“April 9th, 1995

Was reported in the Modesto Bee today that McNamara said that the war in Vietnam was a “mistake”. Will some paper report on April 9, 2025 that 3 strikes was a mistake? That hopelessly incarcerating drug addicts was a mistake? That a war on the poor was a mistake? That turning our heads from their plight and blaming them was a mistake? The rich in this country violate the social contract we have with each other..that, when you are down, I will hold you up. Because my house is your house. 100 guns won’t keep you out. But, 100 acts of benevolence and of kindness might. And, ‘might" is worth the risk.

Tomorrow, I will receive an English lesson. Larry (my 3 strikes client) and Governor Pete Wilson, et, al., team up to teach me the true “mean”ing (I underscore “mean” spirited) of the words arbitrary, ironic, exclusionary, outrageous, blind follower, McCarthism, Hitler, Anger and disbelief.

I’m getting a strange feeling tonight that some miracle has happened in the case— Whatever it is, it’s good and uplifting. I can feel it moving up and through me. It’s ineffable.

Well, Larry, my client, leg bailed. Bench warrant $50,000. What a fucking farce. (His sentencing hearing)  25 to life for four grams of meth. Sickening little political games. And, I hope Larry runs far and runs fast and gets away forever and never returns to this hellhole.

And, I counseled a man in the jail  today who, in the act of pouring coffee, was ripped down his face by a fellow inmate using a tooth brush  imbedded with a double razor. The attacking inmate was trying to make a name for himself pre prison by brutalizing a fellow prisoner . Shocking. Like Pete Wilson trying to make a name for himself with 3 strikes. A public defender secretary said today that she read 3 strike lawyers go through a mourning process. How true. And, it was such a relief to finally find someone who acknowledges it.

"Leg Bail" means that Mr. Barrick did not show up for his court date. It is a common termed used both in court and by law enforcement.

"writers deserve attention more than actors" literally only 2% of actors can pay the bills with acting. For every megastar on screen there are a dozen other people in the shot who are SAG. Acting gets so glamorized but there are SO MANY people in SAG who NEED residuals to live on. Background Party Girl #4 needs her check too!!!! There are people who play recurring characters on syndicated shows who cant afford health insurance!!! Ke Huy Quan gave an oscar winning performance and LOST HIS HEALTH INSURANCE the next year.

It's still surprising to see people say that when they see the upcoming strike post I made that this is the first time they're hearing about it, especially because I've seen several posts now talking about the same strike.

That being said: regardless of what kind of blog you are, please spread the news about the genocide, the strikes, boycotts, etc.

Even if you are a small blog, spreading word allows for more people to know what's going on and also do their part in protests and strikes, and maybe even the right people will be able to do more than what you're able to do.

And reminder: there is an upcoming strike on February 18th-25th. Prepare accordingly, protest, boycott, call your reps, and spread the word so more people are aware.

In regards to a 3 strikes sequel!

Hello my lovely readers, if you’re a person who has read and enjoyed my story 3 Strikes please take a moment to read this post!!

3 Strikes is definitely my most popular story and I am super proud of it! I am very glad that so many of you love it and I’ve gotten messages saying you’ve gone back to re read it too which honestly makes me soooo happy. That’s a very great honor as a writer.

That being said, I wanna level with you guys (especially those asking for a sequel or bonus). I don’t see that happening anytime soon. To be honest, I only had the idea for 3 strikes because of a tweet I saw which roughly followed the “meeting x strangers separately and then getting all of them at the end” format, and it was genuinely quite difficult to write it.

I see everyone asking for sequels, and I understand that you loved it so much that you want more, but here is my roadblock/confession.

It would be near impossible for me to write something like 3 Strikes again because the format is SO formulaic. There are only so many ways you can have a character meet sexy strangers in a bar before it gets super repetitive. I understand that y’all liked this formula a LOT but it’s one that I can’t repeat in good conscious as a writer. It’s frankly lazy writing for me to repurpose the plot with other members or something. If you’re a person who simply enjoys reading poly BTS fics, and that’s what you’re craving more of, I did just post a rapline x reader fic that will likely satisfy you as much as 3 strikes did.

And I know you’re saying “But Sara, there’s other ways to write a sequel to 3 Strikes!!!”

You’re absolutely correct, and I understand that some of you who ask for this are simply looking for an extension of the little relationship you saw between the maknae line and the reader, and to you I say this: please send me SPECIFIC ideas of what you would want in a sequel.

I work best when I have a rough plot or something to inspire me, and I honestly haven’t come up with anything that would fit their timeline and characterization well enough yet. I feel like a lot of what you guys valued from 3 Strikes was the plot/format that lends itself to a one time story, which is why I never intended to write a sequel.

I love that you guys loved 3 strikes so much and the feedback really means a lot to me, so I’m not against a sequel but I am also not running to write one at the moment. I appreciate your understanding, as being a writer can prove tough when inspiration doesn’t always present itself. Thanks guys 🫶

So, now on to the 3/24/17, which is part of the evolving homeless encounter theme of my life at the time. It refers to a restaurant on which shares a common wall with a parking garage. The restaurant is two blocks from the court house and very popular with local lawyers. I had one of my last drinks  in Modesto at their bar in 2011. There was a place on the wall between the restaurant and the parking garage where the homeless could charge their phones. This would take place very close to where restaurant diners sat outside. I used to marvel at the juxtaposition of the haves and the have nots there. The diners seemed oblivious to the plight of the homeless who were feet away. Eventually, the electrical outlet was removed, and the homeless had to go elsewhere to charge their phones. But, at the time of the 3/24/17 entry, the electric outlet and the homeless were there. And, so was I!

Three strikes came into law in March of 1994. Apparently, per the entry, the 3 strikers were originally placed in yellow jump suits. That is not true today. I think I sort of recall the yellow jump suits.  3 strikes meant a possible 25 to life sentence. One strike meant a a non life sentence. The homeless man that I encounter in the entry refers to the yellow jump suit.

Following is the entry:

"12:52am 3/24/17 Friday

“Those men beside the restaurant haunt me— By the time I’d finished my lethal Serrano (a cappuccino drink highly caffeinated )at Preservation ( a coffee house around the corner from the restaurant), gone to the   top of the parking garage to decide if I wanted to give them the rest of my Trader Joe supplies, and looked back down to where they had been, they were gone.

Where did they go?

When I talked with them— They had a power bar plugged in and a bunch of things plugged into it. They were charging up their devices.

The one guy knew me from one of my former offices.

(He) Seemed cleaner…I thought maybe he was hired to work with the homeless at first.

He spoke of being put in yellow by a Judge—as a three striker. Eventually, they learned he had only one strike. 

I forgot about the yellow 3 strikes jump suit.

Draconian times.

Amazing: he (the homeless man)  knew of my old office “small—one room—maybe one or two guys..” (I left that office in 2003)

The yellow jump suit.

And “My judge is the one who died of the heart attack.”

Clock ticks. Train howls—

Early morning— Details count.

Yellow jump suits. Ticking clocks. Heart attack deaths. Of the high and mighty in the court house—

I saw the bottom of the American flag in the  (Court house) hallway yesterday And thought it was a red and white from the jail (Persons charged with murder wore jump suits with broad red and white stripes in 2017)

No…it was the flag…the same flag that brought us the yellow Jump suit for a stick of gum—days.”
