Hello, State Library staff person! Does SLQ have much archival material about queensland queer history? I've got a novel on the backburner involvinglesbian history in rural queensland. It's going to need a much heftier research process than I've done for other projects, and I was thinking SLQ could be a good starting place for it.
Hello!
What an amazing concept for a novel - will it be a nonfiction piece or a fiction piece? I hope you'll be interested in providing a legal deposit copy of it to the library once it's published!
In terms of LGBTQIA+ collections, not only do we have a selection, but we are also always working to increase and broaden our holdings to better reflect the experiences of all Queenslanders.
We have a launch pad for research into our LGBTQIA+ collections right here: LINK
Last year we also introduced a Rainbow Research Fellowship, which is (up to) $20,000 awarded annually and is given to a researcher dedicated to uncovering and sharing LGBTQIA+ stories within our collections. So if you're looking for a way to get that project off the backburner and you'd like to spend some time neck-deep in collections....
Also, as a side note: did you know that Queensland's first premier, Robert Herbert, had a male companion (John Bramston) with whom he lived, combined last names, and named their house this combined last name in testament to their bond?

I can’t stress enough that we all need to vote. Anti- LGBTQ, anti-women, anti-trans and anti-choice groups like the ADF depend on you voting in conservatives so they can use them to spread their evil. People love to say liberals do ‘nothing’ but the fact that their majority presence halts nasty shit like that is a BIG something. This group has been siding behind conservatives that nearly every anti lawsuit, bill and order has had their backing.
These people helped overturn Roe and the recent court decision to allow folks to discriminate against you all.
This article goes to point out they prey on other conservative majority nations like Russia to get them to enact threatening anti-LGBTQ legislation. They push into progressive countries waiting for them to become susceptible to their talking points through conservative officials or ones that simply hate queer folks.
Vote in democrats if only to create a barrier of protection from groups like this that threaten our well being and our democracy.

Did you try your best, Kawi?
So . . . next week's previews weren't narrated by Kawi.
This is the first time Kawi hasn't told us to tune in next week to observe how he changes his future. This is the first time he hasn't pondered what will happen to him in the future.
Possibly because Kawi finally understands the time-travel assignment:
Tumblr media
Remember when My School President told us that even when we try our best, we can still fail?
Tumblr media
And remember when My School President pulled a Miley Cyrus and told us it wasn't about the destination but the climb?
Tumblr media
Oh, and remember when My School President told us that we are stronger together?
Tumblr media
Or do you remember when My School President told us we can't give up even when the goal seems impossible?
Tumblr media
Well, in case you forgot the numerous lessons that My School President taught us in order to complete this assignment, Be My Favorite is here to reinforce them with some extra bonus lessons:
Lesson #1 - Be present.
Tumblr media
Kawi is finally getting it. He needs to be patient. He needs to sit tight. He needs to put in the effort in the present, regardless of where that present exists, without trying to throw himself years into the future or constantly being stuck in the past.
Tumblr media
He needs to live the life he has NOW, and not the one he wanted. He must be present, which is probably why he didn't narrate next week's episode previews.
Lesson #2 - We can't run away from our problems.
Tumblr media
Pisaeng's mom is right. Life would be better for a gay man in a country with marriage equality, same-sex parenting recognition, LGBTQIA rights, and anti-discrimination policies. But that's not why she wants him to leave the country. Pisaeng's mom has 99 problems, and currently Pisaeng being gay is all of them. But what she doesn't realize is our issues won't go away if we hide (from) them. They will get bigger, and instead of just hurting ourselves, they will begin to hurt others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pisaeng tried to bury his feelings, and ended up assaulting Kawi while he was drunk on his wedding day after leaving Pear at the altar. Kawi is an alcoholic in the future who broke Pear and Pisaeng's hearts. Pear is unsatisfied with her life even though she keeps pushing to be the best and hurts her best friend by settling for a man unworthy of both of them. Problems are like bacteria; they can be good or bad for us, but either way, left alone, they'll quickly multiple until we can't ignore them.
Lesson #3 - Be honest with yourself.
Tumblr media
The second lesson leads into the third because in order to stop running from our problems, we have to be willing to recognize we have a problem. Kawi didn't want to admit he had problems even before the drinking began. When Kawi asked Pisaeng if he should go to rehab, Pisaeng told him that only he knew the answer. Pisaeng learned this from Max who told Pisaeng that the answer to his queerness was within himself. Kawi doesn't want to answer any of these questions because that would mean he has to be honest about his issues. He doesn't owe any of those reporters the truth, but partly why Kawi hesitates is because he, himself, doesn't know what the truth is. Well, not until he is forced to.
Lesson #4 - Learn from your mistakes.
Tumblr media
When the show started, Kawi believed his whole life was one big mistake after another. He went back to the past to correct those mistakes, yet his biggest mistake has always been pushing people away.
Tumblr media
He stopped talking to Max. He didn't pursue Pear. He rejected Pisaeng. Max has called him out on this behavior, and Max told Kawi he was an alcoholic as well. Pisaeng didn't want to believe Max until Pisaeng subtly confirmed these issues. Then, Pisaeng left Kawi. Alone. Kawi doesn't have his dad there to guide him, but as much as Kawi pushed his dad to TRY to do better for himself, Kawi hasn't given himself that same treatment. Which is why being alone forces him to learn from his mistakes, and we see him stop drinking, even in the future. We see him accepting Pear's dinner invitation, going to Max's rally, and telling Pisaeng he likes him. We see him trying to be better.
Lesson #5 - Have confidence in yourself.
Tumblr media
Pisaeng is Linda Evangelista. Kawi has confirmed this every chance he can. But Kawi sucks. Kawi thinks he sucks because he needs help, all the time, while Pisaeng never needs any help. Yet, episode eight explicitly told Kawi that he was The Brave Little Toaster of his friends. Max mentioned that Kawi positively impacted Max by telling Max to stay. Pear's perfect demeanor seems to be morphing as she realizes the dream life she had envisioned as the perfect girl isn't all it's cracked up to be. And Pisaeng told Kawi before that Kawi has changed his life because although Kawi needs his friends, his friends need him just as much.
