com/r/HobbyDrama/comments/pdue0e/american_comicsdc_comics_the_saga_of_cassandra/
2.) Following the events of One Year Later, Cass was turned into a homicidal villain who led her own league of assassins and wanted to force Tim Drake into murdering people. This was later retconned as her being drugged, brainwashed, and manipulated by deathstroke.
3.) Literally canonically a better fighter than Batman and probably most of the DC universe. Killed one person once and because of the way she grew up (never taught to speak, learned to communicate by reading body language, in order to make her the ultimate weapon), saw what he experienced as he died and then refused to ever kill again. Had an awesome initial run… And then got hit with "evil mind control" that made her go completely OOC, depopularizing her character so much that a lot of people don't even know she exists.
Barbara Gordon
1.) Was shot as angst value for Bruce and her dad, implied to be sexually assaulted in The Killing Joke with absolutely no respect for her long career as Batgirl. When Alan Moore asked if he could, the editor said "cripple the bitch." She became paralyzed from the waist down. THankfully, an actually good writer picked her up from there and then wrote one of the best stories ever written (Oracle Year One: Born from Hope). Was one of the most iconic disabled characters in comic book history, hell, as Oracle, she was definitely up there as one of the most iconic disabled characters ever as well as a fantastic character, period. There were a few moments where people kept trying to make things out of her disability and had her be shitty to other women for no reason but for the most part, she was awesome. During her time In 2011, Dan Didio and some other misogynistic/ableist comic book writers were responsible for "curing" her disability and forcing her back into Batgirl, despite her having shown absolutely no desire to do so, as part of the New 52. They also made it an editorial mandate that she couldn't have glasses, a cool secret base, and her time as Oracle couldn't be referenced. This was because those writers were nostalgic for the 60s Batman show where Babs was played by an actress they all had the hots for and couldn't accept she'd grown up and moved on. That was bad enough, but over time, she's been increasingly deaged and reduced even further to just Dick Grayson's on and off again girlfriend and a generic girlboss. Batgirl of Burnsides burn in hell.
2.) Famously fridged in 1988, which was so popular with misogynists it became canon. After almost 2 decades of being one of the only disabled characters, was rebooted to a younger, more fun version of herself whose only history is that she was fridged but not disabled by it.
3.) The Killing Joke is one of the biggest comic examples of a female character getting hurt to motivate male characters. Also tbe way different cannons will trade off who her romantic intrest is out of Batfamily is pretty disturbing ranging from Bruce Wayne in Batman the Animated series universe (ew) to Tim Drake in the Arkham games (ew). Not to mention DC now is not letting her grow out of being Batgirl taking away her legacy of other young female heroes taking up her mantle and her getting to mentor them instead forcing her into a Batgirl cycle of purgatory when she was always better as Oracle (Its a little more complicated in the new Batgirl book but its still not solving the issues in a way that feels meaningful enough to make up the damage).

So am I supposed to put a pinned post up or is it just optional?
Because I'm not sure what to put here but I see a lot of others with one... I live in Alola currently, I'm originally from Kanto, though I see Johto as my home region.
I mean I can put my trainer card post on this to make it easier to find so here's the link to that: LINK
I'm married to @trainerlynda and am dating @timetravelerpyrite.
Note to other Silvers: I AM NOT OLD
//CURRENT ARC: N/A
-----
//Ooc and character info below the cut.
RULES:
- Anon Hate is IC only and I'll delete anything that goes too far.
- Please provide English translations if sending asks with other languages.
- Please don't make me add rules on purpose.

Rather specific tags:
#Wormholes Suck - Lore relating to Silver and Touya's past.
#Lore Crumbs & #Vague Lore Crumbs - For the most part, as it says on the tin, the post mentions something that happened before the blog due to my Silver being developed before I made the blog.
#Silver's Asks - Ask posts. This also goes for any tag that has the word asks in it (ie. #Magic Anon Asks).
#Chimera's Curse - Stuff relating to the "official" reveal of Silver being a hybrid to rotumblr.
#Mew out of the bag - [ARC] In which Gio was turned into part Mewtwo. The link is a masterlist of important posts.
#Fool's Faller - [ARC] Silver and Lyn first meet Pyrite in person here!
---
This is a blog meant to represent my version of Silver, which means he strays from canon a little bit... Okay alota bit. This blog may also cover some serious things, but also participates in the general tumblr chaos. He will only be shipped with characters my BF writes, for comfort reasons.
He is 36 years old, his birthday being 12/24/1988, which makes him 11 during the events of the Gold/Silver games. He's married to @trainerlynda and dating @timetravelerpyrite. A bunch of dimension hopping related shenanigans and other such things that have happened to him. He is also transmasc and bi. If, for some reason, you don't like that, please just block me and leave.
