Common sense is returning.

Belgium and the Netherlands have become the latest countries to question the use of puberty blockers on children after the Cass Review warned of a lack of research on the gender treatment’s long-term effects.
Britain has become the fifth European nation to restrict the use of the drug to those under 18 after initially making them part of their gender treatments.
Their use was based on the “Dutch protocol” - the term used for the practice pioneered in the Netherlands in 1998 and copied around the world, of treating gender dysphoric youth using puberty blockers.
The NHS stopped prescribing the drug, which is meant to curb the trauma of a body maturing into a gender that the patient does not identify with this month.
In Belgium, doctors have called for gender treatment rules to be changed.
Research into impact
“In our opinion, Belgium must reform gender care in children and adolescents following the example of Sweden and Finland, where hormones are regarded as the last resort,” the report by three paediatricians and psychiatrists in Leuven said.
Figures from the Netherlands and the United Kingdom show that more than 95 per cent of individuals who initiated puberty inhibition continue with gender-affirming treatments,” the report by P Vankrunkelsven P, K Casteels K and J De Vleminck said.
“However, when young people with gender dysphoria go through their natural puberty, these feelings will only persist in about 15 per cent.”
The report was published after a 60 per cent rise in the number of Belgium teenagers taking the blockers to stop the development of their bodies. In 2022, 684 people between the ages of nine and 17 were prescribed the drug compared to 432 in 2019, the De Morgen newspaper reported in 2019.
Pressure is also building in the neighbouring Netherlands to look again at their use. The parliament has ordered research into the impact of puberty blockers on adolescent’s physical and mental health.
Dutch protocol
The Telegraph understands that the Amsterdam Center of Expertise on Gender Dysphoria, where the protocol originated, is set to make a statement on the use of puberty blockers next week.
“I too thought that the Dutch gender care was very careful and evidence-based. But now I don’t think that any more,” Jilles Smids, a postdoctoral researcher in medical ethics at Erasmus University in the Netherlands, told The Atlantic.
Attitudes in the Netherlands have hardened against trans rights, with a bill to make it easier for people to legally change their gender being held up in parliament.
The Cass Review said that the NHS had moved away from the restrictions of the original Dutch protocol, and researchers in Belgium have also demanded those restrictions be reintroduced.
Belgium is regarded as one of the most trans-friendly countries in Europe. A minister in the government is transgender and people have been able to legally change their gender without a medical certificate for the past five years.
But the hard-Right Vlaams Belang party is currently leading the polls ahead of national and European elections in June.
It has called for “hormone therapy and sex surgery to be halted for underage patients until clear and concrete research has been carried out.”
‘Greatest ethical scandals’
In March, a report in France described sex reassignment in minors as potentially “one of the greatest ethical scandals in the history of medicine”.
Conservative French senators plan to introduce a bill to ban gender transition treatments for under-18s.
On Monday, the Vatican’s doctrine office published a report that branded gender surgery a grave violation of human dignity on a par with euthanasia and abortion.
Finland was one of the first countries to adopt the Dutch protocol but realised many of its patients did not meet the Protocol’s strict eligibility requirements for the drugs.
It restricted the treatment in 2020 and recommended psychotherapy as the primary care.
Sweden restricted hormone treatments to “exceptional cases” two years later. In December, Norwegian authorities designated the medicine as “under trial”, which means they will only be prescribed to adolescents in clinical trials.
Denmark is finalising new guidelines limiting hormone treatments to teenagers who have had dysphoria since early childhood.
In 2020, Hungary passed a law banning gender changes on legal documents.
“The import and the use of these hormone products are not banned, but subject to case by case approval, however, it is certain that no authority would approve such an application for people under 18,“ a spokesperson told The Telegraph.
In August, Russia criminalised all gender reassignment surgery and hormone treatments.

I have no ideas what animorph is but I already seen it mentioned on at least 5 different blog which have nothing to do with each other (you being the 5th) what the hell is it???
90s/early 00s young adult sci-fi book series of around 60 short books, published once a month, by K A Applegate.
The books were distributed cheeply by the Scholastic book fair, and could be found in most school libraries thought the Mid 00s.
The plot was 5 normal kids have to stop a secret alien invasion by turning into various animals, and the books were known for starting off with quirky humour and very rapidly decending into utter existential horror with body horror, possession horror, and the ptsd you'd get if you were actually a teen super hero and had to fight an actual war with real stakes aged 13-16, and the fear of never knowing who your real enemy might be. The series ended about a month before 9/11 with a disastrous final battle and a grim warning about how war never really fixes any of the underlying problems between rival nations or peoples, and just destroys good people, so... yeah, ooof.