The Assignment - Try Your Best
Tumblr media
Doing everything right doesn't mean you'll win. Giving your all doesn't guarantee the prize. Trying your best doesn't equal success. Sometimes you lose no matter how much effort you put in.
Tumblr media
But the lesson here is even if you fail, you won't have regrets.
Tumblr media
To generalize my idol Ron Swanson from Parks & Recreation, you can't half-ass the shit you care about. You gotta put your whole-ass in it. You have to be present. You can't run away from your issues. You need to be honest with yourself. You must learn from your mistakes. And you gotta have confidence in yourself. Because only then will you know you tried your best.
And even if you get to the end of the road empty-handed,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You'll have the friends you made along the way there to help you find your way back to the start.
Tumblr media
No more half-assing, Kawi!
Tumblr media
We deserve your best whole-ass effort.

For a group that can't define the word Woman TRAs have no trouble knowing who
A female-only lesbian advocacy group in France was excluded from their local Pride parade on the basis that they did not allow the membership of trans-identified males. Femmes Entre Elles was labeled “transphobic” for restricting its advocacy to issues faced by women.
Femmes Entre Elles, which translates to “Women Among Themselves,” is a single-sex association for lesbian and bisexual women that has operated for over 30 years. It has been involved in campaigns to support women’s sex-based rights and the rights of lesbian women.
But on May 27, the group was informed via email that they were not welcome to participate in the annual Pride march in Rennes, which was held on June 17. Leading local LGBT center Iskis explained that the decision was made because Femmes Entre Elles did not welcome the membership of men who claim to be women.
“We regret to announce that we have decided not to accept your participation as an association in the Associative Village and the Procession of the Pride March 2023,” read the e-mail.
Tumblr media
"This decision follows your position vis-à-vis trans women, in particular through an article of your statutes: ‘the association is open to any woman, born female, wishing to take part,’ as well as remarks made to associative volunteers during the Pride March last year.”
Iskis asserted that Femmes Entre Elles‘ policy limiting membership to “any woman born female” is in “direct contradiction” with their own “ethical charter of participation” in Pride events. Reduxx reached out to Iskis requesting further comment on their decision, but did not receive a reply.
Tumblr media
Representatives of Femmes Entre Elles officially complained about their exclusion on the basis of the association’s statutes asserting that membership is limited to “women born female” to the elected representative of Rennes, Ariane Cousin, who acts as an “anti-discrimination officer” for the town.
In response, Cousin told Femmes Entre Elles that she agreed with Iskis’ decision and referred to the women as “TERFs” in her reply. “I understand and agree with the reaction of Iskis. The TERFy behaviour manifested by the association Femmes Entre Elles has no place in the Pride parade, which is above all inclusive,” Cousin asserted.
Tumblr media
But Femmes Entre Elles was not the only woman-only group which found itself excommunicated from its local LGBT community for holding pro-woman views. Another women-only group in Marseilles has been prevented from participating in Pride on an ongoing basis since 2021.
Centre Évolutif Lilith (CEL) has been ostracized by the wider LGBTQIA community in their area despite having participated in the very first Pride event held in Marseille in 1994. But after the associated modified its statues to restrict memberships to females-only, they came under fire by trans activists in the area.
According to a press release by CEL issued in June of 2021, the group had first begun to limit membership in response to a series of violent attacks from trans activists against the lesbian feminist community.
“The association is open to any woman born of the biological sex of female. This decision was made after learning of the existence of several acts of aggression and harassment suffered by lesbian associations from groups trans activists,” the 2021 press release read.
“Until then the CEL had not faced any aggression. In March 2021, the CEL was excluded from the PRIDE Marseille steering committee. The reasons given are our change of statutes excluding trans women and our abolitionist positions and against surrogacy.”
Tumblr media
Noémie Pillas, the coordinator of the LGBTQIA+ Marseille Center and co-president of PRIDE Marseille Organization specifically highlighted the group’s anti-surrogacy position as a reason why they were being ousted from Pride events. Pillas also mentioned the lesbian association’s female-only policy, which she labeled exclusionary.
“We have also been able to observe the many openly transphobic publications of your Facebook page. Thus, it seems complex to us to work calmly together in view of our differences,” Pillas said.
Representatives for CEL responded in a communication sent on April 14 affirming they were a “non-mixed lesbian feminist association,” and outlined the reasons for their updated policy.
“Currently and for some time, it is lesbians and women who are in danger with the arrival of ‘queer’ ideology and the actions of ‘trans activists.’ Once again, it is women and lesbians who are insulted, abused, attacked. This year, during the demonstrations of March 8, the international day to defend women’s rights, several incidents took place: feminists were attacked because they are against the commodification of the female body.”
On International Women’s Day 2021, women’s rights activist Marguerite Stern was pelted with eggs by trans activists in a coordinated and premeditated assault. She, along with members of two feminist groups, L’Amazone and the Collective for the Abolition of Pornography and Prostitution (CAPP), had gathered to hold a demonstration at the Place de la République in Paris.
Tumblr media
The women, many of whom were survivors of the sex trade, soon found themselves swarmed and outnumbered by trans activists who called them “SWERFs,” for Sex Worker Exclusionary Radical Feminist, and shouted “no feminism without whores.”
At the base of the monument located at the center of the Place de la République, trans activists spray painted a menacing message: “Save a trans person, kill a TERF.”
CEL pointed to these examples and more as a reason why they should be allowed to limit their scope of interest and membership.