He is a hybrid of Ho-oh, Lugia, and Silvally, due to Kenichi's (He is Lynda's halve of the universe's Giovanni's twin brother yes I know that's probably confusing-) scientists messing with him.

EMMERYN ( INSERT MIDDLE NAME ) LOWELL, has arrived at Garreg Mach Monastery's Town !
Tumblr media
#EMBLEMARTYR ━━━ private roleplay blog for Emmeryn of Fire Emblem: Awakening ( FE13 ); interpreted & loved by Barely ( 8TEEN / any prns ); affiliated with The Officers Academy as a townsperson and organization founder.
Tumblr media
NOTES ON PORTRAYAL.
with Emmeryn being written after the canon events of Awakening, the likelihood of spoilers appearing in her posts is highly possible, as she specifically comes from her respective paralogue after a critical canon event which shapes her current interpretation. of course, I will tag all of the appropriate posts accordingly. the official tag for any spoilers will be #awakening spoilers to avoid them.
unlike my other two muses, Emmeryn lives in the town of the monastery as a kind, yet quiet neighbor to those who reside there. upon having her housing papers admitted without struggle, she decided to rent out an empty building and use the treasury she'd been given to fund an organization for royals and nobles of any age to get advice and assistance with their etiquette and handling civil affairs, which she remembers easily.
after the events of Awakening, and known to those who saved her in her paralogue, Emmeryn suffers from a multitude of injuries that have changed her as a person. there are physical conditions, like her limp, unconscious twitching / trembling, and rapid blinking. and there are non-physical conditions, like her amnesia, hindered speech, and periodic headaches. I will not allow any heavy IC or OOC jokes about any of these unless spoken of beforehand. the way I treat Emmeryn is very careful and I'd become uncomfortable if her conditions were made fun of. in a softer note, there are a few social norms she does not remember and will need to be reminded of in certain situations.
similar to the above bullet, Emmeryn does speak slowly, in half sentences, pronounces certain letters and words wrong, and pauses a lot to formulate her thoughts. this will not change for a long, long time, as in the years after her paralogue, she hasn't recovered much from the incident. if your muse will belittle or mock her for her verbal inconsistencies, tell me beforehand so I can consider whether they should interact or not. just long enough for me to become fully comfortable with her narrative voice as a muse.
unless your muse has known her before her arrival or is currently enrolled under her organization, then they do not know that Emmeryn was the former Exalt of Ylisse, as this is not something she shares for the hope of starting over completely with strangers outside of her profession. on the note of her organization, let me know if your muse would approach her for it! you have to be a noble for the political classes but anyone can take her etiquette courses.
additionally, a frequent NPC that you will hear mentioned or referenced in her interactions is Langston, who is the caretaker that was deployed to Regna Ferox to tend to her. he is important to her reasoning for being here but will not be able to speak with your muse unless the thread or interaction calls for it and we have discussed it prior. yes he is pretty and twenty-seven and shy and blonde-adjacent and I have a crush on him, next question

Teaching the Devil
TtD: Prologue
The fic that started everything. It started as a one shot and my attempt to take the ship ‘seriously’ after a few gag attempts. It turned into a well over 10+ year journey into lore building, canon picking and just making something that didn’t exist…exist. So, whenever you go hunting for fics with a rare pair and see nothing – do it yourself. It's fun. ________________________________________________
Tumblr media
((Header Pic for the series done by Lil-Chilo)) Teaching the Devil Rated M; has adult/heavy themes Fandom: Resident Evil Main Ship: Nemesis/Jill Valentine Secondary ships: implied Chris Redfield/Sheva Alomar, past Chris Redfield/Jill Valentine, implied Albert Wesker/Jill Valentine Chapters: 11/11
CW: graphic depictions of violence, unhealthy relationships (implied growing codependency), mental instability, psychological trauma, implied/referenced torture, attempted rape/non con, implied cheating (full tag list on AO3) Summary: "…No man can tell What has come stealthily creeping over his life Until too late Hot ashes and pain…"
The first arc in The Devil's Saga.
Based on Dante's Inferno (the inverted significance will become clearer during the ending of a mostly Jill centric fic - she will be a bit OOC even crossing the moral event horizon, but it'll be warranted)
An AU fic set a year after the events of RE5. Deals with the finding of an apparently revived then abandoned Nemesis in a forgotten underground Umbrella lab. In recovery, it was determined his directives were irreparably damaged giving him 'free will'. Whether that is good or bad is questionable.
Jill is still dealing with the aftermath of her part in her forced servitude to Wesker - making her darker and at times mentally and emotionally unstable. Despite her hangups, she still works with the BSAA and was suddenly entrusted with the care and 'training' of a restrained Nemesis.