Due to the content, beloved by horror fans, super hero fans, Sci fi fans, furries (the kids have the power to turn into animals for combat and it gets real weird real fast), and the queer and the trans community, so it turns up on a lot of unrelated blogs.
The audio books are still readily available and are pretty well done, and the cover art of the books was gloriously 90s.
Behold!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was also a tv show we dont talk about.
The main cast were:
Jake: the leader. There is an evil alien slug living in his brother's head, and this causes issues for him.
Cassie: Jake's crush. The moral center of the books. Also her parents are veterinarians at a zoo, with is very fucking convenient if you need a ready sourse of animals to turn into.
Marco: Jake's best friend, the smart one. Also uses inappropriate humour to cope with trauma (relatable).
Rachel: Jake's cousin. Uses turning into a grizzly bear and committing extreme violence to cope with her trauma (relatable).
Tobias: perminantly turns into a bird to escape his trauma (most relatable) but then has to deal with extreme body and mental dismorphia as a result. Has a star-crossed lovers plot with Rachel. He is my favorite.
Ax: an alien teenager they just adopted and hide in the woods. Is also my favourite. He's a bright blue centar with stalk-eyes and a sythe tail, and he loves Cinabon and warcrimes. Due to his extreme alien mindset, he's been taken as a metaphor for Neurodivergance, but it's unclear if that was the author's original intent.
The books are awesome, and still available as e-books, comics and audio books I'd you want to check them out.
Here is a video essay that does a far better job of explaining:

It's kind of ironic that in the early 20th century, Russia was the center of the scientific corruption and scandal that was Lysenkoism, where ideology trumped reality. Millions suffered and died as a result of denying biological reality.
The process of cementing Lysenkoism was eerily familiar.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysenkoism
On August 7, 1948, at the end of a week-long session organized by Lysenko and approved by Stalin, the Academy of Agricultural Sciences announced that Lysenkoism would henceforth be taught as "the only correct theory." Soviet scientists were required to denounce any work that contradicted Lysenko, and criticism was denounced as "bourgeois" or "fascist".
Today, countries like the US, Canada and Australia are up to their armpits in a modern-day form of Gender Lysenkoism.

stop fakeclaiming child alters just because they aren't "accurate"
below is a comment found on a popular subreddit that fakeclaims dissociative and posttraumatic experiences. in this comment, they are referring to people with dissociative identity disorder and similar disorders who have "littles" which is a common community term for alters that present as children. if you are not familiar with child alters, please refer to this professional's explanation.
you can also find more information on how alters might present as different ages here. please stay informed!
Tumblr media
as you can see in this comment, this person is criticizing how child alters type or speak because it's not accurate when comparing them to real life children. what they don't seem to understand is that child alters are not the same as real life children (howell, 2011, pp.60-61). they are part of a mental health disorder. and while child alters are often more vulnerable & traumatized then older alters, it's actually counter-therapeutic to treat them like they're no different from real life children (shusta-hochberg, 2004).
child alters are very similar to the concept of an inner child. your inner child is a part of you that preserves the things you remember, learned, fantasized about, and felt when you were a child. child alters are very similar to that, except they're more disconnected. dissociative processes involve them taking control of the body and acting independently.
child alters are often more limited than the adult alters...they "may not be able to tell the time, hold a pen and write, and they may only use and comprehend very simple language. these assets become even weaker when survivors become very afraid, angry, or ashamed" (van der Hart et al., 2006, pg.138). it is extremely common for trauma survivors to regress to a child-like state at times, even for people without child alters.
no matter how child-like someone becomes, if they are adult-bodied then they are not an actual child. the way a child alter acts or talks may be inhibited but is rarely fully "accurate."
it makes no sense to criticize an adult for...not being a child?
one of my alters is an infant. that infant alter is still able to type and communicate, although in a more limited way. they know how to unlock our phone & how to contact someone during emergencies. they don't write or talk very well, but they still know how to do it. if young alters had to act "accurately", i would be unable to communicate or understand phones or walk or stand up or even eat solid foods when that alter fronted. this alter fronting could end up killing us, so i would probably need a caregiver 24/7.
that isn't how things work, though. i'm an adult with a mental disorder, not a shapeshifter. the lack of compassion and critical thinking that some people extend to neurodivergency and trauma survivors is heartbreaking.
please stay educated on mental health! please don't fakeclaim someone just because their child alters aren't "accurate."

60 Years of Doctor Who Anniversary Marathon - T. Baker 10th Review
The Leisure Hive - TV Story
Tumblr media
So it finally happened. After lucking out four times with top tier stories, we've finally got an average Who outing.