A month after they were informed that organizers were questioning their participation in Pride, CEL received a press release from Rainbowshlag, a group that claims to be part of the “queer trans” community. In an email that was sent to several other affiliated organizations, Rainbowshlag called for their full exclusion not only from Pride, but from both the feminist and LGBT community.
In their email, Rainbowshlag accused CEL members of being “whorephobic, transphobic, transmisogynist, racist, and therefore violent and not representative of the diversity of the LGBTQI+ community, since it opposes trans people and sex workers.”
Tumblr media
The email, dated May 16, was sent and addressed to the Department for the Fight Against Discrimination (la Maison Départementale de Lutte contre les Discriminations – MLD), a leading LGBT group in Marseilles that receives government funding, as well as several other feminist groups.
On May 29, a member of CEL shared an article criticizing gender identity ideology, but soon thought better of doing so and deleted the post. However, it had already been seen by their critics and prompted a flood of condemnation.
A second communication from Rainbowshlag was widely shared through an email list on May 31 following that instance, calling for a “strong stance” against CEL, and for the LGBT and feminist network to “denounce the violence of the article published” to their Facebook page. The message was again sent to the government body, MLD.
In total, 39 collectives and organizations signed on to the denunciation, including STRASS, (Syndicat du TRAvail Sexuel), a group which campaigns for the full decriminalization of the sex industry. As a result, members of CEL were called into Town Hall to explain themselves and relay details of the controversy.
A spokeswoman for CEL, Chantal Girard, recently spoke with Reduxx with the assistance of Audrey Aard, a French correspondent who writes about current events related to women’s rights. Girard confirmed that the group’s funding, which had previously been provided through the MLD, was pulled last year in direct response to the accusations of “transphobia.”
Girard explained that at the beginning of 2023, CEL reached out to the elected representative for women’s rights, Nathalie Tessier, requesting assistance and funding.
“She shares our feminist views against sexual and reproductive exploitation and spoke at the City Council on our behalf. So the City Council suggested that they could help us in some other way, to give us a building, a place to organize. That was in January of this year, we made an official request and since then we have received nothing,” Girard said.
“Since the 90s, our relationship with gay men has always been intense, but at least we could talk, argue and still organize together. Today, Pride has nothing to do with homosexuality. It’s about capitalism: surrogacy and prostitution, male paraphilias.
This is morally very difficult to live with. We had never had the experience of being called fascists before! When I think of everything we’ve done since the ’90s against the far right! We were at the origin of the first Pride in 1994. We organized it with lesbians and gays. There were a few hundred of us and we wore Venetian masks for fear of being recognized. We also protested to allow gay marriage, we were on all fronts and in all the battles.”
“Since last year, when we lost our funding, we have not been idle. We have regrouped with feminist and women’s rights organizations such as the CIAMS, WDI France, the Collectif 13 Droits des femmes, the Front Féministe and we recently created a brand new lesbian inter-association : Agora Lesbiennes feminists.”
Tensions have escalated in recent years in France, with several documented instances of abolitionist women and lesbians being assaulted by trans activists.
In April, a symposium in Nantes intended to raise awareness of the plight of Afghan and Iranian women was cancelled after trans activists threatened to violently ambush the event because of the presence of a gender critical speaker, Marguerite Stern, who speaks out against femicide and male violence.
In February, another prominent advocate for women’s rights was informed that she is being taken to criminal court over accusations of “misgendering” two transgender public figures. Dora Moutot, a best-selling author and co-founder of Femelliste alongside Stern, is facing a legal complaint alleging insults on the basis of gender identity.
Earlier this month, Reduxx reported on the closure of a lesbian bar that has operated in Rennes, France for nearly a decade. La Part des Anges was forced to shut down following a disturbing swell of vandalism and death threats by trans activists following a public denunciation. The bar’s owner had been defending lesbian women from sexual harassment on the part of men who claim a transgender status.

“Cancel Culture”
Louis C.K. Wins a Grammy for His Comedy Album About Cancellation
Dave Chappelle Wins Grammy for Netflix Special Condemned for Being Transphobic
Meanwhile…
“Between January and September 2021, 24 legislatures across the United States introduced 54 separate bills intended to restrict teaching and training in K-12 schools, higher education, and state agencies and institutions. The majority of these bills target discussions of race, racism, gender, and American history…” (Source)
Half of the top ten banned books for 2021 were banned in part for “LGBTQIA+ content.” (Source)
“In the last few years states have advanced a record number of bills that attack LGBTQ rights, especially transgender youth.” (Source)
“An NPR analysis of this fast-changing landscape found that over the past two years, state lawmakers introduced at least 306 bills targeting trans people, more than in any previous period.” (Source)
“…in recent years, more than 400 anti-voter bills have been introduced in 48 states. These bills erect unnecessary barriers for people to register to vote, vote by mail, or vote in person.” (Source)
“…at least 19 states have so-called “anti-critical race theory” laws or regulations—despite the fact that CRT is rarely taught below the graduate university level. Even more school boards enacted policies or changed curricula in an effort to restrict how teachers talk to their students about race and diversity.” (Source)
In general, it feels like the people complaining the loudest about “cancel culture” are the ones with big platforms (Hi, J. K. Rowling!) and huge followings. Wouldn’t it be nice if they could use those platforms to speak up on behalf of the people who are actually being suppressed and silenced?

analysis of in compliance of community guidelines
Hello, here is a short analysis of my painting for those who requested it. Hope this is to your liking and please let me know if you have any feedback, as a wrote this pretty quickly
In Compliance With Community Guidelines (2022) is first and foremost a reflection on the current political climate regarding trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming and intersex identities in the global north. It is a direct outcry against the unjust policing of our bodies and active effort to deny us of our bodily autonomy. The main thesis of this work is just that, a critique of the hundreds of anti-LGBTQIA+ policies and legislations that have been put into law in since the beginning of the pandemic, feeding into the narrative that non-cis bodies, bodies that do not conform to a heteronormative and eurocentric binary standard, are inherently sexual in nature. The portrayal of trans people as scapegoat boogeyman has led to an increase in the already present issue of censorship of queer and trans identities, most notably in the ever-so-sanitised and advertiser friendly online space. In our social age, this leads to a surge in completely safe-for-work content and users being flagged, reported, taken down or even banned, an issue that disproportionately affects trans feminine individuals (though this piece depicts the artist, a transmasculine person).