What results of such an arrangement is documented here. This will explore darker themes and topics: it will basically not shy away from nor sugarcoat the violent or suggestive situations within. ________________________________________________ Excerpt from TtD: Prologue- Her voice had dipped into a hiss, her repressed anger coming unbidden. "And maybe, just maybe you'll be able to kill something half your size...cause", her voice dipping low, "we don't cater to failures here." He sat up now, staring plainly at her, the cracking of the bed frame audible. She rises from the small chair, a smirk crossing her pale face. "Keep looking at me…it's your fault I look this way you know." She shifts the chair aside staring directly into his face. "I hope you at least do a good barking impression. That S.T.A.R.S. bit got old the first hour, you fucking bastard!"
As the last syllable came from her lips she found herself pinned against the wall, the Tyrant easily having three feet on her. He bent lower, his face level with hers, letting out a deep, angry snarl. Jill stood her ground. "I can see it. You want to finish the job, don't you? Don't you?!" He stood over her, palms flat against the wall trapping her head between them. "Do it." He narrowed his eye at her. "Do it. Be a good monster and finish what you start…it’s only fair since I lost two years of my life because of you! Do it!" She openly laughed at him. Enraged the Tyrant went to punch her face in…and found everything flashing white as the feeling of being electrocuted racked through him. It felt like every fiber of his being was being rent apart, the only sound in the room was of her laughter and his pained scream. As soon as it began, it stopped, the monster gasping for air, drool freely trailing from his gaping mouth. She walked to him, letting a soft hand trail his stapled scalp. "See things never changed for you. But I have just as dirty hands now. And I won't show mercy, just like you." The monster only snarled weakly upwards at her, wanting to strike but knowing it futile. "School starts, now." The only sounds now were of his labored breathing, and her walking out of the room. (Continue reading the prologue of Teaching the Devil on A03)

7; the recipe bujo.
Tumblr media
some notes on Trey Clover’s infamous recipe bullet journal/grimoire/planner/sketchbook (?)/source of his power:
I. WHAT THE HELL IS IT?
A little bit of ooc background: this is an... element? accessory? that I’ve referenced a few times, so it’s high time I explain the bit. Initially, the idea of Trey having a special little book to his name came about from IC text channels in NRU’s Discord, during our very first Halloween event. Originally an item for a failed mini-saga of thievery, it’s since become something that I’ve iterated on, and now it’s become more or less canon to my Trey in NRU. And I really like it! To me, it’s a fun object that came about as a result of the type of yes-and play that makes RP so fun. As much as I’ve expanded upon it with my own imagination, the initial idea came from the group. And I love it! In an IC context, Trey’s Recipe Bujo (TM) refers to a specific journal of his. It’s shaped like a club, because of course it is, and the impracticality of such a shape in regards to writing and keeping an organized journal has not deterred him. (Don’t think about the shape too hard. He has a brand to maintain.) While he’s usually the meticulous sort, there’s clearly sticky notes, pieces of paper, receipts, and other such things sticking out of the pages in a haphazard fashion. There’s stickers on the cover, one-off gifts or cute stickers lifted from packaging, heralding a history of places he’s snacked at. Trey hasn’t been journaling for very long, and initially, the entire thing was Cater’s idea. They’d attached themselves at the hip freshman year, and Trey figured that, with the level of dedication needed to succeed in NRU, especially in areas of magic that had been inaccessible until enrolling, it seemed like a great idea. While Cater eventually stopped trying to make journaling happening a month or two into freshman year, Trey found the process very soothing, and has continued to use the journal to his own ends ever since.
II. WHAT’S IN THE BUJO?
Honestly, even calling the thing a bujo is a bit of a misnomer. That implies a certain level of organization that, despite Trey’s reputation as being pretty put-together, absolutely does not extend to the journal. The first few pages? Of course they’re organized. That’s where the initial intention was most apparent: there’s a simple recipe for his family’s strawberry tart (with oyster sauce listed and highlighted, for the gag) after pages of his freshman schedule and first month of classes. Then? All hell breaks loose. Because, you see, you can tell when Trey Clover started combing through the cookbooks in the library. That opened the floodgates. Nowadays, every single page is something different. One page is a recipe; the other is a note to himself; the next is a shortened formula for a spell to sanitize a countertop, after half a page of scratched out, incorrect calculations as you can tell Trey took the time to tweak it to his liking. If you’ve ever taken an art class where you were required or encouraged to keep a working sketchbook, it’s something of the same thing. It slowly becomes a repository for notes, for thoughts, for hastily-drawn sketches or pages upon pages of concepts and layout designs. It’s the same kind of idea, except replace (most) of the actual sketchbook work with spells and recipes Trey copies down from.
