Kiss as a suggestion. I’m gonna have to pick ashbella since someone in this cruel world needs to write for them 😵‍💫

“No nononoNO NO-! Shit!” Isabella cried.

“YES! Fuck yeah! Oh, the taste of victory has never felt so sweet!” Ashton exclaimed with a shit-eating grin and a little pump of his fist. The Mario Kart victory music rang cruelly in the background as the small screen focused on Waluigi rejoicing his win on his wimpy motorcycle. Meanwhile, Yoshi followed behind him, hanging his cute green head in defeat. The final results showed that Ashton won the Grand Prix, with Isabella in second place losing by just 5 points.

Isabella set her wii remote down and shot her boyfriend a dirty glare. “Oh shut it Ash! I would’ve won if you hadn’t gotten me with your strategically placed bananas! Which, by the way, is really stupid and all it tells me is that you’re a try-hard!”

Ashton stretched his arms over his head and eased into his seat on the bed with a smirk. “Tell that to my trophy, Yoshi.” He stuck his tongue out for emphasis, to which Isabella scoffed and crossed her arms.

“Has anyone ever told you what a smug asshole you are when you win?”

Ashton leaned closer to his girlfriend. “Has anyone ever told you that you’re such a sore loser? It’s not very sportsmanlike behavior, you know.” He snuck his fingers around Isabella’s waist and poked her stomach. Isabella couldn’t keep up her faux anger any longer, letting out a high giggle as Ash pulled her closer and started to tickle her.

“Aah-! Wait, wait-!” Isabella tried to protest, but her increased laughter only seemed to encourage Ash’s mischief. The two of them wiggled around until they fell back on the bed, both laughing and panting.

Ashton lay above his girlfriend, pausing his antics briefly to catch his breath. Isabella took advantage of the break to grab Ash and flip their positions. Now Isabella hovered over Ash, straddling his thighs and pinning his wrists to the bed to keep him steady. Isabella chuckled smugly at her victory.

“HA! I got you now Ashton Frey! That ought to shut you up now!”

Isabella continued to laugh just to rub it in, until she got a good look at the man underneath her and felt herself involuntarily stop.

Ashton was no longer laughing, nor smiling. Instead he averted his gaze, breathing heavily as a deep blush slowly crept up his face. Isabella didn’t even realize just how suggestive this position was until it was too late. Part of her wanted to get up, apologize for crossing this boundary that they haven’t exactly talked about before, but she was awestruck by just how pretty her boyfriend looked like this. She felt her own face heat up as butterflies rose in her stomach.

Just as Isabella loosened her grip on Ash’s wrists, apologies on the tip of her tongue, a panic look flashed his features.

“No! Wait, don’t get up, uh, I a-actually really like, uhh…god, shit, shit-” Ashton’s eyes seemed to be all over the place, looking everywhere except his girlfriend’s face. He cleared his throat awkwardly and continued.

“I’m sorry, uhh, let’s just-” Ashton choked out a weak laugh that sounded like a kicked puppy. “Let’s just…forget this ever happened and I’ll just, seemyselfoutokay byee-”

Just as he started to lean up to bail, Isabella pushed him back down with a light shove to his chest. He looked back at her, surprised, and she tried to hold his gaze without stumbling too much.

“Can I…k-kiss you?” Isabella whispered shakily. She felt like boiling lava about to burst, but she stayed firm.

Without speaking, Ashton slowly let his hands unsteadily graze Isabella’s thighs, keeping her in place.

I want you to stay with me

Taking this as her cue, Isabella leaned down and planted a kiss on Ash’s lips. Slow, awkward, unsure at first, then more kisses, hot, deep, passionate.

Lots of unspoken words that night, but through all the soft gasps, light chuckles, shaky moans, and firm touches, one phrase stayed clear:

The Letter - I really love this game!

So, I just finished playing The Letter for the first time and I have to say I really loved it. I think it might be becoming my new hyperfixation because I can't stop thinking about it.

I'm a huge fan of the horror genre and the supernatural aspects of the game alone made it me like it, it's a well put together horror story, not the most scariest I've read if I'm being honest, but it does keep you on edge. It makes you want to keep reading nonstop because you need to know what happens next. At least that was my case, I just couldn't put my phone down.

The story keeps you on edge because it makes you care about the characters. Even if you don't particularly like this or that one, you still care about their destiny (either because you like them and want to see them getting a happy ending or because you dislike them and want to see them suffer), you still want to know how their journey ends. You care, for good or bad.

I love that your decisions as a player actually hold weight and affect the story. How many visual novels have I played where my choices don't actually change anything? Well, in The Letter every little choice you make counts. It'll affect the story, the relationship between characters, the ending, everything. I usually play visual novels only once, even the ones with multiple endings, because most of them don't change much at the end. It's just the same ending with minor changes. The idea of playing it again just to get one different word in the epilogue it's not attractive, but with The Letter the suspense you felt the first time you played it remains for the second, third and all the times you play it.