In terms of technique, the piece consists of a painting, a quilt, and some ornate embroidering. Squares of white fabric were first hand printed into their respective colours by screen printing on it using the quadricromia (CMYK) printing process. They were then cut to size and sewn together in order to build the quilt, which was hemmed and then attached to canvas with a sewing machine. The canvas was stretched out on a frame, prepped and then painted on around the quilt. Embroidered scars were added at the end to serve as detail.
Moreover, this piece serves as a challenge against the current art trends leaning strongly towards digital mediums and techniques such as digital art, 3D modelling and to an extent, NFTs and AI art. On one hand, the piece was created using only traditional mediums, a blend of painting, traditional printmaking and textile techniques. These methods of artistic expression have been used for centuries by artists, yet are slowly fading from the mainstream. As such, In Compliance With Community Guidelines serves as a reminder of their value and relevance of such techniques in an increasingly digital art market. The painting style is purposefully appropriative of said digital aesthetic and so is the use of pixelation within the quilt. Furthermore, the colour palette alludes to the vivid screen-like experience of a digital drawing. It was in fact inspired by the RGB colour model used by screens to emulate an array of colours.
On another hand, the specific use of quilting as a technique was done in a way to specifically highlight forms of art that were deemed irrelevant and reduced to the title of crafts by the sole reason of being historically done by women. The same can be said about the embroidered scars on the top of the painting. The use of textile is in reference to the act of mending, creating anew: not only transforming oneself into a desired form, but also reflecting the mark, the scar that is left behind.
Lastly, the usage of trans bodies as artistic nudity reflects the artist’s ongoing statement on the massive lack of  representation of trans identities and corporeality in art history. The body depicted is done in a way to directly reference famous nude art, which historically almost exclusively portray white cisgender women; if diverging from that norm, then used as fetish to the coloniser gaze.
Notes: 1- trans is used as an umbrella term in this essay in order to abridge the whole thing
2- CMYK =cyan magenta yellow black colour model used in printing
3-RGB = red green blue colour model used in screens/light specific mediums

I know I'm going to come off as paranoid, but I think my worry is this: if LGBTQIA+ topics are socially deemed to be "inappropriate to children", if you can't mention queerness or transness around kids at all, then the law can be changed so that LGBTQIA+ people can't be around children. Section 28 again, but applying to all occupations that might cause a queer person to interact with a child (so no teachers, librarians, or public sector work at all); people potentially being arrested or marked as perverts for being closeted and in these occupations. Queer and trans people being unable to adopt children, unable to access IVF, and even having their children taken away from them; trans people also having to be sterilised, unmarried and childless/with adult children in order to change their gender markers. I can go on.
I think people would say I'm using a "slippery slope" fallacy - perhaps linking protests about Drag Story Time to people having their families broken up - but a lot of these WERE the policies that the UK ran on until only 20 years ago (I know older butches who were threatened with losing their children, for example), and many countries still have some form of the other policies in place; I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility for this to be the end point of all this homophobic and transphobic rhetoric that's going around right now.
Am I being daft? I feel like it's the obvious "goal" of the right wing, but I've not seen anyone bring it up.
You aren’t. In some places in America they started kidnapping kids from parents not just if the kid was trans but even if one of the parents was too.
They don’t want us around kids. Full stop. Anyone who tries to claim it’s a slippery slope fallacy doesn’t understand how this shit works.
It’s like when people said “just go to another bakery” when a gay couple was refused a wedding cake, and then republicans literally tried to make it legal for people to refuse queer folk housing. Some people even on the left are waaaay too tolerant of anti-LGBTQ people.

RAFAEL SILVA AND 250+ INFLUENTIAL FIGURES JOIN GLAAD AND HRC IN CALLING ON SOCIAL MEDIA CEOS TO PROTECT AGAINST ANTI-TRANS HATE
Rafael Silva has joined more than 250 LGBTQIA+ celebrities and allies in signing a letter addressed to Mark Zuckerberg (Meta Platforms, Inc.), Neal Mohan (YouTube/Alphabet Inc.), Shou Zi Chew (TikTok/ByteDance Ltd.), and Linda Yaccarino and Elon Musk (Twitter, Inc./X Corp) to stop the flow of anti-trans hate and malicious disinformation about trans healthcare on their platforms.
GLAAD’s Press Release can be found here.
Read the full letter below:
June 27, 2023
To: Mark Zuckerberg, Meta Platforms, Inc. Neal Mohan, YouTube/Alphabet Inc. Shou Zi Chew, TikTok/ ByteDance Ltd. Linda Yaccarino and Elon Musk, Twitter, Inc./X Corp
As celebrities, influencers, and prominent public figures with significant followings on social media, we the undersigned are calling on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitter to fulfill the promises you’ve made to transgender, nonbinary, gender non-conforming and all LGBTQ users in your terms of service. There has been a massive systemic failure to prohibit hate, harassment, and malicious anti-LGBTQ disinformation on your platforms and it must be addressed.