III. A BREAKDOWN OF CONTENTS.
I. RECIPES; both a mix of notes from his family’s own personal collection, as well as a lot of scattered recipes pulled from the library’s own repository of cooking knowledge. These range from fully-formed recipes, with step by step instructions, often with his own notes highlighted in the margins... to very scattered, one or two line ideas that will get fleshed out into something later, or are in the process of being tweaked. Sometimes, it’s merely just a type of cooking, or the name and information of an ingredient he’d like to try working with. Some of them have incorrect information in them, although that is typically the case with recipes from his own family. Proprietary information! He’s not expecting people to steal it, but it never hurts to throw people off. II. CLASS NOTES; while most of his notes for other classes are in proper school notebooks and binders and eventually typed up on his laptop, sometimes you forget to jot something down, or you learn something in the wild. These are usually written on sticky notes and stuck in the margins of unrelated pages, usually the next page to be written on. These are rarely ever taken out. III. SPELLS; while his own personal grimoire has been digitized and put into one long Google Doc with slightly more organization, there are still spells pertinent to his everyday life in there. A lot of them are for cleaning, or for enchanting objects to act as extra hands. There’s also a long stretch of pages in the middle that shows the original formula iterations for what eventually became Paint the Roses. IV. RECEIPTS AND PACKAGING; and other miscellaneous odds and ends from places he’s visited and eaten at. Trey more or less gives every new place a short review, including what he ate and the flavor notes. There’s also a lot of receipts for things he’s purchased for his own cooking and hat-related endeavors. V. DOODLES; most of them from friends who had a pen handy when he was working on something. Some of them are clearly bored in class one-off doodles by his own hand, though. They’re not very good, but they amuse him. VI. CLUB & DORM NOTES; there’s a large chunk of the bujo blocked out for club-related measurements. It’s all a lot of dry information, like soil quality, plant yields, and a watering schedule. It’s clearly the most cared-for and meticulous part of the entire journal. Similarly, there’s always a page for meeting notes from every vice housewarden-related meeting he must attend.

OOC
This is a hatchetfield rp askblog for my OC Maggie. She works at the Birdhouse and will answer questions from her perspective. Non business related questions are allowed, asks sent in character (canon or oc) are allowed, events from the other timelines can be referenced but won't specifically have a lasting effect, it's pretty chill! I just won't do specific one on one rp or have heavy lore cause that's not really the point if this account (I'm also not Great at it). I might change my mind later, but that the gist of it for now! Let me know if you have any questions you want me specifically to answer and not Maggie, mark them with OOC or something similar so that I'll be able to tell. Thanks for checking me out and I hope you have fun here!
Under the cut is Maggie's ref sheet and link to more info

Hello! :D
This is a role play blog based off of a hc I’ve had about c!wilbur having a little journal throughout his life that he would write in.
These pages will mostly be from different times and places in his story, referencing canon and some made up non-canon events as well. And they’ll usually include little doodles and poems or short thoughts
Also this is my first time really doing this sorta thing but I hope you enjoy what I do with it!!
Note: you’re also welcome to send asks!! mostly ooc though since it wouldn’t make sense for his journal to talk to people, though maybe there can be some creative exceptions :)

// FYI, I am watching Picard and I will be keeping up to date with it. Most of my liveblog and reaction thoughts are on my personal blog instead of here, but if I do post anything it’ll be tagged with #picard spoilers / for one week after each episode comes out.
And unless I wind up hating it for some reason, there will likely be a Picard based verse for Reg when the whole season finishes.

leave c!phil out of bullshit 2k21 -- a not so tiny post by a new enthusiast
Tumblr media
As someone who finds both common fanon and actual canon to be quite fun, I really think the general DSMP fandom would benefit greatly from a few things in general: the greatest, in my opinion, is learning to accept that popular fanon won’t usually be the canon you receive. Another, of course, is that POVs are golden, but with these two things being flimsy in being accepted, they are the major flaws that cause about 90% of the absolute messy takes that gain traction, oftentimes poisoning a canon character's ability to exist in the story.
My biggest beef regarding this comes from how y’all treat c!Phil, so here I am, being annoying on main side!
TL;DR... Just because someone acted like like a guidance to others, doesn’t always mean that they'll want to be the father figure role for everyone that breathes. Similarly, pinning down a character on a single trope is wack, so don't be surprised if they grow away from it.
Baby’s first little dsmp rambling below!
(Warning: it's long as hell)
The Dream SMP plotline is not written out like most popular media. With so many moving parts in the form of daily streams and the wonderful tool of live improvisation, it makes perfect sense that such a giant cast would not always be on the same page. Adding onto that, it also makes more sense that a vast majority of the cast will be placed into supporting roles, as the story needs to have characters that serve as narrative anchors and others that function as the links in a chain, all weathering the storm that is the plot.