That's not to say that The Leisure Hive is bad. Far from it. There's a lot to recommend in it, but, let's just say, it's certainly no Invasion.
So what is here that's good?
Well there's some nice camera work.
Some cool costumes and makeup.
The underlining story regarding generational trauma and capitalistic intrigue manipulating politics is interesting, once you get past the technobabble.
There's a genuinely good twist in the last act.
Some decent effects for the early 80s
And most importantly there's Hardin and Mena!
Tumblr media
Barbara and Ian may still be my OTP, but Hardin and Mena might be my favorite one off pairing in the entire show. They are so caring and protective of each other. Yet are being torn apart by political and capitalistic manipulations.
You just gotta love it. They're the real reason why you should watch this episode. This is clearly their story, the Doctor and Romana just happen to be in it.
Which leads to the story's weaknesses. The Doctor and Romana are involved, yes, and they do things to further the plot... but it's all really boring ¤¤¤¤.
The problem is the heavy technobabble crap they constantly have to spout. It makes it hard to engage with the emotion of the scene. It doesn't help matters that Baker really looks like he doesn't even want to be there.
And it's not for the lack of trying. The story places the Doctor constantly in peril, and Romana gets to be upest a lot. Often overreacting to events that wind up not mattering at all, like K-9 getting damaged. Which happens in the stupidest manner possible and is like never mentioned again. It's just an excuse to get rid of the best main character present.
I'll also profess to not caring for the overall set design. The costumes and makeup look good, but the sets are just tacky and cheap looking. But, hey, it's Doctor Who, so what do you expect?
Overall I would rank this story a 3 out of 5. It's firmly middle ground.

⸻ ERA NOTES !
though it received a lot of attention before release, RAIN CHECK was received less than enthusiastically by fans on release. they commented that the album felt DISJOINTED, and clearly suffered under the weight of the controversies. LEO shocked netizens by having his own song on the album, having written LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME as well as performing the main vocals on the song. this was also the first era where LEO went blond, which NUCLEONS almost unanimously loved. many of the other members took up a more ACTIVE role during this era, with MAX and JASPER both being very present sub-vocals for the first time. LEO often took over the lead vocals on music shows, with ATLAS either providing sub-vocals or sitting out on the performance entirely. ATLAS explained during an ENCORE LIVE that he was experiencing some health issues that caused him to sit out on performances, after which #GETWELLATLAS trended on social media for nearly three days. fans also noticed ATLAS was significantly less vocal during interviews, with some joking that even DAE said more than he did. despite these online jokes, many also expressed true CONCERN for ATLAS, with some speculating that his health issues were related to his behavior during the promotion of THE LONELIEST. this reignited some of the more wild rumors online, which netizens suspected might have more merrit than initially thought. LEO began hosting a weekly ENCORE LIVE in his dorm to help promote the album, often being joined by either DAE or JASPER. netizens mostly enjoyed the dynamic between LEO and JASPER, commenting that the two of them seem very close. soon after the album promotion ended, ATLAS was reported as being hospitalized for undisclosed reasons, and this marked the beginning of an unofficial hiatus for the band that would last until JUNE 2023.

Hi so uh, we’re new to tumblr and have a very minimal idea on how this shit works. So we’ll toss a bit of info about us and few boundaries here.
We’re the Hearts and Darts system! We’re 17 and afab bodily. We have 60+ alters and are a traumagenic system. We have ADHD Autism, and possible DPD.
✨Boundaries time✨
Dni:
Racists, homophobes, transphobes, etc. (all that kinda shit yk)
Endogenic “systems” and their supporters (DID and OSDD are trauma disorders, you’re just fucking lying)
Mspec lesbians/gays (you cannot be a “Pansexual lesbian”, you’re just Omnisexual w a preference for women and whatever other bullshit y’all on)
If you use closed culture names (literally just racist)
K I think that’s all, we’ll do our own individual intros and such whenever!

[Ray📝:] to make this whole system thing work a little better we made a blog. we would love to talk to other systems, we know the value in feeling seen
[Gray 📝:] under the cut we have alter list, practical info and discourse stances.