Dangerous posts (both content and ads) created and circulated by high-follower anti-LGBTQ hate accounts targeting transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people are thriving across your platforms, directly resulting in terrifying real-life [1] harm [2] including bomb threats [3] targeting children’s hospitals that offer healthcare for trans youth, and death threats [4] targeting care providers. [5] Such false and hate-driven widely circulated content on your platforms is even being cited by lawmakers advancing discriminatory legislation against trans people. [6] Targeted misgendering and deadnaming of trans and nonbinary people is a widespread mode of hate speech [7] across all platforms, utilized to bully and harass prominent public figures while simultaneously expressing hatred and contempt for trans and non-binary people in general. [8]
This disinformation and hate, inadequately moderated on your platforms, plays an outsized role in the sharp increase in real-world anti-transgender targeting and violence. [9] As documented by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation in 2022, [10] this is particularly the case when it comes to the online extremists leading proactive coordinated campaigns of hate and lies about gender affirming healthcare for trans youth. [11] Despite the fact that every leading medical and psychological association affirms the safety and necessity of gender affirming healthcare for trans people, including youth, inflammatory disinformation falsely asserting that this healthcare is dangerous is allowed to fester on your platforms because it drives clicks and profit. Trans youth and their families and care providers are being endangered by your negligence, causing many families to flee their homes. [12]
Your policies and corresponding enforcement are inadequate when it comes to mitigating harmful and dangerous anti-LGBTQ content. You must urgently take action to protect trans and LGBTQ users on your platforms (including protecting us from over-enforcement and censorship).
We call for you to meet with community leaders and creators to hear about these real world harms that result from anti-trans content on your platforms — and to create and share plans for how you will address:
Content that spreads malicious lies and disinformation about medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth. As described above, such harmful content from high-follower hate-based accounts has resulted in extraordinary real-world harms. [13] Specific mitigations on such disinformation must be developed (for instance akin to election and COVID-19 mitigations and rules).
Accounts and postings that perpetuate anti-LGBTQ extremist hate [14] and disinformation, [15] in violation of platform policies, and which target trans and LGBTQ people, including baseless and malicious disinformation of LGBTQ people being threats to children (e.g. the anti-LGBTQ “groomer” conspiracy theory [16]). Such harmful and dangerous lies must be more effectively moderated and mitigated.
Dehumanizing, hateful attacks on prominent transgender public figures and influencers. Online attacks against LGBTQ organizations and individuals are on the rise. [17] A recent report from GLAAD, UltraViolet, Kairos, and the Women’s March shows that 60% of LGBTQ people feel harmed not only from direct harassment and hate, but from witnessing harassment against other LGBTQ community members such as celebrities and public figures. [18] Directing hate against LGBTQ public figures is a common vehicle for expressing general anti-LGBTQ bigotry. When your companies maintain policy loopholes that allow such hate, this perpetuates harm against entire communities.
Anti-transgender hate speech, including targeted misgendering, deadnaming, and hate-driven tropes. [19] For example, Media Matters, GLAAD and others have identified multiple YouTube videos — which have accumulated millions of views — that bully, harass, and misgender trans people. In each video, prominent anti-trans pundits use YouTube to demean, target, and misgender young people, their parents, and public figures [20] in videos saturated with blatant anti-trans rhetoric. These videos remain active despite these violations having been reported by Media Matters, GLAAD, and other organizations to YouTube.
We know that leading national organizations, including GLAAD, HRC, Media Matters for America, PFLAG, The Trevor Project, ADL, and others, share research and guidance with your companies and escalate violative content. And yet your mitigations remain woefully inadequate. The very content you profit from is in violation of your own terms of service, which assert that you do not allow hate speech. [21]
True allies do not profit from anti-LGBTQ hate.
We speak together with one voice to demand that your companies create and enforce stronger content and ad policies to directly confront the content that is causing online and offline harm to transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people.

How the horrible anti-transgender policies of Russia became a reality
Tumblr media
Putin has decided to make queer and trans people scapegoats for his own failure as a leader. He has signed legislation that bans people from officially or medically changing their gender. It annuls marriages in which one person has transitioned and bars transgender people from becoming foster or adoptive parents.
Over at eX-twitter Jeannie the Gaywyck Owl 🏳️‍⚧️ has written a thorough and very helpful thread about what has happened and the reasons for it.
Yes, this is depressing reading, but given that transphobes all over the world is inspired by Putin's bizarre traditionalist and violent fakery, we must learn from what is happening, and do whatever we can to help transgender people everywhere, including Russia. Putin is to blame for the war and the oppression, not the Russian LGBTQIA community.
Here are some extracts from the thread. You can read it all, with additional comments, here.
Jeannie the Gaywyck Owl 🏳️‍⚧️ writes:
//Okay, a lot of people asked for it, so here I go: Russian government is approving the biggest anti-trans law RIGHT NOW, featuring COMPLETE BAN of all documental and medical transition for trans and intersex people: A THREAD With great help of @TomoAyu13 and @aalien.
The previous pro-trans ID law
Let’s start a bit earlier: not so long ago, in 2018, Ministry of Justice approved new changes to medical laws made by the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia. It stated the new form of approval and procedure for issuing a gender change document by a medical organization.
Here’s the document itself: http://publication.pravo.gov.ru/Document/View/0001201801220016?index=0&rangeSize=1… The form itself allowed a lot of people to change their documents faster and more freely after they are approved by a medical commission, either governmental or private, and allowed trans people to transition easier.
Here’s Pravo Trans issue about this document: http://pravo-trans.eu/novaya-forma-spravki-chasto-zadavaemye-voprosy/… With the Note 087/y you were able to change your documents within a year since the date of issuing. If you used it only for gender affirming surgeries/HRT, you could come to commission again asking for reissue
For the first time in its existence, Russian Federation, despite having homophobic and transphobic tendencies since the day of forming, actually was the best country for fast and mostly easy documental and medical transition, especially great for people who wanted to go “stealth”
The transphobic tipping point
Back to 2023: after the news of lack of volunteers and armed forces in Ukraine, the flaming eye of State Duma is seeking for a scapegoat and a potential “living meat” solution for the front. After the “ban on LGBT propaganda” in late 2022, they came for trans women, men, enbies.