Screentime, of course, plays a major factor into canon exposure -- in terms of the Dream SMP, POV matters equally, if not more, too.
It’s a pretty neat way of showing things, but in the end, the fanbase has a lovely (read: godawful /lh) way of analysing characters, particularly when it relates to how they interact with others from their fave character’s POV. The tendency to analyse things from a single character's POV is fine, but not when attempting to critique the greater whole of a conflict. Both sides, no matter how wrong they may seem to be, matter.
Adding onto the fact that everything is live, there are things that will spiral out of control, casual words being skewed and thus having the potential of a single line seemingly contradicting the entire ‘story’ that the fanbase has made. If it directly affects a fave's POV in particular, one is more likely to take offense, as bias immediately bars one from trying to see the other person's side of things.
POV is important.
Which brings me to c!Phil, and how critics tend to ignore his perspective to prop up another character, or justify the tearing down of another.
Improvisation is both a blessing and a curse; the fanbase, however, loves to test out the latter. With it, the fanbase starts crafting tales to justify it...And so begins the mess that is c!Phil discourse.
Say it with me, folks: c!Phil is not supposed to be your fave’s fluffy father figure... unless you’re c!Wilbur!!!
😃☝🏾Dadza is good...👉🏾😎👉🏾 But fandom wants the excessive, idealized version.
-- birb 2k21
Family dynamics are generally loved for their potential for comfort, particularly those of a found family nature. Fandom in general tends to lean into them wholeheartedly, with most major bases having at least one prominent group present; SBI, of course, is no different. From fanart to popular fanfiction, it's arguably the biggest group dynamic alongside the Dream Team, and for that, a precedence was set.
c!Phil, if he ever joined, would fix everything! All of the ‘kids’ would turn to their new mentor and everything would turn out fine! This all knowing, morally just character will chuckle at their antics and wacky hijinks will follow! Fun times, right? /s
The hope for it, however, has long since been shattered, and frankly, good for him!
To go a little ooc, cc!Phil has stated multiple times that, while he was friendly with a lot of the cast as c!Phil, his only paternal link (at least biologically) lies with c!Wilbur. Simple, right? It should be -- there are multiple clips of him saying this -- but fans choose to ignore it in their critiques, generally citing favouritism or downright neglect for the character’s flaws. From 'favoring' Techno (who, in canon, holds the highest link in friendship outside of c!Wilbur's familal link) to 'neglecting' to visit Tommy (who he barely knew, and also assumed, like many others, that he was fine), these critiques weigh heavily on the scale that judges Phil’s so called father figure trope.
The story, however, has only leaned into (and persisted with) that for c!Wilbur alone, and adding onto it, there is an established acknowledgement from both ccs. That confirmation should hold the most weight, especially since both Phil and Wilbur seem alright with it. Even so, that familial has yet to be explored much for both characters, particularly regarding c!Phil, who has his debut (at least narratively) in a scene that feels opposite to the classic fatherly role.
c!Wilbur denounced accepting that helping hand to fall entirely into his explosive end, setting a precedence unlike most fatherly types arriving to save their kid. Usually, fandom narrative would love a close save, father and son uniting to heal and build up what was broken, but c!Phil’s entrance inks his story in failure. Angsty, right? We love angst!
And yet, as the story ticks on, the bad takes pile up.
Why? Well, I’l used to think that it is a “funny haha” type thing; a way to grieve for a character that was lost, as Alivebur was genuinely a great character. However, with the plot slowly progressing c!Phil’s story to evolve away from the ‘mentor the kids’ trope , I should have seen a storm on the horizon.
It should have been seen from the moment he stabbed c!Wilbur in the chest, but optimism is one hell of a smokescreen.
Built up fanon, however, is probably the greatest fog to ever exist.
There are lines before the button room confrontation that paint a picture of Wilbur seeking out the approval of his father (who seemed distant, at least from his POV), as well as hints to the SBI dynamic, but with the countless dismissals/retcons from CCs involved, as well as little to no consistent canon acknowledgement of this team dad role...Why base an entire hate piece of c!Phil just because popular fanon isn’t real?
Why, for the sake of building up a well rounded character, would one place the title of a communal parental figure on a grieving father who has little attachment to the community involved, especially when most of them are too busy delving into their own issues?
Furthermore, why go for Mr. Philza Minecraft: Angel of Death, CEO of KEKW, Functioning Immortal????