I love that is a multi-POV story because I think that adds a different perspective not only to the story itself, but to the characters as well. A character that from one POV is perceived as frivolous and cold, in other is seen as kind and warm, for example. It adds depth.

SPOILERS AHEAD, I GUESS?

Now I'll talk about my personal opinion on the characters and ships (because yes, it has romance too, despite being a horror game).

My least favorite is probably Rebecca, and not because she's bad written, quite the opposite actually. All the characters have flaws, some even bigger than Rebecca's, the difference is that she lacks self-awareness. Her little obsession with Ash and the jealousy she felt every time he interacted with Isabella was a big indicator of her lack of self-awareness. She doesn't own up to her shitty behavior (I mean, she does, but it takes for her friends to die or for her to be in the brink of death to realize she wasn't precisely in the right) and I'm not really into characters with this type of characterization. It doesn't mean she isn't well written, because she is, it just means she, as a character, isn't my cup of tea.

Luke, for example, is the most flawed character, yet I still like him better than Rebecca because he's self-aware (and because I love villainous characters). He knows he's a shitty person and doesn't lie to himself about it. He accepts it. He embraces it, even. I like that in character. So, my problem with Rebecca is not that she's an obsessive creepy girl that wants to monopolize Ash because she firmly believes she's entitled to his attention and romantic love just because they've known each other since kids. I actually love the yandere archetype, I love obsessive creepy characters. My problem with her is that she doesn't realize she's that obsessive creepy girl. She doesn't realize she's toxic and a shitty friend to both Ash and Isabella in more than one occasion.

And this too is the reason why I don't like the Ash x Rebecca pairing. Not because I find it problematic (I actually love problematic ships, I mean, c'mon, I love yanderes) but because the ship it's not my kind of problematic. Just a matter of personal taste. So if any shipper sees this please don't get your panties in a twist, thank you.

My favorite character is probably Ashton. I have seen people say that he's the least interesting of them all and that he doesn't have a backstory tragic enough to be the way he is. I literally saw someone ask "what even is his pain?" But I don't believe Ash is supposed to be some Greek tragic character? It's not the way I interpreted it, at leat (yeah, in the true ending he, well, ends tragically, but I still don't think he's supposed to be a tragic character). All the characters are well written and their personalities make sense with their upbringing. His parents divorced when he was very young, way before he was old enough to understand that it wasn't his fault. And after the divorce each parent went to live on their own leaving him alone. He was a child and he was alone. Abandoned, at least that's how his kid's mind perceived it, by his own parents. So, to me, it makes sense for him to build up walls between him and his friends. It makes sense that he doesn't completely trust them. It makes sense that he believes that he knows better. He felt betrayed and abandoned by his own parents, and if his own parents abandoned him then why would people that aren't even related to him by blood not abandon him? He protects himself from that rejection, from that future abandonment, by building up walls. It'll hurt less to be left behind if he doesn't allow himself to get too close to anyone in the first place. I've seen some people say that Ash tries too hard to be a hero, but I don't believe he's trying to be a hero, I believe he's trying to feel worthy. Worthy of friendship, worthy of love, worthy of the people around him, damn, even worthy of being alive. Imagine the blow on a kid's self-esteem after they get "abandoned" by their own parents? If your own parents can't love you enough to stay with you, then who can? Probably no one, right? So he overcompensates. Because yes, he's afraid of abandonment but he also yearns for true long-lasting bonds. So he tries to solve everything by himself not because he believes he's some hero, but because he's trying to show to the people he cares about that he can be reliable, that they can depend on him, so maybe, maybe, they'll want to stay by his side. So maybe they won't abandon him. And each time he fails to prove that he can be reliable, that he can solve things on his own, it's to him a confirmation of his lack of worth. "He thinks he knows everything", yeah, because knowing everything is one of the few ways he knows to prove to himself and to others that he's useful, that he's worthy. I'm not saying you can't find those character traits annoying, that you can't dislike him, I'm just saying that you can't pretend that his characterization doesn't make sense. And when did this post become a dissertation on Ash's characterization? Lol.

The rest of the characters I love too. I just wanted to give my insight in my least and most favorite ones, because if I write something for the seven of them this post would be too long since I have a lot to say about them, in a good way of course.

TL;DR The Letter is an amazing game and if you haven't already played it yet then you have to play it right now, I promise you won't regret it!

Fandom: The Letter. Pairing: Ashton Frey and Isabella Santos. Summary: All she needed to hear was his voice.

"Help me..."