May 30, 2023. A draft law has been submitted to the State Duma establishing a complete ban on “medical interventions aimed at changing sex”, as well as “excluding state registration of sex change without surgery”.
The main authors were mrs. Muzulina who actually tried to give that law a chance way back in 2020 and was stopped by other fractions and protests of trans people, and mr. Volodin, the Chairman of State Duma. Let’s dig into it, shall we?
The content of the law proposal
I’ll try to translate it as close to the original as possible.
"Medical workers are prohibited from acting in medical interventions aimed at changing the sex of a person, including the formation of primary and/or secondary sexual characteristics of the other sex in a person"
“Medical interventions related to the treatment of congenital physiological anomalies of sex formation in children (aka intersex and birth anomalies) are allowed by decision of the medical commission of the the health institution the interventions are done in” Now let’s simplify:
These passages mean:
- complete ban on any medical interventions, including psychiatrists issuing 087/y and F64.0 by ICD v.10 “Transsexualism” (HA60 in International Classification of Diseases v.11), HRT prescriptions and all possible cosmetic and gender affirming surgeries;
- complete ban on any documental changes for a transgender person - you couldn’t change your gender marker in your ID. Ever. Need to inform that due to a complex documentary system Russia inherited from the USSR, you need to change your birth certificate first, passport second.
Due to having that documentary system, every Russian’s main ID is their passport, if they’re going abroad - add a separate “foreign passport” to in. Add to it your individual taxpayer number and social security number.
- this law draft also comes with all ban on gender reassignment surgeries, HRT and changes in gender marker for intersex people. If you’re born intersex and your doctor decides you’re a boy/girl - you couldn’t change ANYTHING when you’re hitting puberty or in your adult life.
Of course, after this law becomes reality, it’s basically governmental restriction of body autonomy. The main motivation for this law? “They’re mutilating children and doing it with America’s money” but also “they’re changing their gender to avoid special military operation”.
For reference: in 2020, due to “sex change” Russia issued 428 passports, in 2021 - 554 passports, in 2022 - 936 passports. The leaders in changing the gender marker were Moscow with the Moscow region and St. Petersburg with the Leningrad region. People are scared of you, Volodin.
Severe transphobia
Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin also spoke about anti-trans laws and is very supportive of them. He called men who decided to change sex “on paper” scammers:
Tumblr media
“The change of sex on paper is a deception, fraud. If it’s a fraud, this deception violates the interests of the state, our defense capability. … We will act taking into account new realities”:
It was clear that President Putin with his response on “who are they, transformers?” is also not very fond of trans folk existing. May 30 was not a random date - it was right before June 1, The International Children’s Day (or “Day of Children’s Protection” from literal Russian).
Inspired by US right wing
Of course, after literally using the words of American pastors that Mrs. Mizulina and Co used in favor of their “anti-LGBT propaganda law”, they would cover with children - just like judicial society in Florida and other states of America who cleared the way for anti-trans laws.
After the May 30, the law was reconfigured into its current “max ban state” and then everything escalated quickly. June 12, The Day of Russia. State Duma announces that this law will go in hearings without any half-measures - it’s still a full blown ban.
June 13, evening. State Duma issues a note that the hearing will be “out of order because it’s an emergency case”. They’re speeding up the process. At the same time, this law is considered “adjustments” to an existing Federal Law 323 Paragraph 45 - ban on EUTHANASIA.
Before the hearings started, Russian-speaking trans and non-binary twitter users (especially @aalien) tried to gather publicity from the main figures of Russian opposition in emigration. It resulted into ban waves by some of them and bragging about “Putin is oppressing everyone”.
After days of trying to get the support from people who, as LGBT community in Russian thought, are seeking for “the great future Russia without Putin”, trans people started to realize that in this battle they’re the lone legion. The hearings are rushed and set to June 14.
Traditionalist "family values"
During the day another stone strikes - Mr. Vitaliy Milonov, famous for his “Orthodoxy or death” t-shirt and immense hate towards LGBT and whose laws about “ban on LGBT-propaganda towards children” later grew into ban on basically speaking about LGBT (even for LGBT themselves).
Of course, Mr. Milonov is a big fan of conservative families and “Domostroy” mindset. He said: “If the (anti-trans) bill is adopted in Russia, it may subsequently cancel the already issued certificates of sex change.” They’re willing to break marriages and people’s lives for it.
Tumblr media
SOMEHOW, by his words, “the law will not be retroactive, but the cancellation of certificates can be worked out after the bill’s adoption”. How is that NOT retroactive - cancelling the documents for people who already live in their preferred gender - I can’t understand.
“This bill is an indicator of our attitude to these terrible things. And it’s not just about those who want to avoid military service. There can be no sex change in a normal society, because it’s anti-scientific, obscurantism”:
“I hope that we will be able to further work out this issue and all these fake certificates, which corrupt doctors and so-called psychologists issued about sex change, will be canceled.” He is the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs.
“If we recognize that sex change is an impossible phenomenon, respectively, those who tried to do it on paper will be, I hope, in a hanged-in-the-air position,” Milonov explained. “Emigrate or die trying, we don’t see you as equal citizens” is the “hanged-in-the-air position”.
Stigmatizing health personnel
Again, full pack of documents in Russian is accessible by the link: https://sozd.duma.gov.ru/bill/242098-8 (you might need Russian VPN to download the texts). Some citations from the explanatory note to this law draft: “Currently, there is already a developed sex change industry in Russia“
“It consists of unscrupulous doctors, psychologists, a developed network of LGBT organizations and activists, and other persons. They direct all their destructive activity to teenagers and young people”. So basically DeSantis words, but for “the big evil US gay lobby”.
“The Constitution of the Russian Federation enshrines norms on the preservation of traditional family values and the protection of the institution of marriage as a union of men and women.“ These changes were made in 2020 alongside with extending Putin’s ruling abilities.