It’s madness, luv, and frankly, antis cannot let c!Phil process any of his grief (or flesh out his character) without his contributions being fatherly. His role has been idealized to the point where he is not a character on his own, but an accessory to the happiness of other characters. That is not how the world works, and in a conflict riddled server like the dsmp, arguing that it should be like that is counterproductive.
c!Phil had his own shit to deal with, and as he slowly uncovers how fucked up the server actually was, he merely adapts to it. He learns to play the game by his own rules, and people become mad that he’s succeeding in his own way. It's as simple as that, particularly when referencing his initial exposure to the world he now inhabits.
c!Phil is a man who used to hear of his son’s success from the letters he received, words spinning tales of won revolutions and newfound friendships. To a father, those letters are more than enough to assume that all is well, and with it, he had no reason to check on his son, who was already old enough to be carving his path alone. For him to arrive and see just how broken his son actually was, and then, in front of faces he only vaguely knows, kill said son... There's a lot to take in.
He shouldn't have had to care about L'Manberg in those moments, not when he had his son in his arms, dead by his own goddamn weapon; his son who, to his knowledge, was doing pretty well up until he caught wind of his plot. Yet, he does.
He gives them the benefIt of the doubt, even ignoring the one person he has shown to have deep history with (c!Techno) to assist the nation in defeating the withers and rebuilding what was lost.
c!Phil stays in a nation that has seemingly brought his son right into his demise, holding in that grief to help people who he assumes have the chance to rebuild, to reform. For a moment, he trusts that the system can turn into something positive, offering to hunker down and do what he can to help. That’s the start of a fatherly type role for most -- with many expectations rising from fans to ‘fix’ all these traumatized characters.
In another plot, perhaps critics could have gotten the tropes they want from c!Phil, but to blame the character for reacting negatively to a world he barely knew, right after seeing it ruin his son and target a friend...Maybe the need for a "father figure" only stems from making their faves happy.
Characters that don't directly support your fave are not inherently awful characters. Critique based on that alone is...flimsy, really, but honestly, you can use to to show how they process things.
Which brings me to the events leading up to Doomsday, and with it, the steady rise of c!Phil’s defining traits.
Say it with me, folks: c!Phil is one of the most loyal members on the server, but loyalty doesn’t mean he's blindly following along!
😃☝🏾Butcher Army take this L👉🏾😎👉🏾 Found it in the L’Mancrater
-- birb 2k21
The butcher army arc, while nestled among the mainline story of Tommy’s exile (which I will not even mention, because those dadza takes about visiting may deserve a post on their own), allows for c!Phil to see into the minds of those who had once been with (or even against) his son’s plans. Sure, he may be witnessing them after the eve of their newfound traumas, but this is an important observation to make when comparing how easy it was to denounce his affiliation to them and side with c!Technoblade.
Unlike the new Administration, slowly dipping deeper and deeper into their own form of power hunger, c!Technoblade’s base desires had never wavered. His trust in others, however, had, still nursing the sting of a betrayal, but with no conflict in sight. He is reforming, finding comfort in his solitude, and still maintaining contact with those he trusts.
Techno's Compass, for one, is a major example of their mutual trust. Despite being on opposing territories, they are civil enough to trust each other, just like old friends.
Thus, when you take two old friends who are more than used to conflict -- one grieving and one betrayed, but both seeking neutrality -- it shouldn’t have surprised the antis that c!Phil would place c!Techno’s whereabouts (and life, mind you) over some government he barely knew.
And yet, above all else, c!Phil starts off as a neutral party for everyone's sake, forgoing potential conquest for peace.
To c!Phil and c!Techno, it’s like fighting back to back, knowing that one can always trust the other to fend off those just waiting to take advantage of your blindspot, while also quelling the need to imagine your partner turning around and doing the same. That sort of friendship is forged through many, many hardships.
They betray what little trust he had built in them. That’s on them.
c!Phil is aware how untrusting c!Techno is, and while c!Techno feels safe enough to give his all for c!Phil, he never exploits it to get ahead, which is something L'Manbergians felt okay with doing.
They take a book out of the playbook used on c!Techno, for c!Techno.
They went after yet another person who was close to him, using their power and influence to hold an execution under the guise of seeking justice. If c!Wilbur, at least pre-corruption arc, sent letters to his father, one would at least expect some of his old ideals of freedom and fairness to leak through into his friends, right? To see those c!Phil assumed would hold similar ideals immediately skew towards a darker, brutal side, particularly in threatening others to get what they wanted...Well, shit hit the fan.
c!Phil does not have that strong relationship with any former L’Manbergians, and despite there being potential for such, it didn't work out that way; instead, however, those characters manage to mistake his kindness for weakness. They take his preferred neutrality as a way to exploit him, to gain in such a way that he lost agency...
No more Mister Nice Dadza, and honestly, he’s justified in that notion.