[Annie & Rob📝:] use he/him if not otherwise implied. most alters use he/him and all the fem alters are comfortable with he/him. (I won't speak for the xenogender alters though)
she/her is used by: Annie (primary), Angel (casually), Polly (probably), Rega (in addition to he/him), Minian (only)
alter blogs: @annie-flying (Annie & Angel +?) (not accessible, full of undescribed images)
[📝Ray & Lee:] an attempt at an alter list. Some inaccuracies may exist. Not all alters are listed.
comment: [Cal📝:] this section is under reconstruction because well, this is grossly inaccurate
alters: Ink (he/him), Lee (he/him, admin), Forga (he/him), Marc (he/him) (symptom holder), Max (he/him) (strong dissociative barrier), Mint (he/him + any green neos), Ray (he/him), Lilly(she/they/he), Blue (blue/blueself / he/him), Luke/k (he/they) ,Rain (he/they), Roy (he/him), Rowan (he/him) (fictive?), Ore, Gold, Reya (trauma/memory holder), hidden name (1 & 2), Orange, Reya, Regal, Viola, gch1 (group chat host), gch2
alter count: ca 80-90 (known). [source: gray]
simplyplural alter count: 50-60. [source: QL] [outdated -Mint🌱]
[Blue & Ray📝:] system terms: traumagenic, questioning DID, has subsystems/groups (not sure if there's a difference). [Annie & Lee📝:] We have some issues with speech that we don't know the reason for.
[Rain 📝:] we're comfortable with most if not all language for alters/parts/headmates/sections and system.
[QL📝] We have very few fictives, but a lot of protectors and comfort seekers and quite a few without any named role.
Tumblr media
[Marc & unnamed 📝:] we usually tag posts with [alter name].txt, but not all alters do it. overall formatting mostly depends on alter. "unnamed.txt" is for alters without a name who don't use alter/tag format. [ink📝:] similar names may indicate similar alters. Sometimes we use a series of concepts or letters to indicate alters (tagged: alter/tag) which usually means an alter doesn't have a name or is a blur between a couple different ones.
[gray📝:]Because some alters don't want us to we do not publicly display our (body) age, but we will give it to you if you ask. We try to follow age-based DNIs as best we can. We are ok with people of basically any age interacting, but preferably at least old enough to use this app. [Mint🌱:] regardless of age only interact platonically/socially/parasocially, no fl*rting or anything like that.
syscourse: we're anti-harrasment and anti-fakeclaiming. we're endo neutral/unaligned, though some alters are pro or anti so you might see some posts about it (see here for more info). [Lee 📝:] no member believes you can accidentally make an endogenic system, but some think you can intentionally make one. [not verified by multiple alters yet]. [forcibly unnamed 📝:] Some alters are pro and some are anti, and therefore we may want to interact with users who share these opinions. I hope this is ok. We don't really start any syscourse on here. we are currently considering moving all syscourse to a sideblog.
[Gray📝:] other discourse: we're pro-queer, the term and people (unnamed 📝: we don't support radqueer to be clear). [Gray 📝:] We don't have a stance on most labels. We are a bit uncomfortable with people with strong shipcourse opinions, but you can interact.
We are not at all caught up on shipcourse, but any and all shipping is a trigger so ship-centric blogs DNI. We are anti-war and believe in rehabilitation not punishment for crime and prisons. We believe in religious freedom.
We support the term transandrophobia and understand that men can face discrimination for not being the "right kind" of man (see also: toxic masculinity). We are against slut-shaming and virgin-shaming and believe in sex positivity.
We are against the term "narsissistic abuse" because we believe it's better described as "emotional abuse", "verbal abuse", "gaslighting", "manipulation" and/or "psychological abuse", and don't wish to stigmatize traumatized people's disorders even further.
[Blue & Lee📝:] We are in a lot of ways very dependent on boundaries, especially in friendships. So if we're chatting or even just mutuals PLEASE tell us if we ever overstep your boundaries or do anything with you you don't want, and any other boundaries. Also, applies to anyone, but tell us if you need anything tagged, we are willing to tag anything.

random concluding aos 2 thoughts:
i enjoyed this show so much. it’s been a while since i’ve been so completely invested in a k-drama like this. it made me feel like a teenage fangirl all over again. i’m not a fantasy lover either so i never expected to love this show as much as i do. between episodes, this show was on my mind and i think it’ll continue to be for a while.
overall, i loved alchemy of souls. it might be one of my favorite k-dramas ever. but the problem is that for me aos 2 had one major flaw, which i’ll talk about below. but first i want to talk about just some of things i liked.
likes (this isn’t all of them, just ones that come to mind rn):
uk + yeong!!! they are in LOVE!!!! and i love them!! i wish we got more of the playful bickering that was present in aos 1, but the chemistry here was off the charts!!!! watching them fall in love with each other (twice!) was a joy. they looked at each other with pure unconditional love. they also had some of the best kisses i’ve ever seen in a k-drama.
go yoonjung. we all adored jung somin’s portrayal of mudeok so deeply but yoonjung as yeong managed to capture my heart within the first episode. she did such an amazing job.