Upholding the binary, endless lies
“The basic law of the country provides for only two sexes - men and women, no “intermediate” and “additional” variants of sex or “gender”, neither categories like “parent No. 1” and “parent No. 2” are acceptable, nor the possibility of “sex change”.” No comments.
Diving down:
After that, the explanatory note covers the existing laws about LGBT-propaganda and how trans people’s existence is basically propaganda. They lie about “the existing evidence of parents of affected and mutilated children” - the children are 20+ y. o. lads and lasses.
They lie about “sex change operations for children less then 14 y.o. in the US of A” and “medical commissions taking only several tens of minutes”. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in the period from 2016 to 2022, 2,990 people applied for “sex change” in passports.
June 14 2023, the day of hearings, 1st hearing for full-blown ban on trans & intersex medical help and change of documents. “The worst thing is the corruption of children,” Mr. Volodin said at the plenary session. A lot of media claimed before that he’s a closed gay man himself.
In the United States, where these new pseudo-values are promoted, the share of transgender people among teenagers is already three times higher than among the adult population.” More lies, more covering of absolutely barbaric measures with “children”. But there’s more:
“The number of children receiving hormonal therapy has more than doubled in 5 years. They start pumping children with hormones at the age of 8. From 2017 to 2021, more than 2000 sex reassignment surgeries in children aged 13 to 17 years have been performed.” No statistics added.
More from the State Duma (lower house in parliament)
From this point, I’ll cover the citations that were saved by @Metroff4k3 from live translation on State Duma site: Minister of Health Care supported the bill, said they should have some high-level consiliums of federal institutions and about the need to improve the demography.
Deputy Ostanina began to stuble that he wanted to soften the law, she was shushed. Despite the words about corrections of organs on intersex children (they still want to ban it for people over 18), deputy Tolstoy says about restrictions and forming a list of “approved anomalies”.
Deputy Tolstoy yells that the law has no retroactive effect and that the figure of 2990 trans people changing their docs is growing exponentially, if the bill is not adopted, it will be 5000 next year. Laughter and noise can be heard in the background at the same time.
After that they recite to the claims of the Health Committee and Family Committee. You can read them via Google Translate in this post and links, this is the official position of State Duma deputies.
Ministry of Health Care tries to say that it will lead to waves of suicides and “black market of surgery and pharmacy” Chairman of the State Duma Volodin instructs to promptly finalize the initiative and submit the document to the lower house of parliament ASAP.
Attacking the Russian Ministry of Health for following the WHO health manual
“The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, but the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation “have not yet decided.” In this regard, when considering the bill in the next reading, we will invite the leadership of the Ministry of Health”
Tumblr media
“We need to find out why it is uncertain and why, when signing an agreement with WHO, they made a gross mistake that contradicts our Constitution and the values we must protect,” Volodin says. The “gross mistake” is signing the agreement about implementing ICD v.11 in Russia.
ICD-11 was presented in January 2019 and approved in May 2019. By it, F64.0 “Transgenderism” is no longer a psychic disability snuck in near schizophrenia and epilepsy. ICD-11 is working in Russia since January 1 2022, the transition period to new ICD has been extended until 2027
Mr. Volodin claims that “HRT and operations are blooming in other countries” and that “Europe and the USA are full with them, with complete sodomy”. “The man gets up in the morning, goes to buy a certificate in paid clinics,” he says.
“There are no psychiatrists and psychologists in the commissions - no one who would studied his condition… And then provides a document on the change of sex, surname, first name, patronymic.” Another lie. Every commission has a clinical psychologist, sexologist and psychiatrist.
Mr. Volodin says that the lower house of Duma would like the Ministry of Healthcare, preparing amendments to the law prohibiting sex change in Russia, not to invent changes “by caring for people”. According to him, the caring would be “forbiding all this debauchery.”
Did you see that? “Don’t you dare caring about people, simple governmental medical man, end with this and lay back. If they start killing themselves, well just make suicides illegal and shoot them for unaliving!” At this point it’s an absolute circus of horrors.
Preparing for conversion therapy
The Minister of Health noted that in addition to the said initiative, he is conducting research for conversion therapy. One deputy is concerned that people with a «a different perception» of their gender should be psychologically and psychiatrically «bred to reality» This is hell
“The Minister replied that work in this direction on behalf of the President is already underway, an appropriate institution is being created, where other “behavioral violations” and forms of antisocial behavior will be considered” So it’s back to electric chairs and haloperidol.
Connected to abortion ban
Vice-speaker Tolstoy concludes the meeting and appeals to the Minister of Health. The deputy asked the Ministry to consider banning abortion in commercial clinics and “take control of hormones for sex change, contraceptions and abortion”. THEY’RE ALREADY SPEAKING OF ABORTION BAN.
Before that, in March 2023, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs pointed out the need to prohibit abortion for commercial clinics to make it easier for the state to monitor it. They want to “be there to help”, she says.
The vote is not anonymous, everybody’s advised to have their name shown near the vote. First reading, first hearing, ban of trans healthcare and documental transition - Duma agrees unanimously, 365 “yes” out of 369 deputies who signed the original draft (4 people didn’t show up).
Tumblr media
IN CONCLUSION: The state ban on any medical help and change of documents for transgender and intersex people is in after the first hearing. Mr. Volodin says they’re gonna come to full sign and conclusion over the spring-summer sessions. That means trans people are now outlaws.
[This is what happened in July. The law has been accepted and signed by Putin. The main changes are that the final version of the law annuls marriages in which one person has transitioned and bars transgender people from becoming foster or adoptive parents. Added by Transgender World.]
PLEASE SHARE THIS THREAD EVERYWHERE YOU CAN. Show it to your mom, to your local liberal party chamber, news, streamers, everywhere. Help trans people of Russia to go through the medical commissions now, while we still have time - you can donate to @QueerSvit or @QueerSvitUK.