They’ve lost his trust, time too short to have gained that strong link like c!Techno’s or c!Wilbur’s, and with it, came the inevitable association with Doomsday.
c!Phil knew c!Techno’s intentions from the beginning -- which had only wavered into dormancy because he had grown tired of fighting, understanding that the cycle he wishes to break is not worth his efforts -- so the agreement in participating is effortless.
c!Dream was there too, of course, but in their mutual quest for eradication, it’s made canon that c!Techno and c!Phil hid away most of their arsenal, despite seeming overprepared. They have no loyalty to c!Dream; they’re smart enough to play along, however. He was a means to an end.
There’s no lies present in their relationship; c!Phil needed someone who didn’t try and pull wool over his eyes, and c!Techno let him see.
c!Techno needed someone who wouldn't stab him in the back, and c!Phil stayed true as his hidden sword.
Which is why, as the two joined forces, ideals aligning and power synergized, they didn’t think twice about nuking the nation to bedrock. Mutually agreeing that the system needs to die, they did what they could, and they succeeded.
How cool of them, tbh LMAO.
New L’Manberg tugged too hard at the sleeping tiger’s tail; they shouldn’t have expected it to roll over.
Their openness to each other was known.
There was no need for underhanded plays, for hidden betrayals, for undisclosed words.
Their loyalties were strong.
They were in sync.
In conclusion (maybe, maybe not...this shit is long holy heck)
😃☝🏾 I may hate this analysis in 30 minutes👉🏾😎👉🏾 Or I may make a part 2. Fuck it!
-- birb 2k21
And that’s what makes c!Phil an interesting character: He tends to be critiqued in reference to chatacters who have very well wronged him, have no affiliation to him or get associated to him through popular fanon. There's a lot to cover that I haven't (from Ghostbur to the whole Tommy 'dilemna') but overall I'm digging what I have now and if I ever get more energy, I'll continue!
c!Phil enthusiasts, I hope I did you proud LMAO. It's my first forray into this side of tumblr 👉🏾👈🏾 I'm a lurker.
c!Phil antis, you can either act respectful or go argue with a wall. I got experience dealing with antis on Tumblr; I am immune to BS.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed. Signing off!

Explain your ships!!!!! What makes them appealing to you, how did you get into them, and any changes you made from canon in regards to characters/dynamics to make them work. This isn't an ask game or me asking you to justify your ships, I'm just curious lmfao
Ooh lemme think about this one :D (Ngl I looked for which ask game you might have been referencing like did I forget one?? It's a good ask tho, I live for these lol).
I've always (like as an elementary school kid always XD) been a sucker for battle couples/enemies to lovers dynamic and the "edgy" bastard characters. And when I "ship" something, it's mostly just based on whichever are my particular types/favs in a media, although I can read just about anything, gen or ship, if it's written well enough.
You can see the trend in my favs in every show I get into tho XD Like Yusuke/Hiei, Zuko/Sokka, Heero/Wufei, Amaimon/Rin, Grimmjow/Ichigo, etc.
It's that spice of "We have attempted to kill each other several times but situations have forced us into an uneasy alliance and oh no! you're not as bad as I thought/we actually work really well together on the battlefield, but don't think this makes us friends!"
To "Oh shit, you or I got seriously injured and now are in a vulnerable state and we have to tend to each other's wounds and the thought of losing you as an ally makes me unhappy for some strange reason."
And then the sweet, sweet realization of, "this individual is incredibly important to me and if I lose them I'll kill myself/everyone in this room I stg. But I can't let them KnOw." *Insert panicking*
With the beautiful finale of "Oh" and the mutual pining comes to an end~
I tend not to change much in terms of characters/dynamics, just explore different facets maybe. I'll take the source material and extrapolate based on reactions the characters have had to similar situations or based on what I'm given of their personality type. That's all stuck on top of whatever plot I have them going into too, which I try to imagine how their base character would react to.
I like to do the whole character growth over long/life changing events, and try to avoid jumping too quickly into a reaction that seems ooc or too sudden, since that bugs the shit outta me when I read it lmao.
Thanks for the ask @asteroulik !! I've been trying to jumpstart writing again and it helps to ramble about these things :D

Slides 1-10 of The DC PPG Comics issue #18 “The Trouble With Bubbles.” Eh…They did this same plot better with Blossom in “Not So Awesome Blossom.” See, she lost her confidence and ran away from home and her superhero role in that episode because she kept failing on a day when she was trying her best. On top of that, Buttercup’s teasing broke her even further. However, as soon as Mojo called her, and told her her family was in danger, she swallowed her insecurities of failure, and came to save them.