lee jaewook. he’s so so so so so good in this. he was acting. he made me laugh and he broke my heart.
a happy ending????!!!!!! i got so attached to this show and the characters in it so i was genuinely sad that it had to end and was not ready for a sad ending at all. although perhaps rushed, i think it made sense. i’m glad that after all the suffering the characters have been through, they get to be happy.
yeong. not gonna lie, i wanted to see naksu use her own sword just once. just one scene with the return of badass naksu and her killing jin mu but that’s not what we got. but surprisingly i’m fine with that. the last time she held her sword she killed the love of her life so i’m not surprised she doesn’t want to go back to that. instead yeong was able to grow without remembering any of her naksu trauma at first, allowing her the space to figure out who she truly is at her core. and after all the abuse she endured she is now able to choose what she wants to do with the person she loves.
my main dislike: the pacing.
all of my problems with this season all come down to how rushed the pacing is. this show would have been better as two seasons with 16 episodes each.
i think the plot as a whole makes sense but they could only fit so much into 10 episodes which meant parts were rushed. nothing had time to breathe. there was an overload of information crammed into the final 2 episodes, to the point where i had to rewatch a few scenes because i didn’t get it the first time around. for example, i didn’t realise that jin seol ran gave yeong her soul back. i thought she was being beamed up into the afterlife and was gone forever.
the events of the final 2 episodes should have been spread out over 4. there was a 30 episode build up for the fire bird only for it to be almost... anticlimactic? idk, i feel like there should have been a huge epic fight that should have lasted 60% of the episode, with the four seasons combining their powers or something. in reality it was over super quickly. maybe that was supposed to happen but they had to cut it for time, who knows. perhaps some of the unanswered questions wouldn’t exist if they simply had 2 more eps to flesh it out more. for example, did uk ever find out why mudeok killed him? (or did i just miss that scene?)
the shortness of aos 2 also meant parts of season 1 that we loved weren’t present because they didn’t have the time to show it as they had to move the major plot points forward.
i missed the uk/mudeok dynamic. we got hints of it but for me it wasn’t enough. we fell in love with the way uk and yeong fell in love in aos 1 because of their playfulness. so for us to watch them fall in love all over again in aos 2 and for the writers not to lean into that playfulness was a wasted opportunity. i like to think if they had more episodes, that dynamic would have developed naturally between them again.
on a similar note, i missed the humor of aos 1 where i think i laughed out loud in every episode. obviously there was a big tonal shift between seasons which made sense with the plot. the characters went through a lot so it was inevitable that things weren’t going to be as lighthearted as before. so in aos 2 there wasn’t the time for the characters to have fun because there was evil ahead. but it would have been nice to have a few more funny parts in season 2.
because of the lack of time, we didn’t get to see more of the four seasons. i loved seeing their interactions, they built up great friendship dynamics only to not show it in aos 2. we should have seen more of their powers/abilities. weren’t they supposed to be really powerful? we saw choyeon’s magic in s1 but in s2 we barely saw her! first she was angry at her father’s death and angry at danggu for not saving him. then she kissed him on the cheek. then we found out they fucked. then her mother almost died. now she’s married with twins. i was so ready for her to fuck shit up. at least we finally saw danggu in his katniss everdeen era.
in the epilogue of aos 2 the hong sisters had to break a major screenwriting rule of “show don’t tell”: there wasn’t enough time to show so they were forced to tell. so much happened offscreen. i wanted to see uk find out yeong was still alive. i wanted to see everyone discover that park jin and maidservant kim were still alive. they mentioned that yeong has a screening process for potential brides for gowon. i wish we’d seen that, that would have been funny!
all that being said, i think alchemy of souls is one of my favorites. of the hundreds of k-dramas i’ve watched, i’ve only given 6 of them a 10/10 and i’m tempted to make this the 7th. yes there were many flaws and it could have been executed better, but none of that takes away from how much i enjoyed watching it.
i don’t get attached to fictional characters easily. i don’t fangirl. i don’t read theories. yet with this show, i did all of the above. i was fully immersed in every episode and i enjoyed every second. i think the characters and this show will stay with me for a while.

All the jobs - FFXIV
Tumblr media
All of the jobs (except Blue Mage, which doesn't count for Project Amaro) are now to at least level 60 - and I have completed story to level 70 on all of them except Monk (see below).
In a way I'm sad that there aren't any more job quests to come at these levels, at least for now - but on the other hand I really enjoyed them and got SO much lore. Rigel made so many friends and allies, as well.