You can also donate to individual fundings of Russian trans people I retweet here. You can also donate to @gero444a and her initiative that helps queer refugees in Italy or to queer medias like @kvir_media who help covering this in mass media. Trans liberation now. Stay in touch.//

''More than a dozen state attorneys general penned an open letter last week calling on Target stores to keep Pride merchandise on display, asking the retail chain to stand against rising homophobia and transphobia across the United States.
The letter, delivered to Target CEO Brian Cornell on June 16, was signed by Democratic attorneys general from 14 states and the District of Columbia. The signers urged Cornell to reverse policies implemented last month, when Target stores across the country removed merchandise with queer and trans-positive messaging from displays in response to threats and violence from right-wing extremists.
“We commend, of course, Target’s intention to keep its staff members and customers safe,” the attorneys general wrote, but emphasized that capitulation was not the answer. “As we see it, Target has been the victim of potentially criminal acts, in response to which we encourage you to reach out to responsible authorities. We stand ready to help address anti-LGBTQIA+ threats and harassment in Target stores.”
...
Although the open letter led with a carrot, it also came with a small, prodding stick. While retailers aren’t obligated to carry rainbow fanny packs or trans flag mugs, the letter concludes, federal non-discrimination law still requires “that customers be treated equally,” and the AGs “urge Target to be mindful of its obligations under these laws.”
Still, the letter’s focus was on working with Target management to keep people safe and discourage hateful behavior. “If Target again finds itself facing anti-LGBTQIA+ harassment — whether of customers or employees — store management or the corporate office are encouraged to reach out to our offices,” the letter concluded. “We are ready, willing, and able to work with you in the spirit of progress, inclusivity, and equality.”"

been a minute--message to all y'all
Hi, friends. Apologies it's been a while. Life is wild.
Anyway, all you youngs out there, so sorry the US is so jacked. What a shitshow. When I was a young, it was pretty jacked then, too. Let's face it. This country had been jacked since the get-go because of systemic racism and attendant violence and without the actions of we, the people over the centuries here, it would be even worse, though it's always been bad for people who aren't white and cishetmale (and generally wealthy).
So it's important to stay informed via non-propaganda media (which is most of it these days--go for local independent media and avoid clickbait), and history done by actual historians or investigative journalists who are not beholden to propaganda. Let me know if you want any sources with regard to context about what's going on now.
Staying informed via legit info sources keeps assclowns from being able to mess with you. Don't buy into anything. I have a mantra I've used throughout my life: don't be a douche. If an organization is saying things or advocating for things that will do harm to others, whether human or animal, chances are they're being a douche. So check 'em out before you jump on their bandwagon.
And if you don't want to vote in the federal elections--hey, I get it. But please vote in your local and state elections. Because policies on the state and local level will hit you hard. Just look at TX, ID, OK, FL, MS, AL, LA ,and every other red state electing corrupt administrations implementing crap policies that deny bodily autonomy, that don't give a shit about gun reform, that are working to criminalize librarians and certain books, that don't give a shit about climate change and instead are working to make things worse in that regard.
But I hope you do think about the federal government, because there's only one party that is working to implement the neo-f@cist Pr0ject 2025--a 900-page blueprint of anti-rights and anti-democratic plans if a certain party gets into office. It's a Christian nationalist compendium--familiarize yourself with it. Read it here: https://thf_media.s3.amazonaws.com/project2025/2025_MandateForLeadership_FULL.pdf The right-wing coalition behind it is spearheaded by the right-wing, anti-rights Her1tage F0undation. It's their mandate--their Pr0ject 2025. Have a look at what's going on locally for you, and think about how it links to the Christofasc1st movement nationally and internationally. Because that's what's going on. I'll leave you with some links. The next two give you some maps of rights. The Movement Advancement Project has a map about LGBTQIA+ rights by state: https://www.lgbtmap.org/equality-maps And here's a link about repro rights in the country, via Center for Reproductive Rights: https://reproductiverights.org/maps/abortion-laws-by-state/ And omg, check out Dream for America, a Gen Z organization organizing and engaging all y'all: https://dream4america.org/ Volunteer, get engaged. Hit them up.
Y'all ain't dumbasses. We're all being lied to, and you're smart cookies, youngs. Hit me up if you have questions about sources to check out--and hey, give me some sources to check out! I'm always looking to expand my knowledge base.
And remember, democracy isn't a spectator sport.
Y'all take care out there.

'It's alarming': More than half of LGBTQ young people unable to get mental health care, study finds - ABC11 Raleigh-Durham
As North Carolina legislators debate Senate Bills 636 and 579, young people in the LGBTQ community reported in a new survey that their mental health is being harmed.
Senate Bill 636 would prohibit transgender girls from joining female sports teams in middle and high school. Senate Bill 579, referred to by supporters as "Prevent Harm to Children," would increase the punishment for disseminating obscene materials when a minor is present.
"They're being told by their leaders that they don't matter, that they don't have value, that they are villains," said Candis Cox with the LGBTQ Center of Durham.
The Trevor Project just released results of a nationwide survey that involved more than 28,000 LGBTQ young people between the ages of 13-24.
The results found
41% of LGBTQ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year
56% of LGBTQ young people who wanted mental health care were not able to get it
A majority of those surveyed reported being bullied or harassed at school by people who thought they were LGBTQ
Nearly 1 in 3 said their mental health was poor most of the time or all the time due to anti-LGBTQ legislation and policies
Nearly 2 in 3 said hearing of the potential of new laws and the prohibition of discussion of LGBTQ issues in the classroom made their mental health a lot worse
"41% is an alarmingly high rate. For anyone I mean, 1% is a terrible thing, but 41% LGBTQIA+ people to be considering suicide is terrifying," said Cox. "Because that means that nearly half of LGBTQIA+ people surveyed don't feel as though they actually have a right and an ability to live and to exist and to be in this country and in this world."