Then came the shrieking laughter that often accompanied it, echoing. That twisted, bloody smile. Eyes so full of malice and hatred. Something that would never be forgotten, no matter how many years may pass. How could someone forget something like that? The memories of that curse and that woman were burned into memory.

Often, it had Isabella waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, eyes wide and heart racing. Tonight was no different. Shakily, she lifted a hand to her face, doing her best to take slow, deep breaths.

"It's okay. She's not here... She's gone... It's over." She whispered, trying to calm herself. While it helped some, it could only do so much.

After a moment, her gaze trailed over to her bedside table. The bright red digital numbers of her clock caught her attention first. 1:16 am. Then her focus shifted to her phone, which sat not too far from her clock.

She hesitated for a moment, before reaching out to pick it up. It was cool against her palm.

"I don't want to bother him, but..."

She turned it this way and that a couple of times before turning it on. Once it was on, she was quick to go to her contact list. It was easy to find the one she was looking for.

Ashton.

It took a few seconds, but she pressed call and lifted the phone to her ear.

One ring. Two, three... Every ring it took had her heart sinking. But then...

"Isabella?" Ashton's tired voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Hey, Ash..." She chewed on her bottom lip.

"Everything alright?" There was a hint of concern in his voice when he spoke this time.

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine. Just..." She paused for a second. "A bad dream.."

I just needed to hear your voice...

"I see."

He seemed to understand as soon as she said that. She could tell by the tone of his voice. She wasn't the only one still plagued by the memories and voices of that mansion.

Their talk turned to idle chatter, asking how the day was going. Or how the case he was working on was going on. It didn't matter what they were talking about. Talking to him helped her get her mind off of it, especially when she couldn't see him in person right then.

After a while, she fell asleep with the phone to her ear. And he was content to just listen to the sound of her breathing as she slept.

“Rock Bottom” by Hailee Steinfeld — This pretty much explains the gist of their bickering relationship.

“Arms” by Christina Perri — I really like how they find this unique sense of comfort with each other, no matter the problems that arise with the curse, and personal heartbreaks. They both also seem to be pretty guarded about their emotions, Isabella covering her sadness with a cheery front and Ashton preferring to distance himself from those who aren’t close to him.

“Autumn Leaves” by Ed Sheeran — Neither of them is a stranger to death. This could work for either of their death endings, but I think it fits Isabella’s point of view more, especially in the true ending, with how she learns to move on from the death of her friend, step by step, one foot in front of the other.

“Let Her Go” by Passenger — I’m sorry. :’) (This could fit them for either of their death scenes.)

“Oh Ms Believer” by Twenty One Pilots — I really like imagining them with this! I see their relationship as this song. Throughout the story, step by step, they deal with anything the curse throws at them. And in the end, where they both survive and end up together, they learn to cope, bit by bit, always by each other’s side.

“May I” by Trading Yesterday — I feel like it fits Ashton’s thoughts about Isabella, as well as his hesitance to showing them, since almost all the affectionate lyrics are questions for permission.

“Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men — So for the ending where Isabella wakes up from her coma only to discover all her friends have died, I imagine that Isabella gradually pieces herself together, bit by bit, and her guilt and grief becomes easier to live with. She will never be the same person she was, but she is coping. And Ash’s spirit watches over her, like a guardian angel.

“You Matter to Me” by Sara Bareilles and Jason Mraz — I just can’t help thinking of them when I listen to this song. They are two souls who eventually realize that they matter to someone. That they are needed. That someone would reach for them should they find themselves thrown into the darkness. It also fits the simplicity of their relationship. No need for grand, extravagant declarations of love — just quiet, small gestures to show how much they care.

I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my writings and headcanons! I enjoyed making them…and have every intention of getting back on that because I love this company and want to support them even if it’s just by providing fan content (｡ ˃艸˂) @arcelllis especially. At this point, I think of her as a friend…if she’ll have me xD

I enjoyed the true ending, and I actually adore that the everyone lives is not the true ending, cause… well, everyone getting away unscathed feels unrealistic??? In the grander scheme of things. As for my favourite route, if I had to pick one, is the comabelle route (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*: ･ﾟ✧ I love Belle and seeing her alive and well, of course, she’s my baby, but the impact her condition (or demise, should you go deadbelle route) on the whole story feels so goooooood! Like, omg, my killing a character did more than just give me a slightly different line in an epilogue! Choice matters! Yay (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*: ･ﾟ✧

Also, as previously mentioned, this way I get my cake and get to eat it too. Everyone survives, but not everyone is unscathed. Parabella happens, and everyone’s happy after years of working past their issues (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*: ･ﾟ✧

The Letter Fanfiction Brainstorming

I have an idea for a fanfiction I want to write for the Visual Novel The Letter, but I have some details I need to work out before I start writing it.