Overall, my favorites and not so favorites:
(spoilers for job quests up to level 80; some very light spoilers for Shadowbringers and early Endwalkers that won't mean much if you have not played them)
Amazing. Perfect. Best thing ever. Could watch or replay these stories a million times. Feel that they really contributed a lot of character development and lore for my WoL/WoD.
Reaper - Just perfection. I'm stunned this is only a ten level job because they pack so much in, so well, and it's just so satisfying with an NPC you can't help but love.
Dark Knight - A amazing deep dive into the WoL's heart and soul that reflects a lot of the emotions they don't necessarily share about everything happening to and around them. Just a chef's kiss from start to the level 80 quest, with memorable NPCs who will become dear friends. Mostly. Black Mage - You stop a Calamity. For reals. You work with black mages from several tribes. You meet the mother of black magic. And you also get to see a happy ending for a character who I swear must be a reflection of one of the Warriors of Darkness who really needed a happy ending somewhere. I also love the way the magic itself is portrayed, which is a very cool contrast to the whole very dogmatic black and white binary we see in other media *coughStarWars*: no magic is "evil;" it's all about how and where it is used. Absolute irony, really, that the most infuriating job in the game for me has one of the top three stories.
Tumblr media
Arcanist - A story of triumph for a survivor of abuse and trauma, and the kindest guild master in the game (yeah, we know she's not officially the guild master but who cares, she is) Scholar - Amazing lore, amazing storytelling and characters you just can't forget and can't help but love, with this deep dive into Nym and Amdapour.  Rogue - Jacke and the Rogue's Guild are a lot of fun, and this storyline was great.  Dragoon - Well, if you know who's in the dragoon story you know why this one might be epic. But more than that it shows the first thoughts of shifting attitudes toward dragons, and I love the storyline with Heustienne.
Not quite the blockbusters the above were, but still really special and I think I'd enjoy repeating them very much.
Tumblr media
Bard - Fun NPCs, some cool background info, and moogles! Sage - Well, this story won't have me joining the Forum's Fan Club anytime soon. Great cast of NPCs and some good information on Sharlayan.  Pugilist - A really fun cast of characters and some prelude to the Banquet. Yes, THAT one.  Gladiator - Mostly because of the guildmaster and her interactions with others, which continue all the way through the Paladin chain.  Red Mage - Great NPCs, a moment of completely lapsed judgment for the WoL (hint: maybe don't go near the evil coffin next time, k?) and some really interesting lore.  Astrologian - This job shows you the same magic/knowledge being used in three very different ways- in Ishgard, Sharlayan and Kugane. You will not want to join the Forum Fan Club from this either. The clothing you get from this job is simply beautiful (sadly not Rigel's style, but definitely Suvia's). The stakes for the levels 60-70 quests in Kugane are very high and really hearken to the Four Lords.  Thaumaturge - The Coco brothers. OMG. Cocobuki and his merry band of brothers of destruction are pretty awesome, and what starts out as a somewhat nihilistic quest chain ends up quite heartwarming. And the Coco brothers star, which is all great.  Gunbreaker - I wasn't at all sure what to expect from this quest chain, but I loved it. It makes one part of early Endwalker even more chilling, but also gives some vindication for some people who were conscripted into the Garlean army. There's also a very fun quest early on with a lot of levity and a fun NPC.  Machinist - You get to work with some really wonderful NPCs, including Hilda from the MSQ. I also really liked the premise, which was to help residents of the Brume/non-nobles learn a combat skill and find their place with the defense of Ishgard. There's a lot of good stuff about Ishgard moving from a theocratic dictatorship to what it has after Heavensward. I didn't like the actual job of Machinist because it's essentially a gun, but the premise and Hilda, Joye and Stephanivien were so cool. Also, unlike any other job you get a brand-new soul crystal with nothing on it, because this is such a new job.
Paladin - Meh until level 60, although you do get some prelude to THAT banquet. You meet someone who appears to be another Warrior of Darkness' reflection. Level 60-70 serves to right a lot of wrongs and leave the WoL and player feeling very loved, supported and surrounded by friends.
Dancer - Some great NPCs, and the level 80 quest is amazing, but overall I didn't think it was as monumental as some of the others.  Maurauder - I really liked the way the Marauders were incorporated into the Yellowjackets and tasked with protecting the populace of La Noscea from some unusual and dangerous threats. If you were to play through this at level with the MSQ it's a very stark contrast to the Brass Blades.  Ninja - I like that Jacke and the Rogues Guild played a major role here, especially in the later stories. There was one scene in level 70 that made me burst out laughing.
Pretty placid. Nothing particularly bad or good here.