Here, in this comic “The Trouble With Bubbles,”Bubbles gets reprimanded by her sisters and the city for not helping them fight a monster when they asked her because she was trying to save a butterfly from getting killed by getting its wings wet, which means she wasn’t really trying her best. She had skewed priorities. However, their anger with her for messing up once isn’t really enough to convince me that she would want to run away. Also, both her sisters, the Mayor, and the city actually do have every right to be pissed off that she prioritized the life of one butterfly over all of theirs. But god forbid, Bubbles POV ever not be validated by everyone in the narrative, or her bad choices and/or mistakes ever have negative consequences in the classic franchise…
Even in episodes like “Bubblevicious,” “Helter Shelter,” and “Neighbor Hood” in which Bubbles actually was framed as being in the wrong and getting in trouble, she got off so easy in comparison to her sisters in their centrics because she was the “cute one.” In fact, in “Bubblevicious,” Bubbles terrorized the city over the course of the day because she was tired of being treated like a baby by her family, and, while she does apologize for abandoning them, her sisters are the ones who actually have to go looking for her in the end. She was kidnapped by Mojo, but she handled him herself. However, she didn’t actually do anything to save them in the episode after turning on them, and only offered any apologies to them after Blossom and Buttercup said she was “hardcore” after taking down Mojo by herself. Yeah, Blossom and Buttercup were wrong for teasing Bubbles about being a “baby,” but her response to go off the rails to prove she was “hardcore” by shoving Blossom into the ground, getting snippy with them, and terrorizing innocent citizens in the city for committing minor infractions over the course of a day, were way worse. Yet, she expresses no remorse for it, and pays no negative consequences.
And I don’t hate Bubbles from the classic PPG. At her best, she is kind, cute, funny, and witty. I loved her centrics “Boogie Frights,” “Helter Shelter,” “All Chalked Up,” and “Mime For A Change.” However, compared to her sisters, particularly Buttercup, it really did feel like the narrative did everything in its power to make sure Bubbles lived in a bubble that coddled her in ways that made her impenetrable to negative consequences, and thus, wasted opportunities for growth of character for her in the narrative. It just feels like compared to the growth and/or negative consequences that Blossom and particularly Buttercup faced for messing up or doing something wrong in their centrics, such as “Paste Makes Waste,” “A Very Special Blossom,” “Moral Decay,” “Not So Awesome Blossom,” “The Mane Event,” and “Makes Zen To Me,” Bubbles gets off the easiest because she can never have negative consequences in her centrics in which she makes bad choices and/or mistakes, and, even if she is in the wrong, she rarely ever has to earn their forgiveness or trust back when she does something really wrong. Everyone has to bend over backwards to validate her POV, or she completely gets off with no negative consequences when she does wrong. It’s ironic because Bubbles got the most individual focus of her sisters, but the least growth of character because of this sort of writing.
The build up to Blossom running away after losing her confidence when she failed to stop a monster with a plan of hers in “Not So Awesome Blossom” was also kind of rushed, but it still took more than just that one failure to cause her to run away in shame. She also was trying her best in that episode. When she got home, she kept messing things up by accident, in spite of trying her best, such as making a block building fall when she put the final block at the top, accidentally spilling a hot kettle of tea on Professor Utonium’s lap, squeezing the stuffing out of a plush doll by accident, and messing up at darts. She also had to deal with Buttercup rather cruelly gloating about swooping in to save the day by mocking Blossom for failing when she was already feeling down after a plan of hers failed to stop a monster in battle, jinxing her when she was playing darts to make her feel insecure, and threatening to take over her role as leader.
Here, Bubbles messes up trying to do what she felt was right for the butterfly, thus failing to help her sisters stop the monster, and makes Blossom, Bubbles, and the city angry with her for prioritizing a butterfly’s safety over theirs. I get that Bubbles is an animal lover, but Blossom, Buttercup, and the Mayor have every right to be angry with Bubbles for prioritizing a butterfly’s safety over theirs. I get that Bubbles’ didn’t mean any harm, but she still should have had to realize that sometimes not every animal and insect can be saved. No one should need to apologize to her here. She messed up by skewing priorities. She should have still realized that prioritizing the life of one butterfly over the lives of hundreds of people, was wrong.
But, of course, since she’s Bubbles, everyone else has to be the one to beg her to come back to the team, and admit they were wrong at the end, even though they had every right to be angry with her for prioritizing the life of an insect over all of theirs.
Also, while Buttercup wasn’t canonically portrayed as this horribly abused, mistreated, neglected, and unloved child by her family and the city overall, though I completely ignore “Moral Decay” because it’s never mentioned or referenced again, anyway, and went way too far into wildly OOC hateful territory for the entire Utonium family that made me feel very uncomfortable, particularly in regards to Buttercup’s treatment at the end, she definitely was the misunderstood one. Wouldn’t it actually make more sense to do this plot of with her since centrics episodes of hers like “Nuthin’ Special” and getting her name because “it also begins with a B” from the Professor in the 2002 movie, imply that she felt like the black sheep of her family, and wanted to be special with a unique power like her sisters?
Anyway, here’s slides 1-10 of issue #18 “The Trouble With Bubbles”