Conjurer - I literally cannot even remember what this questline is about, other than Sophie.  White Mage - Sophie and Gabby are fun, and I love when a particular NPC has an, ahem, spirited conversation with the padjals but so unmemorable I can't even tell you the plot anymore.
Samurai - See white mage.
Summoner - Hooks into an interesting section of post-Shadowbringers MSQ and some of the NPCs like Prin and Y'mitra are a lot of fun, but otherwise didn't really grab me much.
Not a fan.
Archer - You constantly have to work with a xenophobic jackass in the guild, who almost succeeds in driving one of your fellow archers away. It's not fun. Warrior - I just can't make heads or tails of this story. It's funny at times, but overall a bit of a mess IMHO. So you can work with a reaper scythe, a sword and various and sundry deadly physical and magical tools without issues, but if you swing an axe you turn into the Incredible Hulk. Or something. Eh.
This is so terrible I am not even finishing it.
Monk - I really don't understand how or why this story and NPCs ended up in FFXIV. It really is the antithesis of the positivity you find in the rest of the game. The main quest giver from level 30 onward is an asshole - there's no nicer way to say it, he's an arrogant, pompous, verbally abusive asshole. He insults the WoL's intellect and character in every single conversation, and the WoL has no agency at any time to even respond. I can't think of a single reason the WoL would have even continued working with this man. I think that even during ARR, when they're getting ordered around a lot, they would have told him to fuck off and quit on the spot. They don't really get anything out of this, other than a lot of derogatory comments lobbed in their direction. Oh, and someone betrays them, and then they have to work with that person from level 50 on.
I hung on with this until level 50, with the hopes that 50-60 and onward would be better and different. Alas, no. I stopped playing the story quests at level 50. Does that mean I'm limping along with very few abilities? Damn right it does, and that's infinitely better than enduring those NPCs again. I've already decided that if it's not enough to level this to 80 and I need to complete the story quests for the amaro, I'm going to spacebar through it without even reading the text.

Figured I should make a new introduction post-!
My names Allan, I’m a 21 year old guy from Canada. Strictly he/him/his pronouns.
I mainly post Tokyo Ghoul fanart but that’s just cause my hyperfixations tend to have a chokehold on my creativity. Though I’m gonna try to post more OC content again this year as that’s where my true passion is.
I’m a gorehound who indulges in dark fiction, both tasteful and trashy. I do my best to tag everything correctly but even so, if you are sensitive to themes of gore, horror, mental illness, trauma, etc, my page may not be the best for you.
I (hopefully obviously) think the notion of “if you like ___ in fiction it means you condone the real life equivalent.” is a dangerous and disgusting mindset.
The majority of my work is influenced by music in some way. Favorite artists are The pAper chAse, Frank Zappa, The Cramps, Ethel Cain, UNI and The Urchins, Nicole Dollanganger, Butchers Harem, The Moutan Goats, Harley Poe, The Dresden Dolls, Tom Waits, The Decembrists and Los Campesinos!
Additional information: I do pyscodelics (LSD and mushrooms) semi regularly, have a huge fixation on the 60s-70s and an interest in Catholicism. I love urban exploring, have many many collections of various oddities. Feel weirdly connected to dogs though I am not even remotely a dog person. Uuuhh I have a rabbit, her name is Craig.
Please don’t follow me if you’re under 16, do not try to befriend me if you’re under 18. I am fine with people who are younger then 16 interacting with my posts (liking, reblogging, etc) but please nothing beyond that. I’ve never posted explicit content but on the off chance I ever do please don’t interact with it if you’re under 18!
K bye.

I’m trying to give more minis and limited runs a try this year, what are some that you count as must-reads? 💖💖💖
hiiiiiiiiiii <333
you've come to the right place, THE HOME OF THE OBSCURE MINISERIES. okay, let's do this!
set in the dcu/vertigo
martian manhunter: american secrets (1992) - three issue miniseries exploring j'onn's early years on earth and his status as a literal alien relating to 50s/60s counterculture, the ufo craze and various conspiracy theories of the era. good art, great writing -- it's opening paragraph and sometimes-tagline ("strangers to each other, we were both greater strangers to the hordes of new york. he was a beatnik. i was a martian.") plays in my mind every so often and tells you a great deal about the tone we're playing with here!
arkham city: the order of the world (2021) - six issue miniseries. you'll rarely see a modern recommendation from me, let alone a batman-related one, but i feel like this little book sort of slipped through the cracks when it came out and it's more than worth reading for the sublime art alone. horror miniseries following one doctor's attempts at rounding up some of arkham's less conventional escapees.
mystik u (2017) - three issue miniseries. while not strictly set in the actual canon dc universe, it's an uproariously fun book about a young zatanna's days at a school for magic users and it's got some great great characterisation for the likes of, say, mister e & the trenchcoat brigade that we haven't seen in decades and decades. which speaking of,
mister e (1991) - four issue miniseries. this is one i rec pretty often on here but if anything fits the actual definition of a must-read for me, then it's this mister e solo book. ostensibly a sequel to the books of magic (1990), which is another go-to recommendation, this is a little horror tale of abuse and trauma and deeply repressed sexuality among a surreal attempt to take charge of one's own destiny. tw for child abuse (i can be more specific in a dm!)
hawkworld (1989) - three issue miniseries. this is the post-crisis origin of the thanagarian hawks, with a specific focus on katar hol's evolution from policeman to vigilante and all the ideals betrayed in-between.
vigilante: city lights, prairie justice (1995) - four issue miniseries. another sincere & legitimate must read! this is classic james robinson, blending westerns with noir and the golden age of comics, and it follows greg saunder's short-lived hollywood years and the insane revenge quest that consumes him. one of the very best books i've ever read, with astounding art too!
challengers of the unknown (1991) - eight issue miniseries. who doesn't love washed up heroes living off their own merchandise and fame until tragedy forces them back into the people they've forgotten how to be? a compelling look at some of the few heroes that have been allowed to age not to gracefully, and then their quest to find themselves again. tim sale's art is hit or miss for me but this is a definite hit!
superman/doomsday: hunter/prey (1994) - three issue miniseries set immediately after clark's return to life, featuring doomsday's unexpectedly tragic origin. i'm rarely a superman fan but i adored this one and in fact own the trade.
jonni thunder (1985) - four issue miniseries. a female private investigator with all the trappings of the archetypical noir detective and johnny thunder's powers. there's really not much else i can say!
sugar & spike: metahuman investigations (2016) - originally appearing in the backups of legends of tomorrow (2016) #1-6, this keith giffen/bilquis evely humor book sees grown up versions of sheldon mayer's world-famous sugar & spike dealing with all the unpleasant, better-forgotten, just plain weird embarrassments of the world's most famous heroes. their first case is finding batman's rainbow batsuits before their existence is leaked to the general public!
adam strange (1990) - three issue miniseries. legitimately an all time favourite book based on the kubert brothers' art alone, we follow adam strange's last night on earth before he's set to move to rann permanently and all the regrets that come with it. the definitive adam strange portrayal, and a magnificently written one at that!
standalone
nathaniel dusk (1985)/nathaniel dusk ii (1986) - four issue miniseries. if this isn't a must-read then i don't know what is! i mentioned this one in my 'comix of the year' round-up so i'll just go ahead and copy paste what i said there: "the quintessential film noir, in comic book form. gene colan's art makes the miniseries but dusk is a truly unique outing no matter how you look at it, and its status as ostensibly set in the real post-wwi world makes it all that more fascinating. nathaniel dusk is a hardboiled detective whose career is marred by too-personal tragedy, the book's custom made for anybody who's as big on character studies and character-driven pieces as i am".
cinder & ashe (1988) - four issue miniseries. again from my round-up: "at its heart, this is a story about the vietnam war but also a harrowing mystery thriller set in new orleans and an exploration of racism, the military industrial complex, and two lives consumed by grief." there's not much i can say that won't spoil it but trust me, there's a reason it's one of my favourite books!
wild dog (1987) - four issue miniseries. the book follows mysterious vigilante wild dog, who takes to the streets with a baseball bat and single-minded determination in an attempt to put an end to the crime wave that had cost him the life of his girlfriend. it's a fun, action-packed miniseries that keeps you guessing the whole time and doesn't reveal wild dog's identity until the very last issue!
jonny double (1998) - four issue miniseries. down on his luck private investigator is hired to plan out the perfect heist, and it only gets better from there! a solidly fun, sincerely fantastic book with some great art from eduardo risso and extremely clever writing. some gaycoding thrown in for flavour, too.
slash maraud (1987) - six issue miniseries. a sci-fi/dystopian story, we follow slash maraud and a gang of lesbian bikers as they try to avert the incoming apocalypse on an a lawless earth where humanity's only got five years left to live. exactly as fun as it sounds!
tempus fugitive (1990) - four issue miniseries. a freedom fighter from the far future travels across time in an attempt to change his present. a recent read but a thoroughly enjoyable one.
there's a lot i'm missing, and i mean a whole lot, so i suggest taking a look at my completed series list and seeing if anything jumps out (for example, you've simply got to read wrath of the spectre!) but this is what came to mind just now! hope it helps a little bit!
